Long-Disproven Hockey Stick Infects Climatology Textbook

Posted by The MaryHunter at October 30, 2009 11:50 AM

Just when you thought you finally saw the last of that silly, disproven "hockey-stick" model of global warming, it rears it's silly little head again. Two sensible scientists discuss the background of the infamous graph that supposedly portrayed global temperature fluctuations over the last millennium as having been basically flat until the last 100 years, when "Evil Mankind" started that "Evil Industrial Revolution" thing, which has now doomed our planet. Only problem: the hockey stick was a fabrication. And yet, these scientists have found this bit of revisionist history in a new college climatology textbook.

Data gleaned by numerous atmospheric scientists revealed a distinct medieval warm period from roughly 950 to 1250 A.D., which they labeled the Little Climatic Optimum. The scientists also documented a significant cooling period between 1645 and 1715, called the Maunder Minimum because of the apparent lack of sunspots.
Alas, these dramatic events were missing from the hockey-stick graph. How could that be? The investigative work of a couple of dedicated scientists demonstrated how the raw proxy data was analyzed and subjected to questionable statistical manipulation to create the hockey stick.
By 2005, the graph had been exposed as invalid, and it is now disavowed by climate scientists. Even the IPCC stripped the graph from subsequent publications of its organizational reports.
Despite the rejection of this particular piece of tenuous science, the new editorial team tasked with producing the 2010 edition of the particular textbook in question has resurrected the hockey-stick graph. In this newest edition, the hockey-stick graph replaces the original temperature trend graph that remains the field's accepted and verified representation of temperature changes over the past 1,000 years.

To remind:

The hockey stick vs. reality.

The infamous hockey stick has been known to be a fallacious statistical manipulation for four years. And yet, faced with actual facts, the "academic" climate change alarmists who write our textbooks prefer lies to scientific evidence. The only way to push their agenda is to obscure, confuse, and infuse a new generation of innocents with the ludicrous impression that mankind is to blame for some nonexistent trend toward unending global warming.

Following formation of our dense atmospherre (from, yes, greenhouse gases), for most of the historical global temperature fluctuation, and that ultimate barbecue-esque end of our planet, we have largely the Sun to blame.

More fun facts on global warming myths can be found here.

Ya want global warming? Here's yer global warming.

Wow! That is one great jack-o-lantern! And just in time for Halloween.

The climate dingbats' singularly spectacular symbol of The Big Lie (surpassed only slightly by the AlGore CO2 and Temperature time trace, wherein Temp rise PRECEDES atmospheric CO2 increase, NOT the other way around).

How fitting that the hockey stick found its way officially into Academia (since the textbook is gospel) only after having been fully exposed.

In the liberal world view:

Q: What do you call something which gives you heat, energy, and light from above, all for free?

A: Government.

Is it any wonder that narcissistic moonbats show an inherent bias towards mankind regarding the source of the oppression of the polar bears? If nature was responsible for climate change, then there is nothing to give up and feel pious about.

The energy contained within all the world's uranium reserves is approximately 2.2 x 10^23J.

Approximately 1.5 x 10^22J of solar energy strikes the Earth each day.

With those factoids in mind, let's do a bit of math. Approximately every two weeks, the Earth receives more energy than is contained within all the recoverable uranium in the world. In that time, the sun has given us more energy than we could ever hope to dig out of the ground, even when you include fossil fuel reserve (which, globally, contain only about a tenth of the power of the proven uranium reserves).

These are some huge numbers that are difficult for many people to understand. Just for another point of comparison, the total energy released by the atomic bomb which destroyed Hiroshima was approximately 6.3 x 10^13J, or roughly 1/238095238th ( 0.00000042% ) of the yearly solar energy received by the Earth.

This neither proves nor disproves global warming, but it should give you an idea of the awesome power of the solar energy received by the Earth, and how minor fluctuations in the total solar energy received, such as by cosmic-ray driven changes in cloud formation can alter the Earth's climate.

Don't try to confuse us with facts!

Just as bad as when SLIME(TIME)magazine showed the earth as a frying egg in a frying pan i mean the lies from these gren extremists is never ending and read the book THE POLITICLY INCORRECT GUIDE TO GLOBAL WARMING & ENVIROMENTALISM by CHRIS HORNER telling how KING WILLIAM THE FINK(CLINTON) and AL BORE used the same hockey stick and how the UN and other left out the MEDEVLE WARM PERIOD

The Political Left is at war with science, and in love with emotion.

To quote Ronaldus Maximus:

"Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so."

A Time for Choosing, Address on behalf of Senator Barry Goldwater - Rendezvous with Destiny, October 27, 1964

But don't think for a minute they are well-meaning misguided fools - the Political Left is truly and totally evil, and so is their agenda.

What's that?

Wait...don't we have laws against that stuff? I know this because I watched "Breaking Bad" on TV last week.

The present climate of Alinsky community-organizer politics from the WH together with the Pelosi-Reid driven scandalous madness in Congress is enough to drive sane people mad.

But the antics of the Gore-Hanson Warmiacs has been more persistent and frustrating to this scientist guy. For years I've followed this polemic between real scientists and the gobmint-grant-driven Chicken Little set. To see the hockey stick rise out of the swamp again is most disheartening.

I guess the plan is to slam a puc into BO to propel him onto the alter at Copenhagen to officiate at that nutty enviro-gobmint scheme. Won't it be fun to pay off our alleged carbon debt to the UN todies and third world gimmies?

Remember Dagwood, head down and beating the table moaning, "GIVE ME STRENGTH, give me strength..." ?

Do you REALLY expect a silly liberal to understand that?

"Climate Change" control-goons (as most liberals) don't care how big their lies are. Since their constituency has and average IQ of

The election of Big Zero means only one thing: the average intelligence of the average American is dropping quickly and dramatically. When our generation is gone I fear it's all over. There won't be anyone left who knows how to design and build a bridge - much less maintain it. As an example I give you manned moon missions. The average combined power of the computers on board the lunar-lander and command modules was about 1/10,000th that of a modern Blackberry and calculations were done largely with slide-rules (because slide-rules worked quicker than a computer in those days). Try doing that today.

Americans have become stupid and lazy welfare dependents, who, rather than taking the responsibility for self-betterment/national betterment, just sit on their fat, lazy butts and let an inept government spoon-feed them perfumed crap laced with sugar.

Lights out America.

Those of us who are prepared will survive. The typical suicidal government-dependent liberal will starve and rot. This isn't 'prophesy' or my opinion, it is historical fact.

I know, I know - the only history liberals "do" is their own revised kind that has no basis of reality. Just because socialism has never, ever, ever worked before is no deterrent to the mentally challenged (dumbasses).

For the story behind the first hockey stick graph, see this account of the chicanery.

The second try is exposed here, and it's no less blatant and unscientific than the first.

The overall picture is perhaps best explained in this concise and comprehensible critique written by Professor Lindzen at MIT. It covers every significant aspect of the hoax, including its financial importance to its promoters.

Politics and junk science come together in this post. Anthropogenic global warming, now rebranded as "climate change," is a tool used by rascals to control humanity by imposing the lunatic preachments of eco-zealots. If the truth were known and understood by the electorates of a few nations, the juggernaut could be stopped. Unfortunately ignorance prevails. That allows greedy terror-mongers like Al Gore to spread panic.

Benson: great post, but unfortunately your second link seems to be not working properly. Could you possibly repost it, as I'd love to see what it contains.

I'm horrified to find that my link to Prof. Lindzen's fine article was incompetently constructed. Mea culpa!

Here's a hyperlink (tested and working) and the URL en clair.

Many thanks to Mandilbe Claw! And apologies to all.
