Feds Started Texas Wildfire

Posted by Dave Blount at May 16, 2011 1:20 PM

Not only has the Obama Regime refused to declare a major disaster for the devastating wildfires eating up Texas, while meanwhile giving assistance to Mexico to fight smaller ones — it even started one of the fires:

Tom Edwards, the county attorney in rural Motley County east of Lubbock, said on Friday that the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives was responsible on Tuesday for sparking a fire that consumed 150 acres.
"You can quote me on it: That bunch has a real corner on stupid," Edwards told Reuters.
Tom Crowley, a spokesman with the federal agency, said bureau officials were assisting four local bomb squads — at their request — to destroy some explosives. Firefighters were on hand, he said. The wind picked up, but the explosives were too dangerous to move, so the officials went ahead and destroyed the explosives.
"Unfortunately, a fragment ignited some grass," Crowley said.

That would be the same ATF that under Obama's rule has helped smuggle 1,700 guns into Mexico, for use by foreign criminal elements that are consolidating control of the Southwest. They've already been used to kill a Border Patrol agent.

Edwards is aghast at the cretinism of our Beltway overlords:

"We had high winds, we're under a burn ban because of extensive prairie fires, brush fires, and in they rolled with the idea of blowing up things."

Normally the government breaks your leg, then hands you an overpriced crutch that you have to pay for. But if you're Texas (or Arizona or South Carolina or any other state where voters have enough character not to vote for Obama), the overpriced crutch that you paid for goes to a neighboring state that is colonizing your territory with the government's help.

On a tip from BURNING HOT. Hat tip: Gateway Pundit.

If they want to do the country a favor, next time sit on the explosives before they push the plunger.

ATF+ Alcoholic Targets With Firearms

It's twenty years past time to abolish the ATF and retire its agents. Start over with another agency, new Constitution-obeying agents if you want to background-check gun purchasers. What do they have to do, burn down the Capitol building? A church with 81 men, women and children surely wasn't enough.

That could be zero's new campaign slogan. "We've got the corner on stupid!"
Yeah, yeah, I know. Racist.....whatever.

Smokie Bears laying awake all night over obamas stupid ideas on forest managment

The real problem of course is that only 150 acres burned from this.

"Unfortunately, a fragment ignited some grass," Crowley said. Well, as long as it was only a fragment.

Sounds vaguely similar to what was supposed to be a controlled burn at Bandelier National Monument near Los Alamos, NM, back in 2000. The weather reports told the BLM moron at the park that the winds were changing rapidly and that conditions were ripe for a disaster, but he didn't care and started the burn anyway. Within minutes the fire was out of control.

It took firefighters a month to get it under control, and by the end it had burned nearly 50,000 acres, put one of the nation's leading nuclear laboratories in jeopardy, and burned hundreds of homes including those of a number of friends of mine. One report had the fire line a mere 300 yards from a building at S Site, which is where they perform small-scale tests of high explosives. No one was killed or even injured, as I recall, but I think the trailers of FEMA-ville are still there to this day.

Look up Cerro Grande Fire. The BLM droid didn't even get a slap on the wrist.

Got some of the details wrong, mainly due to time and no recent visits to my old homestead. It apparently took a few days to get out of control, and FEMAville was removed 5 years ago. At any rate, this sort of thing sadly isn't unheard of when dealing with bureaucratic morons.
