Moonbats at Play with Dangerous Toys

The MaryHunter alertly flagged an alarming article in the Washington Post, warning that our European "allies" could be on the verge of lifting the arms embargo against the leftist dictatorship running China that was put in place after the ghastly Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989.

Obviously this will not have a beneficial effect on trans-Atlantic relationships that the Bush Administration has been going to such lengths lately to improve — not that this would bother France, which far from being an ally in any meaningful sense, is becoming openly hostile to the United States. Both Jacques Chirac and his bumbling socialist sidekick Gerhard Shroeder are on record as opposing the embargo.

It's no secret that Chirac fantasizes about creating a "counterweight" to American power, perhaps out of nostalgia for the collapsed Soviet Union. Even Chirac seems to understand that continental Europeans have degenerated into such pantywaist moonbats that the idea of them fighting Americans is absurd. But the Chinese are made of sturdier material. Given NATO technology, they could wreak havoc in Southeast Asia, destabilizing the region and threatening democracies.

Nuclear and advanced military technology in the hands of amoral and unfriendly regimes like Chirac's is a serious diplomatic challenge. Let's hope that Bush is not so devoted to improving relations that he doesn't exert whatever pressure he can to force them to behave responsibly.

Nothing new out of France. They always think of themselves first, their bank account second, and the world third.

General/President Charles de Gaulle had the chutzpah to pull France out of NATO and go it alone. And we still won the Cold War.
