"Conservative" British Group Wants to Start Banning Appliances For Gaia

Global warming is highly unlikely to affect our standard of living — too bad the same can't be said for belief in global warming. As part of their campaign to pander to this politically correct hoax, Britain's alleged "conservatives" will propose banning appliances like plasma televisions on the grounds that they offend Gaia by using too much electricity.

The Quality of Life Policy Group, set up by Tory leader David Cameron, is also targeting refrigerators, freezers, personal computers, and DVD players for restrictions. Under the group's proposals, caps would be set on how much energy appliances can use; those that exceed the caps would be banned. This would include most plasma TVs.

The group also wants to stop using Gross Domestic Product as a measure of success in favor of "a model that measures people's happiness drawn up by Friends of the Earth."

In short, they are both authoritarians and kooks — just like Labour. It makes you wonder why people bother voting.

Soon to be banned in Britain?

On a tip from Wiggins.

This kind of thing is the reason less and less here in Britain do bother voting. Politicians mither about the electorate being "disengaged" and how they can make it easier to vote; the truth is more and more of us are so horrified by the policies on offer from three nigh identical parties, we stay home. Add to that an electoral system that actively discourages new parties, and no seperation between the executive and the legislature, etc, and we're heading down the toilet at an astonishingly rapid rate.

It's funny. You say to green supporters- "the greens are trying to take away your lifestyle, they want to destroy western comforts, they want to throw us back to the dark ages" and you get called an alarmist kook.

Then the conservatives, the supposed conservatives, come out with policies like these. I feel very much that I'm experiencing one of those historical periods when the leadership of a society are clearly insane, and later on everyone looks back in disbelief and says "how could that happen, how could people think that?!"

Cameron is, needless to say, just one of that horde of youngsters who were converted to greenism two decades or so ago, as it swept the universities. That generation are now inheriting the political reins of our society. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Maybe they should change the name of their country to "Once-great Britain."

Or "United Dorkdom."

I assume that you're invoking the title of the 1930s novel "It Can't Happen Here". The phrase was used ironicly throughout in book, which went on to show JUST HOW it could happen to America. I feel that it's superior to the much-touted "1984" and that more people in this troubled age should read it.

If this is what passes for conservatism in the UK, I'll pass. No wonder it's ripe for dhimmitude.
