It gets better. Obama thinks energy costs are too low. That's why we need a massive cap and trade scheme to raise energy costs $700 to $1400 a year per family,

Does he think he can fool the masses. What a JACKASS.

Posted by: Watching at March 8, 2009 8:51 PM

Yes, he does think he can fool the masses, because he DID. That's how he got elected. Too bad there is no legal way to get rid of him for four years. We don't get a do over on presidential elections, and even if impeached, there's no guarantee that he would resign.

LOL, you Americans really are the height of arrogance. I love your little article in which you state that if America collapses, it will be the greatest tragedy in the Western World since the fall of Byzantium.

Maybe America will collapse. I don't necessarily think Obama will save you. But empires and nations collapse all the time. The Spanish, Dutch, and Portugese used to rule the world for pity's sakes, and now they are tiny little nations with virtually no global influence. My own nation, Britain, also had a massive empire collapse and is but a shadow of what it once was. Guess what, the Western world is still standing.

Countries rise and fall. If you guys honestly believed you'd be a superpower forever...that's just ridiculous. You honestly think you're going to be the only empire in the history of the world to stand the test of time? Give me a break.

That was a very arrogant post, silly Englanistani twit. Isn't it time for you to bend and kiss allah's ass for the 5th time today as commanded by your new rulers?

Speaking of Britain, how's the run on the banks going?

Posted by: Rob Banks at March 8, 2009 9:44 PM

If Obama raising the tax rate = socialism, then sorry guys, we have already been a socialist nation.

Check out this graph. It records the top tax rate from 1920 to the present:

http://www.balloon-juice.com/?p=18106

Even with Obama allowing the Bush tax cuts to the rich expire, our top tax rate under Obama will still be lower than it was under Clinton, Reagan (first term), Nixon, and Eisenhower.

Under Eisenhower, a Republican, the top tax rate was 91% (under Obama's plan, it would be 39.6%). 91%. He used these taxes to expand government programs such as the GI Bill, social security, disability and welfare benefits, and infrastruture projets such as our highway system.

So sorry guys, if you consider what Obama is doing now to be socialist, then, BY YOUR OWN DEFINITION, socialism has actually existed in this nation for decades, and we were at our MOST socialistic during Eisenhower's Republican administration.

So, all the regulars should be asking.....

What was the one VH post, later today that hit a real Troll nerve? Some Troll is 'butt hurt' over something. Well, my statement was actually redundant since Progressive Liberals are usually physically 'butt hurt' on most days.

Ann is hot!

Gays still can not, and most likely will not be allowed to legally marry in CA because Democratic Party voters hate Gays in CA and made sure they voted yes on Prop 8.

Too bad the Democratic appointed CA supreme judges also agree with the majority of CA Democratic voters that Gays will not marry in Ca and this is not a Gay 'right'.

Jimbo,
Uh, how is my saying that the collapse of my country DIDN'T devastate Western Civilization being arrogant? You do realize that arrogance= thinking a lot of yourself, correct?
That's like me saying "I'm not very good at golf" and you telling me I'm bragging. Does not compute.

Rob Banks,
Britain's not fairing well these days. The Pound continues to fall daily. I never said anything to the contrary. I am only responding to the notion that America, should it fall, would be among the greatest tragedies in the history of the world.

But we survived the Great Depression and the Western World is still in tact, and we have survived the fall of many, many empires.

I ask you, do you mourn the break up of the Holy Roman Empire? Do you read history books and just weep at how much worse the world is today because this once powerful and affluent empire no longer even exists? Do we have memorials and books and films commemorating this empiric collapse as one of the greatest tragedies in human history?

If the answer is no, I don't understand why you expect Westerners in the future to do that for America.

Also, please take into consideration my friend George's post (I am visiting George in America right now) when you wax on and on about socialism.

Posted by: CrackrJak at March 8, 2009 11:16 PM

Brit-anon - I obviously can't read your mind (and wouldn't want to if I could), but I really believe you are mistaking arrogance for pride.

Same thing? No. We've had something to be proud of for 200+ years - less than a heartbeat in the total scheme of things, but none the less - the heartbeat that gave life's blood to many generations of liberty not just for us, but folks around the world. Those of us who still carry that pride look at the purposeful destruction of that legacy by a socialist dumbass as a slap in the face. And yes – whether you recognize it or not – the fall of liberty in the United States DOES absolutely affect every human on the planet. You’ll have to fight your own wars now, ‘old chap’. Just because your country has given up the will to ‘live’ – we haven’t. And Texans like me will fight to our dying breath to see liberty continues. We aren’t quitters like you.

So according to Anon Americans shouldnt want their own country to be great.

America will not be the world's premiere superpower forever, but the country is powerful enough to survive Obama's attempted castration of it and could still continue to be the world's greatest superpower for the rest of our lifetimes.

Besides its not like the rest of the world is enjoying economic bliss either. This is a worldwide recession, but anti-American propaganda is quick to focus only on the U.S.

For ignorant people like Anon, here is the definition of "empire"...

"a group of nations or peoples ruled over by an emperor, empress, or other powerful sovereign or government: usually a territory of greater extent than a kingdom, as the former British Empire, French Empire, Russian Empire, Byzantine Empire, or Roman Empire."

Idiot...

Speaking of moronic inhabitants of Great Britain did you hear about what happened to George Galloway? He organized a moonbat relief force to run supplies to Gaza from Egypt and his convoy was attacked by Egyptians who wrote anti-Hamas slogans during the attack. This is the same convoy that 3 terrorist suspects were planning to use as cover to leave Great Britain and commit terrorist attacks.

The people of Great Britain and the United States both suffer from moonbattery and we should join together to oppose such stupidity.

@ Jimbo,

Well, its about time you longhorn rednecks woke up and started worring about protecting yourselves, and maby the rest of the country!

Seems like Texas is finally awaking to the Illegal Alien invasion from the 'south of the border bunch' (and I don't mean bumper stickers in the Carolinas).

You'all about to be over run by an explosion of violence from the Illegal Aliens and the Illegal Drug and Human Trafficing trade.

Read an article that Texas finally is starting to awake to the threat. About time.

Now go over to New Mexico and kick their asses to awake.

Hugs-n-kisses you pinapple long horn!

I am only responding to the notion that America, should it fall, would be among the greatest tragedies in the history of the world.

Well, considering most of the posters here live in America - hell, yeah! we consider the country going down the toilet pretty bad news!

I ask you, do you mourn the break up of the Holy Roman Empire?

Followed by the Dark Ages? I'd sure mourn it if I'd had to live in the aftermath of it!

Uh, how is my saying that the collapse of my country DIDN'T devastate Western Civilization being arrogant?

One difference - by the time your country ceded it's empire, we were prepared to step up to the leadership position. We are kind of a Britain V2.00, you know. But if we go down, who steps up to the plate now? My money says China.

Which wouldn't be the end of Western Civilization, no. But it's a good bet the next country to assume leadership won't be a Western one.

If America retreats from the world stage, who would take over? The UN? They are glorified policemen. When was the last time UN forces were involved in real offensive military operations? Most of the UN troops are the worst of its member countries.

Britain has become pretty much irrelevant in the world and pretty much useless these days. They have their own problems to deal with and no longer have a global presence.

As for China. Granted they would have an increased presence econmically but they dont have the ability to project their power much beyond east asia and they are more focused on economic development to keep their huge population satisfied enough so they dont care about about living under and authoritarian political system nor about political or civil rights.

An America that withdraws within its own borders will turn the world into a much more dangerous place. And people wanting to flee to freedom would no longer have any place to go. Chaos would reign probably including regional conflicts (even going nuclear) between powers like Israel/Iran, China/Taiwan, North/South Korea and Pakistand/India. With Europe slowly being invaded by radical Islam, they will have enough to deal with on their own. And when a disaster or tragedy strikes, no longer would America be there to kickstart aid operations. The US Navy is normally the first to arrive on the scene due to its global reach.

These indeed are dangerous times.

The mistake the US made was that it helped the Brits during WW II - should have let Hitler reduce the entire country into a file of flaming wreckage before it went on the offensive and crushed Hitlers Aryan Brotherhood. I have more respect for a Russian than I do a Brit - at least they have balls the size of basketballs. Look at how many them Ruskies the Nat-zees killed, millions of em, and they kept fighting. Brits are pasty white jokes that think Mr. Bean is a cultural icon, Dr. Who is real sci-fi, Haggis is anything but crap and still tolerate sideshows like the socalled Royal Family. There are a few good Brits with balls, but 90% of them are worthless.

Yeah - but at least that stalls him long enough for the next congressional election. Kicking him out of office doesn't buy us anything. Just keep throwing tacks under his tires until his term expires....

There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.

Another enlightened citizen of the world, no doubt.

"If America retreats from the world stage, who would take over? The UN? They are glorified policemen."

You should have said "they are a police force without POLICEMEN". A Liberal on another site said that the Iraq problem should be turned over to "UN troops" and I pointed out that the UN has no military and it would be the US that would have to supply the armed forces. She then wimppered that it would be "better" because they would be under UN control, so I shut her up by asking how it would be so since US solders would STILL be in Iraq which she found so objectionable!
Liberals are soooo STOOOPID!

"Anonymous at March 9, 2009 6:24 AM"

Since England and the Commonwealth Countries kept the Axsis at bay long enough for America to BEGIN to create the greatest military force in history, joining "their war" was the LEAST we could have done.

Interesting comments about the fall of the US and of Britain.

History shows that when a country stops support of Israel, it falls. Perfect example: Britain after WW2, on the downward slippery slide as a world power. The US takes it's place (while supporting Israel).

1492 the Spanish expulsion of the Jews, and Spain goes downhill from there.

There are greater powers at work here, and if the US stops supporting Israel, watch what happens...
