Progressive Fascists Demand Gay Radio

Since everyone knows that the 'Fairness Doctrine' is a euphemism for government regulation of radio content, the Obamacrats have backed off reinstating it. Instead, they are trying to slip content regulation in through the backdoor, through mandating "diversity" and "local content." Obama has even appointed an FCC "Diversity Czar" who openly admires the way Hugo Chavez shut down radio and television outlets critical of his socialist regime.

As for how diversity and local content will help the regime silence talk-radio critics, take a look at what's happening in that crucible of progressive fascism, San Francisco.

Utilizing the same mob-rule tactics that have come to define "progressive" activism in the Bay Area, San Francisco politicians are "encouraging" the new owner of KNGY-FM, known as "Energy 92" to bring back the full-time gay programming it featured until earlier this month.
Activists have already begun a pressure campaign that includes phoning Stoltz at home and peppering him with questions about the operation.

You see, until Stotlz bought the station and changed its format to top 40 music, it featured "dance club beats and gay-themed talk." Five nights a week, the station featured "Karel," the left-lib talker most famous for delaring that he wanted Joe the Plumber (expletive) dead. Since not even the leftist moonbats in San Francisco want to listen to gay activists yammering between cuts of gay disco, its ratings were abysmal. But Progressive Fascism is offended by the notion that guy who owns the station, the transmitter, and pays the people who work there should have the final say in what's broadcast, because they know what's best for you.

For now, the progressive fascists can't do much besides whine and complain, but if Chairman Zero and Kommissarr Lloyd get their way, community organizers will have the power to tell broadcasters what they can broadcast, and more importantly, what they can't.

Maybe an all Broadway Show Tunes Format would work

I worked in Venezuela for a few years and I have never in my life heard things on TV and newscasts said anywhere else.

Colin Powell was more than pissed off wehn he had visited at the time because the stations had a habit of calling Chavez a monkey and making allusions about his indian heritage. Cartoons had bananas for the dark skin president and so on.

Im not sure why or how the stations were closed but the Venezuelan laws which regulated TV in those days where dated back from the 1940s radio days before they even had TV's there. And fines levied for racism on air was still the 1940s equivalent.

maybe they went overboard but every normal country has a standards and practive minimum they have to respect and Venezuela didnt have that.

What the queers are pushing is wrong but after seeing and hearing what was said on air in Venezuela, something had to be done.

If a NYC station started telline people to go out in the street and overthrow the govt. would we allow it to go on the air?
In Venezuela, they did for years after the coup attempt because there was nothing they could do to them which had blown my mind at the time.

Im not a big regulation guy but a minimum standard has to be enforced.

As Air America learned, we don't have to listen. They will have a harder time regulating content on the internet (though I am sure they will try.)

to bring back the full-time gay programming

I'm sorry, I don't follow... What's "gay" programming? Talking about dressing in drag? Buttsex? Fisting? Reach-arounds? Fashion tips for the arse-pirates who want to look good while taking one from the same team?

Seriously, if they're so "normal," why do they need special programming?

How about I demand straight programming which takes time out of the day to talk specifically about how to go down on a chick or how T&A are two of the greatest things on the planet? Or, outright promotions of having sex with women while doing manly things like building a shed.

I realllllllly despise this crap that liberals foist on the American people.

Posted by: AmericanToTheCore at September 26, 2009 8:17 PM

I don't get it. Why don't the progressive fascists just buy their own radio station and play whatever they want?

Posted by: DavidD at September 26, 2009 9:17 PM

Did someone mention...Air America??

Bwahaahahahahahaha!

Posted by: Jay Guevara at September 26, 2009 9:20 PM

And who do they think is going to listen to it except for gays? Liberals are so twisted, they just sicken me.

trey, one cornerstone principle of free speech is that it exists to protect speech which may be deemed "unpopular" "offensive" or "controversial." Speech which is popular, sanitized, and uncontroversial needs no protection.

A second cornerstone principle of free speech is that the creation of government entities capable of regulating speech is too dangerous to be allowed to occur. Government censors, no matter how well-intentioned they may have been when they were founded, always have (and probably always will) exceeded their authority, and have operated to progressively attack views critical of the current establishment. Even if the censors are initially under the control of a benevolent government, those instrumentalities of control will eventually fall under the authority of oppressive leadership, which is why they must never be allowed to exist.

America's Founding Fathers understood this, which is why the First Amendment provides that, "Congress shall make no law [.....] abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press."

There is no provision in the First Amendment related to "reasonableness", which is the legal term which allows regulation based upon prevailing notions of common sense.

Even if Venezuela cracked down on speech to root out some ignorant racist tripe, there is no denying that the dictator Chavez has used the power of government to silence dissent. What has been done to speech in that country is far more damaging than having a few ignorant racists on the air. Venezuela's freedom continues to diminish.

It never had to happen that way. Ignorant racist garbage is only welcomed by ignorant listeners, and as history shows us, as a population grows more educated and more used to dealing with members of different ethnic backgrounds, the overwhelming majority of the population discards and rejects racism of their own will, with no government coercion needed.

Look at the situation in America. We allow Neo-Nazis to assemble and speak, as is their Constitutional right. The public does not take them seriously; only the idiots at those rallies believe the garbage spewed at those rallies. If anything, when Neo-Nazis march through the street, it only breeds resentment and anger in the general public against the marcher's positions.

Just remember, as long as they are allowed to march, then so too are you. By comparison, any opinion you might have is probably less extreme than theirs, so you should have no worries that the government will deem your speech to be "over the line" and worthy of censorship.

The danger in allowing a "minimum standard" to exist is that, eventually, those charged with enforcing that minimum standard will decide to start changing the standard to silence dissent.

The only regulation of radio that should exist is a very limited function performed by the FCC; namely, that the limited radio frequency spectrum is allocated in a way which prevents interference, and prevents any well-funded entity from buying up the frequency space to stifle competition or opposing viewpoints. Check the dial in your home market - if you see large gaps of unused frequencies, as you surely will, then there is plenty of room in the radio spectrum to allow for all viewpoints to be heard, no matter how unsavory you might find them to be.

Of course, the totalitarian moonbats will eventually want to cap and trade the radio spectrum, since moonbats consider anything but moonbat radio to be worthy of destruction. An artificial cap on the spectrum is a convenient way to ensure that there is no "room" for the nation's most popular radio programs, which just so happen to be politically conservative, and therefore unacceptable under totalitarian moonbattery.

I think gay people are great!

Posted by: Jeff K at September 27, 2009 6:00 AM

Why don't the progressive fascists just buy their own radio station and play whatever they want?

Because that would involve using their own money.

Posted by: V the K at September 27, 2009 6:09 AM

V the K,

Progressive fascists already have their own radio station and don't use their own money for it. It's called NPR.

Progressive welfare recipients don't pay for National Peoples' Radio. Only working taxpayers do.

Posted by: Anonymous Countermoonbat at September 27, 2009 6:52 AM

It would be funny if the new station owner was to set up a parody of whatever in hell "gay radio" is and broadcast it, to see how long it would take for these buttpirates to realize he was just making fun of them. Just, you know, go a little over the top, push it a little... but these assbandits are so often a parody themselves, they may never catch on and it would be a waste. Maybe a blatantly straight station?

It will not be long before we will have to build a wall along the borders of the left coast.
