Phony Professor Disowned by Real Indians

The sick joke that is Professor Ward Churchill of the University of Colorado is actually starting to become a little bit funny. It took awhile, but his essay vilifying the victims of 9/11 and praising the terrorists who murdered them is turning out to be the loose thread that will cause his whole costume to come unraveled.

The American Indian Movement Grand Governing Council has this to say:

Ward Churchill has fraudulently represented himself as an Indian, and a member of the American Indian Movement, a situation that has lifted him into the position of a lecturer on Indian activism. He has used the American Indian Movement’s chapter in Denver to attack the leadership of the official American Indian Movement with his misinformation and propaganda campaigns.
Ward Churchill has been masquerading as an Indian for years behind his dark glasses and beaded headband. He waves around an honorary membership card that at one time was issued to anyone by the Keetoowah Tribe of Oklahoma. Former President Bill Clinton and many others received these cards, but these cards do not qualify the holder a member of any tribe. He has deceitfully and treacherously fooled innocent and naïve Indian community members in Denver, Colorado, as well as many other people worldwide. Churchill does not represent, nor does he speak on behalf of the American Indian Movement.

Meanwhile, the Colorado State House of Representatives has issued a unanimous resolution condemning Churchill for making "a number of statements and contentions that are deplorable and do not reflect the values of the people of the State of Colorado."

Not that WC doesn't have his supporters. Boker tov, Boulder! offers an eyewitness report of an anti-Churchill rally at University of Colorado that was swamped by pro-Churchill counterprotesters who did their obnoxious best to silence criticism of their role model. Some of the pro-Churchill group reportedly were members of the College Democrats who pretended to be Republicans for propaganda purposes.

With luck Churchill's downfall will be the beginning of some badly needed housecleaning at American universities.

I can hear Gabby Hayes. "Ward, you really messed up this time. You done made the Injuns mad."
Seriously, I think Ward Churchill is the personification of what is wrong with Academia these days. TOO far left, without any sobering voices within these institutions. Relying on freedom of speech to support thier causes, and using protests and censorship to shut down any voices to challenge them. Twenty, thirty years ago they could get away with forcing thier idealogical garbage upon the masses of students. They can't do that any longer, people are beginning to find an abundant of outlets to be informed.
I can also see Gabby in a future movie, presiding at the funeral of the left-wing institutions. "I have come not to praise left-wing academia, but too bury it, and also make sure the fucking thing is dead."

I didn't think you could go much further left than communist. AIM is a communist organization. Leonard Peltier is in prison and guess what ticket he ran for the presidency on this past election? The communist party ticket. It was supposed to be some type of ploy to get more attention to his case. Dr. David Yeagley has written many times on the communists and how they use American Indians. So I'd like to know what planet this guy is on if he's further left than AIM, lol.

"So I'd like to know what planet this guy is on if he's further left than AIM, lol."

He's hoping to get a piggy back from the Islamist movement for his sinister communist "ideology".
AIM thought him too much to the left.

Personally I think he's mildly retarded, which means he fits well into the whole academic environment.

Let's not hold our breath, shall we?

This pile of bat guano got tenure at CSU because of his beliefs not in spite of them. He's been writing books and articles for years that make Noam Chomsky look like a Bush supporter.

But he shouldn't be fired for his views...he should be fired, as you point out in your excellent post, for being an out and out fraud.

Should not be fired for his views... freedom of speech and all that. But should the public have to pay to support his views is a question i have. The CSU reagents have every right to rethink his tenure. Would it be difrent in a private univ?... Harvard is slapping Summers for being too intellectual but not pc enough, right?.

Pomalom has a good point comparing Churchill to Summers. This highlights the aspect of the Churchill affair that I find most disturbing. Summers' freedom of speech is not invoked because that term is only applied to speech that the academic establishment is sympathetic to. So when they apply it to Churchill, they are in effect endorsing his sick views.

The whole idea that Churchill can say whatever he wants, no matter how depraved, and not lose his job because of the First Amendment is absurd. What if a professor were to say something sexist or racist? Would his job be protected? I doubt it.
