Virginia Limits Public Funding of Abortion - Thanks to Obama

Posted by The MaryHunter at April 22, 2010 11:58 AM

From the Irony Doesn't Just Involve Wrinkled Laundry Department: the pro-life community just scored a big one in Virginia.

On a 20 to 19 vote, the Democratic-led Senate agreed to an amendment proposed by [Gov. Robert F.] McDonnell (R) that would limit state funding for abortions to those performed in cases of rape or incest or when the life of the mother is at risk. Nothing in state law previously prohibited Medicaid-funded abortions in instances when the health of the mother was in jeopardy.

The beauty of this is the precedent Gov. McDonnell used to lobby for his amendment.

McDonnell argued that his proposal would bring Virginia into line with federal law on the issue, recently restated by an executive order signed by President Obama.

What a topsy-turvy world! We have the most pro-abortion president in history actually setting the stage for arguments against publicly funded abortion at the state level. This could bring about an anti-abortion legislation wave across the nation, especially after the 2010 elections. One wonders whether Obama regrets that disingenuous and utterly meaningless Stupak executive order, a few pieces of silver to secure passage of ObamaCare.

Sure, murder away - just not on the taxpayer's tab.
