Berkeley After Measure G: Totalitarian Envirohell

Just how far will the currently fashionable envirolunacy go before sanity reasserts itself? No one knows, but Berkeley offers a clue, having overwhelmingly passed Measure G, an absurd initiative mandating an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Now power-drunk bureauweenies are spelling out how this will be achieved.

The "good" news is that inmates of the asylum known as Berkeley will get "free" bus passes. Landlords will be compelled to buy them for tenants. The command-and-control socialists who dictate rent will generously allow the landlords to raise their rates $7 per month to defray the cost.

The bad news is that the militant hippies who run this freak show have successfully exploited the global warming hoax to extend their micromanagement to every last aspect of human existence.

Table scraps are to be composted. Normal light bulbs that don't turn your house into a toxic waste site if they break are banned, as are Wedgewood stoves and gas-powered water heaters. Builders will be allowed to use only recycled and "green" materials — even for small residential projects.

Energy will be created with inefficient solar panels. Property tax hikes will cover the outlandish costs.

Older appliances must be replaced. Insulation and windows must be upgraded. Garages must be equipped with outlets for electric cars. Can't afford it? Too bad.

Bureaucrats will track exactly how many "carbon units" individual citizens generate by keeping tabs on details not even Big Brother would have bothered with — what kind of car you drive, how far you drive it, how much waste you generate, how much energy you consume, etc., etc.

Don't like living under a magnifying glass? That's too bad too. Because it's not as if this escalating lunacy is limited to Berkeley.

On a tip from Mike.

I don't have anything against individuals deciding to do things like this on their own initiative. I think it's crazy, but if a person freely "lives green" based on his beliefs that's okay. But when governments step in and force these things on people that is what is known as tyranny. These people haven't a clue what a free country is. Or was.

i'm convinced - they definitely have a look about them...

Don't live there, never will. I wouldn't pi** on one of the residents of Berkley if they were on fire. Who will help them when a disaster hits them and one will eventually get around to them. I guess the government will use 'green' as in other people's money to rebuild the pig sty instead of just covering it and starting a large pig farm.

I know/knew a former professor from there and thought I knew him well until one night he uttered out that the US should have joined forces with the Soviet Union during the cold war. Oh YES these mutts totally believe in Communism/Mommy knows best....of course they think they are part of "Mommy" like Mother Mike Bloomburg the tools have no idea about anything

Time to serve up a MOAB for Bezerkley.

I lived in Rockridge (the Oakland Hills community across University Ave. from Berkeley) for several years.

The lunacy is very, very real. Berkeley is one of the most dangerous places in America.

If you were to leave a car unattended, and that car had, say... a pro-life bumper sticker - it would get keyed, its windows broken, tires flattened, and be decorated with swastikas within a few hours. Berkeleyites do that to demonstrate their deep tolerance.

Oh - and don't even THINK of carrying your nuke through town - even in your trunk. They outlawed nukes many years back...

"Time to serve up a MOAB for Bezerkley."

Doesn't take long for the tolerant right to show it's true face.

Judging by the less than minimal attractiveness of Berkeley's smelly hippies, and applying the evolutionary law that "ugly people breed less than attrative ones", one might assume the hippie index to diminish generationally...one might be wrong.

Apparently there is something grossly, chemo-attractive about the combination of BO and patchouli oil that us regular Americans don't understand, as hippies keep multiplying like rabbits.

gunboat -

Liberals know NOTHING about tolerance. (Or sarcastic humor.)

Posted by: Jimbo at May 25, 2007 7:39 AM

I must have missed out on the tolerance in gunboat's liberal left when they were wishing crib death on Mary Cheney's baby.

Readers also may want to revisit the info on why compact fluorescent bulbs are dangerous.

Ed, I think it's safe to say that these people aren't multiplying like rabbits at all, they're just hanging around for a while.
From Phillip Longman's The Liberal Baby Bust.
"The greatly expanded childless segment of contemporary society, whose members are drawn disproportionately from the feminist and countercultural movements of the 1960s and '70s, will leave no genetic legacy. Nor will their emotional or psychological influence on the next generation compare with that of people who did raise children."

Many years ago, I showed up in Berkeley as fresh-faced, fashionably lefty grad student. Within three months (literally) of seeing leftist antics, logic, and policies, I became the right-wing curmudgeon you know and love today. Living there is like receiving a lifelong vaccination against leftist crap.

gunboat

big difference between someone making a joke (the right)

and the left who actually ARE violent and intolerant.

Remember, the left is very, VERY dangerous. If they could, they would control every aspect of your life, and decide who lives or dies. Liberals are the TRUE Nazis.

Posted by: NudeGayWhalesForJesus at May 25, 2007 1:17 PM

VtK's link to that post is very frustrating. I knew liberals were bad people, but to want a baby to die! All in the name of...what? Tolerance?

I just don't understand the liberal mindset. It's like reading a novel and the bad guys are always really evil, and you can't relate to them, but you relate to the good guy trying to do good and help others.

I've known a few people who went through SIDS, it's nothing to joke about. I remember with my own kids, going into their rooms at all hours of the night, making sure they're still breathing, turning the monitor up real loud so I can hear them breath...

But then when you say killing a baby in the womb is okay, then killing it as it's born, then as long as the cord is still attached...it's just the next step to say before they can talk or walk or while they still sleep in a crib; or raping a child in Vermont is all good. Disgusting.

But I'm sure gunboat is probably concerned...about polar bears.

I'd also like to point out something.

Liberals read this site and sites like this. They're not interested in the posts, it's the comments.

When you see them comment, rarely do they have anything good to say. They just wait, and as soon as someone makes a comment they view as "intolerant" they jump on it. They use it as their example to illustrate how the right is bad.

Notice when they do that, it has nothing to do with the post, which they ignore since they can't argue against it. They pick out that one comment... I've seen them months later bring it up again and say "see, the right is just as bad as the left, remember that time when someone said this or that", completely ignoring logic or common sense.

I'm not sure why they do that. If they can't defend their positions, don't. If they want to live the way they live, fine, but don't act like we're somehow just as bad, a la moral equivalence. They should just accept that they're the bad guys and live with it.

We can choose to live in harmony with the earth or choose to close our eyes to the destruction and waste that we are creating for fleeting pleasures.

Words are powerful We can use them to create collaborations or to create seperation. It takes courage to turn away from blame and shaming and mocking and to uphold positive solutions.

Words of seperation and hate and blame and mocking has created a pattern of misery.
In this there is no possibility other then conflict and discord.

Each moment we have a choice to make the world a bit brighter for those around us- we have a choice and nothing is stopping us from transforming our world other than our collective apathy and stubborness. We can have a world that works for the common needs of all as in clean air, clean water, food , healthcare, shelter. This is not a liberal idea. people all over the world need these things.

We live in a priveleged country- we take many things for granted and feel entitled to things like owning land etc. Our economics is a human thought construction and it is up to us humans
to turn this system around where the earth matters. For without the life giving ecosystems that support life - we are nothing.

What we sow- we reap-- and the struggles and wars on this planet are all about who controls access to commodities of water, timber, minerals , gold, diamonds and oil and even human labor.

What we are trying to do in Berkeley is not about being selfish. - If property and money is important you can make money on solar technologies and products that are energy efficient. It is foolish to waste food, energy and our planet resources.

No matter how much wealth or land one accumulates- the question is how much does one person need to live for we all eventually die and can't take the
wealth with us. But we will destroy each other and the earth to get that wealth.

Think about it.

I live in and love Berkeley. Also I do not believe in much of the so-called facts stated in this article. I do not know anyone getting a bus pass from their landlords or anyone saying I will be arrested for using a (regular) Incandenscent light bulb. Not only is this article insulting; it is also untrue!!!
