Obama's BFF Prepares to Impose Prohibition
Posted by Gregory of Yardale at June 15, 2010 5:30 AM
Hugo Chavez thinks his subjects drink too much. And so, in true progressive fashion, he has ordered a military crackdown on liquor stores and threatened to nationalize Venezuela's brewing industry.
President Hugo Chavez says he wants Venezuelans to stop drinking so much alcohol, and he has ordered the military to crack down on businesses selling beer on the streets or after legal hours.
Venezuelans' taste for beer and Scotch whisky is an irritation to the leftist president, and he raised liquor and cigarette taxes three years ago while calling for similar measures _ to little effect.
Chavez says he is leading the country toward socialism and the transition requires a moral crusade to change Venezuelans' values.
Chavez has ordered the expropriation of some of (Venezuela's largest brewery) Polar's warehouses, and has warned he could decide to take over more of the company. If the government did take over the Polar brewery, it would be shut down, Chavez has warned.
Gee, I thought only right-wing Christian conservatives were out to legislate morality. It will be interesting to see this latest action rationalized by the like of Oliver Stone, Sean Penn, Danny Glover, and other cool, famous people who adore Hugo Chavez.
Also, some of Obama's mewling fanboys think it's unfair to imply that Obama and Chavez are best buddies. My response, a picture is worth a thousand words.

You don't exactly see Bammy greeting the Prime Minister of Israel or the CEO of BP with a smile and a fist-bump.
