Joan Chittister, Moonbat Nun

Not even the Catholic Church is safe from the corrosive ravages of moonbattery, as Sister Joan Chittister proves in an appalling editorial that takes blaming the victim to obnoxious extremes by asserting that 9/11 turned the world upside down — thanks to America's wickedness.

According to Chittister, no one knows why Muslims attacked us, and no one has tried to find out. America lashed out blindly, randomly going after the first country that came to hand:

In the midst of national grief—and for many, anger—all that mattered, apparently, was who to strike in retaliation. Anybody would do, it seemed.

By some bizarre coincidence, the country we lashed out at happened to be the one providing al Qaeda with its main base of operations. America followed this crime by politically incorrectly putting an end to the genocidal, terror-supporting dictatorship in Iraq. As a result, "the world divided in its loyalties, most of them against us."

If the world really is maleficent enough to side with al Qaeda, the Taliban, and Saddam Hussein against its last best hope America, we'll have to be ready to fight the whole planet. What else can we do, succumb to pure evil?

As for Chittister, she already has. Muslim terrorists would be hard pressed to find a more enthusiastic propagandist. Americans are hysterically denounced as "invaders, torturers, paranoid partners in global destabilization" who "pick up people in grand random sweeps, call them terrorists, hold them without charge, detain them without lawyers, cage them like animals," etc. etc. ad nauseam. As Chittister undoubtedly knows, some people will choose to take these calumnies seriously — to al Qaeda's great benefit.

The psycho sister goes on to accuse America of being responsible for the terrorist regime in Iran pursuing nuclear weapons, of degenerating from a democracy into a kingdom, and of not being a Christian country.

The last charge is especially ironic when you consider that Chittister has blamed the dreaded Religious Right for the USA's insufficiently supine foreign policy.

To the nutty nun's credit, she once made an amazing discovery. A couple of years ago she was exploiting Bill Moyers' sympathetic PBS forum to denounce American forces in Iraq when she stumbled upon it by accident:

I'm absolutely certain that some of the people that we're killing over there are pregnant women. Now what do you do? Now what do you do? That's military abortion.

Imagine that: a form of abortion not endorsed by liberals. No wonder the Church overlooks her evident mental problems and lets her be a nun.

As a Catholic, I have to ask why the Church permits these loons out on the street? I thought her purpose is to save souls, not tell them how they are going to hell. But then, Sister Joan is a modern woman and the next thing she will probably be telling us is that nuns should have the right to say Mass, hear confessions and grant absolution.
It is unfortunate but we judge a Church by its representatives. At a time when the Catholic Church, which does more charity work in the world than all other religions combined, is being judged by immoral and wayward priests, she has to compound the problem.
I wonder if she realizes that if she were a Muslim woman she would be stoned to death for her comments about her own faith?

It is childishly easy to prove that the United States did NOT lose its collective temper and lash out blindly:

Mecca still exists. The Arabian Desert is not now one large sheet of faintly glowing glass.

Sister Mary Moonbat is too typical of the clerics we (Catholics and Protestants) suffer. For some dumb reason they think their expertise goes to all thing temporal. She should stick to praying her rosary.

I think her rants about the Catholic church 'patriarchy' give away the game. Maybe a little Dutch boy should stick a finger in her pie-hole and make her STFU.
