Justice Served

Establishment media fans of leftist "civil rights" lawyer Lynne Stewart will be heartbroken to have learned that the material assistance she offered an Islamic terrorist is going to land this waddling obscenity in prison where she belongs, a jury having sensibly rejected her "I'm a lawyer, I can do what I want" defense.

Never one to miss an opportunity to poke civilization in the eye, Stewart violated an explicit written agreement by passing along a message from blind sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman to the Islamic Group that this bloodthirsty gang had his permission to call off a ceasefire and resume terrorist activities.

The Islamic Group has ties to al-Qaeda and Egyptian Islamic Jihad. It took responsibility for the massacre of 58 tourists and four Egyptians in Luxor, Egypt in 1997. The body of one victim was slit open and a leaflet calling for the release of Abdel-Rahman was stuffed inside the torso. That was before the ceasefire that Stewart helped him renounce.

According to the New York Times, Stewart conferred with globetrotting anti-American gadfly Ramsey Clark before passing along the sheik's okay to set the blood flowing again.

Abdel-Rahman had already begun his life sentence on terrorism charges when Stewart became his henchtroll. His pre-incarceration activities included involvement in the lethal 1993 World Trade Center bombing. He was also found guilty of coordinating a foiled plan to blow up numerous New York City landmarks, including the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels. Thanks to Stewart, imprisonment did not interfere with his role as "spiritual advisor" of his homicidal cult, illustrating why it is absolutely essential to apply the death penalty to high-level terrorists.

As for low-level terrorist Stewart, according to Fox News yesterday's conviction means she will probably face a sentence of about 20 years. Charges include conspiracy, providing material support to terrorists, defrauding the government, and making false statements. She is out on bail but can't leave New York before her July 15 sentencing.

Poor Lynne wiped away tears as the verdict was read. But they were tears of self-pity, not remorse for the innocent lives her assistant terrorism might have ended. "I know I committed no crime," she sniveled. "I know what I did was right."

Stewart's longstanding hatred of the American way of life has caused her to advocate violence directed against people she deems guilty of committing capitalism. Ironically, the trial took place just a few blocks from Ground Zero, where almost 3000 capitalists met a fate deemed appropriate by Stewart and other luminaries of the Left like Susan Sontag and Ward Churchill.

Lynne Stewart — moonbattery incarnate.
