Marvel Comics Kills Off Captain America

The folks at Marvel Comics have decided that the inveterate patriot Captain America had to die.

Evidently they tried to turn him from a patriotic hero into some kind of half-baked civil rights activist in a recent "Civil War" storyline. Now they've decided to kill him off.

Series writer Ed Brubaker is all too aware of the Sentinel of Liberty's political aspect:

What I found is that all the really hardcore left-wing fans want Cap to be standing out on and giving speeches on the street corner against the Bush administration and all the really right-wing (fans) all want him to be over in the streets of Baghdad, punching out Saddam.

Says 93-year-old Joe Simon, who created Captain America together with artist Jack Kirby in 1941:

It's a hell of a time for him to go. We really need him now.

That we do. But if the alternative is for him to degenerate from a superhero into some moonbat who denounces his own country during wartime, they did right to put him out of his misery.

Another formerly patriotic superhero appears to be on the same track. Writer Matt Fraction explains how the Punisher will be coming to the Southwest to deal with those evil Minutemen:

It involves the Hate-Monger and it's a grim fucking journey. The Hate-Monger is backed by a new National Force. For those that may not remember them, they were sort of the super Klan and now they're under the direction of a reborn Hate-Monger working as kind of a hate militia along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Once superheroes nurtured healthy feelings of patriotism. Now they tell kids that trying to defend your own country from invasion makes you a "Hate-Monger." There is nothing moonbats won't poison to death with their toxic ideology — not even comic books.

A patriotic hero born of the Greatest Generation, consigned to oblivion.

On a tip from Charles.

I propose a new character called insane liberal.

amoung insane liberals powers will be the ability to blind himself whenever the light of truth is switched on.

he will belong to the ACLU league and fight his insane ideas from his Ford Diesel Explorer while champion globeallwarming from his huge flying mega 747 flying lawyer depot. allowing his army unfettered court room access anywhere in the world.

in his wake will he human deaths and carnage that only true liberals will enjoy.

see insane liberal take out the pope and santa in the 2007 happy holidays special. or the amazing Septemeber 11th 2007 special where he gives osama the gift of a new kidney from the corpse of a dead american soilder killed from a road side bomb he showed the arabs how to build.

I used to love Captain America. I have a suspicion we'll be seeing him again real soon though.

Big deal! They killed off Superman about 10 years ago, and they brought him back.
To be honest, I always thought he was kind of lame. Now if they were going to kill off Spiderman, that would be tragic.

Captain America didn't have any super powers. As kids we always assumed he was like the leader of the superheroes. But he couldn't shoot webs out of his hands or outrun a speeding bullet or anything.

They should kill him off, then bring him back as a result of a nuclear strike near his cemetery, causing him to have cool powers. Just a thought. They could kill him off by Borging him, then he'd come back with powers of collective reasoning. No wait, that's like socialism. He'd be Super Socialist! Able to redistribute wealth in a single bound!!

Doesn't really surprise me in the least. Its Marvel Comics we're talking about.

Marshal Law should make a comeback. He could fulfill every moonbats fantasy...

Hmmm, here is a silly is a comic book! Has anyone ever heard of a storyline? And IF (this is a big IF), IF Capt.America was killed because of someone at Marvel and his/her politics, shame on them. But I also think we all know that Steve Rodgers will be back as Capt.America and all we have to do is wait.

Like it or not Capt.America is just as his name implies...the red, white, and blue. And for those who feel that politics must play into this, note that Capt.America would NEVER talk bad about the president of the good `ol US of A nor let any enemy harm our great land without giving his all to stop it.

God Bless and Keep Faith;
See you soon Steve Rodgers (the real Capt.America)and enjoy your "time off".

That is really unfortunate, I like Captain America. I'm currently reading a couple trade paperbacks which contain the whole 'Winter Soldier' storyline. Still, if killing him off is the only way to keep him from being turned into an uber- leftist hippy hero who smokes pot and fights Republicans, at least he'll go down with some dignity. I know it's just a comic book, and very few comic characters, if any, stay dead, but it's still just sad. But, on the plus side, in a couple years, they'll be making a Captain America movie, that should be great.

Even worse--- Cartoon Network cancelled Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law !!! At least they are bringing back reruns of Space Ghost Coast to Coast and making new episods of 12 OZ. MOUSE.

The only question I have is why now? Captain America is one of the greatest hero so why now? I don't see him being dead for long. I think they'll bring him back. The only question now is how will they bring him back.

This quote is priceless:

"...all the really right-wing (fans) all want him (Captain America) to be over in the streets of Baghdad, punching out Saddam."

Its as if it is somehow bad to do exactly that. These dayz it is now extremist to want to see our fascist enemies defeated.

Good point FN.

He was created back in WWII. Imagine back then if they'd said "really right wing fans all want him over in Germany punching out Hitler".

It wouldn't make sense. Have we sunk so low to imagine only extremists would want harm to come to our enemies?

There really is no marvel comics, with out the captain. The good guys will always live by his example, I'm just one of them. Long live Captain America!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Captain America is our hero. He is America in the Marvel universe. It is a tragedy that he has fallen(I know it's a only a comic book) but he has not failed. Captain America cannot die, just like America cannot die. He will fight on if not himself then others in his steps. Do not loose faith in your country,or your heros when the darkest hour is upon you light your mother fuckin candles, and FIGHT!!!!!! We are AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
