Morning Briefs for Thor's Day Item #1: Obama Better Sue Rhode Island, Too
Posted by Gregory of Yardale at July 8, 2010 3:42 AM
When police pull someone over in Rhode Island and have reasonable cause to believe he's an illegal alien, they check his immigration status. The policy is virtually identical to the Arizona law, and yet the Justice Department is not suing to stop it. What gives? Is the Rhode Island program run by the Black Panthers or something?
For that matter, I haven't heard of any boycotts targeting Rhode Island either. So why is Arizona being singled out? Here's a theory: Maybe it's because Arizona seems serious about enforcing it:
(Eric) Holder is worried that trained and knowledgeable local cops will actually prove that the law is enforceable, blowing his boss's cover. Remember President Barack Obama's claim last week that our borders are "just too vast" for us to secure them through enforcement, with fences and border patrols?
Couple the possibility of blowing away the myth that immigration law is unenforceable with the Democrats desperate need to mobilize Hispanic voters for the mid-terms, and you can understand why Bammy is hellbent on pursuing this crazy lawsuit.
PS: California also has a law requiring law enforcement to check the status of suspected illegal aliens.
