Israeli Rabbi Orders Children to Stone Dog — If You Believe the BBC

The tale of Israel's religious right ordering children to stone a dog is certain to boil the blood:

Here's how the BBC reported it: A pooch made its way into a beth din in Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Mea Shearim. One of the judges, believing the dog to be the reincarnation of a now-deceased lawyer whom the court had cursed some two decades earlier, sentenced the dog to death by stoning, and ordered that the sentence be carried out by children. The dog escaped before the sentence could be carried out. Dog-lovers have filed a complaint against the court.

As with most stories that fit the establishment media's narrative a little too perfectly, this one was too good to check. Here's what actually happened, before the story was sloppily distorted by the BBC, Agence France Presse, and Time Magazine, among others:

A dog walked into a courtroom, and someone called the dogcatcher.

How are journalists supposed to sell advertising, much less promote social justice, with a boring story like that? You can see why truth is a burden they don't always choose to shoulder.
