MSM Lawyers Up to Silence Critics

When it comes to justice, you tend to get what you can afford to pay for, and the mainstream media has very deep pockets. The brazenly propagandistic Associated Press has exploited this sad fact, closing down snappedshot.com by hauling it into court for posting copyrighted images.

The fair usage rules by which blogs put up images copyrighted by the establishment media apply particularly clearly in the case of snappedshot.com, which is devoted to critiquing deceptive photographs used by the AP et al. to lead us around by the nose.

The site is going offline and is probably done for. How many bloggers can outspend the AP on lawyers? Unless some very crucial pro bono work is done, this could be the beginning of the end for the blogosphere — and for the free flow of information in general.

It was one of my favorite blogs. I hope Brian puts it back on-line.

It's very clear that the AP is pulling this crap not because copyrighted images are being used. They're doing it because they're being skewered for paying local jihadis in the mid-east to take supposedly unbiased news photos - and Brian is busting them.

It is also an election year, and we would not the voting masses to actually find out that the MSM is not forthright in all of thier reporting.

It looks pretty clear to to this layman that under the fair use provision AP doesn't have a legal leg to stand on. That probably doesn't matter since the purpose of their action is to intimidate, which seems to be successful in this case.
I would have given them a single digit salute and kept going, but that's just me.

Van, I would like to "borrow some of this posting" in order to make an effort through my Rep in the House (a lawyer), who might have connections here with conservative lawyers who may help with thisn issue. Let me know if I have your permission to do so please.
