Scott Brown's America

Posted by Gregory of Yardale at January 23, 2010 6:01 PM

I know sooner or later Scott Brown is really going to frost me; he's a New England Republican after all. But for now, I like that he represents both a rebuke to the march of Obamunism, and a unity among its opponents. Mike Potemra (someone I often disagree with) at NRO points out something else unifying about Scott Brown.

Brown is a member of a church affiliated with the Calvinist-rooted Christian Reformed Church in North America. If you go on the website of his congregation, New England Chapel in Franklin, Mass., you will read the following testimony from an attendee: "I have found a home, a family, friends, and most importantly, begun the journey to a REAL relationship with God. It is not one based on guilt or fear, but rather love, hope, and mercy." ... And then one reads that Mr. Brown helped raise $5.5 million for the Cistercian nuns of Wrentham, who pray for him daily... This is the America Scott Brown is from, a place where Calvinists are cheerful and conservative Cistercians pray for their Protestant benefactor.

Catholics and protestants praying together; that's a much prettier picture than that presented by the sheer nastiness of his opponents who are the ones who really want to divide us.
