Head of National Black Chamber of Commerce Harry Alford Learns an Expensive Lesson

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:51 AM

It's not about white versus black, despite the endless playing of the race card by the Manchurian Moonbat's media enablers. It's about freedom versus tyranny. Harry Alford, president and CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, has figured it out. Here he is on the Laura Ingraham Show:

A highlight:

Alford: "[Obama] is anti-business and … [Obamunism] is starting to look Marxist to me."
Ingraham: "Marxist? You voted for him."
Alford: "The worst mistake I ever made in my life."
Ingraham: "Why did you vote for him?"
Alford: "Because he was black, and that is a lesson that I will take to my grave."

Let's hope he first takes it to the voting booth — and the rest of the country does too.

Bonus video: Here's Alford dressing down the insufferable Babs Boxer.

McDonald's Job Quest Mayhem

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:14 AM

Great news — the Obama economy is finally generating jobs:

McDonald's nationwide "hiring day" on April 19 landed about 1 million applications and yielded 62,000 new employees for both part- and full-time positions.

That is, applicants had a 6.2% chance of landing a job. With the Regime doing everything possible to drive up unemployment so as to increase government dependence, these odds were good enough to draw massive crowds. Here's what the desperate scramble for a chance to flip burgers looked like in Cleveland (the action is about a minute in):

Welcome to Obamaland.

Jimmy Carter Denounces America From North Korea

Posted by Dave Blount at 1:58 PM

What will become of Barack Hussein Obama if America pulls out of its tailspin and ejects him from office in 2012? Given his track record of putting us down in other countries, he will probably step into the shoes Jimmy Carter has been warming up for him. In the latest of his many displays of moonbattery at its most vile, Carter has chosen the communist concentration camp known as North Korea as a fit place to accuse the USA of human rights violations:

Via Greg Hengler, why would an American cap a three-day visit to Kim Jong-Il's national gulag by accusing the U.S. of human rights violations? Well, much like Superman, Carter's more a "citizen of the world" now than part of the country he used to lead. In fact, he wasn't there on behalf of the State Department but as part of a delegation from "The Elders," an elite team of ex-statesmen who travel the world sharing the sort of wisdom that's made "Jimmy Carter" synonymous with successful foreign policy ideas here at home.

In case you missed out on the 1970s, that last part was sarcasm.

One reason North Korea starves its own people is that so long as anyone listens to useful idiots like Carter, the never-ending need of the populations of enemy nations is a knife held to our throat. Another reason is that liberal ideology taken to its logical conclusion isn't much good for putting food on the table.

What People Actually Think of the Goracle Revealed

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:29 AM

According to the establishment media, Al Gore is a heroic personage who strives valiantly to save the planet from climatic peril. His Nobel Peace Prize shines lustrously. But what do real people think of him? For an idea of public opinion unfiltered by progressive authorities, check out the Apple App Store's Facebook post on his new iBook Our Choice:

On and on they go, bashing the mighty Goracle. It seems that his failed attempt to subvert our democratic system by bullying his way into the White House has not endeared him to many people outside the liberal elite bubble; nor has his repressive and extravagantly expensive global warming hoax. But a guy with his carbon footprint can afford not to worry about it.

Cocaine-Snorting NYC Ex-Cop Keeps Cushy Public Sector Pension Despite Being Exposed as Fraud

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:07 AM

As our quasi-socialist economic system collapses under the weight of the hypertrophied government our Constitution was designed to protect us from, the last thing to go under may be lavish public sector benefits. This story gives an idea how insanely generous the authorities doling them out are with our money:

[James] Seiferheld, an 11-year NYPD veteran, put in for retirement in December 2003, citing a career-ending, on-duty shoulder injury suffered when he fell while walking on ice and snow.
Within a month of Seiferheld being granted his pension in May 2004, the city began investigating the ex-cop after getting a tip that he was doing daily construction work.
His monthly $4,363.87 pension was suspended in July 2007, when he was ordered back to work - an order complicated when Seiferheld tested positive for cocaine in a hair-sample test. The Court of Appeals judges said a lower appellate court correctly ruled that benefits can be terminated only by the trustees of the Police Pension Fund, who had failed to do so.

So Seiferheld keeps his cushy pension, and it's a good thing too — cocaine habits are hard to finance on a construction worker's income.

Bankrupt Detroit Wastes $1,112.50 Apiece on Library Trash Cans

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:04 AM

What could be more absurd than the bankrupt socialist government of Detroit blowing $1,092 apiece on library chairs? How about $1,112.50 apiece on library trash receptacles:

The $2.3 million remodel of the South Wing of the Main Library opened to the public Tuesday, and documents obtained this week by The Detroit News show it includes eight stainless-steel trash cans that cost taxpayers about $8,900.

Meanwhile, Detroit libraries are facing an $11 million shortfall. In addition to laying off workers, bureauweenies may close 18 of 23 neighborhood branches. But at least the South Wing branch has stylish wastebaskets for derelicts there to view porn to barf their Thunderbird into.

Needless to say, any private company run this incompetently would quickly go out of business (unless it had corrupt friends in Washington to hand it a bailout). But public entities are run by bureaucrumbs, who consider "profit" a dirty word. The more inept they are, the more money goes into the trash, the more they can proclaim a need for still more extravagant coercive funding.

What Detroit libraries soon end up looking like.

Lawyer Sues Strip Club for Letting Him Spend His Money There

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:00 AM

Lawyer Mark Gold makes a cushy living helping the irresponsible evade responsibility by defending drunk drivers. When he found he had blown $18,930 in one night bingeing at a strip club, rather than pay his bill he fell back on his jobs skills:

Now the 56-year-old attorney is taking the Gold Rush [bwahaha!] club to court, saying he was so drunk staff should have stopped serving him.
The lawsuit, filed at Miami-Dade County Court, makes no mention of how the enormous bill was racked up - or how many lap dances he may have bought.
Instead, he claims staff plied him with drinks so they could charge 'excessive amounts of money to his credit card.'

According to the lawsuit,

'Defendant knew, or should have known, of plaintiff's intoxicated state, having caused it.'

The defendant will have a hard time denying that it sold Gold drinks and hoped he would keep throwing his money around like a dissolute degenerate. After all, that's what strip clubs are there for.

Not only does Gold not want to pay up for his big night on the town, he wants the club to pay him "expenses."

If he wins his absurd case, it will at least clean up strip clubs. We'll see signs in front of them reading, No Lawyers Allowed.

Lawyer Mark Gold digs for new lows.

Man Arrested for Reading Bible

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:40 AM

Since this didn't happen in Saudi Arabia or Iran, it could only have been in moonbattery-ravaged California — a man was actually hauled off in handcuffs for reading a Bible aloud:

When Mark Mackey, a member of the local Calvary Chapel, showed up to the DMV office in Hemet, CA on February 2, he had a goal: read the Bible and introduce those waiting in line to the "gospel of Jesus Christ." And for about 15 minutes he was successful. That is until a California Highway Patrolman took the Bible from his hands, arrested him, and told him he was guilty of preaching to a "captive audience."

With crimes this serious, it's important to incarcerate accomplices too:

According to reports, Mackey wasn't the only one arrested. Pastor Brett Coronado and Edmond Flores, Jr., who were accompanying him, were also taken into custody.

They were charged with "impeding an open business," despite being at least 50 feet away from the entrance. Observes Jennifer Monk of Advocates for Faith and Freedom, which is representing the alleged criminals in a lawsuit,

"The purpose of the arrests appears to have been to censor them."

Too bad they weren't members of a union. That would have exempted them from Penal Code Section 602.1(b), under which they were charged. I'm guessing being Muslim instead of Christian would have exempted them too.

Not to worry; Lt. Michael Soubirous of the California Highway Patrol reassures the public that "We don't inhibit people's right to free speech — we regulate it."

Although the DA isn't pushing criminal charges, Advocates for Faith and Freedom are going through with the lawsuit anyway, "to preserve the liberty to read the Bible aloud on public property without fear of criminal prosecution," according to General Counsel Robert Tyler.

Someone's got to draw a line somewhere.

Busted for reading the Bible.

Superman Renounces American Citizenship

Posted by Dave Blount at 1:07 PM

The moonbatterization of comic book icons continues (see here and here and here and here). Superman — the patriotic superhero who once upheld "truth, justice, and the American way" — is renouncing his American citizenship:

After fictional patriots with deep roots in our culture have all been subverted into squishy liberal globalists by the moonbats, look for them to go after real people. It's only a matter of time before historians discover that Patrick Henry actually said, "Give me liberty, or better still, give me socialized healthcare," and that the George Washington quote "Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth" was cut off before he could add, "That's why we have to ban them."

Via iOwnTheWorld:

The real question isn't why the Regime would release a suspicious-looking birth certificate after sitting on it for years, but why it's being hyped into such an issue at this point in the game. Obama was elected the first time despite people knowing that he was a close associate of unrepentant communist terrorist Bill Ayers and racist anti-American hatemonger Jeremiah Wright. He had already stated for the record that he intended to bankrupt the coal industry, cause energy prices to skyrocket, and radically lower our standard of living. Yet having been reduced to zombies by generations of politically correct brainwashing, people were suicidally depraved enough to vote for him anyway.

Next time he will have had four years to spread around our money, our children's money, and our grandchildren's money by the hundreds of $billions to ensure his reelection. No fishy birth certificate is going to slow down his continued "fundamental transformation" of America — although it might help his media enablers to characterize the resistance as conspiracy kooks.

Calling Pets "Pets" Is a Thought Crime

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:33 AM

It's time for a new edition of the Newspeak dictionary. According to the pointy-headed circus clowns who pass down surrealist moral judgments from atop their ivory towers, our current vocabulary oppresses animals:

Animal lovers should stop calling their furry or feathered friends "pets" because the term is insulting, leading academics claim.
Domestic dogs, cats, hamsters or budgerigars should be rebranded as "companion animals" while owners should be known as "human carers", they insist.

Other forbidden terms include "critters" and "beasts." Pet owners are not to be referred to as "owners," because this "harks back to a previous age" when animals were considered to be animals.

The term "wildlife" is not to be used because "For most, 'wildness' is synonymous with uncivilized, unrestrained, barbarous existence." In actuality, academics have discovered that tigers and hyenas sit around tea tables in the jungle, sipping Earl Grey with their pinkies raised.

Certain idiomatic expressions also have to go:

Phrases such as "sly as a fox, "eat like a pig" or "drunk as a skunk" are all unfair to animals, they claim.

With all this verbal abuse hurled at their sensitive feelings, you can see why Obama's Regulatory Czar Cass Sunstein wants animals to be provided with lawyers so they can sue us.

Evidence that animals are actually civilized.

Obama Regime Uses Tiny Lizard as Pretext to Strangle Texas Oil Industry

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:13 AM

Obama et al. have used the spill by his crony capitalist bankrollers at BP as a pretext to shut down oil drilling in the gulf, and the exhaust fumes from an icebreaker to choke off Alaska, but how to justify suppressing land drilling in the desert wastes of West Texas? Here's how:

A three-inch lizard that thrives in desert conditions could shut down oil and gas operations in portions of Southeast New Mexico and in West Texas, including the state's top two oil producing counties.
Called the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard, it is being considered for inclusion on the federal Endangered Species listing by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. …
"We are very concerned about the Fish and Wildlife Service listing," said Ben Shepperd, president of the [Permian Basin Petroleum Association], noting the service also has proposed listing the Lesser Prairie Chicken next year. "The wolf at the door is the lizard; we're concerned listing it would shut down drilling activity for a minimum of two years and as many as five years while the service determines what habitat is needed for the lizard. That means no drilling, no seismic surveys, no roads built, no electric lines."

As an added bonus, pretending that lizards are "endangered" would also cripple local agriculture:

Not only would the move impact oil and gas operations but agriculture, Shepperd noted, shutting down agricultural activities like grazing and farming — "anything that disturbs the habitat."

As our liberal rulers continue to drive gas and food prices toward the stratosphere, at least we can take solace that lizards will supposedly benefit.

One lizard is worth any number of humans.

Air America Airhead Gets Arrested While Disrupting Allen West Appearance

Posted by Dave Blount at 2:18 PM

If no one stops him, Obama will eventually do to the information business what he's done to the healthcare and automotive industries. In the meantime, the moonbats that infested the defunct Air America find themselves with too much time on their hands, as the free market will not support their depraved ravings. Nicole Sandler has been keeping herself busy by behaving like a drunken lout, going so far as to get herself arrested while disrupting an appearance by esteemed countermoonbat Allen West:

Local police arrested a woman who appears to be former liberal radio network Air America host Nicole Sandler while she was disrupting Rep. Allen West's Tuesday town hall event in Fort Lauderdale and harassing the Congressman's wife. According to video obtained by Florida blogger Javier Manjarres, known better online as The Shark Tank, police charged Sandler, who revealed her name on camera, with trespassing after they removed her from the event and she "continued her tirade and used an expletive to address a police officer."
With Air America now defunct, Sandler hosts a self-described "progressive talk radio" show at
In video he shot of the town hall, several hecklers Manjarres says were "planted" shouted over West as he began speaking at the event.

This pathetic spectacle is a day-late, dollar-short, me-too attempt to copy the town hall uprisings against ObamaCare. There is a world of difference between the spontaneous outrage of a country forced to watch its liberties and standard of living methodically destroyed by power-drunk socialist bureaucrats, and the obnoxious behavior of professional leftists.

Moonbats Demand Atheist Chaplains

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:55 AM

Most of us can only go so far astray, before the reaction of others pulls us back on course. But since many progressives spend their lives inside soundproof bubbles of balderdash, they remain oblivious to the guffaws of normal people as they climb out ever further on the creaking limb of liberal absurdity. Their latest joke at their own expense is demanding military chaplains for atheists:

Strange as it sounds, groups representing atheists and secular humanists are pushing for the appointment of one of their own to the chaplaincy, hoping to give voice to what they say is a large — and largely underground — population of nonbelievers in the military.
Joining the chaplain corps is part of a broader campaign by atheists to win official acceptance in the military. Such recognition would make it easier for them to raise money and meet on military bases. It would help ensure that chaplains, religious or atheist, would distribute their literature, advertise their events and advocate for them with commanders.

That is, they want chaplains to spread propaganda to the effect that there is no God and reality just popped into existence by no particular agency for no particular reason, rendering moral values meaningless.

The purpose of military chaplains is to uphold morale. The purpose of wasting taxpayer money on nihilistic nonsense is for moonbats to explain. But then, according to them there's no such thing as purpose. All that exists are the grubby desires of two-legged animals.

Arrested for Singing "Kung Fu Fighting" Within Earshot of Chinese

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:52 AM

Once again Britain's descent into moonbattery has pushed self-parody to a new extreme of absurdity:

A pub singer was arrested for alleged "racism" after belting out the chart hit Kung Fu Fighting as two Chinese people walked past.
One of them complained to cops, who later nicked stunned Simon Ledger - in a Chinese restaurant.
Simon, 34, often performs the song in Sandown, Isle of Wight. He said: "I hadn't even seen these two."

Simon needs to remember that intention doesn't matter with crimes of political correctness. Unless you're white, heterosexual, and non-Muslim, then whoever you claim hurt your feelings is guilty, even if he did it in his sleep.

Simon's act regularly features the song, which he had already begun before the offended person of Chinese origin (the word "Chinaman" is now forbidden) happened onto the scene. None of that matters either. He was arrested and may end up with a criminal record.

Laws against politically incorrect "harassment" are working well, considering that their only conceivable purpose is to create a climate in which anyone who isn't a member of a privileged special interest group is terrified to say or do anything.

Caution: owning this is the vicinity of Chinese people could be a thought crime.

Mugabe Extends Race-Based Looting Spree to Foreign Companies

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:54 AM

Sometimes it's tempting to skip ahead in a book to see how things will turn out. This can be done with Obamunism, because the same political phenomenon is farther along in other countries. For example, by turning to Zimbabwe, we can see what happens after the government has bled dry or seized every business within its borders — it goes after foreign companies:

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is standing firm with plans to take over foreign-owned companies who refuse to transfer majority shareholding to local black Zimbabweans.
The president said foreign mining companies had until May 9 to submit plans for a share transfer. Under the Indigenization and Economic Empowerment Act which became law in March 2010, foreign-owned firms must achieve at least 51% black ownership within five years.

Seizing farms for the sake of black ownership put an abrupt end to agriculture in Zimbabwe. Mining is the next industry to be terminated in the name of moonbattery.

When it was called Rhodesia, Zimbabwe was known as the Breadbasket of Africa. But then the grownups turned over power to leftists. Now the currency is worthless and the population is starving.

Likewise, people will soon say with sad shakes of the head that America was once known as the Land of Liberty.

Obama Administration to Top Pharmaceutical Exec Howard Solomon: You're Fired

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:45 AM

Obama may be a communist by upbringing and inclination, but at this point his "fundamental transformation of America" more closely resembles fascism. Under communism, the government directly owns everything, and everyone works for it, essentially as a slave. In subtle contrast, fascism allows for ostensibly private concerns that in reality are run by the government. For example, if a fascist government wanted to fire the CEO of General Motors, it could do so, even before it was nationalized and became Government Motors. A fascist government could also fire CEOs in the pharmaceutical industry:

The Department of Health and Human Services this month notified Howard Solomon of Forest Laboratories Inc. that it intends to exclude him from doing business with the federal government. This, in turn, could prevent Forest from selling its drugs to Medicare, Medicaid and the Veterans Administration. If the government implements its ban, Forest would have to dump Mr. Solomon, now 83 years old, in order to protect its corporate revenue. No drug company, large or small, can afford to lose out on sales to the federal government, a major customer.

This is another reason that seizing control of the healthcare industry was so critical to Democrats. All of the reasons boil down to one: power.

The "action against the CEO of Forest Labs is a game changer," said Richard Westling, a corporate defense attorney in Nashville who has represented executives in different industries against the government.
According to Mr. Westling, "It would be a mistake to see this as solely a health-care industry issue. The use of sanctions such as exclusion and debarment to punish individuals where the government is unable to prove a direct legal or regulatory violation could have wide-ranging impact."

It would do this by making it explicit that top executives at supposedly private companies hold their jobs or lose them at the whim of faceless, unelected bureaucrats.

Solomon was not even accused of misconduct; apparently our rulers picked him almost at random as a test case to see what they can get away with — and to make an example to keep other CEOs in line. The pretext was a misdemeanor case against the company over a minor regulatory violation involving marketing that had already been settled.

For once we're seeing some backbone in the corporate world:

Forest is sticking by its chief. "No one has ever alleged that Mr. Solomon did anything wrong, and excluding him [from the industry] is unjustified," said general counsel Herschel Weinstein. "It would also set an extremely troubling precedent that would create uncertainty throughout the industry and discourage regulatory settlements."

The company is right to take a stand.

Lawyers not involved in the Forest case said the attempt to punish an executive who isn't accused of misconduct could tie up the industry's day-to-day work in legal knots.
"This 'gotcha' approach to enforcement runs the risk of creating a climate within organizations that is inconsistent with the spirit of innovation that is critical to the industry," said Allen Waxman of Kaye Scholer LLP in New York, who was formerly an in-house counsel at a drug maker.

Innovation is one of the first things to dry up and die when a country lets itself slip into tyranny.

Maybe our liberal overlords just don't like Solomon's resume:

Mr. Solomon became chief executive in 1977 and built Forest from a maker of vitamin tablets into a global company with more than $4 billion in annual sales.

In the Age of Obama, this makes Solomon an Enemy of the People.

Jail Time for Buying Fake Designer Merchandise

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:35 AM

There are so few things left that aren't against the law in New York City that bureauweenies are resorting to jail time for people who buy fake designer merchandise from street vendors:

"We don't want to be known as the place to come to get counterfeit goods," said Councilwoman Margaret Chin, whose Chinatown district is ground zero for counterfeiters.
Under Chin's bill, which is being introduced Thursday, shoppers caught buying any counterfeit product could be jailed or slapped with a fine of $1,000 … Several of Chin's colleagues have expressed support for the bill, and she already has five co-sponsors.

The sellers belong in jail, but the buyers? Imagine finding yourself locked up on Riker's Island between a murderer and an armed robber when all you did was buy your wife a handbag that turned out to have a phony label.

But respect for the law is a small price to pay for achieving the statist dream of a world in which everyone is a criminal and can be treated accordingly.

Van Jones Pushes to Install Mother Earth as Global Communist Dictator

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:50 AM

Shine a light on a cockroach and it scuttles for cover. Switch the light off and out it creeps again, to spread its nasty diseases throughout your kitchen. Likewise Van Jones — the self-avowed communist and black nationalist whom Comrade Obama recruited as a Czar — was forced to step down after Glenn Beck let everyone know that Jones is also a 9/11 Truther. But he didn't go far; now he's back out on the counter, wiggling his antennae repulsively:

Van Jones, the Obama administration's controversial former "green jobs czar," has found a new calling: helping to push for a new, global architecture of environmental law that would give Mother Nature the same rights status as humans.
The new movement is almost certain to be showcased at a U.N.-sponsored global summit on "sustainable development" to take place in Rio de Janeiro in May 2012, when similar issues of "global environmental governance" are a major focus of attention.

"Global environmental governance" is the greenwashed version of global communist tyranny. Beneath a thin veneer of sanctimonious green silliness festers an agenda essentially identical to that advanced by some of the most evil characters in human history.

Jones' current outfit, the San Francisco-based Pachamama Alliance, is backing the bid by socialist thug Evo Morales of Bolivia to impose his country's insane anti-development laws on the entire planet through the UN.

Jones has continued to advocate those ideas since leaving the administration, as a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a think tank closely associated with financier George Soros, and at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson Center for International Affairs.

How apt; students of history know Woodrow Wilson as the world's first fascist dictator.

In terms of pure evil, the $60 billion Jones stole from taxpayers to create exactly zero "green jobs" pales in comparison with his current activities.

The movement that Jones has joined shares its goals with some of the more radical governments represented at the United Nations, notably Ecuador and Bolivia, both nations with substantial territories in the Amazon Basin, and both with close ties to the socialist government of Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez.
Bolivia last week sponsored an "interactive dialogue" on "Harmony With Nature" at the United Nations that included promotion of the same notion of a Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Mother Nature. By no coincidence, the U.N. debate was scheduled immediately prior to this year's April 22 Earth Day celebrations—renamed "Mother Earth Day," at the United Nations.

Prior to "Earth Day," it was known as communist dictator Vladimir Lenin's birthday.

This year, the global celebrations also start an unofficial countdown to the U.N.-sponsored global summit in Rio de Janeiro next year.
The summit, known in U.N. shorthand as Rio + 20, is intended as a 20th anniversary successor to the famous Earth Summit of 1992, which gave enormous stimulus and legitimacy to the global environmental movement. This time, its aim is to produce new efforts at "global environmental governance" …

In case anyone doubts that our global green government will be communist:

Evo Morales has frequently said that "the central enemy of Mother Earth is capitalism."

The objective of Van Jones, Evo Morales, the United Nations, and their friends in the White House is to use environmentalism to destroy the world economy just as Obama is currently using it to destroy the American energy sector. What limited means of production that are allowed will be tightly controlled by an oligarchy of collectivist bureaucrats in the name of the polar bears and spotted owls. We will be reduced to abject poverty, with no conceivable means of working our way out of it.

Earth will be remade as hell. Liberals will have achieved the infernal dystopia they so richly deserve. But according to their plans, they will continue living high on the hog as the ruling class. It's the rest of us who will starve in hovels lest we emit too much harmless CO2.

A lifestyle imposed on Bolivia today, on all of us tomorrow.

While Comrade Obama lays the groundwork for Soviet-style show trials to blame the people who provide us with gasoline for the cost of their product, here's an example of why prices won't be coming down so long as liberals have their "boot on the neck" of the energy sector:

Shell Oil Company has announced it must scrap efforts to drill for oil this summer in the Arctic Ocean off the northern coast of Alaska. The decision comes following a ruling by the EPA's Environmental Appeals Board to withhold critical air permits. …
Shell has spent five years and nearly $4 billion dollars on plans to explore for oil in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. The leases alone cost $2.2 billion. Shell Vice President Pete Slaiby […is] especially frustrated over the appeal board's suggestion that the Arctic drill would somehow be hazardous for the people who live in the area. …
The closest village to where Shell proposed to drill is Kaktovik, Alaska. It is one of the most remote places in the United States. According to the latest census, the population is 245… The village, which is 1 square mile, sits right along the shores of the Beaufort Sea, 70 miles away from the proposed off-shore drill site.
The EPA's appeals board ruled that Shell had not taken into consideration emissions from an ice-breaking vessel when calculating overall greenhouse gas emissions from the project.

The arrogant ecototalitarians at the EPA are well past even pretending to be reasonable. Their open intention is to destroy the domestic energy sector, in keeping with Barack Hussein Obama's campaign promise to make energy prices "skyrocket."

At stake is an estimated 27 billion barrels of oil. That's how much the U. S. Geological Survey believes is in the U.S. portion of the Arctic Ocean. For perspective, that represents two and a half times more oil than has flowed down the Trans Alaska pipeline throughout its 30-year history. That pipeline is getting dangerously low on oil. At 660,000 barrels a day, it's carrying only one-third its capacity.
Production on the North Slope of Alaska is declining at a rate of about 7 percent a year. If the volume gets much lower, pipeline officials say they will have to shut it down.

The EPA is using fumes from an icebreaker at the far end of nowhere as an excuse to shut down the Alaska pipeline. Patriots have to ask themselves: who is likely to inflict more damage on this country, al Qaeda or the EPA?

The appeals board, like all things federal under Obama, is a farce:

The Environmental Appeals Board has four members: Edward Reich, Charles Sheehan, Kathie Stein and Anna Wolgast. All are registered Democrats and Kathie Stein was an activist attorney for the Environmental Defense Fund.

That is, the board is a rubber stamp for Obama's anti-energy, ultra-left agenda.

In a depraved act of sabotage, liberals elected a communist punk who insolently told us up front that he would destroy our standard of living. They deserve the economic disaster that's beginning to unfold. The rest of us don't.

Maria Talks About Degeneracy

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:29 AM

Even in tough economic times, Taxachusetts manages to suck in mountains of money. An example of what David Axelrot-packaged Obama prototype Governor Coupe DeVal Patrick has been spending the loot on is a website entitled Maria Talks, devoted to facilitating sexual promiscuity among teens and tweens.

One section eggs on readers to become "GLBTQ":

When people say GLBTQ, they're usually talking about people who identify themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and everything in-between. Since a lot of people identify themselves in lots of different ways, GLBTQ can describe anyone who doesn't identify as "straight" or heterosexual. …
Being attracted to people of the same sex as you can be confusing. But being attracted to both guys and girls can be even more confusing! People think they have to pick one or the other, but the truth is there are tons of normal people out there who are into, and have relationships with both guys and girls. Some people call this bisexuality (being attracted to both guys and girls), while others choose to not put a label on their feelings… either way is cool, as long as it feels right for you. …
Like being tall or short, blond or brunette, being GLBTQ is just another part of who you are. Ignoring your feelings just keeps you from discovering yourself.

We've gone from hippies bleating, "If it feels good, do it," to the government advising adolescents, "If you think it might feel good, try it — especially if it's perverted."

I hope kids enjoy government sites like this. Given the debt situation, they'll spend the rest of their lives paying for them.

Apple Tracks Our Every Move — Blacks, Hispanics Suffer Most

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:22 AM

It's bad enough that Apple violates our privacy by tracking our movements with its iPhone. But what's far worse is that this is racist:

Friday on MSNBC's daytime programming, host Thomas Roberts explained that in the wake of revelations the iPhone tracks your movements with its operating software, minorities, specifically blacks and Latinos are most vulnerable, since they use their cell phones more than whites according to a Nielsen study.
"Alright, so one day after learning of a hidden iPhone feature that tracks your every single move, there's new concern that tracking technology purchased by police can lead to racial profiling," Roberts said. "You are looking at what's called the 'Universal Forensic Extraction Device.' It can copy the entire content of a cell phone including text messages, contacts, GPS data and do it in just minutes. Michigan State Police purchased this device, though we don't know how exactly they're using it but civil liberties groups worry that the device endangers the privacy rights of blacks and Latinos."

The "profiling" lies in the fact that blacks and Latinos are much more likely to commit crimes. By liberal reasoning, any crime prevention measure is racist that doesn't specifically target white criminals.

Blissfully unaware, the moonbat media wades ever deeper into the tar pits of self-parody. If MSNBC could still put up a headline in the aftermath of the earth getting smashed to bits by a giant asteroid, it would read: "World Destroyed: Blacks, Latinos, Muslims, Homosexuals, Transvestites Suffer Most."

More racist oppression.

Guardian Moonbat Calls for Violence to Close Supermarket

Posted by Dave Blount at 12:19 PM

One of the mysteries of moonbattery is why liberals hate it when people open grocery stores. Don't they have to eat too? The Guardian's Sam Allen even calls for violence — while of course not condoning violence.

Thousands have been campaigning for more than a year to stop Tesco opening in Stokes Croft, Bristol. … We have painstakingly played it by the rules, coming up with a multitude of creative ways to make it clear how unwanted this development is and that it goes against everything our community stands for. We have fought Tesco through the planning system, making an overwhelmingly strong case, backed by lawyers. Our objections clearly outlined how opening this Tesco store would pose a threat to public safety. But at a packed planning committee meeting it became astonishingly clear that the council were too fearful of the financial implications to refuse Tesco permission to go ahead. Our community is well known for having people who, if they are silenced, will act in a way that will ensure they will be heard.

Here's what she means:

The rioting in Stokes Croft [Thursday] night is the result of a community being entirely ignored — there are people who are more than willing to break the law to remain true to what they believe.

The "community being entirely ignored" means leftist community organizer types of the Barack Hussein Obama stripe not getting their way. When this happens, there is a price to pay:

Is Tesco in a position to ignore the rising costs of policing their new store when [Thursday] night's events involved the cost of three regional police forces and subsequent repair of damage? … Feeling threatened in my own community is upsetting but the truth is people feel completely disempowered, and for some resorting to [Thursday] night's actions seems the only way people will listen.

Listen in this context means obey.

Now for the requisite phony disclaimer,

I will never condone violence and smashing up Tesco is not my approach but I am clear that the damage caused to Tesco's property [Thursday] night is relatively insignificant compared to the damage Tesco has been able to inflict on this community.

Whatever damage Tesco inflicts on the "community" by selling it food is left to the reader's imagination — and you'll need a good one.

Here's the demand that must be met to avoid further mayhem:

Bristol City council has a clear choice now: continue to let Tesco trade and risk [Thursday] night becoming a regular occurrence or support the community it is supposed to represent and tell Tesco to leave.

Modern liberals can make a hard-working business owner long for the days when all you had to do to avoid shattered windows was pay off the mafia.

Maternity Store Offers Discount to Pervert Parents

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:32 AM

Most social engineering is imposed coercively through government. But so long as a remnant of the free market still exists, there's no reason moonbats can't use it to promote their agenda:

It pays to be a lesbian mom in Park Slope - at least at Boing Boing, a maternity and breastfeeding store that offers a special discount exclusively for same-sex moms.
These moms get an additional 10% off their total purchase at the store, located on the corner of 6th Ave. and Union St., Brooklyn-based blog Brokelyn reported… The store's owner, Karen Paperno, told the News she's been offering the discount for about three months.

Like many posturing moonbat conformists, Ms. Paperno wants to get credit for being a bold revolutionary as a reward for toeing the ideological line of the progressive establishment in one of the most uniformly liberal places in the country.

"It's not politically correct," Paperno acknowledges with a laugh, "but neither am I. Never have been, never will be. This is my store, and I can choose to do this discount for the people who need it most."

What a rebel.

Fish Rescued From Global Warming by Llamas and British Taxpayers

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:30 AM

Just because there hasn't been any "global warming" since the 1990s is no reason not to carry fish by llama into the mountains where they'll be safe from it. From the moonbattery-ravaged farce we once knew as Great Britain:

Thousands of rare fish have been given a lift up a mountain on the back of llamas in an extraordinary move, led by the Environment Agency, to help the species survive climate change.
The endangered vendace, that has been in Britain since the Ice Age, is in danger of dying out as lakes and rivers warm up because of man made global warming.
To ensure the species survival, the UK's environmental watchdog took eggs from Derwentwater in Cumbria, thought to be the only remaining site where the fish are found in England and Wales. …
Lord Chris Smith, Chairman of the Environment Agency, said British species have to be protected from climate change.
"In addition to the anticipated warming of lakes and rivers, we may also see an increase in the occurrence of extreme weather events such as floods, droughts and heatwaves."

"Anticipated warming" means the warming hasn't happened yet. But given that climate always fluctuates, it will eventually. The predicted increase in the occurrence of weather can be attributed to the very real increase in weather-related hype and hysteria blasted at us by the liberal establishment media.

Andy Gowans, fisheries technical specialist for the Environment Agency, said the fish are now safe from global warming.

At last I'll be able to sleep at night.

Sharia in Michigan

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:30 AM

In an alarming leap forward into dhimmitude, Terry Jones of Koran-burning fame was actually thrown in jail in Michigan for planning a protest against radical Islam.

Florida pastor Terry Jones … said he plans to file a lawsuit against the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and other government offices in connection with his arrest Friday following a jury trial that found he was likely to create a "breach of the peace" for plans to protest outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn. …
The controversial Quran-burning pastor said he is working with the Ann Arbor-based Thomas More Law Center because "we were arrested for something we had not done."
Jones' case is unique, said Richard Thompson, the center's president and chief counsel. "There are legal experts and commentators from all sides of the political spectrum who agree that what happened to Pastor Jones was a violation of the First Amendment."
Constitutional law expert Robert Sedler said he is glad Jones is challenging the "bizarre" ruling by 19th District Judge Mark Somers requiring Jones to post a "peace bond," jailing him for refusing and ordering him to stay away from the mosque for three years — all before Jones held the demonstration.
"The Supreme Court says you cannot deny a permit because of the message," said Sedler, a Wayne State University Law School professor. "The U.S. Constitution supersedes everything, which is why this is so bizarre."

Jones says he has no intention of burning any Korans:

"We are not here demonstrating against the Koran, against their faith, against their rights, we are demonstrating against that radical element."

But apparently expressing disapproval of the ideology responsible for killing 3,000 Americans on 9/11 is not permitted in Michigan, although technically it is still part of America.

The prosecution reasoned that Jones might say something that would anger hair trigger Muslim maniacs on the other side of the world. Due to the complete absence of moral courage among our leadership, savages in Afghanistan now have veto power over our Constitution.

Moonbat Takes a Whack at Piñatas

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:31 AM

How are we supposed to tell parody from reality when we hear moonbats screeching diatribes like this:

Piñatas are not a good idea for your child's party. Children should never hit anything with a stick. Even worse, kids can get piñatas in their favorite character too. Doesn't anyone slightly cringe at the thought of their child whacking Dora the Explorer or Elmo around with a baseball bat? What is that doing for a child's character? Getting a flower or car piñata is only slightly less worse. …
People carefully teach their children, from the first time they playfully hit as a baby, that hitting is wrong. They don't allow hitting in their family and they don't spank. But then children are allowed to hit piñatas to the breaking point. Then they get candy; they are rewarded for violent behavior!

This moonbattery was barked by Yahoo! Associated Content contributor Vanessa Bartlemus, who unsurprisingly has a BA in Journalism and Psychology. Here's Vanessa:

You would think someone so obviously multicultural would cut some slack to a Mexican tradition. What is she, racist?

Chances are she doesn't think much of the Shrillary Rotten piñata:

Ms. Bartlemus calls for alternative piñatas from which candy is released by pulling a string, to be divided equally afterwards according to collectivist principles. Again we see that fun is the second casualty of liberalism, right after sanity.

Bankrupt Detroit Spends $1,092 Apiece on Library Chairs

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:26 AM

The nice thing about socialism as compared to capitalism is that socialists don't have to pinch pennies. It doesn't matter whether you spend rationally when the money is someone else's. From the test city for communism in America:

Detroit Public Library officials say finances have grown so bad they could close most neighborhood branches, but in a few weeks plan to unveil a revamped wing of a main library that even administrators say spares few expenses.
The South Wing is stocked with 20 yellow and orange European lounge chairs that cost $1,092 apiece, artistic pendant light fixtures and two alcohol-burning fireplaces. The project morphed from a $300,000 furniture update to a $2.3 million overhaul with new floors, study rooms, lighting and built-in, wood-framed book shelves.

They may have to close a few branches, but they aren't going out of business until the entire system collapses, so why not continue spending like maniacs?

A Detroit News review showed that, since 2008, the library has paid at least $160,000 to food vendors, including $1,760 at an ice-cream shop, and spent $1 million on 6 percent raises to union workers at a time counterparts in City Hall took 10 percent pay cuts.
…Library Deputy Director Juliet Machie defended the renovation, saying it was a badly needed update…

But even Machie made a few admissions:

Machie said officials argued about the value of the two fireplaces — which cost $5,021 apiece — but she said staff pushed for them because they had seen them in suburban libraries. The 24 pendant light fixtures hanging above computers cost $531 each.
Machie said she wouldn't have approved the chairs because they can be easily damaged. She said she has had to remove new leather chairs from the Skillman branch downtown and replace them with wooden ones after homeless people defecated on them.

How's that for crapping our money away? Yet bureaucrumbs still bleat their credo: "It's not our fault."

Edward Thomas, chairman of the library commission, said the South Wing spending has no connection to the library's current financial crisis. The library is funded by a 4.63 mill tax and officials project revenues will drop 20 percent per year until 2015 because of declining property values and population. The tax that generated about $40 million in 2010 is only expected to produce $14 million by 2015.

Why are property values declining? Because we've abandoned the free market for a quasi-socialist soft tyranny in which looters can blow over a $1,000 apiece of other people's money on chairs for bums to crap on. Due to America's most liberal city being ahead of the curve on our progressive tailspin into national ruin, anyone willing to pull his own weight has either escaped this blighted zone or is trying to, resulting in property values collapsing there faster than elsewhere.

But until "the rich" have been bled dry, the spending and looting that have brought this once great city to its current condition will continue.

Here's what the extravagantly furnished South Wing will look like in a couple of years:

Happy Lenin's Birthday, Moonbats

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:23 AM

…or to use the current appellation, Happy Earth Day!

Whatever you do, do not click here unless you want to watch moonbats celebrating with characteristic tastefulness.

As noted at C5's Simian Roadhouse, the first Earth Day in 1970 was so historic, its aftermath resembled that of the Moonbat Messiah's Ascension:

Via iHateTheMedia, here are a few of the ominous predictions made on the occasion of the first Earth Day:

"Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind."
• George Wald, Harvard Biologist
"Air pollution…is certainly going to take hundreds of thousands of lives in the next few years alone."
• Paul Ehrlich, Stanford University Biologist
"Dr. S. Dillon Ripley, secretary of the Smithsonian Institute, believes that in 25 years, somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of all the species of living animals will be extinct."
• Sen. Gaylord Nelson
"The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age."
• Kenneth Watt, Ecologist

Fortunately these disasters were averted by moonbats gathering to shriek hysterical lies and praise Gaia, a strategy that proved so effective that now instead of an ice age, we are allegedly threatened by global warming.

The Washington Times suggests that a better title for this special date might be Humanity Haters Bemoan Life on Earth Day:

Newsweek magazine dismissed the first Earth Day in 1970 as "a bizarre nationwide rain dance." The only difference between then and now is that the rain dancers moved into the government….
Earth Day has become inextricably linked with global-warming mania. Al Gore - a man with one of the largest carbon footprints in the world - recently likened the struggle to reduce emissions to the civil-rights movement. This is in keeping with the sanctimonious tone that usually accompanies Earth Day proclamations. To the radical greens, it's a day for humanity to engage in self-abasement, bow before the altar of Gaia and apologize for the offense against nature of simply being alive. It's a day to conjure fears, preach limits and condemn the capitalist system that created a country wealthy enough to indulge these shiftless hippies in the first place.

Canadian Comic Fined for Standing Up to Obnoxious Lesbian

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:58 AM

A comic's job is to ridicule people — but not the special people:

A Canadian comic has been ordered to pay CA$15,000 (US$15,745) to a woman he taunted along with her same-sex partner during a show in a Vancouver restaurant three years ago, the Vancouver Sun reported Thursday.
Stand-up comedian Guy Earle was ordered to pay the money to Lorna Pardy, 32, while the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal also ordered the Vancouver restaurant owner, Salam Ishmail, to pay her $7,500.

Pardy was heckling Earle and threw a drink at him, but that hardly excuses his politically incorrect crime against her, which consists of attacking her "identity and dignity as a woman and a lesbian." Consequently he will be compelled to compensate her for "lost wages and for injury to dignity, feelings and self respect."

She received this generous verdict by dragging Earle before an Orwellian "human rights commission." These outfits have been set up in Canada for the express purpose of denying the human right of free speech that is not to the liking of privileged groups held as sacred by the liberal ruling class.

Forcing thought criminals to pay the very people who take advantage of the deranged system to abuse them is the soft tyranny version of billing families for the bullets used to execute their loved ones, as Saddam Hussein used to do.

The purpose of also fining the restaurant owner is to guarantee that no one suspected of being likely to commit a thought crime can get work as a comic. The effect on comedy will be the same as liberalism's effect on everything else that it touches.

Canadian comics are advised to stick to making fun of Christians. Any heckling by perverts or other elite members of the "oppressed" must be answered with groveling submission.

Mayor Bloomberg Pushes Solar Energy

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:04 AM

Ignoring economic plight, New York's moonbat mayor continues to shove his subjects toward green dystopia:

The city will phase out the use of polluting heavy oils to heat buildings and will begin building solar power plants on capped landfills, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Thursday in his first update to a 4-year-old environmental plan that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2030.

Solar power plants require three things: massive government subsidies, lots of space, and lots of sun. New York is one for three. Bloomberg says that the city

will explore public-private partnerships [i.e., taxpayer-subsidized crony capitalist boondoggles] for renewable energy projects such as building solar power plants on top of larger areas of the city's capped landfills. If built large enough, the structures to be placed at Staten Island's former Fresh Kills Landfill and two other sites could produce up to 50 megawatts at full capacity, [Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Cas] Holloway said. One megawatt is enough electricity to serve 800 to 1,000 homes.

The population of New York City is well over 8 million.

If you're part of the unfortunate half of the population that pays federal taxes, you are financing Bloomberg's green gestures:

The city also plans to use $37 million in federal stimulus funds to start a loan program to help property owners pay for energy-efficiency upgrades.

If that doesn't adjust world temperatures to the polar bears' liking, maybe this will do the trick:

In addition, the revised plan includes new initiatives to open farmer's markets at local community gardens and to give tax abatements to people growing food on city roofs.

Unsurprisingly, the pointy-headed leftist authoritarians at Columbia University are delighted with NYC's Mayor for Life:

The final measure is especially important in a densely populated city where trash often has been trucked away with a sizable carbon cost, said Steven Cohen, a sustainability management professor at Columbia University, who spoke glowingly of the city's progress on environmental issues over the last four years.
"It's been a landmark for New York City," Cohen said of the plan. "It really demonstrates the mayor's understanding that the environment is not a frill but an essential part of the economic development of the city."

When double-talking moonbats bleat that enviropiousness is "an essential part of economic development," you know this idiocy is exacting a high price economically.

Wisconsin Gas Station Menaced for Selling to Republicans

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:52 AM

At least one good thing has come of the months-long tantrum Wisconsin public school teachers continue to throw in response to the throttling down of their gravy train: it has exposed the thuggery rampant among leftists entrusted with our children. Things have gotten so bad that gas stations are getting intimidating phone calls for allegedly allowing Republican pols to fill up.

State Sen. Joe Leibham has filed an open records request with the Sheboygan Area School District for details about an ominous phone call received Tuesday by Dick Hiers Northeast Standard. Leibham believes the caller, who told a station clerk it was a bad idea for the station to do business with the senator, made the call from a phone registered to the school district.
The request, which went to School Board President David Gallianetti on Thursday morning, asks for confirmation that the number is an SASD number, for the name and job title of the person who made the call and whether monitoring the private activities of elected officials is in the job description of district employees. …
The 8:15 a.m. call was recorded on the business's answering machine, which was still switched on from the night before, according to Hiers.
The female caller, who asked the clerk to confirm that Leibham was there and then asked if the business supports Leibham, wrapped up her comments with "You can tell Dick he's not good for business, I can tell you that," referring to Leibham.
Leibham said his concern is whether a school employee on school time would make statements like that from a school phone.

Here's another cause for concern: Leibham is among the Republican state senators who has received death threats for voting to limit collective bargaining for public sector workers.

Teachers union thuggery recorded for posterity.

Our economic system is based on growth. When the economy stops growing, it starts dying. This suits the Left just fine. People who aren't living hand to mouth are difficult to control. The purpose of environmentalism is to solve that problem.

Moonbat Professor Ellen Lewin Drops F-Bomb on Republican Students

Posted by Dave Blount at 1:15 PM

Higher education has become almost prohibitively expensive, but at least kids are exposed to new kinds of knowledge. Imagine what they're learning from University of Iowa professor Ellen Lewin:

A University of Iowa professor who studies same-sex relationships was so upset by an email from a campus Republican group promoting "Conservative Coming Out Week" that she fired off a vulgarity aimed at all Republicans, according to messages released by the school Wednesday.
"F--- you, Republicans" was professor Ellen Lewin's response Monday to the recruiting pitch from UI College Republicans.

She sent her expletive from her university account. Forced to apologize, she sent them another email in which she sneered,

"I admit the language was inappropriate, and apologize for any affront to anyone's delicate sensibilities."

Lewin took the opportunity to gripe about "fresh outrages committed by Republicans in government." With the jarring combination of projection, sanctimony, and hypocrisy that characterizes many liberals, the foul-mouthed professor then accused the College Republicans of making statements that were "extremely offensive, nearly rising to the level of obscenity." Their alleged offensiveness mainly consisted of a lack of sufficient reverence for homosexuality and public sector union work dodgers, and reference to an "Animal Rights BBQ."

As for the nutty professor's scholarship,

According to her university biography, she has studied a range of topics related to parenthood, reproduction and sexuality, including lesbian mothers, gay fathers and lesbian and gay commitment ceremonies.

You can see why Comrade Obama nationalized the student loan industry. Not many people will want to pay for this stuff with their own money.

Ethiopian Family Given $2,500/Week Housing Benefit to Help Colonize Britain

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:36 AM

Struggling to make your mortgage payments? Why not try immigrating to England by way of Ethiopia? You'll never have to worry about money again — at least, not until the welfare state collapses under the weight of its own insanity:

An Ethiopian family of 12 are being put up in a vast house costing the taxpayer almost £1,500-a-week [US$2479.50] just two months after arriving in Britain.
The couple and their 10 children are receiving a staggering £1,460-a-week housing benefit from the cash-strapped Tower Hamlets council in London - Britain's poorest borough.
The jobless family - who will also be receiving other handouts such as unemployment and child benefits - only arrived in London from Africa in the past few weeks. …
The Ethiopians, who are believed to be asylum-seekers, will cost taxpayers £76,000 if they are allowed to stay in the property for 12 months. — The Ethiopian family would have to be among the nation's top earners on £230,000 before tax to afford to spend the same amount of money on rent or a mortgage.

But what kind of fool works for money? That's only an invitation to get looted on behalf of those who don't.

In exchange for the ocean of taxpayer money they're basking in, the Ethiopians are advancing a crucial objective of England's liberal rulers: its de-Europeanization.

Think what their benefits will be if they manage to produce another ten kids.

Ethiopia's present, Britain's future.

Government Handouts Top Tax Revenue

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:31 AM

Liberals love the word sustainable. Yet Obamanomics is anything but:

U.S. households are now getting more in cash handouts from the government than they are paying in taxes for the first time since the Great Depression.
Households received $2.3 trillion in some kind of government support in 2010. That includes expanded unemployment benefits, as well as payments for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and stimulus spending, among other things.
But that's more than the $2.2 trillion households paid in taxes, an amount that has slumped largely due to the recession, according to an analysis by the Fiscal Times.
Also, an estimated 59% of the 308.7 million Americans in this country get at least one federal benefit, according to the Census Bureau, based on 2009 data. An estimated 46.5 million get Social Security; 42.6 million get Medicare; 42.4 million get Medicaid; 36.1 million get food stamps; 12.4 million get housing subsidies; and 3.2 million get Veterans' benefits.
And the handouts from the government have been growing. Government cash handouts account for a whopping 79% of household growth since 2007, even as household tax payments — for things like the income and payroll tax, among other taxes — have fallen by $312 billion.

Giving away more than they bring in is a simple trick. Our socialist overlords simply balance the books at the expense of a future that no longer exists by inflating the currency and borrowing from our enemies.

It has been said that a democracy can only last until people figure out that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. At that point, given a sufficient lack of cultural character (and liberalism has rotted ours to the core, to judge by who we elected president), there will be a looting frenzy, followed by collapse, followed by brutal authoritarianism. Right now we're toward the end of the looting and heading into the collapse.

Obamanomics illustrated.

IPAB: The Acronym for Death Panels

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:21 AM

The socialist remnants of Britain have the Orwellian NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) to determine who gets medical care and who doesn't. As ObamaCare congeals, we'll find ourselves living or dying at the whims of IPAB:

In his speech on the deficit, Obama pointed to IPAB [Independent Payment Advisory Board] as an answer to Paul Ryan's plan. In Ryan's vision, competition among insurers will force efficiencies and lower prices. Under Obama's plan, in contrast, health-care prices for the elderly would be controlled by IPAB. Ryan's plan puts consumers in the driver's seat, but also exposes them to the risk of bad choices and limited subsidies. While Obama's plan offers government-guaranteed care, IPAB's price controls will lead to one-size-fits-all rationing. As IPAB caps Medicare payments for various services, the elderly will be unable to obtain many kinds of care, or will experience de facto rationing via long treatment delays and sharp declines in the quality of care. And by the way, IPAB rationing will hit many current seniors, whereas Ryan's reform of Medicare will never affect anyone now 55 or older.

But that's not the worst of it. IPAB will be key to implementing Obamunists' goal, Stalinization of the healthcare system. James Capretta is on to them.

Their goal, says Capretta, is to work by stealth, so voters never fully realize that the government has adopted their strategy. The first part of the plan involves taxing "the rich" for Medicare and health insurance, but without Reagan-style indexing of taxes to inflation. That way, inflation-driven "bracket creep" will raise health-care taxes on the middle class without congressional Democrats ever having to vote for new taxes.

Inflation is the cruelest tax, as they say. Bracket creep is another reason our rulers are deliberately driving it into the stratosphere with their massive spending and "quantitative easing."

The second part of the plan involves IPAB-imposed price controls and the large-scale rationing of health care that implies. But to work, IPAB's authority has got to extend beyond Medicare. The idea, says Capretta, is to wait until the massive financial strains brought on by Obamacare bring calls for cost control. That's when the Democrats will push for IPAB's authority to be extended beyond Medicare to all of Obamacare, at which point we'll be very close to a single-payer health-care system with Canadian-style rationing.
The president's speech last week tracks well with Capretta's predictions. Obama promised tax hikes for "the rich," and vaguely alluded to plans to expand IPAB's powers as deficits mount. Of course, even as he laid the groundwork for strengthening IPAB, Obama gave no real hint of the massive health-care rationing that would imply. And at the moment, the Congressional Budget Office predicts little or no savings from IPAB's price-setting, so Obama's speech came off as an unserious reply to Ryan. But as Mark Hemingway points out, Obama's IPAB plan makes sense if we see it as "a Trojan horse" for a regime of "command-and-control rationing" quietly installed over the long term.

The Manchurian Moonbat can never lay out his true objectives, because at this point we still have guns and elections, and only a tiny minority of Americans are Marxists who would approve of what he's doing to our country if they understood it. But despite the smokescreen perpetually maintained by his collaborators in the "mainstream" media, you don't have to look hard to see what he's up to.

The worst is yet to come.

Your Share of the Debt

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:23 AM

Are you enough of a pessimist to believe the Congressional Budget Office's estimates regarding how crippling Obama's debt will be in the coming years? Or are you even more of a pessimist, realizing that government cost estimates are always much lower than the actual numbers? The chart below helps you visualize what your share of the interest will be, whether you expect the real debt to be what the CBO rosily predicts, or the 2-, 3-, and 4-fold figures that experience teaches us are more likely:

Needless to say, if you pay federal taxes your share will be higher than these average numbers, since nearly half the population doesn't.

70 Days for Burning Koran — In Britain

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:17 AM

No one will be surprised that a man has been sentenced to 70 days in prison for burning a Koran. Horrifically, few will even be surprised that this happened not in Iran or Saudi Arabia, but in Britain.

In Europe, poppies are a sacred symbol commemorating the valor and sacrifice of veterans. This is why Muslims publicly burn them. When British patriot and former soldier Andrew Ryan replied by burning a copy of their unholy book, the dhimmi authorities reacted as we've come to expect.

A former soldier has been sentenced to 70 days in prison for setting fire to a copy of Muslim holy book the Koran in the centre of Carlisle. …
The 32-year-old, of Summerhill, said he had been "shocked" watching a Muslim burning a poppy on Remembrance Day. …
While being handcuffed he shouted: "What about my country? What about burning poppies?"

Dhimmi authorities denounced Ryan's brave gesture of defiance as "theatrical bigotry" and a "hate crime."

As a former soldier, Ryan at least potentially put his life on the line to defend his right to burn that vile book. But Britain's worst enemies are on its own soil now, and unless civil war breaks out, its honorable military can do nothing to protect it.

Battle Scene From Obama's Third War

If you're wondering what we've been getting for the money Imam Obama has been flushing down his third war in Libya, has videos of pro-Gaddafi soldiers who were foolish enough to surrender to the rebels. For some reason they didn't run the footage on CNN. Here's one of the least unwatchable; mercifully, the action doesn't start until two minutes in:

Should Gaddafi Relocate to Philadelphia?

Posted by Dave Blount at 5:44 PM

If Libya gets too hot for Muammar Qadaffy now that Comrade Obama has thrown him under the bus, he might consider a move to the City of Brotherly Love. An ad for libertarian Republican mayoral candidate John Featherman makes the case:

Like Detroit, Philadelphia has passed the Democrat tipping point; enough people have left to escape the liberal looting that no one who opposes looting has a chance of getting elected. The inevitable result is a steady slide toward Third World levels of poverty and corruption. The incipient train wreck we are witnessing at the national level has already happened there.

Featherman is less likely to get elected mayor there than Gaddafi is, but at least he's making a point. If only there were more than a handful of true Americans left in Philly to hear it.

Public Sector Union in Action in Scranton

Posted by Dave Blount at 3:18 PM

Despite controlling the establishment, leftists like to congratulate themselves on "speaking truth to power." Maybe they could use this as an example of actually doing so — a public sector union boldly stands up to the Chief of Police:

The Scranton police union has filed an unfair labor practice complaint against the city for an off-duty drug arrest made by Police Chief Dan Duffy in March.
The complaint, which was filed with the state Labor Relations Board on April 14, takes issue with the chief arresting a man who was allegedly in possession of marijuana because the chief is not a member of the collective bargaining unit and was "off duty" when the March 20 arrest was made. …
The complaint states that "the work of apprehending and arresting individuals has been the sole and exclusive province of members of the bargaining unit," and that the city did not inform or negotiate with the union that the chief would be "performing bargaining unit work."
Because of this, the union says the city violated the state Labor Relations Act and the Policemen and Firemen Collective Bargaining Act.

The union's reasoning, if you can call it that, is that members might get laid off if the Chief goes out and does the arresting himself.

Bankrupting companies and state treasuries by demanding more money for less work isn't the only task of unions. To the greatest extent possible, they ensure that nothing constructive gets done by anyone.

A rare occasion: someone is allowed to do something.

CBS Suppresses Obama Open Mic Recording

Posted by Dave Blount at 1:23 PM

Tapes cost Richard Nixon a great deal of trouble; he even had to accidentally erase a little audio. Despite having a similar disposition in some respects, Barack Hussein Obama doesn't have this sort of problem. It helps to have the media on your side:

Last weekend, His Presidency Barack Obama was captured making potentially offensive comments to a group of big money donors who had paid large sums of money for special access to His Presidency.

CBS released only "selectively edited" parts of the recording. What about the rest?

John Romano, Publisher of the blog "Yes, But, However!" has confirmed with CBS's Mark Knoller (via Twitter) that CBS has decided that they are not going to release the complete recording.
@markknoller Why haven't you released all of the audio of President Obama's "donor meeting"? If you have please link?
@markknoller This is my third request. Why will you not release the full audio of Obama's donor conversation?
@yesbuthowever My editors decided against it.
People can speculate as to what their motive is, but we suspect that they do not want to jeopardize their White House access leading into campaign season by being the ones to release the audio of His Presidency referring to Americans as "slugs."

The parts CBS let out are bad enough. In addition to calling people slugs, the Moonbat Messiah had this to say about the disappointing prospects of revolt in Qatar:

"[P]art of the reason is that the per capita income of Qatar is 145,000 dollars a year. That will dampen a lot of conflict,."

That is, economic prosperity is spoiling the opportunity for a revolution that could put the Muslim Brotherhood a step closer to choking off our oil supply. Given his revolutionary communist background and what he has systematically done to Americans' prospects for future prosperity, this alone is a terrifying glimpse of B. Hussein's mentality. Imagine what his enablers at CBS suppressed.

Defender of Faithlessness

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:46 AM

If the British monarchy suffers the ultimate indignity of Prince Charles ascending to the throne, that will make Chucklehead the "Defender of the Faith" — i.e., Christianity. But that wouldn't be very politically correct, so Chuckles has other ideas. If he has his way, the

Supreme Governor of the Church of England, would no longer be known as Defender of the Faith for the first time since the reign of Henry VIII.
The Prince caused controversy within the Anglican church when he floated the idea several years ago of becoming Defender of the Faiths in an attempt to embrace the other religions in Britain.

"Other religions" means Islam, which is supplanting Christianity as the once great nation, sapped of strength by socialism, listlessly succumbs to demographic conquest.

In a compromise he has now opted for Defender of Faith which he hopes will unite the different strands of society, and their beliefs, at his Coronation.

Prince Chucklehead's pernicious intent is in diametric opposition to the purpose of the original title.

The Monarch has been known by the title Defender of the Faith ever since the title was bestowed on Henry VIII by the Pope in 1521 for his early support for Roman Catholicism.

Maybe Chuck could get an Iranian Ayatollah to declare him the Defender of Dhimmitude.

Donald Trump: Ross Perot II

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:05 AM

When Donald Trump called for rebuilding the World Trade Center after 9/11 while lesser men squabbled over lesser projects, he more than made up for his preposterous hair. His willingness to lift the rock on the Manchurian Moonbat's past is greatly appreciated, particularly after we watched the country being given away by the obsequious John McLame. But before we take the Donald too seriously as a presidential candidate, we need to examine his own past. From October 1999:

Real estate developer Donald Trump officially changed his party affiliation on Monday to the Independence Party, New York's version of the Reform Party. … Trump will soon begin travelling to Miami, Los Angeles and other cities to meet with Reform Party leaders to assess the prospects of winning the party's presidential nomination.
Trump has not yet formally declared he would seek the Reform Party nomination, but he announced Sunday he was quitting the Republican Party, a key step in a possible bid for the Reform Party nomination for the 2000 presidential race.

Readers may recall that the Reform Party was the platform of an egomaniacal gnome named Ross Perot, who took the White House out of Republican hands and presented it to Slick Willie Clinton on a silver platter in exchange for the gratification of seeing himself on the news. America's downward slide into socialist mediocrity has been accelerating ever since.

Still want the Donald on the ballot? Read this:

Trump, who has said talk show host Oprah Winfrey would be an ideal running mate, said he will make a decision by March after gauging support.

Oprah is the nitwit liberal who sold Barack Hussein Obama to the daytime TV-watching segment of the population.

No need to go into the details of Trump's generous contributions to slimy left-wing malefactors like Eliot Spitzer, Andrew Cuomo, Charlie Rangel, Chappaquiddick Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Harry Reid, Shrillary Rotten Clinton, and even the Mephistophelian Charles "Chuck You" Schumer; we can rest the case right here.

If he helps break down the taboo against shining a critical light on the Manchurian Moonbat, wonderful. But if the clownish and insincere Donald appears anywhere on the ballot in 2012, Obama gets another four years to "fundamentally transform" America into ruin.

If we can't do better than this, we're finished.

Environmental Red Tape Used to Prevent Border Defense

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:54 AM

There isn't much constructive activity the radical environmentalist bureaucracy won't prevent — not even guarding the border from drug cartels and economically unsustainable hordes of colonists:

Federal land managers in Arizona, where about half of all illegal alien apprehensions took place in 2010, denied a U.S. Border Patrol station permission to build a road deemed necessary for "achieving or maintaining operational control" of an area along the southwest border.
According to an April 15 report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), land managers, including officials from the Department of Interior and Department of Agriculture, denied permission to build the road because of environmental restrictions related to the Wilderness Act.
The GAO, which surveyed 26 stations along the southwest border, also found that Border Patrol headquarters had denied two of them funding for infrastructure along the southwest border which was required to "achieve or maintain operational control."
Federal lands comprise about 820 miles, or more than 40 percent, of the approximately 2,000-mile southwest border. As of Sept. 30, 2010, the U.S. government had established operational or "effective" control along less than half (873 miles) of that border.

Let me repeat that:

As of Sept. 30, 2010, the U.S. government had established operational or "effective" control along less than half (873 miles) of that border.

We are fighting three wars on the other side of the world, at least two of them with only vague objectives, yet the bumbling gang of left-wing looters that is insolent enough to call itself the US government has not established control of the border, despite horrific violence spilling over from the other side and massive colonization by foreign welfare parasites.

Pernicious laws largely dictated by the anti-human environmentalist lobby that not only reduce our standard of living but impede border security include the Wilderness Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and National Historic Preservation Act.

Although Arizona is bearing the brunt of the preventable invasion, similar shenanigans are going on elsewhere:

In New Mexico, red tape requiring "environmental and historic property assessments" of an area which illegal aliens were known to use had prevented Border Patrol from monitoring that span of the border for almost eight months.

At least the bureauweenies are preserving unspoiled nature so we can see it in all its splendor, right? Wrong; our rulers have posted signs warning us to stay off our federal lands due to the danger from the heavily armed Mexicans they refuse to defend us from.

Well, then even if we can't enjoy it, at least the scorpions and rattlesnakes can witness the virgin wilderness free of mankind's taint. Wrong again; this is what the invaders have been doing to the desert:

History of Moonbattery: Weather Underground

The red diaper baby in the White House is part of the second generation of the same social movement that gave us the Weather Underground. Obama has had numerous close associations with surviving members of this violent communist cult. He launched his political career in the home of prominent unrepentant Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. Liberals who knew this and voted for him anyway were no doubt rewarded with the thrill of daring they get from dabbling in radical chic.

This documentary gives an idea of what it means to be associated with the Weather Underground:

Only the strategy has changed, not the brazenly evil collectivist ideology. Now Mao's teachings are to be imposed not by relatively harmless acts of small-scale terrorism, but by employing Saul Alinsky's community organizer tactics to take control of the government.

Weather Underground maniacs set off their share of bombs, but the biggest bomb ever planted by a domestic terrorist has yet to explode. When it does, it will take out the whole country, making a nuclear blast look like a firecracker. The bomb is Obama's debt.

Homosexual Militants Attack Religious Schools From Within

Posted by Dave Blount at 12:01 PM

Despite their extreme pushiness, arrogance, and lack of respect for anything that isn't unclean, you might think homosexual militants would at least leave Bible colleges alone in their relentless campaign for official sanction. After all, by basing their public identity on an unholy perversion, they are explicitly rejecting the Bible, which condemns homosexual depravity in the strongest terms. Who are they to dictate policy? Yet we read this:

Battles for acceptance by gay and lesbian students have erupted in the places that expect it the least: the scores of Bible colleges and evangelical Christian universities that, in their founding beliefs, see homosexuality as a sin.
Decades after the gay rights movement swept the country's secular schools, more gays and lesbians at Christian colleges are starting to come out of the closet, demanding a right to proclaim their identities and form campus clubs, and rejecting suggestions to seek help in suppressing homosexual desires.

Baylor, the country's largest Baptist university, has refused to approve an official homosexuality advocacy forum for the obvious reason that it would put the school's stamp of approval on abominations contrary to everything it stands for. Breaking down this resistance is the purpose of the activists.

Despite the rebuff, more than 50 students continue to hold weekly gatherings of their Sexual Identity Forum, and will keep seeking the moral validation that would come with formal status, said Samantha A. Jones, a senior and president of the group.

No one's preventing them from getting together to congratulate each other on their politically correct perversity. But that's not good enough. They want "moral validation" of their immoral behavior and the depraved lifestyle and ideology that come with it.

It would be far better for our moonbat ruling class to ban Christianity outright than to use the homosexual agenda to rot it into obsolescence from the inside out.

Moonbat Tech: Saving Gaia by Turning People Into Garden Manure

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:31 AM

Mortuary concerns have presented progressives with opportunities to make a pageant of their Gaia-worship and contempt for human life. The departed are made into sludge and washed down the drain in honor of the polar bears, or buried in absurd woolen caskets so that they'll "rot down" faster. Now Swedish environmentalist Susanne Wiigh-Mäsak introduces promession:

The first step of promession is to remove the approximate 70-percent water component from the corpse.
Within a week and a half after death, the body is frozen to -18 degrees Celsius and then submerged in liquid nitrogen, a substance that Promessa Organic claims does not cause any environmental harm.
The body now very brittle is then treated to vibrations of specific amplitude that reduce the corpse to a fine organic powder, both hygienic and odourless. It finally is laid in a biodegradable container made of cornstarch.

Wait 6 to 12 months and voilà: the deceased is now fertilizer. Experiments with the process have gone well:

To date, promession has been tested on the carcasses of hundreds of naturally expired pigs and cows. Wiigh-Mäsak planted roses above the containers and proclaims 'excellent results.'

As Ingrid Newkirk might put it, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy is a cow is a pile of something a cow left in the field.

Sex Change for 10-Year-Old

In Australia, social engineers press forward with the sexual disfigurement of little kids:

A court has allowed a 10-year-old boy to become the youngest Australian to have sex-change therapy.
The boy, known as Jamie, has lived as a girl for two years, dressing in feminine clothes, using the girls' toilet at school and "presenting as a very attractive young girl with long, blonde hair", the court heard. …
Family Court Justice Linda Dessau ordered that Jamie be allowed to start drug therapy to stop male puberty and that the court reconvene when she turned 16 to consider approving the second stage of taking female hormones to feminise the body.

No mention of the chopadichophomy procedure, but it can't be far behind the chemically induced mutation therapy.

We might want to rethink proscriptions on cruel and unusual punishment if the fiends who inflict their sick progressive ideology on children in this manner are ever brought to justice.

Charles Manson Endorses Global Warming Hoax

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:39 AM

Al Gore can take heart. His preposterous swindle — which was taken up by the liberal establishment as a means of imposing global socialism but has been running out of steam as ever more people see through it — has another famous advocate:

Crazed cult leader Charles Manson has broken a 20-year silence in a prison interview coinciding with the 40th anniversary of his conviction for the gruesome Sharon Tate murders - to speak out about global warming.
The infamous killer, who started championing environmental causes from behind bars, bemoaned the 'bad things' being done to environment in a rambling phone interview from his Californian jail cell.
'Everyone's God and if we don't wake up to that there's going to be no weather because our polar caps are melting because we're doing bad things to the atmosphere.
'If we don't change that as rapidly as I'm speaking to you now, if we don't put the green back on the planet and put the trees back that we've butchered, if we don't go to war against the problem...' he added, trailing off.
Manson, who described himself to his interviewer as a 'bad man who shoots people', brainwashed members of a commune known as The Family into butchering eight people including film director Roman Polanski's pregnant wife Sharon Tate in July and August 1969.

Good thing Manson was spared the death penalty. He has been rehabilitated into a garden variety moonbat — along with at least one of his Family:

[Manson] has attracted a number of followers because of his infamy, but also because of his perceived environmental conscience.
He is a founder of ATWA (which both stands for Air Trees Water Animals and All The Way Alive). It's typically manic mission statement warns of the destruction of the planet from pollution.
Another ATWA founder, Lynette Fromme, was jailed for the attempted assassination of President Gerald Ford with an unloaded gun in 1975. She claimed she did so 'for the redwoods'.

Maybe it's not too late for Manson to get off on the insanity defense. If people didn't believe he was certifiably insane before, they ought to now.

Sometimes you can tell people would believe in global warming just by looking at them.

Nigeria Demonstrates How Muslims Lose Elections

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:42 AM

This is what happens when non-Muslims win an election in a partially Muslim country:

Deadly rioting erupted across Nigeria's largely Muslim north on Monday as youths torched churches and homes in anger at President Goodluck Jonathan's election victory.
Jonathan, the first president from the oil producing Niger Delta, was declared the winner with around 57 percent of votes. He defeated Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler from the north, who got around 31 percent.
Observers have called the poll the fairest in decades in Africa's most populous nation.

But to Muslims, an election is only valid if they win. If they don't, there is violence. The Muslim north went up in flames:

"In Kaduna we have seen dead bodies lying by the road," Red Cross official Umar Mairiga told Reuters. "Two thousand people have been displaced at one military camp alone."

Authorities in the northern state of Kaduna imposed a 24-hour curfew after protesters set fire to the residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo in the town of Zaria and forced their way into the central prison, releasing inmates.
The body of a small boy shot in the chest by a stray bullet was brought to a police station.
"They have destroyed our cars and our houses. I had to run for my life and I am now in my neighbour's house," said Dora Ogbebor, a resident of Zaria whose origins are in the south.
Plumes of smoke rose into the air in parts of Kaduna as protesters set fire to barricades of tyres. Security forces fired in the air and used teargas to disperse groups of youths shouting "We want Buhari, we want Buhari". …
Buhari was yet to make any public statement on the violence despite appeals by foreign embassies that he call for calm.

Now for the punch line:

Police said the violence was political rather than ethnic or religious.

Islam is a totalitarian political creed, dedicated to global conquest just like communism, but dressed in the mystical ravings of an unhinged warlord from the Dark Ages instead of sophomoric rhetoric about the proletariat and bourgeoisie. All Muslim violence is political, but it is also all religious.

Eventually Nigeria will reach the tipping point, and the same thing will happen to Christians there as in Lebanon. The Islamic empire will be one country larger; civilization will be one country smaller.

In the meantime, congratulations to Nigerians on their democratic election. They had better buckle up; any country where Islam has gotten its nose in the tent is in for a rough ride.

Moonbat Intelligentsia Spreads the Intelligence Around

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:15 AM

According to leftist ideology, all wealth should be confiscated by the authorities to be redistributed equally among all people, except among the redistributors, who get more for being the bosses. Although the Gramscian/Fabian strategy of the Democrat Party takes a gradualist approach to achieving this ultimate objective, redistribution of intelligence has already been achieved through the declaration that all humans are equally intelligent. As Nina Power shouts in The Philosophers' Magazine:

[W]e live in an age where we see a resurgence of the idea that some people are fundamentally less intelligent than others The spectre of racism and sexism haunts these supposedly neutral attempts to measure intelligence, as in Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray's "bell curve" argument, currently the most cited argument in the entirety of the social sciences — precisely because it is wrong. Thus the contemporary axiom or assertion that everyone is equally intelligent is something of a revelation, for all its bluntness.
The work of Jacques Rancière, who never tires of repeating his assertion that equality is not just something to be fought for, but something to be presupposed, is, for me, one of the most important ideas of the past decade. Although Rancière begins the discussion of this idea in his 1987 text The Ignorant Schoolmaster, it is really only in the last ten years that others have taken up the idea and attempted to work out what it might mean for politics, art and philosophy. Equality may also be something one wishes for in a future to come, after fundamental shifts in the arrangement and order of society. But this is not Rancière's point at all. Equality is not something to be achieved, but something to be presupposed, universally. Everyone is equally intelligent.

How do we know that Albert Einstein and Mike Tyson would be equally intelligent? Because to think otherwise would be racist. How do we know Thomas Edison and Joy Behar would be equally intelligent? Because to think otherwise would be sexist.

Once again pointy-headed liberal elite profundity has failed to pass the laugh test.

Nina Power is equally intelligent to a pine cone.

Opening Weekend Is Big Success for Atlas Shrugged Part I

Posted by Dave Blount at 2:22 PM

If you missed Atlas Shrugged Part I over the weekend, you'll want to make every effort to see it while it's still playing. Like the story's protagonists, its success has been well-earned:

After an incredible opening weekend, it would appear it's time to expand. In only 300 theaters, Atlas Shrugged made 1.67 million dollars averaging $5,590 — 3rd only to Rio and Scream 4 in averages.

That's despite playing largely in limited capacity theaters.

If it isn't showing in your area, you can make do by turning on the news. America undergoing Obama's "fundamental transformation" is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from Ayn Rand's dystopia:

Children Given Drugs to Suspend Puberty to Facilitate Sex Change Operations

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:00 AM

When you combine liberal social engineering with science, the result is horror. From Britain:

Children as young as 12 are to be allowed drugs to block puberty while they decide whether to have a sex change, it has been revealed.
The monthly injection suspends the onset of adulthood so that young people confused about their gender can be sure of any decision before they take on too many masculine or feminine features.

How do children become confused about their gender? Probably by attending moonbat-controlled schools, which the liberal ruling class has been using with alarming aggressiveness to brainwash impressionable kids into becoming perverts and freaks (see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, etc.).

One of the main effects of the drugs is to stunt the development of sexual organs so less surgery will be required if someone chooses to permanently change their gender at a later date. …
Boys will be prevented from developing male traits such as facial hair, deeper voices and Adam's apples and girls will not develop breasts or menstruate.

Time Magazine Declares Icemakers to Be a Threat to the Planet

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:49 AM

Having long crossed into the realm of self-parody, global warming hoaxers in the liberal establishment media see no reason to look back now. The tired joke calling itself Time Magazine shrieks that we should fear our icemakers:

To the long list of human inventions that are wrecking global climate — the internal combustion engine, the industrial era factory — add the automatic ice maker.

Note how casually establishment apparatchiks take for granted that the internal combustion engine is bad, although without it modern society would not be possible.

As for icemakers, they are yet another convenience our moonbat rulers would prefer we live without.

[A]nalysts at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently decided to give them a closer look — and they got a surprise when they did.
According to the just-released findings, the average ice maker in the average fridge increases energy consumption by 12% to 20%… So why should the simple business of automating the process be so energetically expensive?
The answer, it turns out, is the tiny motor inside the freezing system that's used to release the bits of ice from the mold and dump them into a tray. A motor that is designed to operate in so cold a setting needs an internal heater to keep it from freezing up, and heating elements require a lot of power — in this case, roughly three fourths of the total additional energy the ice maker uses.

Cold makes us use more energy, which is bad, because using too much energy makes it be too warm for the polar bears. Maybe Time should go back to screeching about the impending ice age, as they were doing in the 70s.

Pro-Homosexual Propaganda to Be Imposed Through Public Schools in California

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:16 AM

When homosexual judge Vaughn Walker used his position of trust to thwart the will of the public and impose the militant homosexual agenda, he wasn't alone. State senator Mark Leno, also openly homosexual, is doing the same in the legislative branch. Walker advanced the attack on marriage; Leno has been pushing a cause even more dear to the hearts of the LGBT community — the corruption of children:

The state Senate has approved legislation that would require California's public schools to include gay history in social studies lessons. …
The bill, sponsored by Democratic Sen. Mark Leno of San Francisco, passed Thursday on a 23-14 vote. The measure now goes to the Assembly.

Needless to say, "gay history" will not include any information that does not serve to glorify homosexual depravity. Informing children of homosexuality's disastrous effects on public health would defeat the whole purpose.

Because California is the largest market for school textbooks, state bureauweenies can impose their grotesque ideology on the country as a whole by effectively dictating content to publishers.

If schools were in private hands instead of Big Government's, what are the chances your kids would be learning pro-perversion propaganda instead of the three R's?

Geithner Confident GOP Will Cave on Debt Ceiling

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:01 AM

If there's one thing that all rational adults ought to be able to agree on, it's that the debt ceiling needs to be dramatically lowered, not raised. Yet we read this:

Congressional Republicans are trying to figure out which card to play next after the White House got into some high-stakes poker-playing over the weekend, with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner effectively calling the GOP's bluff on the debt limit.

It had better not be a bluff, or it will be called again when the debt hits the next ceiling, and the next and the next until the creditors figure out that it will never be repaid.

Republicans for weeks have threatened to withhold their support for raising the $14.3 trillion ceiling unless and until they see substantive commitments to cut spending and reform the budget. …
But Geithner, speaking on two Sunday shows, said he's not worried. He said Congress will raise the debt limit and suggested leaders from both parties assured President Obama last week they won't let the country go into default.

With Comrade Obama's popularity collapsing, the Republicans would have their sails full of wind if they would just do what we elected them to do: cut spending on a meaningful scale. But throwing away our future on a senseless binge that won't end until our currency collapses may continue to be a bipartisan activity.

In closely related news, Standard & Poor's has this to say about the USA's outlook:

"Because the U.S. has, relative to its 'AAA' peers, what we consider to be very large budget deficits and rising government indebtedness and the path to addressing these is not clear to us, we have revised our outlook on the long-term rating to negative from stable."

In response to this news, the once mighty dollar predictably continued to disintegrate.

Obama has made it unavoidably obvious that he plans to scuttle the ship on the rocks of debt per the Cloward-Piven strategy. Republicans aren't there to compromise with him, much less to collude with him. They are there to stop him and his socialist accomplices immediately, before it's too late.

Keith Olbermann Admits That Abortion Is Murder

Since then he's been spewing his mendacious bile on Al Gore's unwatched Current TV. Has the obscurity given him a chance to resolve his personal issues and possibly grow up a little? No it hasn't:

[Olbermann] suggested that conservative commentator S.E. Cupp is a prime example of why the world needs Planned Parenthood (PP). Translation, she should have never been born.

Olbie tweeted this:

Founder Margaret Sanger would certainly agree that the purpose of Planned Parenthood is to abort the sort of people our statist ruling class doesn't like.

Remaining true to character, Queef quickly ducked behind a smokescreen of obfuscation, sniveling that he had never mentioned abortion (although that's what Planned Parenthood is primarily known for), that he meant S.E.'s parents should have availed themselves of taxpayer-subsidized counseling. Then they might have used birth control so that she never would have been born.

SWAT Team Sent In to Confiscate 13-Year-Old Over Unneeded Medication

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:05 AM

Tax Day is a good time for a reminder that when our bureaucrat slave masters ask us to do something, they are telling us to do it. If we refuse, the velvet glove comes off, and the brutal fist that is government comes down on our faces full force:

Detroit mother Maryanne Godboldo faces multiple felony charges and [was] being held on $500,000 bond after a 10-hour standoff with a heavily armed police SWAT team. Godboldo was protecting her 13-year-old daughter from unnecessary medication ordered by the state.
Godboldo's daughter was born with a defective foot that required amputation of her leg below the knee, which led to Maryanne becoming a stay-at-home mother after her birth, according to Health Impact News Daily.
Despite her handicap, the child swam, sang, danced and played the piano. However, as the home schooled girl approached middle school age, she apparently wanted to start attending public school, and therefore had to "catch up" on immunizations the state insists are required under color of law.
SWAT police descend on mother's apartment, reportedly using a tank.
According to her aunt, Penny Godboldo, the girl suffered an adverse reaction to the immunizations. "She began acting out of character, being irritated, having facial grimaces that have been associated with immunizations," Penny told the Detroit News.
Maryanne Godboldo sought help from the Children's Center, an organization claiming to help families with at-risk children. Godboldo told relatives the medications ordered by the doctor worsened symptoms, including behavioral problems.
When Godboldo refused to give her child the prescribed medication, Child Protective Services became involved. CPS obtained a warrant to remove the girl, but Maryanne reportedly refused to surrender the child to the state.

Next thing you know:

So pay every penny of your taxes today, and be thankful that even if 99¢ of every dollar is wasted on unproductive activities forbidden to the federal government by the 10th Amendment, at least they won't send in a paramilitary squad to kick down your door, so long as you're compliant.

By the way, now that authorities have confiscated Godboldo's daughter, they've determined that there's no immediate need for the psychotropic meds anyway. But there's always a need to do as you're told.

Trust Fund Moonbats Lobby for Those Who Earned Their Wealth to Be Looted

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:56 AM

Taking the hypocrisy and depraved sanctimony that characterize liberalism to a new extreme of self-parody, useless trust fund moonbats have formed a tax-exempt corporation to enforce their demand that other rich people who unlike themselves actually earned their money turn over more of it to be flagrantly wasted by bureaucrats.

"Our current tax system perpetuates inequality," [bleats] Elspeth Gilmore. "Wealthy people can really change that narrative."
Gilmore is the co-director of Resource Generation, a national nonprofit [i.e., tax exempt] organization that supports and challenges young, progressive people with wealth to leverage their privilege and resources for social change.

One way Elksbreath and his limousine Leninist friends have leveraged their privilege is by presenting a sign reading "Another trust fund baby for taxing the rich! Let's pay our fair share!" at a socialist rally in front of NYC's Waldorf Astoria.

Not all of their activities are as innocuous:

Resource Generation recently teamed up with another nonprofit that organizes affluent activists, Wealth for the Common Good, to form a Progressive Tax Campaign. They will be organizing and advocating a change in the policy, laws and perceptions of our tax system. Specifically, the campaign aims to draw attention to the social services that taxing the wealthy could fund, and advocates higher tax bracket rates for top income earners, as well as higher taxes on investment income.

Being rich with money they admittedly did not earn, they are in an excellent position to voluntarily donate to whatever cause appeals to them, even if it is a supremely moronic cause like our bloated, wasteful, and malignant federal government. But they prefer to lobby for other people's money to be stolen.

The reason for this is that like all progressives they are moral reprobates, on a lower level than a punk holding up a liquor store, who at least has the honesty to admit he's a thief.

Trust fund socialists, the world's lowest life form.

Gulf Coast Looting Spree

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:31 AM

How do you strike it rich in the Age of Obama? Not by working hard — that would just produce wealth to be confiscated. You need to be one of the confiscators — like the spillionaires on the Gulf Coast, where BP has had its arm twisted into "spreading the wealth around" to the tune of $16 billion.

To show how the money flowed, ProPublica interviewed people who worked on the spill and examined records for St. Bernard Parish, a coastal community about five miles southeast of downtown New Orleans.
Those documents show that companies with ties to parish insiders got lucrative contracts and then charged BP for every possible expense. The prime cleanup company submitted bills with little or no documentation. A subcontractor billed BP $15,400 per month to rent a generator that usually cost $1,500 a month. Another company charged BP more than a $1 million a month for land it had been renting for less than $1,700 a month.

The looting spree has been a boon to the local economy:

Sales tax collections from Louisiana's Plaquemines Parish rose more than 71 percent. And St. Bernard had a bigger jump than anywhere. That parish collected almost $26.8 million in sales and lodging tax receipts in the six months after the spill, almost twice as much as over the same period in 2009. Flush with cash from cleanup and claims, many fishermen bought new boats and trucks. Sales at the nearest Chevrolet dealer rose 41 percent.

Unsurprisingly, bureaucrats have fared especially well.

Some of the money also went to overtime pay for more than 40 parish employees, including three who claimed overtime for picking up dog food for the animal shelter. St. Bernard's homeland security director, David Dysart, a salaried employee, got almost $23,000 for working 497 hours of overtime in less than seven weeks….

As can be expected under crony capitalist Obamanomics,

Many companies and people earning big money in St. Bernard Parish had connections to parish powerbrokers, according to court documents, parish records and interviews done by ProPublica.

The cash looted from BP did help some of the local fishermen as promised.

One man who earned $67,000 in 2009, fishing crabs and hunting a swamp rat called nutria, got $100,000 for his six-month claim. That was on top of $90,000 for working on the cleanup and $20,000 he received in initial BP claims. In the eight months after the spill, he made $210,000, more than three times his 2009 income.

But you needn't be a fisherman to cash in — just be shameless enough to file a claim:

Many fishermen fretted that businesses that had been hurt by the recession, not the spill, were getting BP money: hairdressers, waiters, restaurant owners.
Felesia Carter, a manager at St. Bernard's only off-track betting parlor, said customers were gambling away claims money. Her business was so good, she said, that employees worked overtime.

Too bad the party can't last. As a wise woman once observed, eventually you run out of other people's money.

Unlike expropriating wealth, creating it is sustainable, but only if our rulers allow it. Tragically, Obama has used the spilt oil — which nature quickly cleaned up — as a pretext not just to loot his old financiers at BP, but to strangle the oil production that was a major pillar of the Gulf economy.

Tim Berners-Lee: Internet Access Is a Human Right

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:22 AM

Now that we are endowed with our fundamental rights not by our Creator, but by the liberal ruling class, practically anything can qualify as a human right. Tim Berners-Lee found one right where you might expect:

Two decades after creating the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee says humans have become so reliant on it that access to the Web should now be considered a basic right.

Too bad Henry Ford didn't think to declare a new car to be a basic right. Think of the government-subsidized sales it would have brought him. After all, humans are reliant on transportation, so shouldn't they all be provided with a new car? (Apologies to the memory of Henry Ford, who was not a looter.)

In a speech at an MIT symposium, Berners-Lee compared access to the Web with access to water. While access to water is a more fundamental right, because people simply cannot survive without it, Web access should be seen as a right, too, because anyone who lacks Web access will fall behind their more connected peers.

Don't forget, a computer would have to be a human right too. Web access doesn't do you much good without a computer. Then you need a power supply, a desk to put the computer on, a comfy chair for the desk…

This will be difficult for liberals to grasp, but not only is Internet access not a fundamental right, neither is water. You have a right to be left alone to acquire your own water, your own computer, and your own Internet access — and you have a right not to be forced into slave labor to pay for anyone else's.

When moonbats talk about rights, a concept beyond their comprehension, they are actually talking about tyranny.

It's a short step from Berners-Lee's flaky posturing to something more ominous. At the same symposium:

[MIT Media Lab creator Nicholas] Negroponte used his time on stage to reflect on both the MIT Media Lab and the One Laptop Per Child project, which has supplied millions of cheap computers to children in some of the world's poorest countries. Negroponte's project could be seen as extending the idea that the Web is a basic human right with concrete action, putting laptops in the hands of children who otherwise would not get them. …
The free market alone would not have been a great enough force to accomplish this, he said.

The natural transition from a progressive's concept of "rights" to the alleged failings of the free market confirms that we are not talking about liberty, but about its diametric antithesis, collectivism.

If it makes you feel good about yourself to donate a free laptop that a Peruvian goatherd can use to prop open the door of his hut, go for it. But if the laptops are acquired coercively, that is theft, no matter how noble the thieves think they are as they preen at their podiums. Obviously, they won't stop with laptops.

They have a right to free laptops paid for by you.

Obama Has Been Increasing Debt by $1,148 per Household per Month

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:35 AM

Comrade Obama may not have to worry about the media managing to get him reelected in 2012. His work might be done by then. That is, at the rate he is plunging us into debt, the economy might already have collapsed:

Overall, according to the U.S. Treasury, the federal debt increased by $3,646,116,554,704.36 between Jan. 20, 2009, when Obama was inaugurated, and April 13, 2011, when he gave a major speech announcing a plan to deal with the debt.
Given that the Census Bureau estimated in March that there are 117,538,000 households in the United States, the $3.6461 trillion increase in the debt under Obama works out to $31,020 per household.
Obama has now been in office 27 months. The $31,020 per household increase in the federal debt under his watch thus equals a per-household increase of $1,148 per month.

Now he says he's going to deal with the debt by a method any idiot could have predicted: raising taxes. Every time our looter government steals a nickel, it spends a dime and then demands more, leaving the economy that much weaker.

No country can sustain this insanity indefinitely. Unless Obama et al. can be pried out of power, we are facing total ruin.

It will never be enough.

UN Treaty Would Impose Global Poverty and Authoritarianism on Behalf of Mother Earth

Posted by Dave Blount at 1:04 PM

Following through on Al Gore's green authoritarianism to a level of oppression that Joseph Stalin never thought of brings us to the realm of Bolivia's socialist strongman Evo Morales, a colleague of Hugo Chavez and the Castro Bros. Thanks to the pernicious, insidious, and likeminded United Nations, his flaky pre-Columbian brand of eco-totalitarianism may be going global:

Bolivia will this month [present] a draft United Nations treaty giving "Mother Earth" the same rights as humans — having just passed a domestic law that does the same for bugs, trees and all other natural things in the South American country.

Stone Age Andean culture, represented by Historic First "Indigenous" President Morales (Bolivia's version of Barack Hussein Obama), allegedly views humans as equal to all other entities. As not even PETA's Ingrid Newkirk would be depraved enough to say, "A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy is a mosquito is a clot of crabgrass."

[T]he general structure is meant to mirror Bolivia's Law of the Rights of Mother Earth, which Bolivian President Evo Morales enacted in January.
That document speaks of the country's natural resources as "blessings," and grants the Earth a series of specific rights that include rights to life, water and clean air; the right to repair livelihoods affected by human activities; and the right to be free from pollution.
It also establishes a Ministry of Mother Earth, and provides the planet with an ombudsman whose job is to hear nature's complaints as voiced by activist and other groups, including the state.

George Orwell's Ministry of Love has met its match. A global bureaucracy enforcing the farcical rights of "Mother Earth" would have us living in dung huts — so long as the dung huts don't displace any anthills or weeds.

The application of the law appears destined to pose new challenges for companies operating in the country, which is rich in natural resources, including natural gas and lithium, but remains one of the poorest in Latin America.

Morales wants to use the UN to impose the moonbattery responsible for this senseless state of affairs on the rest of the world.

In case anyone has missed the connection between Mother Earth worship and communist oppression:

In a 2008 pamphlet his entourage distributed at the UN as he attended a summit there, 10 "commandments" are set out as Bolivia's plan to "save the planet" — beginning with the need "to end capitalism."

The UN had better hurry up with that document. I know a certain community organizer who must be itching to sign it.

Liberal Blog Declares That Men Have Abortions

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:03 AM

To get an idea of how profound the schism between liberalism and reality has become, readers are referred to Feministing, which shrieks that we must stop thinking of abortion as a women's issue:

Cause, the thing is, it's not just women that have abortions
Trans men have abortions. Gender queer people have abortions. Two spirit people have abortions. People who do not fit into the box of 'woman' have abortions.
This is the reality we live in, and the more we pretend otherwise, the more dangerous it is for other people, and the more they are excluded by the movement.

Whatever these weirdos live in, reality isn't the word for it.

Gender is this thing that we construct out of a million different characteristics. The way we hold our hands. The length of our hair. The shape of our face. What we wear. Our voices. But then, for some reason, when we got to the question of what is it really, we go to what lives between your legs. Even though that's not how we make gender and that's not how gender works. It's in that assumption that gender lives in our crotches, that we end up erasing the reality that men can have abortions, men can get pregnant and give birth.

Unfortunately it's painful when we give birth to unicorns. But it's worth it because they look so pretty with their paisley fur.

The technical term for Feministing's brand of moonbattery is psychosis.

Tea Party Banned in Michigan Town

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:49 AM

Better not to let anyone exercise their First Amendment rights than to let Tea Party radicals publicize dangerous thoughts regarding limited government — or so reason the authoritarian bureauweenies running Coldwater, Michigan:

A federal lawsuit claims a Branch County tea party group was denied the right to display banners and signs at a tea party rally at a public park in Coldwater because it was "too political" and "too controversial." The Coldwater City Council then passed a resolution banning all banners and signs in that park.
The Thomas More Law Center law firm filed its lawsuit last week in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan. Attorney Robert Muise of the Thomas More Law Center alleged that Coldwater City Manager Jeff Budd objected because the Common Sense Patriots of Branch County were "too political" and "too controversial." …
In a Nov. 2 memo to the City Council, Budd stated the "administrative headaches" of increased requests to have banners in the park led the city to either "allow all banners or no banners."

The Tea Party is a headache all right — the worst headache statist thugs have had since 1776. No amount of Advil will make it go away.

Anti-Homosexual Hate Crime at UNC Was Yet Another Hoax

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:49 AM

University of North Carolina freshman Quinn Matney made the news with claims that he was called a bad name and even burned with a piece of hot metal for being a homosexual. Like most outlandish hate crimes attributed to the enemies of political correctness, his story is fake:

A UNC-Chapel Hill freshman who told police he was attacked by a man who burned his hand and called him an anti-gay slur made a false report, the university says.
In a message just released to the campus community, Chancellor Holden Thorp says: "The Department of Public Safety has determined that the alleged aggravated assault reported to campus last night did not occur. That report, filed with campus police on April 5, was false. The University will not report it as a hate crime."

Like the Tawana Brawley hoax, it might have been true, supposedly, except that it wasn't.

"It is important to recognize that incidents of harassment do occur," Thorp continued. "When they do, we take them seriously. We strive to foster a welcoming, inclusive and safe [quack quack quack…]"

Since the inventor of the incident claimed to be assaulted for being a member of a supremely privileged group, the case was to be brought all the way to the federal government, amid ominous promises of draconian punishment. But having been revealed as yet another hoaxer, Matney will sink into obscurity with Tawana Brawley, Crystal Gail Mangum, Kerri Dunn, Leah Miller, Trinity International University, Ahmad Saad Nasim, Floyd Elliot, Sarah Marshak, Safia Jilani, et al.

McCain Backs Crony Capitalist Coyote Boondoggle

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:47 AM

So far there has been exactly one good thing about Barack Hussein Obama's election: at least John McCain isn't president. A tale of corrupt crony capitalism from his home state:

Taxes provided $346 million of the $455 million cost of the huge (up to 72,200 seats) retractable-roof NFL stadium where the Arizona Cardinals will play 10 times this season, if there is a season. (The NFL is having labor problems.) But Glendale (population 253,000) has a more immediate problem with its hockey team, the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes.
After the team entered bankruptcy in 2009, the NHL bought it for $140 million and has lost at least $30 million operating it. It might decamp to Winnipeg, Manitoba. This would enable Glendale, which spent $180 million on the hockey arena, to cut its losses. Glendale, however, not wanting its eight-year-old arena to sit vacant, wants to sell up to $116 million of municipal bonds so that it can give $100 million to a wealthy Chicago businessman to help him buy the team.
Furthermore, Glendale would pay the new owner an additional $97 million under a contract, awarded without competitive bidding, to manage the arena through the 2014 season.

Fortunately we have the Goldwater Institute, a think tank dedicated to the limited-government principles on which our country was founded, to defend the taxpayer from being bled dry on behalf of an unwatched hockey team with friends in high places. Noting that the Coyote shenanigans violate the Arizona constitution, it has threatened to bring suit.

The response from municipal Big Government:

So the city is threatening to sue the institute, which warned bond rating agencies and others about its possible constitutional suit. Glendale correctly says that the suit will add a risk premium to its cost of borrowing.
But before the institute announced its intentions, Moody's, the credit rating agency, responded to Glendale's idea of taking on another $116 million in debt by lowering the city's rating. Its debt is already triple the median for comparable cities. Darcy Olsen, the institute's president and CEO, notes that if questioning a government's behavior can generate "a retaliatory lawsuit by a legion of government attorneys, then journalists, bloggers and regular citizens across the state are all at risk."

Exactly. The idea is to intimidate the public into silently tolerating wasteful corruption.

McMaverick weighs in on the shameless looting of Glendale taxpayers:

John McCain, who holds the Senate seat once occupied by Barry Goldwater but does not hold Goldwater's views about governmental minimalism, calls the institute's actions "disgraceful" and "basically blackmailing": "It's not their role to decide whether the Coyotes should stay (here) or not."

Nothing grates on the ears like hearing a member of the corrupt crony capitalist establishment denouncing principled patriots as "disgraceful."

Put this on a national scale, replace the Coyotes with bailed-out leeches like GM and Goldman Sachs, and you have Obamunism — or as it might be called if McCain had prevailed, McCainunism.

Since he didn't prevail, we get to listen to these inspiring words:

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) said that "unless we enact draconian measures," America is headed for a "fiscal meltdown."
"We are at a critical juncture in American history that unless we enact draconian measures, then the results are very obvious, and that is a fiscal meltdown. No country can borrow 40 cents out of every dollar it spends — even the largest and most powerful nation in the world. No nation can continue on that track. So, tough medicine is required," McCain said during a press conference at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday.
McCain said the United States faces a fiscal situation similar to Greece, Spain and Ireland.

And Glendale, Arizona. Getting back to McStain's backyard:

Warren Meyer of calculates that Glendale's new plan would bring the city's spending to almost $400 million on a team valued at $134 million — a team that has lost money in each of its 15 years here.

Fiscal sanity starts at home.

Rid the GOP of RINOs or there isn't any point.

Moonbats Versus Countermoonbats in Chicago

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:34 PM

Excuse the foul language and general vileness toward the beginning. Moonbattery isn't pretty. Via Citizens for a Pro-Life Society:

Vocal, militant and angry pro-abortion and pro-gay demonstrators turned up to protest the Citizens for a Pro-Life Society evening of tribute to Joseph Scheidler, Saturday, April 2nd in Chicago.

Pro-life activist and former Benedictine monk Joseph Scheidler is a private citizen. I don't know what the moonbats mean by chanting that he has to go, but it sounds ominous given their exceedingly low regard for human life that they find inconvenient.

Although it's hard to tell with moonbats, I believe that's a male of the species that screams, "Be celibate if that's what you want but don't tell me how to use my c**t."

Any group that would use the word "choice" as an Orwellian euphemism for killing children who have no choice in the matter whatsoever has already lost the argument. That's why they have to rely on yelling.

For mind-bendingly outrageous hypocrisy, it will be hard to top the sign that accuses Scheidler of ending lives by opposing abortion.

Christian Haters Try to Burn Marble Statue

Posted by Dave Blount at 3:31 PM

Some advice for Catholics escaping oppression under communist tyranny — don't flee to moonbat- and Muslim-infested Minneapolis/St. Paul:

Tuan Pham says he was just looking for a peaceful place to put his Catholic-based prayer garden. He had a 7-foot Jesus statue custom made in his native Vietnam. He put it in his backyard, overlooking the Mississippi River and the St. Paul skyline.
Pham says he woke up Sunday morning to a wall of flames around his statue. …
Family members say someone took wood from Pham's pile and placed it at the base of the statue before lighting it on fire. "You can see evidence on the ground, there's an aerosol can," Pham's son-in-law Dao Phan said. …
"It pains me, it's very upsetting. This means a lot to him. This is where he finds joy and where he spends a lot of his time," Phan said about his retired father-in-law.
The statue took months to ship. It is a replica of a massive one Pham helped build more than 40 years ago in his hometown of Vung Tau, Vietnam. Pham says he was jailed for his catholic beliefs before he fled the country for Minnesota.

The vandals could have just waited for likeminded bureauweenies to do their job for them:

The statue was put in place last October and a month later, Phan says, the city received a complaint about it. The family requested a variance after officials found it was not the required 40 feet from the bluff line, but that request was denied by the city council last week.

The moonbats or Muslims behind the crime are no doubt surprised to have learned that marble doesn't burn.

Using the crime as a pretext, Christians have rioted, killing 23 innocent people and prompting the liberal media establishment to join David Petraeus in righteously denouncing the vandals. Just kidding, of course.

Now They're Coming for Chocolate Milk

Posted by Dave Blount at 1:48 PM

You can see why educrats have begun to forbid lunches brought from home. Parents might let their kids consume all manner of poisons — like chocolate milk:

It was once a staple of public school cafeterias that blended the indulgent and the nutritious, satisfying parents and children both. But chocolate milk is uncontroversial no more. Dozens of districts have demanded reformulations. Others have banned it outright.
At the center of these battles are complex public health calculations: Is it better to remove sugary chocolate flavorings at the risk that many students will skip milk altogether, missing out on crucial calcium and Vitamin D? …
When Fairfax County [VA] and D.C. schools banned chocolate milk last year from elementary lunch lines, officials heard not just from parents and students. They also received letters and petitions from a slew of nutritionists and influential special interest groups.

A food fascist dispenses with the argument that banning chocolate milk leads to children getting less of the nutrients they need:

"Trying to get students to consume calcium by drinking chocolate milk is like getting them to eat apples by serving them apple pie," said Ann Cooper, a leading advocate for healthy school lunches.

You wouldn't expect the authorities to allow your children to eat apple pie, would you?

Don't worry: our moonbat rulers will protect the children.

US Taxpayers Forced to Upgrade Mexican Trucks

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:47 AM

Let's see, what else can our rulers waste money on as they squabble over cutting pocket change from $zillion budgets and the economy hurtles toward inevitable collapse? Here's an idea: provide trucks with new exhaust systems — in Mexico.

State and federal agencies can't force vehicles manufactured and bought in Mexico to comply with U.S. emissions rules, even though the trucks cross into this country.
So the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality tried a different approach, offering to pay Mexican truck owners to replace old mufflers with new catalytic converters that will reduce harmful diesel emissions by up to 30 percent. The project in effect circumvents the more lax Mexican rules about exhaust systems.

The new exhaust systems cost $1,600 per truck, compliments of the EPA — i.e., you.

How nice for Mexicans that they no longer have to become colonists or kill their children to enjoy US taxpayer-funded largesse.

Here's another idea: why don't we fight pollution next by paying the communist Chinese not to make all the stuff we buy from them on credit? We don't have the money to pay them, but I'm sure they'll lend it to us — like they do for the foreign aide we give them.

US taxpayers will fix it right up.

Teachers Union Backs Cop Killer

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:04 AM

If their wanton destruction of the quality of education and their willingness to bankrupt state governments out of pathological greed aren't enough to convince you of the profound malignancy of teachers unions, maybe this will do the job:

Between negotiating for more benefits and teaching their students, the California Federation of Teachers has adopted a resolution of support for convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.
At the CFT's 2011 Convention in late March, the delegates passed 30 resolutions, from solidifying support for anti-bullying [usually a euphemism for homosexuality promotion] legislation to supporting transitional kindergarten. Among the resolutions largely pertaining to education and collective bargaining rights was Resolution 19 — to "Reaffirm support for death row journalist."
"Therefore, be it resolved, that the California Federation of Teachers reaffirm its support and demand that the courts consider the evidence of innocence of Mumia Abu-Jamal," the Committee Report reads.
Mumia Abu-Jamal was a former member of the Black Panthers who was found guilty of murdering Philadelphia police officer Daniel J. Faulkner during a routine traffic stop in 1981. Abu-Jamal was subsequently sentenced to death.

Appallingly, he is still alive 30 years later, recording college commencement speeches from his cell. NPR wanted him to contribute to "All Things Considered," but Bob Dole squashed that.

No serious person contests Abu-Jamal's guilt. As author Daniel Flynn reminds us,

"You have numerous eyewitnesses saying Mumia did it. You had ballistic evidence — Mumia's gun at the scene was consistent with the bullet used to kill Faulkner. Mumia admitted after the fact that he did it."

However, the question isn't whether he did it, but whether it should be a crime for a left-wing black guy to shoot a white cop in the back. After all, Barack Hussein Obama has been shooting our whole country in the back, and no one talks about putting him in jail.

Depravity + sheer evil = moonbattery.

J. Crew Contributes to Culture War

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:06 AM

Psychiatrist Keith Ablow doesn't much appreciate J. Crew's contribution to the Culture War:

A recent feature in J. Crew's online catalogue portrays designer Jenna Lyons painting her son Beckett's toe nails hot pink. The quote accompanying the image reads, "Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon." …
If you have no problem with the J. Crew ad, how about one in which a little boy models a sundress? What could possibly be the problem with that?
Well, how about the fact that encouraging the choosing of gender identity, rather than suggesting our children become comfortable with the ones that they got at birth, can throw our species into real psychological turmoil — not to mention crowding operating rooms with procedures to grotesquely amputate body parts? Why not make race the next frontier? What would be so wrong with people deciding to tattoo themselves dark brown and claim African-American heritage? Why not bleach the skin of others so they can playact as Caucasians?

It worked for Michael Jackson — sort of.

As always, the consequences of moonbat depravity are as pernicious as they are insidious:

Increasingly, girls show none of the reticence they once did to engage in early sexual relationships with boys. That may be a good thing from the standpoint of gender equality, but it could be a bad thing since there is no longer the same typically "feminine" brake on such behavior. Girls beat up other girls on YouTube. Young men primp and preen until their abdomens are washboards and their hair is perfect. And while that may seem like no big deal, it will be a very big deal if it turns out that neither gender is very comfortable anymore nurturing children above all else, and neither gender is motivated to rank creating a family above having great sex forever and neither gender is motivated to protect the nation by marching into combat against other men and risking their lives.
Maybe we'll all have shiny, colored lips, though, and pierced ears and perfect eyebrows and mommies who get applause from their J. Crew friends at the park for parading their sons through the streets in costume.

Our effete moonbat ruling class is remaking our society in its own image. If they succeed, it's fitting that their own god Darwin will prevent the fundamentally transformed America from existing for long.

Doing their part to make America worthy of its ruling class.

Wheels Continue to Fall Off at Government Motors

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:03 AM

There is one bright spot for Government Motors, 26% of whose stock is held by the Treasury Department. Sales of the Chevy Cruze have been strong enough to lift sales for the whole quasi-socialist operation:

March capped a successful quarter for General Motors in the United States. Retail sales surged 38 percent for its four brands, driven by demand for Chevrolet's all-new Cruze compact sedan.

But what's this?

Imagine turning your car's steering wheel, or giving it a gentle tug, and having it break away from the steering column. Now you're speeding along holding the suddenly useless wheel.
It sounds like a vision from a cartoon, or every driver's nightmare. And it happened to at least one driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze compact car last month, and General Motors Corp. is recalling 2,100 of the cars as a result.

Maybe our rulers should pass a law declaring that from now on steering wheels aren't allowed to come loose in the driver's hand. Or maybe we should add making cars to the long list of tasks Big Government cannot perform effectively.

Fundamental transformation, as promised.

Easter Eggs to Be Called Spring Spheres

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:12 AM

Make sure to revise your copy of the Newspeak dictionary so that you are not caught using incorrect terminology until the next official edition is published. As part of the ongoing campaign to eradicate even oblique references to Christianity from our culture, Easter eggs are henceforth to be referred to as spring spheres. From moonbatty Seattle:

[High school sophomore] Jessica, 16, told KIRO Radio's Dori Monson Show that a week before spring break, the students commit to a week-long community service project. She decided to volunteer in a third grade class at a public school, which she would like to remain nameless.
"At the end of the week I had an idea to fill little plastic eggs with treats and jelly beans and other candy, but I was kind of unsure how the teacher would feel about that," Jessica said. …
"I went to the teacher to get her approval and she wanted to ask the administration to see if it was okay," Jessica explained. "She said that I could do it as long as I called this treat 'spring spheres.' I couldn't call them Easter eggs."

The kids recognized them anyway.

"When I took them out of the bag, the teacher said, 'Oh look, spring spheres' and all the kids were like 'Wow, Easter eggs.' So they knew," Jessica said.

Not to worry, comrades. They're only in third grade; the State has plenty of time to reprogram them. Other local branches of Big Government are taking part too:

The city's parks department has removed Easter from all of its advertised egg hunts.

Next, the Easter Bunny will have his name changed to the Vernal Rodent.

Thrown in Jail for Denying Special Status to Homosexuals

Posted by Dave Blount at 2:08 PM

There's a price to be paid for obstructing the gay agenda. In the case of Scott Bloch, that price will be jail time:

A Bush administration official who came under criticism for refusing to enforce anti-discrimination policies protecting gay federal workers was sentenced on March 30 to one month in jail on a charge of criminal contempt of Congress.
Scott J. Bloch, who served as head of the U.S. Office of Special Council from 2004 to 2008, is appealing the sentence, which was handed down in Washington by U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Deborah Robinson. Robinson also sentenced him to one year of unsupervised probation and 200 hours of community service.

Under W, Bloch headed up an office for protecting other bureaucrats from what they call "discriminatory personnel practices" — that is, he was to enforce special treatment for special groups. Bloch held that homosexuals did not qualify for special treatment. The militant pervert lobby shrieked like an old lady with a mouse up her skirt until he was punished accordingly.

Even with moonbats running the Injustice Department, the prosecution doesn't think Bloch should have to do prison time. Kids Forbidden From Bringing Lunch to School

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:54 AM

First they use your money to provide government cheese. Then they force you to eat it.

At Little Village Academy, a Chicago public school,

students are not allowed to pack lunches from home. Unless they have a medical excuse, they must eat the food served in the cafeteria.
Principal Elsa Carmona said her intention is to protect students from their own unhealthful food choices.

It's a weighty job protecting people from their choices, but Big Government feels up to it. Carmona describes the ban as common.

A Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman said she could not say how many schools prohibit packed lunches and that decision is left to the judgment of the principals.
"While there is no formal policy, principals use common sense judgment based on their individual school environments," Monique Bond wrote in an email. "In this case, this principal is encouraging the healthier choices and attempting to make an impact that extends beyond the classroom."

You won't find a better argument for private school or homeschooling than government educrats attempting to make an impact that extends beyond the classroom.

Being government-issued, the food stinks.

At Little Village, most students must take the meals served in the cafeteria or go hungry or both. During a recent visit to the school, dozens of students took the lunch but threw most of it in the garbage uneaten. Though CPS has improved the nutritional quality of its meals this year, it also has seen a drop-off in meal participation among students, many of whom say the food tastes bad.
"Some of the kids don't like the food they give at our school for lunch or breakfast," said Little Village parent Erica Martinez. "So it would be a good idea if they could bring their lunch so they could at least eat something."

Public schools serve not only lunch but breakfast too. Maybe that's what has replaced discarded old-fashioned activities like teaching the three R's. Coming soon: government dinner.

The press dug up a parent who actually approves:

[P]arent Miguel Medina said he thinks the "no home lunch policy" is a good one. "The school food is very healthy," he said, "and when they bring the food from home, there is no control over the food."

Heaven forbidden there should be no control over food. As Rep. John Dingleberry (D-MI) revealed, controlling the people is what the government's ostensible concern with our health is all about.

Not all schools have progressed this far in their authoritarianism:

At Claremont Academy Elementary School on the South Side, officials allow packed lunches but confiscate any snacks loaded with sugar or salt.

Salt is an essential nutrient, but like CO2 it has been arbitrarily declared unholy according to the bizarre godless religion of our moonbat overlords.

If we're seeing this level of totalitarianism now, imagine how much micromanagement of our diets bureaucrats will insist on imposing when they've finished consolidating control of the healthcare system under ObamaCare.

Big Government knows best what your kids should eat.

SUNY Prof Teaches Illegal Squatting

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:21 AM

You can't say State University of New York students aren't learning any applicable skills:

An eccentric SUNY Purchase art professor held a "class" yesterday in SoHo where he instructed his hipster students on how to illegally squat in condos around the city.
Chris Robbins organized the seminar with the hopes that at least one or two of the 20 attendees will find an unoccupied apartment or condo and unsafely and illegally move in — without paying rent or taxes.

Maybe he's on to something. If Comrade Obama's jobless "recovery" lasts until after graduation, students won't need job skills, they'll need jobless skills.

Robbins explains his objectives:

"My biggest goal in this is to activate people with political beliefs who aren't actually engaging and get them to cross a boundary," said Robbins.
"Basically, we don't know what we are doing, but we have this impetus that we are going to make it happen."

So that's what they mean by "Yes We Can."

Next comes a course on Dumpster diving.

Bruce Springsteen Spews Redistributionist Moonbattery but Doesn't Want to Pay Taxes

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:21 AM

There's phony, there's really phony, and then there's Bruce Springsteen.

Springsteen has made $zillions combining drab pop music with a left-wing populist persona that he props up by poking his nose into political issues beyond his extremely limited comprehension. For example, he recently denounced Chris Christie for trying to get New Jersey's spending under control:

In a letter to his hometown newspaper, legendary rocker and Garden State icon Bruce Springsteen laments its recent report about how the state was slashing programs that help its poorest citizens while sparing more affluent residents from the budget axe.
"The article is one of the few that highlights the contradictions between a policy of large tax cuts, on the one hand, and cuts in services to those in the most dire conditions, on the other," Springsteen writes to the editors of the Asbury Park Press. "The cuts are eating away at the lower edges of the middle class, not just those already classified as in poverty, and are likely to continue to get worse over the next few years."

More economy-strangling taxes for employers (a.k.a. the rich), more free goodies for the deliberately cultivated parasite class. Sounds like a plan — but not if Springsteen has to help pay the bill:

Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen have been making hit music for years and it's no surprise that they've earned enough money to buy big mansions with acres of property, but what might surprise you is the huge tax breaks they, and others, are getting.
It turns out, as far as New Jersey tax collectors are concerned, that they are farmers.

That's because if you call yourself a farmer, you get a massive tax break.

Through a trust, Bruce Springsteen owns more than 200 acres in Colts Neck. The taxes for his house and three acres are more than $138,000. But because of the farm tax break, the tax bill on a little more than 200 additional acres is less than $5,000. Town officials say he has horses and an organic farmer working some of the land. A lawyer for the trust had no comment.
In another part of Monmouth County, Bon Jovi has an estate on the Navesink River. Taxes on the mansion and some property add up to $295,68 but his tax bill on an additional 6.85 acres is $104 because he raises honeybees.

Bon Jovi is moonbat too, by the way. But when it comes to liberal hypocrisy, the noisily Obamunist Springsteen is the Boss.

Hold your skull tight so that it doesn't explode; here comes some more moonbattery — the presumed purpose of the tax break:

[M]any say these tax breaks help preserve New Jersey open space and limit development.

Not all of New Jersey's economic problems are caused by pathologically greedy teachers unions and excessive taxation that drives the productive out of the state. Big Government taking upon itself the task of limiting development is a key reason we will leave to the next generation a poorer America than we inherited from our parents.

Spreading the wealth around is good for everybody — except the Boss.

Free US Money Shoveled at African Students

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:23 AM

It's nice to have a Kenyan in the White House — if you're another Kenyan. Residents of nearby Malawi also qualify for all sorts of pricey goodies that you pay for:

A group of African students whose college tuitions are being paid by the U.S. government … received a boost of additional funds to continue their educations — and an executive from the private contractor coordinating the program just happens to be the wife of a senior Obama administration official, WND has learned.
[…T]he U.S. Agency for International Development under the current initiative has already spent nearly $2.1 million to send 16 students from the southeast African nation of Malawi to colleges in their homeland as well as in the U.S. and Kenya.
Because the final "task order" of the contract is set to expire in May — and since USAID says it is not finished fully training the Malawian students — the agency has granted a $650,000 "bridge" contract to the Vermont-based organization World Learning.

This lucrative contract proves that it pays to be well connected.

World Learning's senior vice president for international development and exchange programs is Carol Jenkins. The group on its website touts that under Jenkins' leadership, "the unit has seen revenue increase by 14 percent with continued anticipated growth."

I anticipate growth too, despite the severity of our budget problems. Here's why:

Jenkins is the wife of Robert Jenkins, director of the USAID Office of Transition Initiatives within the agency's Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance.

A USAID document offers some idea of how much largesse our moonbat rulers are siphoning out of our pockets to shower upon the other side of the world.

"The U.S. government pays the tuition and room and board costs for the graduate program in Public and Maternal and Child Health MPH (Masters in Public Health) and the tuition at the Kenyan and Malawian Institutions," the document says. "In the U.S., the tuition is approximately $20,930 plus $4,830 for room and board. The U.S. government pays participants $600 a month as a maintenance allowance and pays the participants health insurance of $85 a month. …
"For Kenyan [college] participants, the U.S. government pays the graduate program tuition of $3,261 per semester and room and board of approximately $1,575 per semester," the document continues. "Participants also receive a stipend of approximately $441 per month as a maintenance allowance and $525 for health insurance. In Malawi, the U.S. government pays the tuition of $1,675 per term plus an additional $945 for room and board. Participants also receive a maintenance allowance of $300 per month."

But don't worry, some Americans are allowed aboard the gravy train too:

Separately, USAID last year sought to hire a privately contracted education adviser to deploy to Malawi. USAID created that position, which comes with an $85,000- $110,000 annual salary range, to help the government of Malawi address a number of chronic problems facing its public education system.

Meanwhile, Democrats fight like tigers over every penny of waste Republicans gather the courage to cut, and the economy staggers toward inevitable total collapse under the weight of the debt.

Homosexual Nudging for British 11-Year-Olds

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:13 AM

It had never occurred to me that 11-year-olds have "sexual orientations." But they'll need to come up with them, if they are to comply with the nudging inquiries of British educrats:

Children as young as 11 could soon be asked about their sexuality without their parents' consent, it has emerged.
Teachers, nurses and youth workers are being urged to set up pilot studies aimed at monitoring adolescent sexual orientation for the first time.
A report commissioned by the Government's equalities watchdog found that it was 'practically and ethically' possible to interview young children about their sexuality.

Parental consent is not deemed necessary.

The report for the much-criticised Equality and Human Rights Commission recommends that children should be asked if they are gay from the age of 11. A record should be kept of those unsure or 'questioning' their sexuality.

The purpose is to promote homosexuality by encouraging little kids too young to understand it to think of themselves as privileged deviants. According to the report,

"some young people begin to question their sexual orientation as early as age eight and may begin to identify as LGB (lesbian, gay, bisexual) from early adolescence."

Or at least they may with sufficient encouragement.

Obama's NAMBLA-associated Safe Schools Czar would no doubt approve.

There was a time when we expected public officials to defend children's innocence from predatory perverts. Now they are the predatory perverts.

Here she is on a topic abortion advocates should know well — sin:

It's a sin to let children live if they have been deemed likely to turn out in a way the ruling class doesn't like.

Why the Democrats Never Passed a Budget Last Year

Posted by Dave Blount at 2:45 PM

The Dems had overwhelming majorities in the House and Senate last year, in addition to control of the White House. Yet they never passed a budget. The reason — they just had too much on their plate:

The real reason is that even these arrogant plunderers didn't dare put their names to their profligacy during an election year. Not passing the budget allowed them to keep spending without taking any responsibility for how much of our money, our children's money, and our grandchildren's money is swirling down the toilet.

Every now and then they come up against the debt ceiling, which currently stands at a staggering $14.25 trillion. But Republicans can be counted on to roll over and let them raise it.

Given his radical background, some have suspected that Barack Hussein Obama's catastrophic performance is a result of his deliberate intention to destroy the country he was brought up to hate. Confirmed: Judge Who Blocked California's Defense of Marriage Is Homosexual

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Walker told reporters Wednesday that he never considered recusing himself from the case because he believes his sexual orientation was irrelevant in deciding the constitutionality of Proposition 8.

Walker's sexual affiliation was not exactly a secret.

Why should Walker have to recuse himself when thwarting the clear will of California voters? Louise Slaughter Escalates the Projection

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:00 AM

The projection and hypocrisy that typify the left have been taken to new extremes by the aptly named congresscritter Louise Slaughter (D-NY), who shrieks that Republicans have come to Congress "to kill women" by slowing down the firehouse of taxpayer money gushing into the highly profitable baby-killing industry.

"I went through this as co-chair of the arts caucus," Slaughter said. "In '94 people were elected simply to come here to kill the National Endowment for the Arts. Now they're here to kill women."
Slaughter was drawing a parallel between the Republican House majority elected in November 1994 and the Republican House majority elected in November 2010.
She made the remarks Wednesday on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., at a "Stand Up for Women's Health" rally sponsored by the National Organization for Women, NARAL and Planned Parenthood.

Despite being in the lucrative business of liquidating inconvenient children, Planned Parenthood rakes in over $363 million per year in public money, not because they need it, but because their obscene activities are regarded as holy rites by Democrats.

If you start from Planned Parenthood and head straight downward toward hell, you will soon reach NARAL, an organization devoted to extending legal abortion into infanticide by defending execution techniques like partial birth abortion. The line between extremely liberal and satanic is a fine one, but NARAL clearly crosses it.

As she babbled about killing women, it must not have occurred to Rep. Slaughter that half of the children these fiends kill would have grown up to be women.

Then she threw her hyperbolic hypocrisy into overdrive by comparing the good guys to Nazis:

"You are allowed to have an abortion [on the public dime] if you have been raped or it's a matter of incest," said Slaughter. "However, you have to keep a receipt. Did you know that? It's sort of like an old German Nazi movie. Show me your papers!"

Students of history will recall that Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger's ideology and objectives in promoting abortion influenced Hitler and were praised by him.

John Edwards Pules About Suicide

Posted by Dave Blount at 2:11 PM

If it were up to Democrats, ambulance-chasing con artist John Edwards (a.k.a. Silky Pony, a.k.a. the Breck Girl) would have been Vice President of the United States. Instead, he may soon find his way to where he belongs: prison. After living the high life on $zillions stolen from doctors through the bogus malpractice lawsuits his fellow Democrats facilitate in exchange for campaign kickbacks, Silky isn't liking his future prospects:

Disgraced politician John Edwards is said to be deeply depressed — to the point of being suicidal — over the prospect of a criminal trial that could end with him being jailed if found guilty.
The 57-year-old former Presidential candidate reportedly told a close friend: 'I won't go to jail. I'd kill myself first!'
He has lost 20lb in the last year and is a 'broken spirit,' reports the National Enquirer.

Friends report that the Breck Girl has been crying his eyes out and overindulging in alcohol in an attempt to escape his sordid reality. He could have spared himself from the blues had he been willing to wait until his wife had finished dying of cancer before sneaking off to start another family with the less than prepossessing Rielle Hunter. Attempts to cover up his shameful behavior with campaign money landed him in his current situation.

Let's hope the stint in the pen doesn't ruin his budding film career. Andrew Young, the creepy lackey who was paid to pretend to be the father of the Breck Girl's love child, has gotten ahold of a sex tape:

Hunter is suing Mr Young for the return of the tape that reportedly [features] Mr Edwards performing sex acts on her.
Mr Young's wife, Cheri, said on Oprah Winfrey's show last year: 'I won't give any fine details, but I'll tell you yes, he is naked.
'He is performing sexual acts. The woman is holding the camera. He is aware he is being taped.'
According to the Wall Street Journal Mr Young has described the tape as like 'watching a traffic pile-up occur in slow motion — repelling but also transfixing.'

The same could be said for watching Edwards crash and burn.

But you can't blame the guy for blubbering. Only little people should go to prison when they break the law, not important personages like John Edwards.

Maybe this will cheer him up — a momento of happier times, when his weightiest concern was not letting the wind disturb his $1,250 haircuts:

Banned in Boston: Soda Pop

In moonbat-infested Boston, bureauweenies have taken the next logical step beyond demonizing harmless soda pop. Inevitably, they are now banning it:

The drinks that will be banned include: non-diet sodas, pre-sweetened ice teas, refrigerated coffee drinks, energy drinks, juice drinks with added sugar, and sports drinks.

Get used to hearing more of this pretext for dictating even the most picayune aspects of our behavior as Big Government consolidates control of healthcare:

Dr. Barbara Ferrer, executive director of the Boston Public Health Commission, said that in the long term, the policy will cut health care costs.
"Economists estimate that medical costs for an obese patient are about 42 percent higher a year than for a patient with healthy weight," she said in a statement.

Long Delays for Surgery Under Britain's Socialized Medicine

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:29 AM

Bankruptcy isn't the only thing that awaits us if ObamaCare isn't repealed. Here's another look at our dystopian future from the moribund canary in the coalmine of collectivist moonbattery, formerly great Britain:

Surgeons say patients in some parts of England have spent months waiting in pain because of delayed operations or new restrictions on who qualifies for treatment.
In several areas routine surgery was put on hold for months, while in many others new thresholds for hip and knee replacements have been introduced.

Although hip and knee replacements are expensive, they are usually well worth it because of their effectiveness. According to Peter Kay of the British Orthopaedic Association, they actually save society money overall, presumably by curing the patients of their disability. He describes the government-imposed delays for these operations as "devastating and cruel," and offers this surprising (to bureaucrats) insight:

He says that simply delaying surgery by one means or another does not improve the outcome for patients as their condition can deteriorate.
"The double jeopardy is that patients wait longer in pain, and when they have the operation, the result might not have been as good as it otherwise would have been had they had it early. "

But people who would bury their countries in debt that it will take generations to repay aren't capable of grasping concepts like long-term benefit. They just want the numbers to come closer to adding up for the current budget.

A number of PCTs [primary care trusts] have been explicit about their decisions to put all routine operations on hold for several months up to April to help balance their budgets by the end of the financial year.

The bureaucrats aren't complete idiots. They just have different objectives. Healing patients is for doctors to worry about. The State only cares about statistics.

Putting routine operations on hold means that GPs [general practitioners] simply stop referring their patients for surgery. So although a patient might be waiting longer, this isn't recorded in the official waiting statistics.
Another way of adding invisible waiting time into the system is to implement stricter new criteria which have the effect of delaying the point when a patient can be referred for treatment. … They include introducing scoring systems for patients for pain or disability, or not allowing some obese patients to be referred for surgery until they have been on a weight loss programme.

Sure we'll give you the free healthcare you've paid through the nose for through taxes all your life. But first you have to live on lentils until you've dropped fifty pounds; then you'll get your urgently needed surgery.

Now for the punch line:

The coalition government has stopped performance managing the 18 week waiting time, although it remains a legal right under the NHS [National Health Service] constitution.

There are few constructive activities that can be performed more efficiently through government coercion than through economic freedom. Healthcare obviously isn't one of them.

Socialism isn't going to work any better over here.

Illegal Immigrants Make Heavy Use of Welfare Programs

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:07 AM

The one nice thing about the illegal aliens Big Government deliberately allows to swamp our country is that until pernicious politicians like Obama and McCain manage to ram another amnesty through, they can't collect welfare because they aren't US citizens. Or maybe I'm wrong:

Census Bureau data show that the share of immigrant-headed households (legal and illegal) with children (under age 18) using at least one welfare program continues to be very high both in Texas and the nation as a whole. This is partly due to the large share of immigrants with low levels of education and their resulting low incomes.

A report entitled "Welfare Use by Immigrant Households with Children: A Look at Cash, Medicaid, Housing, and Food Programs" is available at the Center for Immigration Studies. Among its horrific revelations:

• In 2009 (based on data collected in 2010), 57 percent of households headed by an immigrant (legal and illegal) with children (under 18) used at least one welfare program….
• Immigrant households' use of welfare tends to be much higher than natives for food assistance programs and Medicaid.
• A large share of the welfare used by immigrant households with children is received on behalf of their U.S.-born children, who are American citizens. But even households with children comprised entirely of immigrants (no U.S.-born children) still had a welfare use rate of 56 percent in 2009.
• Immigrant households with children used welfare programs at consistently higher rates than natives, even before the current recession.

One clue that what is happening to us is not immigration but colonization is that a large percentage of the unassimilating invaders come from one place: Mexico. Of households with children headed by colonists from Mexico, 75% collect welfare benefits.

Good news for a certain political party — these Undocumented Democrats will stay dependent on the public teat indefinitely:

• Welfare use tends to be high for both new arrivals and established residents. In 2009, 60 percent of households with children headed by an immigrant who arrived in 2000 or later used at least one welfare program; for households headed by immigrants who arrived before 2000 it was 55 percent.

As for the assumption that illegals aren't collecting welfare:

Although most new legal immigrants are barred from using some welfare for the first five years, this provision has only a modest impact on household use rates because most immigrants have been in the United States for longer than five years; the ban only applies to some programs; some states provide welfare to new immigrants with their own money; by becoming citizens immigrants become eligible for all welfare programs; and perhaps most importantly, the U.S.-born children of immigrants (including those born to illegal immigrants) are automatically awarded American citizenship and are therefore eligible for all welfare programs at birth.

Then of course there is the fraud that conspicuously characterizes all programs involving slow-witted bureaucrats handing out other people's money.

Illegal aliens are actually even more likely to collect welfare than the legal kind:

• We estimate that 52 percent of households with children headed by legal immigrants used at least one welfare program in 2009, compared to 71 percent for illegal immigrant households with children.

In the most appalling act of institutional treason history has ever witnessed, our rulers are actually paying foreigners to invade our territory and colonize America out of existence, with the goal of replacing it with a Third World hellhole that will gladly submit to socialism. For those responsible, it would be hard to imagine a punishment too harsh to be just.

Raising Red

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:16 AM

Now for an important public service announcement:

Raising Red PAC and Raising Red Action Fund launched Tuesday, April 5th at with the mission of raising money to support the Republican nominee and defeat President Obama in the 2012 presidential election.
Launched by the activist team of Charlie Smith, former College Republican National Committee President; Kellen Giuda, New York City Tea Party co-founder and former Tea Party Patriots Board of Directors member; and conservative Blogger John Hawkins, Raising Red PAC and Raising Red Action Fund were born from a need for an innovative and forward-thinking political operation focused on candidates that will solve the problems that have been passed on to the Millennial Generation by decades of irresponsible politicians.
Charlie Smith, founder of Raising Red and former College Republican National Committee President said, "Yesterday, President Obama launched his re-election campaign, we want him to know that the results of the 2010 election were no fluke. The American people are fed up with his big-government agenda, and we're not going to just sit around and watch while he drives this country into insolvency."
In a political environment dominated by social and online technology, vibrant citizen activism, and new changes in campaign finance law, Raising Red PAC is focused on empowering concerned Americans to support a Republican nominee that will defeat and replace President Obama in the 2012 election, one in which the president is expected to raise $1 billion for his re-election effort.
"Our generation, our entire country, cannot afford four more years of the Obama administration's debt-ridden agenda," said Kellen Giuda, NYC Tea Party co-founder. "After leading tea parties and tea party rallies across the country since 2009, it's clear that the time has come to channel that energy and take our country back. Raising Red gives us the tool to do that."

Donations go into escrow, so that whichever Republican emerges on top after the primaries will find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Obamunists have the big money, but patriots have the resolve. Raising Red gives us an opportunity to turn that resolve into action.

9/11 Memorial Update

It's been nearly a decade, let's see how the 9/11 memorial at Ground Zero is coming along:

Even if visitors have to go seven stories below street level to honor the remains of those murdered in the name of Islam, at least they will have easy access to the neighboring Ground Zero Mosque.

America's bitterest enemies are running the show, as we see once again.

Giants Fan Falls Victim to LA's Descent Into the Third World

Posted by Dave Blount at 1:46 PM

No aspect of our sickened society is going untouched by moonbattery and its deliberate byproduct multiculturalism — not even baseball:

Police are searching for suspects responsible for beating a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium after last week's opening game.
Bryan Stow, a 42-year-old paramedic and father of two from Santa Cruz, is showing signs of brain damage and remains in critical condition after the beating. He suffered a severe skull fracture and bad bruising to his brain's frontal lobes, said neurosurgeon Dr. Gabriel Zada.
At one point, doctors at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center had to remove the entire left side of his skull to ease pressure on his brain. The pressure is now normal but Stow remains in a coma from his injuries and from sedation to reduce his brain activity, Zada said.

Here's what happened per Fox News:

Stow was in a parking lot heading to a taxi stand after the Dodgers' 2-1 victory over the Giants on March 31 when two shaven-headed young men in Dodgers clothing began taunting and swearing at him and two other fans, who were all wearing Giants gear, police said.
Stow was punched in the back of the head. He fell down, bashing his head on the pavement, and was kicked before the attackers ran off.

And now, as Paul Harvey would have said, for the rest of the story. A reader comments on the report:

i am a lifelong dodger fan, but i won't go to anymore dodger game with my wife and kids because the make-up of the fan base has changed. the article doesn't mention it and, in fact, the author goes out of his way to not describe the perpetrators of this crime to two illegal alien, mexican, gang bangers.
go to any contest where there is a large amount of mexicans, and the deportment of the fans is a lot worse. i know that the white, liberal activist types and illegal aliens will say i am a racist and that is okay, but they have never been to a dodger game where vulgar language and rude behavior is common place, or to the l.a. coliseum for a soccer match where beer and other objects are thrown on opposing fans and drunk guys are pissing in the tunnels and fights are breaking out everywhere. …
you can call me a racist if you'd like, but i would invite you to wear a giants jersey and attend a dodgers game in the future and experience for yourselves of what it is i speak. put your white, liberal attitudes to the ultimate test, but i'd wear a helmet and a flak jacket if i were you, and leave your kids at home so they don't have to witness their hippie dad get beat up by a couple of mexicans.

Here's the closest the report comes to acknowledging that this wasn't a random act but an inevitable consequence of the general atmosphere:

"During the game, my wife received a text message from him … He basically said he was scared inside the stadium," [Stow's cousin] John Stow said, adding that his cousin did not usually make such comments lightly.

When you can't feel safe at family-friendly activities like baseball games in your own country, you know there is a problem.

But let's not single out Mexicans — or Los Angeles. The civility moonbattery will leave us with can also be found up in Giants Country.

Dodgers fans are changing.

Attacked for Opposing Obama in San Francisco

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:47 AM

San Franfreakshow may not be the healthiest place to publicly oppose the Great Uniter, otherwise known as the Moonbat Messiah:

A man who set up a table with political literature and a sign opposing President Barack Obama was attacked in San Francisco's North Panhandle neighborhood, police and witnesses said Tuesday. …
A man and woman approached the victim, tore the sign and shook the table, causing the political literature to fall to the ground.
The attackers also kicked the man in the hand….

The victim was evidently a kook too, but a follower of Lyndon LaRouche, as evidenced by a picture of Obama with a Hitler moustache, a signature of left-wing LaRouchazoids that the liberal "mainstream" media has tried to pin on the Tea Party.

Moonbats' artwork should stick to insulting Jesus Christ. That way they won't get assaulted.

Moonbat Conception of Border Fence

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:01 AM

Moonbats will never run short of goofy ways to waste your money. Berkeley Assistant Professor of Architecture Ron Rael doesn't like the partial wall that temporarily inconveniences some of the Third World hordes pouring over our southern border like a scene from The Camp of the Saints. He would probably prefer to tear it down altogether, but as a second choice, he would turn it into a 700-mile slice of moonbat utopia:

[Rael] has re-envisioned the wall as something like a town center, complete with infrastructure, social services, and recreational facilities. Among the stations he envisions along the wall are a volleyball court, a confessional, a lending library, a water catchment system, a wastewater treatment plant, a solar farm, and even a "burrito wall" featuring "a food cart inserted into the wall, allowing people from each side of the border to share a meal, chat and conduct business, all within full view of security." …
"Border Wall as Infrastructure" a proposal by Rael and a partner, Virginia San Fratello, was a finalist in the 2010 Working Public Architecture 2.0 Competition organized by UCLA's cityLAB.

Since the US government is going bankrupt, maybe he'd like to pay for it by taking up a collection in the faculty lounge. What am I saying? We can just borrow some more from the ChiComs.

Here's a better plan: replace it with a minefield.

Moonbat Tech: Woolen Coffins

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:00 AM

Where moonbats are concerned, nothing is sacred except moonbattery itself. This is why even the burial of the dead can be made into a mockery without disturbing the smug smiles on glassy-eyed liberal faces. The latest eco-fad — woolen coffins:

Thanks to a growing demand for green funerals in Britain, Hainsworth's Natural Legacy caskets — each woven from the fleece of three sheep and capable of holding 840 lb. (380 kg) — have begun to carve out a share of the U.K.'s coffin market….

The idea for woolen coffins was inspired by government's longstanding habit of intrusive meddling:

A marketing student who was interning for Adam Hainsworth discovered that in 1667, Parliament — hoping to bolster the textile industry — passed a law requiring all corpses be buried in a woolen shroud. Good idea, Hainsworth thought, though clearly in this day and age something sturdier would be required. So with the help of a funeral director he knew, he built a prototype casket — bulked up with recycled cardboard….

A farmer who uses wool waste for fertilizer provides an endorsement. In Hainsworth's words, wool "does rot down fairly well," just like the dear departed.

The point of this tasteless idiocy, as with all things green-washed, is parting fools from their money:

Retail prices for Hainsworth's woolen coffins range from $960 to $1,290, a bit more than the $800 average cost for a standard wooden coffin in Britain.

In addition to knitting woolen coffins, Hainsworth apparently holds séances:

Hainsworth is confident that strong word of mouth from satisfied customers will also help open the U.S. market to its fluffy creations.

Won't someone please think of the historically disadvantaged sheep, forced through animal oppression to surrender their wool to the dead?

Imagine if your grandma started knitting one of these.

Jimmy Carter Continues to Suck Up to Evil

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:50 AM

If we could survive Jimmy Carter as President, there's a chance we'll survive Barack Hussein Obama. For those who don't remember just what a catastrophic disgrace it was to have Carter in the White House, his recent visit to the hostile communist dictatorship in Cuba provides a reminder:

Beginning with a statement to the people of Cuba, he had nothing to say of the lack of freedom in Cuba. He made brief mention of his visit with American Alan Gross, who is being held in a Cuban jail for providing support for democracy activists in Cuba, but then immediately equated him with the so-called Cuban Five, who are in jail in the US for spying. Carter apparently sees no difference between an American who is working on a transparent U.S. government funded democracy project and guys spying for the Cuban dictatorship. Indeed, Carter referred to them as "the five Cuban patriots" and explained that he had met with their mothers and their wives. He never called Gross a patriot. He went on to make clear that he had privately petitioned both George W. Bush and Barack Obama to release these spies.
Fidel Castro, he told the Cuban people, "is my personal friend," and he complained that "some radical leaders in my country" don't want warm diplomatic relations between the two countries. When it comes to global warming, he praised Castro "as a promoter of this issue" but said that the US was clearly not doing enough. In short, Carter had nothing positive to say about the United States. (Even Barack Obama's United States!) Cuba, on the other hand, was a warm place with wise leaders.

Obama has managed to outdo even Carter in sheer awfulness as president. It's hard to imagine how he'll top him as ex-president. Although it's sickening even to think about it, the sooner he gets started, the better.

Congress May Cut Huge ObamaCare Slush Fund for Food Nazi Sermonizing

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:43 AM

If Republicans are serious about staving off economic collapse by cutting some of the fat out of the federal budget, there could be fewer better places to start than with the giant slush fund ObamaCare established for frivolous anti-obesity campaigns:

In a little-noticed hearing last Thursday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Health Subcommittee voted out legislation that would repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund that was created in the health care reform bill.
The fund is a permanently authorized and appropriated subsidy for the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) initiative (originally funded through the Recovery Act) that gives grants that directly financed anti-obesity campaigns and soda-tax efforts in New York City and elsewhere.

First the Dems pretended that stealing our money and using it to buy megaphones to scream in our ears about what we should stop eating would stimulate the economy. But ObamaCare gave them an even more lucrative way to fund their unwelcome advice:

The legislation authorizes $500 million for fiscal year (FY) 2010, then $1 billion by FY 2012, $1.5 billion in 2013, and finally, $2 billion from 2015 and "each fiscal year thereafter".
That eventual $2 billion in taxpayer money [per year] would be controlled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

If past conduct is any indication, this unaffordable fortune will not be spent responsibly:

[T]he CDC was also coming dangerously close to violating federal law by using taxpayer money to lobby for policy changes through the CPPW.

This lobbying has taken the form of demanding higher taxes on demonized "sugary drinks," promoting bans on affordable restaurants, and pushing for still higher cigarette taxes.

The federal government's authority to use our money to preach at us about healthy habits will probably be found in the Constitution somewhere near the right to kill inconvenient babies.

Who knows what other expensive surprises we'll find in ObamaCare, as people finally find time to read and decipher a bill that was passed a year ago.

The worst waste is yet to come. Via Questions and Observations.

Obama's Billy

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:20 AM

If Barack Hussein Obama is like Jimmy Carter except 100 times worse, who would be like Billy Carter except 100 times worse? The answer: Samson Obama. Here's a 2009 story that for some reason never generated much interest in the US obamamania media:

BARACK OBAMA's half-brother has been refused entry to Britain after reportedly being accused of an attempted sex attack on a 13-year-old girl on his last visit.
Samson Obama, who runs a mobile phone shop in Nairobi in Kenya, was on his way to the president's inauguration in January when he tried to stop over in Britain to visit relatives. But he was turned away by immigration officers who declined to issue a visa on the grounds of deception. …
Details on the database suggested that he was the same man who had been arrested by police in Berkshire after approaching a group of young girls, including a 13 year-old, and allegedly trying to sexually assault one of them, the News of the World reported.
He then followed the girls into a cafe where he became aggressive and was asked to leave by the owner. Police were called and Samson was arrested. He reportedly gave officers false identification details and supplied his mother's address in Bracknell.

This is why he was denied the visa, not because of the attempted rape, which was no doubt just a quaint Muslim expression of multiculturalism.

[A] Home Office source said: "The individual applied for a visa which we refused. We considered that to issue a visa in this situation would not be conducive to the public good. He was refused a visa on deception grounds."

At least Samson didn't give them a Connecticut Social Security number.

Don't worry on Samson's account. If Britain hasn't let him in the country yet, I'm sure it will before it allows in Michael Savage.

Time Magazine Moonbat Explains Why Koran Is More Sacred Than Bible

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:19 AM

According to the liberal creed of moral relativism, all religions are the same, except that Christianity is bad because of the Crusades, and Islam is good because Arabs have slightly darker skin. Also, it's okay to burn Bibles, but burning the Koran is an affront to God. Time Magazine, the liberal establishment's outpost in the dentist's office, explains through "World Editor" Bobby Gauche to Hardball bench player Chuck Clod:

GHOSH: The thing to keep in mind that's very important here is that the Koran to Muslims, it is not — it is not the same as the Bible to Christians. The Bible is a book written by men. It is acknowledged by Christians that it is written by men. It's the story of Jesus.
TODD: Yes.
GHOSH: But the Koran, if you are a believer, if you're a Muslim, the Koran is directly the word of God, not written by man. It is transcribed, is directly the word of God. That makes it sacred in a way that it's hard to understand if you're not Muslim. So the act of burning a Koran is much more — potentially much, much more inflammatory than —
TODD: Directly attacking — directly attacking God.
GHOSH: — than if you were to burn a — burn a Bible.
TODD: Directly attacking God.

No doubt that received a hearty "Amen!" from the dhimmified moonbats in MSNBC's odious audience.

Hopey Change and "fundamental transformation" aside, this is still America. We can burn any book we like — even the one book our liberal overlords least want us to burn. If Muslims don't use it as a pretext to murder people, they'll find some other pretext, because violent intimidation is the only thing that keeps their evil cult alive.

Bobby Gauche lays down the law for eagerly compliant dhimmis.

Most US Deaths in Afghanistan Under President Peace Prize's Watch

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:21 AM

Here's an interesting fact: the majority of US deaths in the decade-long war in Afghanistan have occurred in the two years since the Moonbat Messiah's Ascension to the White House.

Of the 858 U.S. deaths since Obama's inauguration, 791 have been combat-related. This means that for the 1,241 combat-related deaths that occurred since the Afghanistan war began in October 2001, about 64 percent happened in the two years since Obama took office.
Last year was the deadliest for U.S. forces in Afghanistan, with 497 combat and non-combat fatalities. Improvised explosive devices (IEDs), or homemade bombs, continue to be the number one killer of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.

Thanks to absurd rules of engagement and a military brass consisting not of soldiers but of dhimmified politicians, there is no chance of a victorious resolution. Americans have been dying in Afghanistan for one reason: the handlers of our farcical Commander in Chief think it would hurt him with independent voters if he brought them home.

What of all those peacenik promises we heard from the Nobel Laureate during his last campaign?

The Obama administration has said it is committed to having Afghan forces in the lead of their own security by 2014 and has added that it will maintain a long-term relationship with Afghanistan. … Nevertheless, Gen. Petraeus and a top-Pentagon official have indicated that they would be open to maintaining jointly-operated military bases in Afghanistan beyond 2014.

That is, the war in Afghanistan will go on forever. It has become a federal program and is therefore immortal — at least until the USA declares bankruptcy.

The next time a terror attack is launched from some Stone Age Islamic backwater, we'll know what to do. Rather than waste years, billions of dollars, and hundreds of precious American lives trying to civilize corrupt savages, hopefully we will have the resolve to respond appropriately by nuking it into a radioactive graveyard.

NY Times Discovers That Homosexuality Leads to Bleak Future

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:12 AM

You can always count on the New York Times to break big surprises. Who would have guessed that the depraved and degenerate homosexual lifestyle political correctness requires us to revere is bad for the health?

Older lesbian, gay and bisexual adults in California are more likely to suffer from chronic physical and mental health problems than their heterosexual counterparts, a new analysis has found. They also are less likely to have live-in partners or adult children who can help care for them. …
Older gay and bisexual men — ages 50 to 70 — reported higher rates of high blood pressure, diabetes and physical disability than similar heterosexual men, according to the researchers. Older gay and bisexual men also were 45 percent more likely to report symptoms of psychological distress and 50 percent more likely to rate their health as fair or poor. In addition, one in five gay men in California was living with H.I.V. infection, the researchers found.
Yet half of California's older gay and bisexual men lived alone, compared with 13.4 percent of older heterosexual men.
Older lesbian and bisexual women experienced similar rates of diabetes and hypertension compared with straight women of their age, but reported significantly more physical disabilities and psychological distress and were 26 percent more likely to say their health was fair or poor.

The old-fashioned might imagine the solution to include our rulers no longer encouraging homosexuality through schools and the media. But as government consolidates control of the healthcare system, every crisis becomes opportunity — to spend more of our money.

Step 1: Declare the situation to be a healthcare "disparity"; i.e., a health-related situation alleged to disfavor a privileged special interest group.

Steven P. Wallace, associate director of the U.C.L.A. Center for Health Policy Research and lead author of the brief, said it was important to raise awareness of these disparities in the gay and lesbian community and among the organizations that provide services for seniors.

Step 2: Break out the checkbook.

Next the NY Times will discover that AIDS can be bad for you.

Border Strategy: Stop Arresting Invaders

Posted by Dave Blount at 2:06 PM

Congratulations to Comrade Obama and Janet Napolitano on finding a way to cut down the number of illegal aliens caught invading our country from Mexico without reducing the growing underclass that Democrats are counting on for future votes. The genius of the strategy lies in its simplicity:

An Arizona sheriff says U.S. Border Patrol officials have repeatedly told him they have been ordered to reduce — at times even stop — arrests of illegal immigrants caught trying to cross the U.S. border.
Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever told that a supervisor with the U.S. Border Patrol told him as recently as this month that the federal agency's office on Arizona's southern border was under orders to keep apprehension numbers down during specific reporting time periods.
"The senior supervisor agent is telling me about how their mission is now to scare people back," Dever said in an interview with "He said, 'I had to go back to my guys and tell them not to catch anybody, that their job is to chase people away. … They were not to catch anyone, arrest anyone. Their job was to set up posture, to intimidate people, to get them to go back."

With Obummer/Incompetano in charge of national security, American's enemies are anything but intimidated. But so long as a lower number of arrests can be used to create a deceptive appearance that the border is under control, mission accomplished.

If only they would use this tactic to fight tax evasion.

NYC Department of Health Explores Cutting Edge of Soft Tyranny

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:50 AM

To get an idea of what's coming down on us next from our liberal overlords, look at what bureaucrats impose at their own offices.

New York City Health Department employees have been issued new workplace guidelines that forbid eavesdropping, talking too loud, "noticeable odors" (i.e., perfume, cologne, scented deodorant), and "personal items that may be offensive" (i.e., most anything). As for food:

Employees also got a bright-colored brochure stipulating what can and can't be served at meetings and parties.
Tap water is a menu must when food or drinks are served. Other beverages must be less than 25 calories per 8 ounces.
"Cut muffins and bagels into halves or quarters, or order mini sizes. Offer thinly-sliced, whole-grain bread," the brochure states.
Deep-fried foods are an absolute no-no and "cannot be served."

Lest anyone think these people have a stick where the sun won't shine on it:

For celebrations, cake and air-popped popcorn — "popped at the party and served in brown paper lunch bags" — are allowed.
But when a "celebration cake" is served, cookies can't be offered.

One employee expressed surprise at the picayune detail of the regulations.

"This seems like micromanaging," she said.

She ought to check her own job description. Senseless micromanaging is what useless bureauweenies pay themselves with our money to do.

Who cares what irritating restrictions these termites impose on each other? We all should, because they will be imposed on the rest of us next — for our own good, of course.

AD reports this "fantasy car" was only possible due to $529 million in "stimulus money" courtesy of the Obama administration and US taxpayers.

While Dhimmis Cower, Artists Boldly Spit at Jesus

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:16 AM

As left-wing Senators like Harry Reid (D-NV) and Lindsey Graham (RINO-SC) call for rescinding the First Amendment lest Americans say anything that displeases Muslims, this is how Christianity is treated by the liberal arts community:

Somehow I doubt Christians will be cutting off any heads over the tasteless insults above, which were part of the recent Jesus Is Coming exhibit at the R & R Gallery in Los Angeles.

Among the differences between displaying this trash and burning a Koran is that Christianity can be insulted without inspiring its followers to cut off innocent people's heads. In a world run by oily cowards like Reid and Graham, the insult that is used as a pretext for psychotic violence is the one that is condemned by the government, while the sort of rubbish you see above has been coercively subsidized with your tax dollar.

Next Muslims would declare that they'll be "offended" if we don't turn over all our money to the Middle East — except that we're already doing that, with extravagant foreign aid we can't afford and by tolerating a government that won't let us drill our own oil.

First as Tragedy, Second as Farce

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:09 AM

As liberals took unseemly pleasure in reminding us after 9/11, we supported the Islamic militants who went on to wage a terror war against us when they were fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. But back in the 1980s, we didn't know these people were our mortal enemies. Now even the State Department knows it. Yet we read this:

DARNA, Libya — Two former Afghan Mujahedeen and a six-year detainee at Guantanamo Bay have stepped to the fore of this city's military campaign, training new recruits for the front and to protect the city from infiltrators loyal to Col. Moammar Gadhafi.
The presence of Islamists like these amid the opposition has raised concerns, among some fellow rebels as well as their Western allies, that the goal of some Libyan fighters in battling Col. Gadhafi is to propagate Islamist extremism.
Abdel Hakim al-Hasady, an influential Islamic preacher and high-school teacher who spent five years at a training camp in eastern Afghanistan, oversees the recruitment, training and deployment of about 300 rebel fighters from Darna.
Mr. Hasady's field commander on the front lines is Salah al-Barrani, a former fighter from the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, or LIFG, which was formed in the 1990s by Libyan mujahedeen returning home after helping to drive the Soviets from Afghanistan and dedicated to ousting Mr. Gadhafi from power.

Osama bin Laden had a similar resume. Another beneficiary of our unexplained military intervention actually worked for bin Laden:

Sufyan Ben Qumu, a Libyan army veteran who worked for Osama bin Laden's holding company in Sudan and later for an al Qaeda-linked charity in Afghanistan, is training many of the city's rebel recruits.
Both Messrs. Hasady and Ben Qumu were picked up by Pakistani authorities after the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and were turned over to the U.S. Mr. Hasady was released to Libyan custody two months later. Mr. Ben Qumu spent six years at Guantanamo Bay before he was turned over to Libyan custody in 2007.
They were both released from Libyan prisons in 2008 as part of a reconciliation with Islamists in Libya.

A worst-of-the-worst Gitmo terrorist becomes a US ally. Obama promised a fundamental transformation and that's what we're getting. Kaddafi, in contrast, hasn't given us any trouble for decades.

This is why in the past you didn't get to be president unless the public had reason to believe you meant America well.

Who are they going to be dying for?

ObamaCare Redistributes Our Wealth to Obama's Deep-Pocketed Backers

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:06 AM

In addition to the general purpose of giving federal bureaucrats more control over the life and death of every American, ObamaCare also advances more specific objectives — such as spreading the wealth around from taxpayers to the unions and crony capitalists who finance Obama's campaigns:

Facing questions from both parties in the Congress, the Obama Administration has now revealed how it has spent over $1.7 billion on part of the Obama health law, known as the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program.
This plan is intended to help companies pay the cost of health care for their early retirees, but lawmakers say it is wrongly benefiting companies like AT&T and General Electric, who have billions in profits on their bottom lines.

The list of beneficiaries of Comrade Obama's largesse goes on for miles, but I'm pretty sure you won't find your name on it. Unsurprisingly a union tops it, with a massive payoff of $206,798,086 going to the UAW. General Electric, which does not pay taxes, pulls in $36,607,818. Government Motors, which doesn't pay taxes either, makes $19,002,669.

As Jimmie Bise notes at Hot Air,

Companies now have a crystal-clear example that if they pony up a few million dollars to Washington politicians, they can expect to see their money returned to them multiplied many times. Most of us who have watched Washington politics know this has been true for a while but I can't recall a time when our government was this blatant about paying back its corporate and union supporters. If ever there was a time for the taxpayers to push back hard against the rent-seeking and paybacks, it's now.

Obamunism is the corruption implicit in hypertrophied government taken to its logical conclusion. Either we reclaim our country and our principles, or we let both continue to rot until Barack Hussein Obama is nothing less than what we deserve for a president.

Commander in Chief Barry Leads Troops in Libya

At least this would make our liberal conception of a Commander in Chief less likely to launch wars unless someone knows what the point is.

The Source of Comrade Obama's Largesse

Posted by Dave Blount at 4:52 PM

Where does all the money come from that Comrade Obama has been flinging to the four winds? According to his base, the answer is simple: who cares?

Once we have morally degenerated to the point that people don't care where the free money comes from, so long as they get their share, Obamunism becomes inevitable. So does collapse.

Moonbat Rep. Jim McDermott Sneezes at Constitution

Posted by Dave Blount at 6:14 PM

To judge by Jim McDermott's tone of voice, not even expecting them to read the 1,000+ page bills they ram through any which way they can could be as absurd as expecting socialist I mean Democrat congresscritters to read the Constitution they so openly despise:

The "silly things" he refers to are probably admittedly feeble Republican attempts to fend off the economic collapse that McDermott, Obama, et al. are doing everything in their power to accelerate.

NYU Celebrates April Fools Day

Posted by Dave Blount at 1:03 PM

Where academia is concerned, every day is a day for fools, so there's nothing special about April 1. At New York University:

On April Fool's Day, Stalinist supporters will be speaking at NYU. Seriously, I'm not joking.
The six-hour conference "Academic Freedom in the 1960s" is set to take place at 1 Washington Mews from 12 to 6 p.m. The theme of the event will focus on education, yet a quick background check on the venue's stars is quite revealing.
For starters, Ellen Schrecker, a Yeshiva University Professor and author of "The Lost Souls of Higher Education," will deliver the keynote address. Ms. Schrecker has written that guilty Soviet spies in the 1950s should have been excused for their crimes because they "did not subscribe to traditional forms of patriotism."

Vladimir Lenin said,

"Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted."

Since childhood extends well into the 20s now, NYU is doing his work. Coincidentally, four years is how long it normally takes to get a bachelors degree.

Socialized Medicine Bureaucrat Dies After Waiting 9 Months for Operation

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:27 AM

Socialized medicine occasionally prescribes a bitter dose of poetic justice:

A former NHS director died after waiting for nine months for an operation — at her own hospital.
Margaret Hutchon, a former mayor, had been waiting since last June for a follow-up stomach operation at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex.
But her appointments to go under the knife were cancelled four times and she barely regained consciousness after finally having surgery.
Her devastated husband, Jim, is now demanding answers from Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust — the organisation where his wife had served as a non-executive member of the board of directors.
He said: 'I don't really know why she died. I did not get a reason from the hospital. We all want to know for closure. She got weaker and weaker as she waited and operations were put off.'

What did he expect from government, straight answers and accountability?

Mrs Hutchon was well known and respected after serving in local government for the past 30 years and she became mayor of Chelmsford in 2006.

You would think that at least bureauweenies will still be able to get decent healthcare, even after ObamaCare finishes congealing. But just as a rising tide of freedom lifts all boats, when liberty ebbs, every last one of us ends up on the rocks.

American Soldiers Forced to Wear Hijabs

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:56 AM

To judge by this picture, our various wars in the Middle East are not going well:

From the Daily Caller:

American female soldiers stationed in Afghanistan are being encouraged to wear a Muslim headscarf when interacting with civilians. But some question whether the practice constitutes cultural sensitivity or a form of appeasement that is degrading to U.S. soldiers.

What does "encouraged" mean in this context? It means commanded.

Major Kyndra Rotunda, executive director of the Military Law and Policy Institute and AMVETS Legal Clinic, told The Daily Caller that while the women are not being ordered to wear the head scarf, encouragement is tantamount to a demand.

This sort of foolishness has been imposed before:

Retired Col. Martha McSally, whose grievance about being forced to wear the Muslim abaya while stationed in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s resulted in 2002 legislation outlawing the practice of making female soldiers wear Muslim religious garb in Saudi Arabia, told The Daily Caller that the sanctity of the uniform should not be sullied with outside accessories like the hijab.
"Another thing that makes this inappropriate is that they are wearing it with their uniform," she said. "All the services have several-hundred-page regulations about what is appropriate and is not appropriate to wear with the uniform, and we have very strict guidelines … You are representing the United States government. You are wearing the U.S. military uniform, and it confuses what you are representing when you add this to the uniform."

Not to mention that hijabs obstruct peripheral vision and are somewhat less effective at stopping bullets and shrapnel than Kevlar helmets. But for the politicians running the military, the important thing is to obsequiously pander to Islamic practices, even those that represent the subjugation of women.

Get used to the look. If we don't start taking our own side in this fight, it will be catching on closer to home.

ACLU Defends Freedom of Religion

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:17 AM

When does the ACLU not want to stamp out religion? When the religion is any other than Christianity of course:

The American Civil Liberties Union has sued the Livingston Parish School Board on behalf of a student suspended earlier this month for allegedly violating the district's dress code policy by having long hair. …
The school system's dress code policy violates Seth Chaisson's First Amendment rights to free expression of religion; his Fourteenth Amendment rights to due process; and Louisiana's Preservation of Religious Freedom Act, the lawsuit says.
Chaisson is a member of the United Houma Nation, a Native American group recognized by Louisiana but not the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, the lawsuit says.

Seth isn't the kind of Indian likely to be a Sikh, so it's not clear what religion he allegedly practices that requires him not to get a haircut. The important thing is that it isn't Christianity, therefore he's special and doesn't have to abide by rules.

No no no, not one of those Indians.

We May Soon Be Bombing Both Sides in Libya

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:15 AM

We may have an explanation for Comrade Obama's inscrutable behavior in Libya. There's no need to envision a complex, SPECTRE-esque international conspiracy of the sort Glenn Beck is often on the verge of revealing, when our foreign policy is better explained by a single word: incompetence.

As NATO takes over control of airstrikes in Libya, and the Obama administration considers new steps to tip the balance of power there, the coalition has told the rebels that if they endanger civilians, they will not be shielded from possible bombardment by NATO planes and missiles, just as the government's forces have been punished.

That is, we may soon be bombing both sides. Admittedly, both sides deserve it, but then how many in the Middle East outside of Israel don't?

The warnings, and intense consultations within the NATO-led coalition over its rules for attacking anyone who endangers innocent civilians, come at a time when the civil war in Libya is becoming ever more chaotic, and the battle lines ever less distinct.

Irregular troops, including civilians and driving around in civilian vehicles, have been fighting on both sides. With no ground intelligence, how is NATO — i.e., US Armed Forces — supposed to know who to waste extravagantly expensive cruise missiles on?

Also adding to the chaos is that we have no coherent objectives and don't even know what we're doing over there.

The deliberations about where to draw the line, going on at the highest levels of allied nations and among senior officials across the Obama administration, show how an intervention to stop a potential massacre is evolving into a much more complex, and perhaps open-ended, role in policing the Libyan chaos.

"Open-ended" means it's time for libs to dust off a word they used to love: quagmire.

David Glazier, a professor of national security law at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, sums up the situation:

"This is all poorly defined. It really is all about politics…"

Maybe making a left-wing community organizer Commander in Chief of the military because it made liberals feel good about themselves to vote for the black guy with a name like a terrorist wasn't such a good idea after all.

Injustice Department Clears Itself on Black Panthers Outrage

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:14 AM

Great news: having looked into its appalling dismissal of the open and shut case of voter intimidation against New Black Panther activists, the Justice Department has cleared itself of any wrongdoing. Despite appearances, this has nothing to do with the DOJ's policy of never prosecuting civil rights cases if the defendant is Caucasian.

It's official:

The Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has concluded an investigation finding that politics played no role in the handling of the New Black Panther Party case, which sparked a racially charged political fight.

Yet strangely enough some people aren't satisfied.

In a statement, [Rep. Lamar] Smith [R-TX], who chairs the House Judiciary Committee and is expected to hold hearings on whether the department is politicized, said the review — which was limited to the actions of attorneys in the case — "did not address the Civil Rights Division's misguided policy of using racial considerations when determining whether to enforce voting rights laws. The Division should protect the voting rights of all Americans, regardless of race, gender, religion or political affiliation."
Michael Yaki, a former liberal member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights whose reappointment is awaiting congressional approval, disagreed. The department was "vindicated" by the report, he said.

Just in case that doesn't settle the matter,

An investigation by Justice's inspector general is ongoing.

Next, the White House will conduct an investigation and clear itself of gross incompetence.

As Bill Ayers would say, "Guilty as sin, free as a bird."
