Minor Outbreaks of Liberal Racism

Posted by Dave Blount at January 10, 2010 11:48 AM

Uh oh. Harry Reid has been caught in a thought crime:

Reid told Time's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann that Obama was a "light-skinned" African-American who lacked a "Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

When Trent Lott had Reid's job back in 2002 and made a similar faux pas, Reid called for him to step down from his leadership position. Imagine if he had said this:

A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.

That's what Bill Clinton had to say about Comrade Obama to Chappaquiddick Ted Kennedy, whom he was trying to coax into supporting Shrillary for President, also reported by Halperin and Heilemann.

As if there were any chance of him getting reelected anyway, Reid will now go into the cringe mode we saw from Lott, Don Imus, Dog the Bounter Hunter, et al., pleading on hands and knees for the sacred race to forgive him. But racism against blacks should surprise no one coming from Democrats; it's integral to their ideology.

So far I have heard from liberals only one sincere reason for voting for Barack Obama: because he's black. This gave them a thrill of self-righteousness. Would they get that same thrill because he was qualified for the job? Of course not. The thrill came precisely from knowing that he was not qualified. Liberals are so noble, they are willing to sacrifice their own country as an offering to blacks, who could never achieve anything that wasn't handed them undeservedly by whites — or so the liberals half-secretly believe. The same perverted combination of condescension and sanctimony that gave us Affirmative Action has put an inexperienced left-wing radical in the White House.

Conservatives would vote for the black guy if and only if he were the best for the job, because they don't have a low opinion of any race, and expect everyone to live up to the same standards.

No gaffe Harry Reid is likely to make could be half as racist as voting for a character like Obama based on his ethnicity.
