NASA: Global Warming Was Caused by Ocean Oscillations, Not CO2

Despite the ironclad unanimous consensus that only totalitarianism can save us from a global warming apocalypse caused by mankind's CO2 emissions, scientists are still coming up with new theories to explain why it got slightly warmer during the twentieth century, and has been getting cooler ever since. Now we're told that 70% of the warming was due to Pacific Ocean oscillations. From NASA, via The Strata-Sphere:

[T]he radiative forcing from greenhouse gas emissions in the last century is not nearly enough to explain the upward trend of 0.7 deg. C in the last 100 years. This raises the question of whether there are natural processes at work which have caused most of that warming.
On this issue, it can be shown with a simple climate model that small cloud fluctuations assumed to occur with two modes of natural climate variability — the El Nino/La Nina phenomenon (Southern Oscillation), and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation — can explain 70% of the warming trend since 1900, as well as the nature of that trend: warming until the 1940s, no warming until the 1970s, and resumed warming since then.

This means that all the draconian measures being proposed to save us from the imaginary CO2 menace would have no perceptible effect on climate change.

There is one thing all sane people should be able to reach a real consensus on: the climate naturally fluctuates. Dancing around a bonfire and howling at the moon are as likely to change this fact as any economically ruinous government initiatives.

On a tip from Smoke TNT.

Finally someone noticed all that water covering over 70% of the planet. Now if they could just relate the temperature of all that water to the huge nuclear furnace in the sky maybe the idea that Man is insignificant in the larger scheme of things like planetary cycles will enhance populist understanding.

Well, well.

What are James Hansen and Gavin Schmidt going to say? They can't be happy that such news is out.

Now the liberals are going to say that they're silly posturing and symbolic gestures are what saved us from global warming, so we owe them for averting disaster.

Mark my words. You heard it here first.

OT

In a parody of a parody, Rangel takes a break from trying to impeach Bush, to file charges against himself.

Insiders speculate the Democrats will next impeach Gore and then proceed to consume their own flesh in a violent spasm of cannibalism.

That's right! Al Gore came out in favor of a global cooling timetable several years ago, so now he can take credit for the temperature reversal regardless of its causes.

Gee, it's nice for Al Gore to be able to play "both sides of the street". It is possible when you are unfettered by something inconvenient like the truth.

Bet the media says not one word about this. Assholes. As Iopian said, its that giant ball of burning hydrogen our planet orbits that causes this to happen.

"Ya'll say it's the sun, but Al Gore says it's us-humans. He's tellin' us we better buy some carbon credits, or it's lights out, America!"

"Mark my words. You heard it here first."

Actually Jay, I had suggested that the AlGorians SHOULD take credit for the cooling in the past few years IF THEY HAD ANY BRAINS.
But they DIDN'T take credit for it, so obviously they DON'T have any brains!

The simple model used here to argue for natural variations as an explanation of global warming is highly flawed.
