Poetry in the Age of Obama
Posted by Dave Blount at May 10, 2011 3:03 PM
The Daily Caller recalls a poetry evening Laura Bush tried to hold as First Lady:
Back in 2003, First Lady Laura Bush held a poetry evening, and she invited several poets to reprise the work of Emily Dickinson, Langston Hughes and Walt Whitman. Although none of those poets had urged violence against a president, Bush canceled the event after left-of-center poets protested and threatened to disrupt the event.
No one is likely to cause disruptions now that the Bitter Half is in charge of such events.
First Lady Michelle Obama has scheduled a poetry evening for Wednesday, and she's invited several poets, including a successful Chicago poet and rapper, Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr., AKA "Common." However, Lynn is quite controversial, in part because his poetry includes threats to shoot police and at least one passage calling for the "burn[ing]" of then-President George W. Bush.
Here's an example of Common's "poetry" from the days of W:
A Letter to the Law
Dem boy wanna talk… [indistinguishable]
Whatcha gon do if ya got one gun?
I sing a song for the hero unsung
with faces on the mural of the revolution
No looking back cos' in back is what's done
Tell the preacher, God got more than one son
Tell the law, my Uzi weighs a ton
I walk like a warrior,
from them I won't run
On the streets, they try to beat us like a drum
In Cincinnati, another brother hung
A guinea won't see the sun
with his family stung
They want us to hold justice
but you handed me none
The same they did to Kobe and Michael Jackson
make them the main attraction
Turn around and attack them
Black gem in the rough
You're rugged enough
Use your mind and nine-power, get the government touch
Them boys chat-chat on how him pop gun
I got the black strap to make the cops run
They watching me, I'm watching them
Them dick boys got a lock of cock in them
My people on the block got a lot of pok* in them
and when we roll together
we be rocking them to sleep
No time for that, because there's things to be done
Stay true to what I do so the youth dream come
from project building
Seeing a fiend being hung
With that happening, why they messing with Saddam?
Burn a Bush cos' for peace he no push no button
Killing over oil and grease
no weapons of destruction
How can we follow a leader when this a corrupt one
The government's a g-unit and they might buck young black people
Black people In the urban area one
I hold up a peace sign, but I carry a gun.
Peace, ya'll.
This is the culture promoted by our government.
In the hands of our moonbat overlords, bad taste is a weapon to be used against civilization. The liberal elitists serving as cultural gatekeepers have brought us more than halfway from Shakespeare to cave-dwelling savages gibbering wordlessly in terror of the moon.
On tips from Oiao, wingmann, G. Fox, Byron, and Varla.
Comments
I prefer conservative Christian "rap", like this from the great poet, King David:
Psalm 109 (New International Version, ©2011)
6 Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy;
let an accuser stand at his right hand.
7 When he is tried, let him be found guilty,
and may his prayers condemn him.
8 May his days be few;
may another take his place of leadership.
9 May his children be fatherless
and his wife a widow.
10 May his children be wandering beggars;
may they be driven[a] from their ruined homes.
11 May a creditor seize all he has;
may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.
12 May no one extend kindness to him
or take pity on his fatherless children.
13 May his descendants be cut off,
their names blotted out from the next generation.
14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD;
may the sin of his mother never be blotted out.
15 May their sins always remain before the LORD,
that he may blot out their name from the earth.

We found out a long time ago that that Obummer and the "Bitter Half" had no class at all.
They have made a habit of abusing and insulting the traditions and morals of the average American.
This person, Lonnie, has had every opportunity in the world to better himself with the opportunities laid at his disposal. Instead of preaching this inane crap he calls poetry, he should be in the ghettos preaching to his own race about curtailing their aberrant social behavior.
Besides, he looks like Stepin Fetchit from the thirties' movies. Or maybe a black minstrel player from an early Disney cartoon.
Anyway, tell him to stop it; His bother in arms, Jesse Jackson, cornered the market on rhyming protest jiggles, decades ago.

Brain Fart Alert.....
"rhyming protest jiggles"
should be
"rhyming protest jingles"
I have spent all afternoon cleaning my bathroom with a strong bleach solution. Too many bleach fumes.

End it all, cut off all funding.
By the way, why's he wearing a tea cozy on his head?

@eb,
This, though, was SPOT On:
"bother in arms, Jesse Jackson"

"I hold up a peace sign but I carry a gun"
Nuff said.
And who's brutha be holdin' who back, fool?

Wilberforce asks, "Why's he wearing a tea cozy on his head?"
Don't you see, he's the guy on the "Yo Gabba Gabba" children's show in his fancy dress hat.

All right, y'all, I honestly do not mean this in a racist way, but we have ghetto trash in the white house right now. No class at all. I hope we rectify this situation next year, and I am looking forward to a President Allen West sometime in the future.

So this is what passes for culture in the Obama household? I guess his pastor friend is right, America has been damned if evil like this is held up as something to admire.

"The same they did to Kobe and Michael Jackson

Da white man made Jacko spike kids' soda cans?!
And Kobe, ain't he the pretty one that chose to go gangsta to measure up for his NBA homies?!
What da white man got to do wit him?
And how 'bout Tiger?
Tell how the white man wrote his fake biography and made him marry a white woman and act crazy with all that pooty. Write a pome about him.

There once was a man from Chicago
Who ran for President a while ago.
The dollar collapsed,
The recession relapsed,
And in '12 back home he will go.

Socialists are here.

Better get your gun.

The Constitution was written for all.
Democrats, in all of their gall,
Will give away our gold
And our land will be sold.
Do not obey. Stand tall.

Palin needs more time.
Gingrich is full of ego.
Where's Dick Armey now?
Posted by: Alan at May 10, 2011 6:25 PM
Okay one more:
The woman in the White House today
Certainly has a lot to say.
She says she likes reading
Her ego she's feeding
And you'll agree to do things her way.

It's disgusting to listen to people like Sean Hannity argue our case with these people. "No they shouldn't"; "Yes they should." How about this same Moochelle who wants to dictate what food parents will feed their children showcasing this slug at her White House? This is the music that her daughters listen to. NOT MINE!! And I don't want this slimeball, Moochelle, influencing the children of America with cop killer poets. And for those degenerates on the left who defend the invite because "He's a poet" and the 1st Amendment crap: Google those same freaks and you will not find them denouncing the 'poets' who refused to read at the Laura Bush poetry fest. Disgusting!

I support Michelle's poetry effort.
Better that she publicly wallows in the fact that she is completely coarse and ugly, rather than trying to hide it.
I just hope there's good video of Michelle beaming at Common as he spews out his obscenities.
Then she can jiggle and dance her way out of the WH in 2012 with her 40-person entourage, leaving the adults to once again fumigate the Lincoln bedroom.

Michelle, ma belle, these are words that don't go together well,
ma belle, strangely dressed and "proud" of her country, at last,
back to Chicago you go when Thirteen arrives, at last, oh, at last,
so you sully the House, well, not for long, oh, Michelle, ma belle,
see you on the Southside with your hubby at a Pale Hose game,
ah, Michelle!
I know, not exactly Paul McCartney, but then he didn't have Mooch-elle
to work with, did he?
Posted by: jc14 at May 10, 2011 7:15 PM
Lonnie aka "Common" is black.
But his poetic skills do lack.
Dimwitted and crass,
indulgent and low class,
Just like Michelle and Barack!

eb - I like 'jiggles'
Alan & Spurwing - you guys show real talent. Good stuff.
I'd make up a sonnet.
But then you'd throw up on it.

Once again the Obamas display their comtempt for the office of president. Once again they foul the White House because they can.

This Common Dirtbag Lonnie whatever had the nerve to actually claim he was referring to the Burning Bush in the bible. The entire line containing the Burn the Bush reference also referred to oil and WMD's - Only the incurably stupid like Lao would buy the burning bush in the bible argument.
The First Klingon can sure pick em.
Posted by: Winston Smith at May 11, 2011 4:38 AM
Whitman, Dickinson and Hughes would roll over in their graves if they ever read this Common douchebag's poetry.
