Obama Regime Turns NEA Into Propaganda Apparatus

Art — like economics, the media, and most everything else in the Age of Obama — is heading down a road already traveled in the Soviet Union. Patrick Courrielche, a former employer of the NEA's Director of Communications, reports at Big Hollywood:

On Thursday August 6th, I was invited by the National Endowment for the Arts to attend a conference call scheduled for Monday August 10th hosted by the NEA, the White House Office of Public Engagement, and United We Serve. The call would include "a group of artists, producers, promoters, organizers, influencers, marketers, taste-makers, leaders or just plain cool people to join together and work together to promote a more civically engaged America and celebrate how the arts can be used for a positive change!" …
Backed by the full weight of President Barack Obama's call to service and the institutional weight of the NEA, the conference call was billed as an opportunity for those in the art community to inspire service in four key categories, and at the top of the list were "health care" and "energy and environment." The service was to be attached to the President's United We Serve campaign, a nationwide federal initiative to make service a way of life for all Americans. …
We were encouraged to bring the same sense of enthusiasm to these "focus areas" as we had brought to Obama's presidential campaign, and we were encouraged to create art and art initiatives that brought awareness to these issues. …
Obama has a strong arts agenda, we were told, and has been very supportive of both using and supporting the arts in creative ways to talk about the issues facing the country.

Courrielche is sensibly alarmed by this development:

The NEA is the nation's largest annual funder of the arts. That is right, the largest funder of the arts in the nation - a fact that I'm sure was not lost on those that were on the call, including myself. One of the NEA's major functions is providing grants to artists and arts organizations. The NEA has also historically shown the ability to attract "matching funds" for the art projects and foundations that they select. So we have the nation's largest arts funder, which is a federal agency staffed by the administration, with those that they potentially fund together on a conference call discussing taking action on issues under vigorous national debate. Does there appear to be any potential for conflict here?
Discussed throughout the conference call was a hope that this group would be one that would carry on past the United We Serve campaign to support the President's initiatives and those issues for which the group was passionate. The making of a machine appeared to be in its infancy, initiated by the NEA, to corral artists to address specific issues. This function was not the original intention for creating the National Endowment for the Arts.
A machine that the NEA helped to create could potentially be wielded by the state to push policy. Through providing guidelines to the art community on what topics to discuss and providing them a step-by-step instruction to apply their art form to these issues, the "nation's largest annual funder of the arts" is attempting to direct imagery, songs, films, and literature that could create the illusion of a national consensus. This is what Noam Chomsky calls "manufacturing consent."

The Constitution attempts to exclude the federal government from that which is not its proper business because anything controlled by politicians will be used for political ends when the wrong kind of people find their way into power. The effects of Obamunism on art will be bad enough. Imagine the effects it will have on healthcare.

Ah, yes! Government-produced and controlled art -- for the people, of course! Such a success in Soviet Russia, in Nazi Germany -- I look forward to having the National Gallery of Art stuffed with this dreck; you can toss the Van Goghs, the Renoirs, the Rembrandts, and all the other masterpieces on the bonfire set out there on the Mall -- more of the Dear Leader, all Dear Leader, all the time!

Dare to produce something independent and you will have to lose an ear (if not the hand you paint with) -- no art that fails to feature the Dear Leader can or will be considered "art."

You can imagine how the left would throw hissy-fits if Bush had tried to get the NEA to promote abstinence, faith-based initiatives, or the War in Iraq.

All communist dictators and despots in general considered themselves to be knowledgeable and glorious patrons of the arts. Hell, Stalin actually wrote reviews of Shostakovitch's operas. But as we all know, communism does not breed excellence only worship of itself. This is why Shostakovich went on the become the greatest composer of the 20th century, he had to deal with the oppression in such a way that his true message would not be apparent to the Bolsheviks and Apparatchiks, otherwise they would have killed him.

So it look like the NEA is the official propaganda arm of Obamunism.

It's not like any nea funding goes to anyone but moonbats anyway; they should all be more than happy to take their assigned positions in the machine.

If anything the NEA is responible for our kids not knowing much maybe its time to disband the NASTY EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION or teach kids at home no matter what lamebrained activists judges say

supporting the arts in creative ways to talk about the issues facing the country

I thought that's what the Hollywood moonbats were for?

Man, yeah. THey will burn works of art! And they are hiding the aliens at area 51. And there is a secret plan to use genetically engineered moose as weapons against the electorate! its good we have people like you manning the conspiracy theory fences! A little heavy on the hyperbole, huh?

"...promote a more civically engaged America and celebrate how the arts can be used for a positive change..."

"You can imagine how the left would throw hissy-fits if Bush had tried to get the NEA to promote abstinence, faith-based initiatives, or the War in Iraq."

You will notice that all of those are fiercely partisan issues - healthcare aside, civic pride is something for everybody to get behind. Something much needed these days. Communities are suffering from budgetary issues just like citizens are, and all the things that used to promote civic unity are going the way of the dodo.

This could be far worse. It could be Bush, getting the NEA to promote abstinence, faith-based initiatives, or the War in Iraq...

Why should the Obama regime get credit for turning the NEA into a propaganda machine. I am old and the NEA has been a propaganda machine as long as I can remember. However, the gray statues of Obama all over the place sure will make for a schnazzi landscape, not unlike that park in Moscow where they had all the statues of the commie leaders from there.

Just because the Obama Regime is co-opting public art to spread the propaganda of his regime doesn't mean he's anything like the fascists.... who co-opted public art to spread the propaganda of their regimes.

"The service was to be attached to the President's United We Serve campaign, a nationwide federal initiative to make service a way of life for all Americans..."

I'm sorry, WHUT?!?! This kind of language from the PULPIT is fine and dandy. This kind of language from the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES is abhorrent and tyrannical. SERVE WHOM?!?!? How dare you, sir?

Does this outrage only me? Are we so used to hearing this pap that this kind of nonsense doesn't give us the creeps anymore?!?

Posted by: Anniee451 at August 26, 2009 7:53 PM

Yes, anonymous, I'm sure you were all getting behind "civic pride" while Bush was in office. Begone you miserable baggage and take your stupidity with you already. We're onto all your bullshit and have been a long long time.

A terrible waste of pait and canvas so moonbats can have OBAMAS ugly face with them 24/7

Posted by: Flu-Bird at August 26, 2009 9:10 PM

Given the existing overwhelmingly liberal leaning of the so-called "arts" community, I'm not sure how this would change anything.

They're already servicing the guy for free every day. This is just a pat on the head and a sawbuck on the bedside table.

But if they plan on constructing some grand Rue de Obama they better budget in the vandalism cost, seeing as how it would be my patriotic duty to deface whatever drone shit they put up.

" . . .heavy on the hyperbole," huh, Anon.?

And there are no "Death Panels" in the House healthcare "reform" bill, no illegal aliens will be covered by the "reform" bill, and taxpayers will not be forced to fund abortions under the same bill (I'd call it "Obamacare," but he wants to be as far away from this fiasco as he can get, in case it turns into what it is, a total socialist disaster; once enacted, he'll allow it to be called the "Kennedy Healthcare Plan," if he so deigns, but the Prez will never voluntarily put his name on any piece of legislation - might have to take some responsibility then, you see).

Honestly, aren't you absolutely sick of seeing this nit-wit, this empty suit, this incompetent boob, on TV 24 hours a day, seven days a week, preaching at us, ordering us around like little cogs in the great machine that is now the United Socialist States of Obama? I know, maybe you like it, and enjoy being a mindless drone, having Daddy Obama take care of your every want and desire (give him your liberty, property, et al., that's all he asks) -- just be aware that many of us do not. Can't take the heat, as it were, maybe you ought to get out of the kitchen.

i thought i had seen obama go low but this power push with nea is lower than a snake!

what a slap in the face of all Americans!

NO MORE FUNDS TO THE NEA UNTIL OBAMA (NOT A STAFF MEMBER) AND THE NEA APOLOGY ON NATIONAL TELEVISION FOR TRYING TO USE THE NEA (WHICH BELONGS TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NOT THE WHITE HOUSE) TO GET WHAT THEY WANT WHEN THEY KNOW AMERICANS TO NOT WANT THE OBAMA SOCIALIST AGENDA!

Posted by: mindy rodriguez at September 1, 2009 6:26 PM

The FASCIST PIG OBAMA will be stopped. There is an amazing groundswell of good Americans who are awakening to this Piece of Shit and what he and his Apollo Fascist/Socialist Oinks are really up to ....which is a Fascist/Socialist Dictatorship. You MFR's are all going down....count on it you F'n MFR's ....you are all GOING DOWN!!!!!!!

What? You protest? I think Obama and Pelosi and Reid will be shocked! For years we have been raped by our gov't (Dems and Repubs alike) and NOT ONE PEEP. Just a heavy sigh and a "that's the way it is." While the constitution is sound, the leeway we give congress and the executive branch is out of control! Why should congress vote themselves in pay increases, benefits, lobbying laws, donation laws, cars, jets? Why are they their own ethics committee? Why can the Pres. appoint Czars? Yes. Changes need to be made to insure they work for us NOT themselves.
