Profiles in Countermoonbattery: Daniel McCool

When this nation of equal opportunity under the law becomes a place where minority rights trump equal treatment for all, its easy to see why some folks get fed up and try to push back.

Oh, he knew it would cause a fuss. But Harris County Deputy Daniel McCool said no one else is standing up for equality of opportunity in local law enforcement. So, two months ago he founded the Caucasian Law Enforcement Association.

The association is open to officers of any racial or ethnic group and from any law enforcement agency in Texas. So, what's the point?

McCool said the organization grew out of his skepticism about the integrity of the hiring practices of Sheriff Adrian Garcia. McCool has no evidence of wrongdoing, but said he believes some employees have been hired or received plum assignments "just because (they) know somebody or just because of an affirmative-action-type decision."

If you think that this is just one more bit of evidence that RACISM! runs rampant among whites in the Age of Obama, think again. The first member of the association was an Hispanic female officer.

"There are several hundred groups in the state of Texas that have their name tied to either a heritage or ethnic group to ensure fair representation. Ours is the same," he said.

He's getting some grief from the County Commission, which is reviewing his request to start the option of automatic payroll deductions for association members. His is not a white supremacist's organization, but one that poses a lot of trouble for affirmative-action holdouts from civil rights days who ultimately aim to make the "average American" a second-class citizen. Maybe sometime in this nation, equal rights will really truly mean equal rights for all.
