Hitler Youth Alumnus Has Been Here Before

Today's political climate is ominously familiar. Hilmar von Campe remembers where we've seen it before — having been a member of Hitler Youth. The author of Defeating the Totalitarian Lie warns:

Every day brings this nation closer to a Nazi-style totalitarian abyss. … I lived the Nazi nightmare, and, as the old saying goes, "A man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument." Everything I write is based on my personal experience in Nazi Germany. There is nothing theoretical about my description of what happens when a nation throws God out of government and society, and Christians become religious bystanders. …
Democratic procedures can be subverted and dishonest politicians are like sand in the gearbox, abundant, everywhere and destructive. What I see in America today is people painting their cabins while the ship goes down. Today in America we are witnessing a repeat performance of the tragedy of 1933 when an entire nation let itself be led like a lamb to the Socialist slaughterhouse. This time, the end of freedom is inevitable unless America rises to her mission and destiny. …
The silence from our pulpits regarding the moral collapse of American society from within is not very different from the silence that echoed from the pulpits in Germany toward Nazi policies. Our family lived through the Nazi years in Germany, an experience typical of millions of Europeans regardless of what side they were on. We paid a high price for the moral perversions of a German government, which excluded God and His Commandments from their policies. America must not continue following the same path to destruction, but instead heed the lessons of history and the warning I am giving.

As Voltaire noticed, "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him" — if only to provide a moral defense against the horrors that inevitably result from progressive ideology.

On a tip from Daman.

If I remember correctly Europe wasn't that happy with the final outcome from 1933. They are all celebrating in the streets now, wonder how they will like it later. This country has many more resources than the little country of Germany had then. The paperhangers dream come true. You think the Democrats are power hungry now.

As a Democrat, I am literally begging you to continue this "Obama as Hitler" and to publicize this belief as much as possible.

Just keep pushing Sarah Palin as President in 2012 and Obama as Hitler. Just focus on these two things and go on talk shows and scream it from the rooftop. I can think of no better way to marginalize the Republicans even further than they already have been. Any respectable conservative publication is nothing but embarassed by you "know nothing" conservatives, whom they charge with destroying the party. Keep this up, and there will be a true Republican Civil War on their hands.

Us Dems don't even need to do anything, you guys are so anxious to destroy yourselves!!

Yes yes, I know. I'll be eating my words when my Republican mother is shoved into a concentration camp by Obama's evil army.

You betcha!

Posted by: yikes at November 14, 2008 11:37 AM

And btw, know that liberals ARE reading your "Obama as Hitler" websites, and LOVE when you guys post on this subject, and everytime you do they repeat your posts for everyone to read. I am seeing on moderate and liberal websites oodles of copy and pasted comments from the lunatic fringe right. As soon as you guys post it, a liberal copies it and pastes it so all the moderates can see what insane nutjobs you really are. This "Obama is Hitler" is literally the best thing to happen to the left...since the election of course!

I know you think you're upsetting us, but you're not. We are absolutely giddy. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep posting things like this!!! PLEASE!

And also, if you could just forward all your posts to it would be really helpful to us, that way we don't have to seek this stuff out on our own.

Every time you do, I do a little dance!

It's so great to be a Democrat these days!

Aw SHIT guyz, I think Barak HUSSEIN and McCain are in kahootz! Whut are we gunna do about this? Shit, I'm gunno go buy some more guns, and gas up the ATV'S!! this is gettin bad! GOD HAV PITTY ON US ALL!!!!

Obama is not Hitler but he certainly appears to have studied the man and his methods.

It may seem like a great time to be a Democrat by as the saying goes:

"After a time, you may find that having a thing is not so pleasant as wanting it. It is not logical, but it is often true."

There were Reagan Democrats in the 80s. Now we are seeing the conservatives whose opinions are read by the power players who make policy and industry decisions (hint, not you) have become Obama Republicans.

But you know, keep on keeping on. I'm sure is REALLY going to have an impact on anyone whose name isn't "Billy Bob."

Yikes, youre kidding right?

Obama is the most liberal politician in modern times in US politics - even moreso than Jimmy Carter. Plus, the UK has been so subverted by liberalism that what is defined as center-right means to the right of Stalin.

Obama will self destruct in his own time. He cant possibly placate all the crazies that put him in power and govern in the center as he campaigned. The bar has been set so high with all his over the top soaring rhetoric (i.e. this time will be remembered as when the ocean stopped rising and the earth began to heal) that he has no place to go but down as the reality of the economic and world situation dooms him.

Obama is not the same as Hitler but the cult of personality that he has become is very similar.

In one of the few things he actually got right, Karl Marx said,"Hegel remarks somewhere that all great, world-historical facts and personages occur, as it were, twice. He has forgotten to add: the first time as tragedy, the second as farce.”
We won't be getting another Hitler. With any luck, it will be four years of Mel Brooks.

After 8 years of the Left screaming Bush = Hitler, it's more than a little disingenuous to treat any notice of Obama's creepy cult of personality as absurd. Leader worship is no more consistent with rational democracy than liberalism is consistent with long-term survival.

Obama is a 21st century demagogue; concentration camps are so 20th century. In any event, if it came to it, Obama wouldn’t have to push your momma into the oven – you’d do it for him.

Liberal ideology is dead end street, and a short one at that. Keep your liberal conceits that anyone who disagrees with you is racist, stupid, and on the way out. It’ll make it that much easier to wrest the country from your soft hands.

Obomites/Sheeple/Socialist/The lost ones

I don't think that this is comparing Obama to Hitler. What it shows hear is the contrast between the two and the dangers of national socialism. We are already headed that way with all these BUY OUTS. A nantional Police? Sound familiar? The fairness doctrine......Hmmmmmm. What about those who supported McCain? They were threatened and some times beaten or spat upon. Has any one ever seen a nationalist socialist party propaganda film that shows the crowds during speeches? Their all euphoric with their eyes glazed over so entranced by this man about his hope and change. Look where it got them. Look at the crowds today....same as then. The national socialist party came to power during the worst of economic times at that time. What going on today, in my opinion, is the same thing that went on back then.

Obama has aligned himself with people that don't care much for this great nation....does that mean anything to anyone here? Sure as hell does to me. Why are all these extremist home grown and abroad so taken up by him? Huh? Why do the LIBS get sooooo bent out of shape when the future administration's agenada is compared with the national socialist Party of Germany in the 1930's?

I'm going to by this book by Van Campe and see if maybe I can learn something from someone who has experienced these kinds of turn of events. Maybe you libs/socialists could stand to learn a few things yourselves. Sounds you guys Got duped just like the germans some 76 years ago and Von Campe is giving us warning....a man that has been through this before.

Tragedy: drama in which a protagonist is brought to ruin essentially as a consequence of some extreme quality which is both his greatmess and downfall.

I suppose when the claims and counter claims stop, some playwrite will someday try to take our quaint views and write the great tragedy for some people who have barely heard of Obama. Like King Lear and Othello and Oedipus, Obama will be the name of a too long tragedy read by unhappy school children. Of course, the facts will have been long since distorted and twisted until very little truth is in them.

The unhappy children will write essays based on the actual play using reference material they find. They will compare Obama to Hitler, Caesar, Alexander, Charles Manson and probably Woody Wood Pecker or Donald Duck. A teacher will grade these essays depending on the current political bias in vogue at the time. It is ironic that if the child sees Obama in a favorable light that the grade will probably depend on whether the teacher is scratching it out on a wet clay tablet while she is sitting in a hovel lit with a fat-burning lamp or if she is sitting in a glass and chrome tower speaking to a computer that is recording her words.

The interesting thing about the new far right talking point "Obama as Hitler" is that the argument is always "The Germans had no idea who they were voting for/what they were getting into either." That's just a lie. It's not like they thought they elected some nice guy who was all about hope and change and unity who then became Hitler.

The Germans knew EXACTLY what they were getting into. Unlike Obama, whose message has been unity, Hitler ran his campaign on scapegoating the Jews, socialists, unionists, and various ethnic minorities like gypsies, and promised Germany they would be "cleansed" of such people and returned to true Germans. The only thing the German's DIDN'T know in advance was that these people were to be killed. They were told they would be given their own land, or simply deported. He wrote Mein Kampf BEFORE he came into office.

IMMEDIATELY Hitler was elected, Germany saw a massive exodus of these Jews, communists, unionists, and various ethnic minorities like gypsies. Unfortunately most of them didn't run far enough- only to France or Holland, believing that Hitler's aspirations would be contained within Germany. But they knew it was time to go.

Despite the claims of this one Hitler Youth member, when you read the work of Holocaust scholars and survivors that has been published in the last few years, their warnings are almost all about YOUR kind of mentality in America. Especially your anti-intellectualism and branding anyone with intelligence and education as an "elitist." Hitler did this same thing, even called them elitists as well, and in fact any non Nazi party university students were the FIRST victims sent to the camps, before the gays or the Jews or anyone else.

Do you think any rational person would read the articles on this page, especially the ones regarding homosexuals and minorities (who you refer to scathingly as "deviants" and "parasites" which were key Nazi terms used against these same groups), and would think that the people who post here would be anything other than SS members were they alive in 1930s Germany?

Posted by: Watching at November 14, 2008 2:51 PM

The Germans knew EXACTLY what they were getting into EXCEPT, well, that's a pretty damn big exception there, the whole genocide thing.

We're not trying to draw a 1-1 correlation between obama and Hitler, just drawing some parallels that are potentially disturbing. We don't pretend to know the future, but being as it affects us greatly it's worth pondering the possibilities, and preparing for the worst of them. Obama's message has hardly been of unity; his scapegoats are the "wealthy" producers (and the definition of "wealthy" has been a moving target) and some specious "corporate greed". Total class-envy stuff. "We're gonna take from them [whoever they are, just not you] who obviously don't deserve it and make it better for you [yes, you, I'm pointing at YOU]".

How is it we're of the mentality that belittles intellectualism? In fact, we quite respect the intellectual process. Pay attention. We simply have no patience for the pointy-headed elitists, and that's what they are, that toe the PC line and expect to be respected for the alphabet soup following their names. You have to be able to filter out the trolls that think they can parody us.

I fancy myself well educated (not all formally) and quite the intellectual, at least in the sense of applying logic to facts to reach conclusions. Don't have the alphabet soup, but there you go.

Y'know, a few years ago I lived in a university town; actually, my apartment was right across the street from the front gates. I took a little time & updated the 25 "planks" of the Nazi party platform to modern sensibilities (changing as little of the wording as possible), and wrote them up as a 'survey' kind of thing. Ya know what? The more liberal someone was, the more they agreed with 'ol Schickelgreuber. Hardcore hippies were 21 for 25. Most college kids scored between 17 & 19.

Of course, the look on their faces when I showed them the source material was absolutely priceless. It did concern me somewhat that none of them showed any signs of introspection though. No signs of re-examining their beliefs. Nothing but denial & anger. I guess the truth really is insulting to liberals; their world-view is so out of touch with reality that when their inconsistencies and condradictions are exposed, they just can't handle it & react like two-year-olds.

Naturally, I was smeared as "hateful", "lying", blah blah blah. The funny thing was, a lot of the reactions I got just reinforced that my point was valid. Liberals are far closer to Nazis than Bush & co. will ever be. Too bad they were too worked up to see the irony.

Posted by: hiram at November 14, 2008 9:04 PM

It is apparent that you believe that Obama is a socialist AND like Hitler. So, here is a little history lesson for you.

Hitler HATED socialism. He belonged to the German Workers Party. Socialism was very popular in Erope and Russia at the time. The German Workers Party hated racial and social equality and especially hated the Jews who they blamed for the spread of socialism. They were German Nationalists and were angry about Germany's lose in WWI blaming it on the Jews. They particularly resented the Treaty of Versailles [look it up].

Hitler speeches turned out to be the party's biggest draw. He exonerated the German people for the lose and blamed the Jews. He had a lot of influence in the Party. To draw more members and because socialism was popular he renamed the party The National Socialist Workers Party - but it was not a socialist party. What they believed is that there should be equality for German citizens ONLY! They called for the reunification of all German people. And blamed all of Gemany's problems on the Jews, intellectuals, Gypsies, and aliens. When Hitler was elected the first to go were the University students and professors.

The rest is history.

So, Obama does not embrace the same beliefs as Hitler.

But you guys do.

Posted by: Anonymous at November 15, 2008 10:30 AM

Yeah, all of these libtards are right. Why would anyone want to listen to von Campe when we have plenty of Obamatrons right here telling us from their mom's basement that everything will be fine? I mean, sure, they don't even take the time to make up a name, opting for the mantle of 'Anonymous', but we should just trust them, right?

Someone said those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it, but that can't apply to us, can it? I mean, there is no way of anything remotely dangerous happening by blindly following a charismatic leader who promises the world, is there?
One who opposes virtually everything I think is right, who has no principles whatsoever, and changes like the wind. He has ties to so many unsavory characters that he is either incredibly corrupt or incredibly stupid; neither of which are admirable traits.

But no, I should take the word of Anonymous posters over the insight of someone who was duped just as they are being duped.

Posted by: Harris at November 15, 2008 10:50 AM

In my own words:

"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions." --Adolf Hitler

(Speech of May 1, 1927. Quoted by Toland, 1976, p. 306)

I was pretty audacious in my day too!

Posted by: Adolf "Mr. National Socialist" Hitler at November 15, 2008 11:28 AM

You can't rewrite history. Obama in NO WAY resembles Hitler. Hitler hated:
- socialism
- communism
- gays
- Jews
- gypsies
- college educated
- the left wing
- trade unions
- aliens
- non-Aryans
- taxing the wealthy

You think because Obama was popular he was like Hitler?

Hitler was NOT popular among the general population when he was elected. He was, however, popular in his party.

You need to stop simply regurgitating what you hear.

For you edification:
History of Hitler

It might help you sleep at night.

Posted by: Obama is not Hitler at November 15, 2008 11:35 AM

OK, I read back over the comments to see who made the Obama = Hitler claim, and of course, it was only the three-headed moonbat.

Obama is not Hitler. As vile and evil as he was, Hitler was smart. Obama and Biden are more like cartoon characters.

The message from von Campe is to avoid becoming, well, a mindless zombie who has no clue how their candidate is going to deliver on His promises.

I visited the Imperial War Museum in London a few weeks ago and watched the videos of Holocaust survivors; the repeated theme was, "We had no idea it would get that bad."

(Interestingly one man told the story of how his classmates and teacher ostracized him for being Jewish, eerily like what happened to the girl doing the t-shirt experiment.)

If you get the chance, simply walk through the third floor Holocaust exhibit and see how things started small and escalated out of control.

Von Campe is not saying Obama is Hitler, he is saying some of this sounds familiar and we should be careful. You can spin it any way you like, but I would much rather remain cautious than find ourselves in a position where history will eternally declare us villains.

Posted by: nobody at November 15, 2008 12:58 PM

Everyone knew what Hitler was about when he was elected. Mein Kampf had already been written and his speeches were well reported on.

So, on the face the argument is incorrect. People knew exactly what he was about. He made no secret of his hatred of Jews although he toned down his rhetoric for the election making different speeches to the working class and the industrialists. He used propaganda to frighten people into thinking their way of life was going to be taken from them by the socialists and communists [sound familiar?]. He embraced Ford's hatred of Jews and hatred of trade unions and openly talked about it. It was out there. He said he was going to round up the undesirables that ruined the country. What he didn't tell them was that it included his political rivals and that he was going to kill them. But how can you possibly support someone who showed that much hatred toward one group of people even if he didn't tell you he would kill them? Hitler didn't invent anti-Semitism he just exploited it. Read the history and then decide for yourself. Someone saying they didn't know is someone who chose not to know.

Have Obama's speeches been filled with hate? What national hatred has he exploited to rally the public around him? Did he write a manifesto about the virtues of domestic terrorism with the help of Bill Ayers? Who has he promised to rid the country of? Is he promising to round up political opponents and place them in concentration camps or is he embracing them?

Now don't get me wrong, I haven't had the Kool-Aid. To me Obama is just another politician and there are legitimate reasons not to like his policies. But this stuff is so ridiculous that I feel compelled to defend him.

About Bush and Hitler, here is just a few similarities:

1.Neither were elected by the majority of the popular vote but did some political maneuvering to gain office.

2.Both saw their respective nation's unique historic destiny almost as a religious cause sanctioned by God.

"I would like to thank Providence and the Almighty for choosing me of all people to be allowed to wage this battle for Germany,"

On the other hand, Joe the Plumber asks one simple question and offers a criticism of 'The Anointed One' and his privacy is unlawfully invaded.

However, liberals can trash Governor Palin all they want, no backlash from anyone in power.

I'm not saying Obama is like Hitler but he and his zombie acolytes are a frightening cult of personality.

Okay Obama is not like Hitler.

Obama will have access to nuclear bombs--Hitler did not

Obama has access to instant global communication--Hitler did not

Hitler was insane--at this point, Obama seems to just be silly and naive (Charlie Chaplan aside--Hitler never seemed silly).

Hitler had a stated plan for Germany and the world that he stayed faithful to--Obama doesn't seem to have any plan that doesn't change once a week or until the first question (which ever comes first).

Liberals complaining about Hitler comparisons? What world did I wake up in? Judging from the last eight years, I thought that was all they could talk about.

But now they want to want like rational human beings again? From rabid grizzly to care bear because of this election? Won't last.

They'll revert; like some domestic abuser (labeled "The Left, Then") in a political cartoon I'd like to see wielding a baseball bat and screaming "sexist-racist-fascist" in the first frame, beating down on an unseen figure. In the next frame, the same guy smiling and happy ("The Left, Now"), saying "I forgive you" to a severely beaten Lady Liberty (black eyes, broken teeth, bent crown, broken torch); while Uncle Sam lies in a pool of blood on the floor.
