The Progressive Left Position on Illegal Immigration as I Understand It

Based on the Progressive Left's hysterical and histrionic response to Arizona's new immigration law... which only repeats Federal law at the state level and allows the police to check the immigration status of people they have reasonable cause to suspect may be in the country illegally... it is clear the real position of the Progressive Left and the Democrat Party on illegal immigration is as follows:

Once an illegal alien makes it across our border, no one is ever allowed to question his immigration status.

Tell me where I'm wrong on this.
