Bureaucrats Plan to Track How Far We Drive

Bureaucratic micromanagers are now planning devices that will be coercively installed in our cars so they can keep track of how many miles we travel and tax us accordingly.

The idea of shifting to a by-the-mile tax has been discussed for years, but it now appears to be getting more serious attention. A federal commission, after a two-year study, concluded earlier this year that the road tax was the "best path forward" to keep revenues flowing to highway and transportation projects, and could be an important new tool to help manage traffic and relieve congestion.

By "relieve congestion" they mean make it so expensive to drive that people just stay home, where the government will be using special thermostats to keep track of whether we're overusing our AC.

Knowing much better than we do how we should live our lives and spend our money, there is nothing Big Government won't regulate and tax.

On a tip from mega.

Listening to terrorists on the telephone is a violation of human rights. Tracking every mile an American drives his personal vehicle is "an important new tool".

What happens if you wrap the GPS antenna in tin foil?

WE MUST START TO DRIVE FUEL EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE VEHICLES TO HELP THE PLANET
-Democrats 2001

YOUR FUEL EFFICIENT VEHICLES ARE ROBBING STATES OF INCOME ON GASOLINE TAXES, WE MUST NOW TRACK YOUR VEHICLE IN ORDER TO TAX YOU FOR BEING RESPONSIBLE"
-Democrats NOW.

Right on Xantl!

I got the exact same thought. The Kleptocrats are victims of a self inflicted wound from greening America.

Don't drive your car. Drive a stake in the heart of the democrat vampire blood-sucker party.

Xantl and Chuck In St Paul couldn't be any more right... They want you to be "responsible" then tax you for being "responsible"...

Just some quick numbers (fictitious) to illustrate the point.

Let's say a lightbulb costs $2, $8 to power it, and last for 50 hours. They'd want you to use $4 lightbulbs that cost $1 to power and last 25 hours. That is just plain stupid. Lest we forget, the $4 lightbulbs are toxic beyond belief (lots and lots of mercury, but they're "more efficient"... sigh) and we would need to buy TWO of them to equal the output.

I don't see how there is any benefit.

Liberalism... mental disease. No doubt about it

They can have access to my odometer when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

"Never waste a crisis!"

I can see that I'm starting a company to build jammers that block the 1575.42 MHz signal. I'm going to make a fortune!

This will disproportionately hurt farm states where long distances must be crossed to get to anything. Not only that, the added cost to truck produce to the cities will make it cheaper to buy imported foods - carbon exmissions from sailing halfway around the world be damned!

Charge those liberals $2000 for every mile they fly in their GULFSTREAMS and LEER jets
