Biofuel Boondoggle Will Double Greenhouse Gas Emissions

It's a good thing the global warming crisis isn't real. Otherwise all the ethanol bureauweenies have mandated in its name would be making it much worse:

The widespread use of ethanol from corn could result in nearly twice the greenhouse gas emissions as the gasoline it would replace because of expected land-use changes, researchers concluded Thursday. […]
The researchers said that farmers under economic pressure to produce biofuels will increasingly "plow up more forest or grasslands," releasing much of the carbon formerly stored in plants and soils through decomposition or fires. Globally, more grasslands and forests will be converted to growing the crops to replace the loss of grains when U.S. farmers convert land to biofuels, the study said.

Meanwhile…

President Bush signed energy legislation in December that mandates a six-fold increase in ethanol use as a fuel to 36 billion gallons a year by 2022, calling the requirement key to weaning the nation from imported oil.

We could drill our own oil, except that moonbats like John McCain won't permit it, apparently because he'd rather pour money into terror states than risk the wrath of the Sierra Club.

The study's findings aren't likely to change government policy, since ethanol mandates are a political boondoggle that only dupes expect to have any effect on the climate. If the first caucuses were held in Hawaii, they'd be forcing us to run our cars on macadamia nuts instead of corn.

We should try to CONSERVE our own oil and not use it all up. Our kids might like some to use too

My, my....I have so much to look forward to when I finally reach twenty...Ten years from now, they'll be back to global cooling. If that happens, mabye they'll actually repeal some of these braindead policies being forced on us.

"Please ignore the men and women behind the curtain stealing your wallets."

Oh, we have! Since around 1980, or so....

Doh!

A perfect example of what special interest money can do to influence legislation and law of the land.

Doh!

Ya'll had better figure out what Reps and Sens are up for election this coming year, and make your opinions and votes count.

And, Hash, "up your's baby" as the great liberal Donald Sutherland would say.............

You know how we've been saying that environmentalism is a Marxo-Fascist ploy to keep the lower classes down while the elite continue to enjoy all the perks of technological civilization... like air travel? Well, there's new evidence.

The leader of the Cuban Commie Parliament tells us the reason ordinary Cubans are not allowed to travel is because "If everybody in the world, all six billion inhabitants, were able to travel wherever they pleased, there would be a tremendous traffic jam in our planet's airspace. People who travel are really a minority.".

Second, two environmental fascists have authored a book on the theme that the global warming "crisis" (and by crisis, they mean "hoax") justifies the replacement of democracy with a global authoritarian regime.

The trouble with environmentalism taken to its extreme (not that I accuse you of falling in this category, JR), is that our kids won't get to use it, either. It is to be conserved in perpetuity -- which begs the question of why we should conserve anything, if its usefulness will never be enjoyed by anyone.

I sometimes think the fastest way to develop alternative fuels is to use up the conventional fuels as quickly as we can.

And, Hash, "up your's baby"

Don't give that twink any ideas.

Ethanol use will also drive up food prices. The enviro-Moonbats really dont think things through, do they?

Its pretty clear McCain will be the Republican nominee. This year it will be a vote for the lesser of two evils. McCain vs Osama or Shillary? Ill close my eyes and vote for old Lettuce Head.

I love the TV ad 9I think it's BP) where the farmer says something like: "I grow the corn, we make it into fuel, then I can use the fuel to run my tractor the next year."

He sums up the idiocy and inefficiency of the whole boifuels racket pretty well except for neglecting to mention the tax-funded subsidies and higher food prices.

And that's supposed to be an ad in favor ethanol.

Chicken feed went up $2 a bag this week in my area.

And yet there are a growing number of scientists that all say that Peak Oil, even the very idea of Fossil Fuels, is horseshit. Oil is abiotic and Peak Oil is yet another tool of elitist douchebag control freaks like The Club of Rome, made up of Socialists who want to control the world.

peak oil, global warming, socialists will just try anything to gain control of other peoples lives.

John, hash, your people demanded this, and the "solution" was implimented. But now we find that it's caused NEW problems. So WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO SOLVE THESE NEW PROBLEMS?

Posted by: KHarn at February 8, 2008 5:25 PM

Corn for oil is not bad. It is a good approach to combat oil countries, stupid but a good idea. I personally believe oil taken out of earth is replaced at about the same rate it is taken out.

Let me add as I have live in a farm state, we can grow insane amounts of corn. Ask a farmer.

Ask a farmer if any of you want a real political discussion. And no not a corporate farmer.

Posted by: Mr. Parker at February 9, 2008 9:36 PM

Hey, you can STILL elect a TRUE CONSERVATIVE as your president: Me.

I promise MORE subsidies to corn farmers in Midwestern Bible Belt red states. A DECREASE in fuel efficiency standards to promote using TWO gallons of fuel to make ONE gallon of ethanol. Making IRAQ our 52nd STATE and nationalizing their oil industry. And REDUCING TAXES, which are bad.
