Venezuela's Tailspin Continues

Hugo Chavez has shoved Venezuela another step closer to total ruin by seizing control of giant Orinico Belt crude oil projects.

As the socialist fools at Reuters approvingly note, Chavez made his move on May Day, exactly one year after his fellow thug Evo Morales seized Bolivia's gas fields, "accelerating Latin America's struggle to reclaim resources."

Contrary to the pro-communist spin served up by Roto-Reuters, the criminals running Venezuela and Bolivia are not "reclaiming resources," but assuring that resources cannot be fully exploited. Not only will foreign (let alone domestic) investment be impossible to acquire in countries where there is no rule of law, but the expertise needed to run oil projects is being driven away. Chavez is turning to his totalitarian buddies from China, Iran, and Belarus — admitted even by Reuters to lack the know-how of the Western companies that have been running the projects.

The result will be higher oil prices for us, and more poverty for the ignorant peasants who together with fellow-traveling Western liberals make up Chavez' power base.

People who like Noam Chomsky should not be running countries.

Perhaps one day, America will embrace socialist revolution and become as rich and prosperous as Cuba!

It's hard to believe that a national leader can be so profoundly stupid. By taking over oil production, he is killing the goose that laid the golden egg for Venezeula.

Inflation is running around 20% because of his absurd economic policies, so what does he do? He just raised the minimum wage by 20%! That should help inflation a lot.

Sheesh. Go socialism.

I ask again, where's the Venezuelan military? If they haven't all been bought off, it's clearly time (way past time) for a coup d'etat. And while you're at it, encourage your brothers in Bolivia to take action, too.

If Bush were to seize control of foreign held companies in our country, I wonder if Reuters would say we were "accelerating America's struggle to reclaim resources."

I somehow doubt it.
