Ten Reasons to Get Government Spending Under Control

By allowing government to metastasize wildly during flush economic times, states have set themselves up for an unavoidable crash, now that the economy is slowing down. ABC News lists the 10 in biggest trouble, along with their budget gaps as a percentage of their overall budgets:

California: $53.7 billion shortfall or 58 percent of its budget
Arizona: $4 billion shortfall or 41 percent of its budget
Nevada: $1.2 billion or 38 percent of its budget
Illinois: $9.2 billion or 33 percent of its budget
New York: $17.9 billion or 32 percent of its budget
Alaska: $1.35 billion shortfall or 30 percent of its budget
New Jersey: $8.8 billion or 30 percent of its budget
Oregon: $4.2 billion or 29 percent of its budget
Vermont: $278 million or 25 percent of its budget
Washington: $3.6 billion or 23 percent of its budget
Connecticut: $4.1 billion or 23 percent of its budget

You'll notice that almost all are blue states.

One exception is Arizona, which is suffering severely as an inevitable consequence of the profligate spending spree by former Democrat governor Janet "Crappy Nappy" Napolitano, aka "Uncle Mort." Fittingly, Uncle Mort now works in the District of Criminals, serving an administration that is doing the same thing to the country that she did to her state.

Don't fret, bankrupt states. The feds will bail you out. Then when the federal government follows California et al. into insolvency, the entire economy will collapse, and we won't have to worry anymore, because the government will step in and take care of everything, just like in the Soviet Union.

Arizona owes it all to Uncle Mort.

On a tip from b1bbet.

There's a 3.3 billion shortfall in PA right now. Tax revenues are down because small business and all private employers are getting hammered. Everything is getting cut and Spendell wants to raise state income tax, but S-CHIP is off the table.

There are already 194,000 "kids" on SCHIP in the state, which has a total of 2.5 million youts, and the number is sure to go up as people lose jobs.

They won't stop until we are all dependent on the State.

I'll beat the trolls to the punch who would point out that Palin's Alaska is on the list. According to

"It's all because of the collapse in oil prices. Oil taxes and royalties give the state the vast majority of its revenue."

However, unlike many of the blue states, Alaska ran a surplus last year and doesn't need a federal handout just yet:

"The state has over $7 billion in savings it can use to absorb deficits. Most was deposited last year when the state had a surplus. But those savings could go away quickly.

On top of the $1.36 billion draw that Palin wants for this budget year, which ends at the end of June, legislators expect an additional shortfall of up to $3 billion in the coming year."

Ultimately, the issue is not that local and federal governments tax too little, it's that they spend too much. Even taking most states' requirements for a balanced budget in hand, many states still rely on federal dollars to make their budgets ends meet. What we need is a federal balanced budget amendment to stop the insanity ... but it's not even a remote possibility in the day and age of the freewheeling leftists currently in control of the District of Criminals.

This broad is ugly inside and out. A lot of states are failing because they expect the Obamanator to bail them out. Voters who sided with the Dumbocrats last November have brought into power semi-human liberals that are attempting to destroy our country and way of life. We must resist their assimulation attempts and rebel against their tyranny. Viva Revolution!!!!

Bryherb, damn, then Norman Fell really let himself go.

C'mon Bryherb, the raised right brow is a dead givaway that this is Mr. Spock's momma. She's been livin with the Vulcans so long that its taken any humanity right out of her. Why, she even combs over the pointy ears. Problem is that the old green-blooded hag can't just let us conservatives live long and prosper.

Why isn't Michigan on that list? Granholm was predicting as much as a $3 billion shortfall and was in D.C., on her knees, begging for bucks.

Well,Texas has a $9 billion rainy day fund and was the only state that did not request funds to make their Medicare payments.

I am sure those blue states will be knocking on our door wanting bailouts.

Isn't there an ancient Chinese proverb that goes, "Ugly face, ugly soul"?

If not, I'll take credit for coining it. ;)

On the subject of coining terms, whoever commented here a while back that she had "my Uncle Mort's hair style" needs to stand up and take a bow for that one :D :D Hope it's not copyrighted; I've used it on other sites, as well as here!
