Environmentalists Call For Execution of Global Warming Skeptics

The US-based environmental publication Grist Magazine is a significant player in the global warming movement. Moonbats as prominent as Al Gore and Bill Moyers think enough of it to have granted it one-on-one interviews to promote their various projects. Now Grist is promoting a project of its own: Nuremberg-style war crimes trials for skeptics who refuse to drink the global warming Kool-Aid.

Here's what Grist has to say about "the denial industry":

[W]e should have war crimes trials for these bastards — some sort of climate Nuremberg.

Gore himself is fond of the phrase "global warming deniers" to describe infidels who won't buy into his apocalyptic fantasies. Some resent these terms, including Roger Pielke, Jr. of the University of Colorado's Center for Science and Technology Policy Research, who writes:

The phrase "climate change denier" is meant to be evocative of the phrase "holocaust denier." [...] This allusion is an affront to those who suffered and died in the Holocaust.

Comparing the chimera of human-caused global warming to the very real horror of the holocaust — as if driving an SUV were the moral equivalent of making people into lampshades — is gaining traction among the increasingly frightening fanatics who dominate the environmental movement. If they were in control, their frenetic desire to silence anyone holding opinions they deem environmentally incorrect would very possibly overcome the liberal aversion to capital punishment. But as Brendan O'Neill has pointed out, executing the opposition isn't really necessary:

Whatever the truth about our warming planet, it is clear there is a tidal wave of intolerance in the debate about climate change which is eroding free speech and melting rational debate. There has been no decree from on high or piece of legislation outlawing climate change denial, and indeed there is no need to criminalise it, as the Australian columnist suggests [he means Margo Kingston]. Because in recent months it has been turned into a taboo, chased out of polite society by a wink and a nod, letters of complaint, newspaper articles continually comparing climate change denial to Holocaust denial. An attitude of "You can't say that!" now surrounds debates about climate change, which in many ways is more powerful and pernicious than an outright ban. I am not a scientist or an expert on climate change, but I know what I don't like — and this demonisation of certain words and ideas is an affront to freedom of speech and open, rational debate.

O'Neill continues:

Behind the talk of facts and figures we can glimpse the reality: an authoritarian campaign that has no interest whatsoever in engaging us in debate but rather thinks up "shrewd" ways to change the way we behave. From the description of facts as "so taken-for-granted that they need not be spoken" to the lumping together of climate change deniers with Holocaust deniers — and even Holocaust practitioners — we can see a creeping clampdown on any genuine, open debate about climate change, science and society. This represents a dangerous denigration of free speech.

Free speech is only the beginning of what envirokooks threaten. Imagine people who might have you hanged for not agreeing that smoking cigarettes causes climate change in a position to do their worst to the economy. It would make the Great Depression look like a golden age of prosperity.

If Gore becomes President, he'll be signing bills with a crayon. It would be irresponsible to let him have any sharp objects.

Oh joy, its the Ecological Inquisition with Al Gore standing in for Torquemada.

"Recant these delusions of there being no global warming or else." In the background hear the snap of a whip and the groans as the rack is employed followed by the screams of the torture victim.

The hell of it is, if this comes to pass the ones found guilty won't even be allowed a final cigarette before the firing squad/gallows. The tree huggers won't want to contribute to pollution.

What a rediculous argument. Gore says climate change deniers and you relate that to the holocaust? fuckin ignorant. If I call you a truth denier does that mean I'm envoking the holocaust? Oh god!
