Al "PhotoShop" Gore Tries Lies to Sell Books

Posted by The MaryHunter at November 19, 2009 11:45 AM

Apparently, the 30-year low in hurricane activity was about to make some trouble for sales of Al Gore's new book, "Our Choice; A Plan To Solve The Climate Crisis." Therefore, he settled on a little PhotoShopping instead:

Shortly after the devastation of Katrina, Al Gore was busy making a correlation between hurricanes and global warming in an effort to drive home his claim that higher global CO2 emissions cause an increase in extreme weather events. The cover art for Gore’s movie, An Inconvenient Truth, features an image of a hurricane rising out of a smoke stack.
Seemingly underwhelmed that there have been no major hurricanes since Katrina, along with the fact that global hurricane activity is now at a thirty year low, Gore came up with an ingenious method of solving the problem of the lack of scary depictions of frightening hurricanes to display on his book – simply airbrush them in!

Paul Joseph Watson, author of the above-linked post, quotes Univ. of Florida hurricane expert Ryan Maue, who made an interesting observation about Algore's new tome:

The cover opens and closes half and half — so you only see one hurricane…as in the press release photo or the one on Amazon.
Gore_Earth_real.jpg
But this is the real picture sequence from the book which I looked at Borders today and took cell-phone pictures, original (before the retouching by some “artist”) Note all of the Arctic ice and the size of the Florida Peninsula… And the final product:
Gore_Earth_Fake.jpg
A midget Southern Hemisphere cyclone is off the coast of Florida, another hurricane is sitting on the equator off the coast of Peru — and the Arctic Ice is gone (perhaps it is summer) and the Florida Peninsula is half gone
There are other differences I am sure you can find — but the hurricanes are just nonsense…

Editorial license, you say? Creative adjustment of an image, something that's done all the time in marketing campaigns, just to make a point of a future that could be?

How about: desperate act by a lying enviro-moonbat who is doing anything and everything possible to promote as reality what has been and continues to be confirmed as a hoax. The trouble for Gore (and potential book sales) is that the public are finally catching on.

Major tip of the tam to Alex Jones' PrisonPlanet.com

Comments

The cover is meant to illustrate the effects of global warming. A Couple of notes:

1. It is impossible for hurricanes to form on the equator.

2. For Cuba to be underwater as depicted in the cover, sea levels would have to rise 6,000 feet... which is not only impossible, but would put most of the continental USA underwater.

Not surprising to find this from a guy who thinks the interior of the Earth is as hot as the interior of the sun.

These lyrics by the late, great Frank Zappa sum up Al Gore and his global warming crap quite nicely:

"And in your dreams you can see yourself as a profit, saving the world.
The words from your lips; I just can't believe you are such a FOOL"

Where is Lao to defend this nonsense, right after he bashes Fox News for "being deceptive" in using old footage of Palin rallies when describing the accurate, large crowds visiting the book tour?

Posted by: Anonymous Countermoonbat at November 19, 2009 12:15 PM

I do not claim to be a student of cartography, however if the sea levels rise by approx 6,000 feet (1829 meters for euroweenies, 2,000 yards or 1 heisman for football fans) one would believe that every portion of lets say North America lower than Denver would be under water. For liberally educated this means about all that should be left is Denver, parts of Alaska and Liberal egos. Also if the waters did rise, the Mojave if not underwater would be lush and green and most likely the plains would become more jungle like. The additional storms would bring inland fresh water in the form of rain. I made the last two sentences up after running a simulation using my imagination and an old version of SimCity. I hold my sim to be at least as accurate as the ALGoaracle.

Al Gore is one of the sick and twisted front men for the global freemason conspiracy. He has become a billionaire off of peddling this climate hoax. They're going to depopulate the earth to continue this hoax since less surplus population means more money for the central banksters.

Meanwhile, as Obamunism has emboldened the statists, we are seeing all of the cockroaches rush out of the closet to double down on stupid.

Now that we know where our leaders stand on manufactured climate tyranny, we know who to vote out in 2010.

The hurricane off the Florida coast is spinning the wrrong way. Hurricanes spin counter-clockwise. I have been numerous hurricanes and nor'easters were I live but I don't every remember a southeaster as that would be.

AC asks: "Where is Lao to defend this nonsense, right after he bashes Fox News for "being deceptive" in using old footage of Palin rallies when describing the accurate, large crowds visiting the book tour?"

Defend?

Gore speculates about what might happen under global warming at some far off future date and the cover is meant to represent that. Panama is gone. Baja is gone. Green areas are now desert. The post tries to claim Gore's cover represents present day reality. It isn't, it's speculation.

FOX was reporting the "news" of the day and presented year old footage while the announcer claimed "these are some of the pictures just coming into us".

Are you really saying you can't tell the difference?

Lao, you are a dangerous thug. You know as well as anyone that things like pictures and movies and even popular music has a profound effect on people, esp. those that are too busy or too young or too uneducated to understand that they're being manipulated.

The pictures and movies and rhetoric that Gore puts out create a feeling of fear and panic among the above group of people. No, one photo won't do it, nor one movie or speech. But seen and heard over and over, from enough sources endlessly proclaiming doom and pretty soon you have people reacting without thinking, believing without knowing.

This is pure evil. The debate is over on that point (!). So, since you align yourself with that evil...seemingly with all your body, mind and spirit...one can only speculate on your motivation. "By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?"

Interesting post Wyatt although the last paragraph was way too metaphysical for me.

I have not read any of Gore's books. I have no intention of purchasing this new one. I did not try to argue in favor of Gore's theories, I made note of an obvious photoshop that is meant to speculate about some future climate catastrophe, not portray our present situation. The photoshop, as has been pointed out already, is inaccurate.

What really struck me about your post was your second paragraph. Pause for a just a moment, and substitute the word "Moonbattery" for "Gore".

What do you think now?

You note also that all of the 10,000+ ft volcanoes all along Alaska's southwest and in the Aleutian Islands are all “under water” too: In which case, the only land masses that should show up on “Gore’s Globe” are the Andes and Himalayas.

Posted by: Anonymous Countermoonbat at November 19, 2009 3:19 PM

Lao, yes...Moonbattery (along with Fox, Breitbart, et. al.) use words and imagery to get their point across also. Absolutely.

The difference is that even if you TOTALLY disagree with the conservative point of view, there isn't much danger or downside if "our" thinking prevails...unless one is a socialist/communist/radical and feels that "social injustice" is ruining his or her life (translation: I have no job and want others to take care of me.)

Even in the WORST possible scenario, the poor, the handicapped, the mentally ill have SOME safety net under conservative government. When the left gets through, even the LEFT won't have any safe haven...the last, best hope of mankind will be gone.

Why in the world would you WANT that? Seriously?

Posted by: Wyatt's Torch at November 19, 2009 3:46 PM

"The last best hope for mankind will be gone."

Y'don't say? Sounds downright catastrophic, and all that on account of "the left". My, my.

Evil Otto, let me try an analogy. If I were to write a book about colonizing Mars and photoshopped a picture for the cover that showed a Martian landscape with a city on it, but I messed up the scale of the city in relation to Mons Olympus would that be a "lie" or "innaccurate"?

It depends... if you had been consistently claiming that the city was, in fact, the size of Mons Olympus, then the word would be LIE.

Y'see, this sort of thing isn't an isolated event for Gore. He has been claiming disaster on a scale even most proponents of AGW have been uncomfortable with. He's constantly used fear mongering, made extremely dubious statements, and misrepresented facts.

Get it, Lao? This is a trend with Al Gore. It's what he does. So I'm going to go with "lie." He's a con man, and you're making excuses for him.

Disingenuous. Gore's depiction invites an alarmist conclusion. A book about Mars is obviously a matter of fantasy, but one about global warming less obviously so.

Think how many of the cognitively disenfranchised (not just Obama voters, either) think that Oliver Stone's JFK has any historical basis, or that Michael Moore produces documentaries (any more than Leni Riefenstahl did). On public policy matters one has an obligation not to leave casual observers with a mistaken impression. Consider this: suppose we photoshopped a photo of Obama bowing to Osama, then another of the two laughing and joking together, as the cover of a book entitled: "Treason: How Obama Works with Terrorists!" Or one of Obama shooting up in a toilet, entitled "Obama: The Early Years." They're just speculation, of course. They could be true. OK by you?

Posted by: Dave at November 19, 2009 8:49 PM

I'm guessing your question is: suppose we photoshopped Obama...They're just speculation, of course. They could be true. OK by you?"

You've probably given a photoshop artist some ideas which we will see here eventually. Am I going to take any of them seriously because YOU believe they COULD be true? No. Do you have the freedom to photoshop to your heart's content? Sure.

I said from the beginning that Gore's cover was speculation, science fiction if you wish. I also agreed it was inaccurate, particularly in terms of even sea level rise.

Posted by: Lao at November 19, 2009 8:51 PM

I'll spare you the embarrassment. The bottom line is that it's meretricious to photoshop something that might be taken to represent reality and then to present it circumstances where its fabricated nature are not painfully apparent.

Photoshopping a monster with three heads is fine; no one over six years old (except perhaps some liberals) would be simple enough to take seriously. Photoshopping something that could be real, i.e., is not obviously fabricated, and not makng clear that it's fabricated, is dishonest.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at November 19, 2009 8:52 PM

Dave, no. To save some time, I don't believe in the Easter bunny either.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at November 19, 2009 8:54 PM

Well Dave I'm glad to see that you have read Gore's books and other scientific evidence in support of global warming. I'm also glad to see you have obviously read scientific evidence that disputes the conclusions made by Gore and scientists who support his theories. Having done all that, you have come to your own conclusion that you don't believe in global warming. To be more accurate, I think what you mean is you don't believe in man-made global warming.

I applaud your diligence. As I mentioned, I haven't done any of that so I'm in no position to make a call.

Posted by: Lao at November 19, 2009 8:55 PM

You've missed the point yet again. Of course someone has the right to photoshop to his heart's content. And you may well not take them seriously. Neither would I.

But that's not the point. The point is that many - maybe most - people take things at face value. If the fabrication is of something that could be true, many people will take it to be true. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion was fabricated, but many people took it to be true, yes? It's legal - but morally reprehensible - to fabricate something that could be true - but isn't - to influence others.

Please don't go out of your way to misunderstand this. Gore's cover is of a piece with the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, in being a fabrication superfically purporting to substantiate an advocate's point.

"Photoshopping something that could be real, i.e., is not obviously fabricated, and not makng clear that it's fabricated, is dishonest."

What? Are you trying to say that someone might actually look at Gore's book and believe that most of the USA had become a desert and that Panama, Cuba, Baja, and half of Florida are underwater and they hadn't heard about it until then?

Posted by: Lao at November 19, 2009 9:04 PM

I applaud your diligence. As I mentioned, I haven't done any of that so I'm in no position to make a call.

As a scientist, I am in a position to make that call, and I think it's crap.

More to the point, however, consider the language: do you believe in AGW or not? "Belief" has no place in science. I think it's crap. I think that human activities have minimal influence on climate compared to variations in solar output. (I point to huge variations in climate over geologic time when no human activity - no humans, in fact - existed.) Prove me wrong. Prove me wrong, and I'll listen. Otherwise, get off the pulpit.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at November 19, 2009 9:08 PM

Whether it is or not is not the point. The point is why (assuming it is). Ice Ages have come and gone (for some reason), but Gore's acolytes have not explained how the mechanism that operated then could not be operating now. That the "solutions" to global warming are exactly the same as those proposed by the Reds for the last 50 years is cause for no small suspicion as well.

But here's the analogy. I have a computer model that says you're at risk of diabetic peripheral neuropathy, so we need to amputate your feet. Cool with you? Wouldn't you want to know more about this model, and its algorithms (no pun intended)? Yet the model is secret, the input data suspect, and the output wildly suspect.

The climatologists need to have some skin in the game. They need to make a predication over, say, the next five years (long enough to have some statistical validity, but short enough to be meaningful for policy making). If they're right, I'll listen. If they're wrong, they're fired from their positions and banned from Federal grant funding for life. Now...how sure are they of their models?

A book cover with Obama fellating Soros? LOL!!!!

Would I squawk? No. First problem for me would be that I doubt I would recognize Soros in the first place.

Anyone seeing that type of picture would know it was phony.

Sorry Jay, but reading the Protocols of the Elders of Zion was not on any reading list I had. I see it's some kind of Jewish conspiracy theory.

You've missed the point yet again. (What high school did you drop out of, anyway?) The point was that a fabrication (that means something that make up) that can pass for reality can have deleterious bad consequences. Got it?

Posted by: Jay Guevara at November 19, 2009 9:25 PM

Anyone seeing that type of picture would know it was phony.

We're sneaking up on my point. Suppose the faked photo was of something that they wouldn't know was phony?

We'll get there...eventually. This is kind of like teaching calculus to a chimp, frankly.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at November 19, 2009 9:27 PM

I don't know enough to comment other than to say five years seems to be too short a timeframe when you are talking about global climate.

Posted by: Lao at November 19, 2009 9:28 PM

So, so far we've established that you don't much about...much of anything.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at November 19, 2009 9:32 PM

"A fabrication that can pass for reality can have deleterious consequences."

For example Obama is a Muslim is a fabrication that could pass for reality.

"Suppose the faked photo was of something that they wouldn't know was phony?"

For example??

By the way Jay, I love your delightful condescending belief in the superiority of your knowledge and intelligence, but do go on.

Instead of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion I got into videos of rock climbing in Zion and that looks way more interesting. Night night.

LOL! The five things that make silly liberals screech the loudest (in no particular order):

1. Pointing out that Global Warming is a lie

2. The 2nd Amendment and self defense

3. Sarah Palin

4. God

5. Free Speech (and who is allowed to speak freely)

Honorable mention: Muslim & Terrorist in the same sentence.

I can't misunderstand anything about the Elders of Zion because I know nothing about it. Sounds Mormon but that's as far as I will guess.

Oh holy shit. One of the most influential fakes in human history, a book that influenced antisemites like Hitler and still is a bestseller in the Middle East, and you know nothing about it? And think it sounds Mormon?

When I don't know about something, I LOOK IT UP. The internet is a wonderful research tool. You should try using it sometime. No one here is demanding you read the forgery, but one minute on Google would provide you with at least enough information to know what the hell we're talking about.

Why are you here, Lao? You're an ignorant person, and seem to barely know enough about the world to form opinions, yet you spend hours on this blog arguing points you barely understand.

Man made globull warming is the epitome of hyperbole.

As I mentioned before, I have no interest in researching phony conspiracy theories about the Jews.

Thanks Editor, for tagging the name highjacker.

"Answer me this one though, never mind the cause, is the earth going through a warming trend right now?"

Depends on the time frame you sample. But according to http://bruderheim-rea.ca/warming6.htm unless you sample a small time frame temps are dropping not rising.

As I mentioned before, I have no interest in researching phony conspiracy theories about the Jews.

Or, apparently, in researching much of anything else.

We're so demanding of you, aren't we Lao... asking you to do a Google search. I mean, it's not as if that book has influenced some of history's greatest monsters or anything.

But hey, this seems to be a trend with you. You simply can't be bothered to read about anything that takes even the slightest effort.

Yes, I do.

Boy, you need to earn intellectual respect to get it from me. Merely turning food into shit is not enough to do it.

Now isn't THAT just the million dollar question. It's the same one I put to every moonbat troll hanging around in every comment thread on every conservative blog, and I never seem to get a satisfactory answer other than "I have to make sure this blog doesn't become an echo chamber."

Posted by: Cylar at November 21, 2009 4:40 AM

Yes, I do.

Oh, great response. Really gets to the heart of the matter with those three words. Of course, in this thread alone you've shown no intellectual curiosity, freely admitting you don't know what the hell we're talking about and have no intention of finding out. And we're supposed to take you seriously?

To tell the truth, Cylar, I know the answer. I just wanted to see what Lao's response was. And, as usual, he didn't bother to answer.

Lao, like the other trolls, is here because of his hatred towards conservatives. I've been arguing with people like him for quote a few years, and one characteristic 90%+ of them have is a deep loathing for anyone who doesn't walk lockstep with their own views.

Ordinarily, a liberal might hang out in a true echo chamber like Kos or DU (where conservatives are banned), but it takes a special kind of hate to drive someone to post comment after comment in a hostile conservative blog like this one. In the end, Lao and his ilk aren't trying to convince us of anything... they're just venting their rage at the heretics.

I've said it before: to a liberal, there's only one true crime: thoughtcrime.

A man's desire to express his superiority, may be his only weakness.

"but it takes a special kind of hate to drive someone to post comment after comment in a hostile conservative blog like this one."

"A hostile conservative blog" ain't that the truth. Fortunately, hostility directed at me is like water off a duck's back. I couldn't care less.

I don't hate you. I come here to inject some much needed reality. At least, reality from my point of view, I understand you have your own version.

If I were a "hater" I would spew profanities of the type I regularly receive here. I don't.

I do my best to respond, and if I don't know the answer, I say so. That trait alone separates me from pretty much everyone on the far right. That faction seems to regard admitting they were wrong as heresy. More often than not, when I back someone on your side into a corner from which they can't wriggle, the response is to leave, to curse, or to change the subject.

See you later on in threads further up the screen.

I KNEW Lao would wait until this thread dropped off the main page before replying, so he could get the last word in. Predictable. Not going to happen, buddy.

"A hostile conservative blog" ain't that the truth. Fortunately, hostility directed at me is like water off a duck's back. I couldn't care less.

Oh, bullshit. You've a history of whining and pouting over how you're treated here. You DO care. People who don't care don't stay where they're not wanted.

I don't hate you.

No, not buying that either.

I come here to inject some much needed reality. At least, reality from my point of view, I understand you have your own version.

(sigh) There is only one "reality," which is independent of anyone's point of view. What you are talking about is "opinion." You are here to inject your ill-considered opinions. And no one asked you what your opinions are.

If I were a "hater" I would spew profanities of the type I regularly receive here. I don't.

There are different kinds of hate. You don't toss obscenities, but you are as snide and condescending as any other leftist here. Your comments radiate contempt, and you are somehow shocked that it is returned?

I do my best to respond,

I really hope that's not your best. Seriously. You rarely answer questions and often dodge issues that are uncomfortable. To be perfectly honest, you're just not very good at this.

and if I don't know the answer, I say so.

You could at least try to find out what people are talking about. It's not too much to ask.

That trait alone separates me from pretty much everyone on the far right. That faction seems to regard admitting they were wrong as heresy.

(blink) Wow. We're in a thread about Al Gore and global warming, and you're accusing the right of refusing to admit when it's wrong?

That takes balls, Lao.

More often than not, when I back someone on your side into a corner from which they can't wriggle, the response is to leave, to curse, or to change the subject.

Oh, man, that's some serious projection you've got going there, Lao. I backed you into a corner on this very thread, and you started ignoring questions and changing the subject. Nice try, but don't accuse others of your sins. Like I've said before, it's like being lectured on moderation and decorum by Lindsey Lohan.

See you later on in threads further up the screen.

I have no doubt of that.

And for the record, you're no different than Aquatarkus, Ghost, Andy, Anonymous, or any of the other cookie-cutter leftist drones we get in here. Don't flatter yourself by thinking otherwise.
