Rumsfeld Dope-Slaps Obama on Afghanistan Speech

Posted by The MaryHunter at December 2, 2009 11:26 AM

Former Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld isn't quite so down with President Obama-the-Messiah's speechifications regarding the Bush administration's efforts in Afghanistan:

In a rare break in his public silence since leaving the Pentagon, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Wednesday lashed out at President Obama for claiming the Bush administration rebuffed commanders' repeated requests for more troops in Afghanistan.
"Such a bald misstatement, at least as it pertains to the period I served as secretary of defense, deserves a response," Rumsfeld said in a written statement. "I am not aware of a single request of that nature between 2001 and 2006."

To remind, from Obama's speech (if you happened to watch it without using it as a drinking game for the word "I"):

"Throughout this period, our troop levels in Afghanistan remained a fraction of what they were in Iraq," Obama said. "Commanders in Afghanistan repeatedly asked for support to deal with the reemergence of the Taliban, but these reinforcements did not arrive."

Nononono, says Rummy:

"The president's assertion does a disservice to the truth and, in particular, to the thousands of men and women in uniform who have fought, served and sacrificed in Afghanistan," Rumsfeld said.
He urged Congress to review the claim in the upcoming debate to "determine exactly what requests were made, who made them, and where and why in the chain of command they were denied."

The likelihood of a serious congressional investigation is just about the same as that of Al Gore making a further gazillion dollars on carbon offsets (unless he's short-selling). In fact, Rumsfeld's reception in Congress would probably be not unlike this (around 0:30 on video):

God, those Code Pinko bitches are shrill as all hell, ain't they? Thanks for posting this, TMH. I always liked Rummy and I knew that the stories surrounding this was bullshit. Hell, about the same time the campaign on Tora Bora happened, that's when some on the left were screaming "QUAGMIRE!"

Posted by: Atomic Lib Smasher at December 2, 2009 11:38 AM

Is that the same Rumsfeld that was fired by Bush... for some reason or other???

Posted by: Anonymous at December 2, 2009 12:26 PM

I seem to remember during the campaign that Obambi said "these are small countries, they don't threaten us" or something to that effect. So why do we need to escalate? I was also in Iraq and so I know that under the Bush/Rumsfeld plan, we received what we needed. Anything else is a lie and I saw many last night during the speech. I just can't believe someone hasn't done a side by side comparison of this clowns duplicitousness. In any case, the whole thing was all about him. He is simply carrying on the Bush Doctrine (whatever that is) and rightfully so. Two things he didn't say last night. One, what a great job the former administration did up until he took over and oh yea VICTORY?

Too bad Rumsfield wasn't Secretary of State.

Posted by: apostle53 at December 2, 2009 12:44 PM

Code stink is lucky nobody wants to charge them with treason for giving $600,000 to the taliban. I'd love to see them either hung or placed infront of firing squads and shot dead. Doubt that will happen anytime soon though.

Rumsfeld resigned. Bush said he would keep him on until the end of his term.

Speaking of Code Pink, this has got to be one of the funniest videos ever made about them. The Daily Show's Rob Riggle investigates Code Pink protesting The Marines in Berkeley (sorry if it's old hat or been posted before, but it's sort of on-topic).
Maybe deserves it's own comedy break post in light of recent events?

Of all the Donald trivia available, this quotation is without a doubt my favorite...

The Unknown

As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.

Rumsfeld... what a know it all!

Resigning is what you do to save face instead of being fired.

Where is this place called Pipelineistan I keep hearing about?...I get the impression it's very close to Afghanistan but cant find it on the map...

Posted by: dog (there, is that better?) at December 2, 2009 3:23 PM

Troop requests were actually made during the Bush/Rummy reign. The requests were rejected as they pumped more and more soldiers into Afghanistan. Now Obama commits 30,000 into Afghanistan for his own "surge" of sorts, not a plan, but a hail mary pass. What a joke. Yet, even funnier is how the right is not complaining about the cost of this. More hypocrisy, pro-lifers bitch over health care spending, yet are fine with killing spending in other countries. LOL!

Posted by: Anonymous at December 2, 2009 3:27 PM

"as they pumped more and more soldiers into Afghanistan" Should have read "Iraq"

Posted by: Anonymous at December 2, 2009 3:39 PM

Nov. 6, 2009 BAGHDAD—"The Iraqi Oil Ministry on Thursday said it has awarded a consortium led by Exxon Mobil Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell PLC the right to develop the West Qurna-1 oil field, representing the first American-led team gaining access to the country's oil patch.

The Exxon-Shell team, combining two of the world's biggest publicly listed oil companies, had been seen as the favorite to win the contract, which calls for the consortium to boost production at the already-pumping field in southern Iraq in exchange for a per-barrel fee. Among the three competitors, it offered the highest production target for the field, the Oil Ministry said."

Wow! What a stroke of luck... who could have ever imagined!!! Just being in the right place at the right time I guess...

Posted by: Anonymous at December 2, 2009 3:55 PM

Rumsfeld hasn't been in office for more than three years and these stupid moonbats have nothing better to do than yell at a private citizen and his wife. What ever happened to respect for one's elders?

One of the Democraps running for Fatboy Kennedy's Senate seat, a career idiot by the name of Michael Capuano is running ads beating up on GW Bush and stating why he didn't vote for Bush's plan. Of course, the Anointed One is placing troops in Afghanistan and Capuano states he will never ever vote for money for troops. Of course he never mentions OBAMA by name because like all the Dems, he has his lips wrapped tightly around ODumbo's pole.

HORRORS! The Iraqis dare to SELL their oil!

By the way stupid one, "Pipelineastan" does not exist. Try living in the real world for a change.

Posted by: KHarn at December 2, 2009 4:33 PM

For Anon: Your sneering comment about Exxon and Royal Dutch Shell winning a contract in Iraq is so typical of libs who look down on all of the little people. You don't think that the government of Iraq is able to decide for itself which companies to award oil contracts to? Or is it your contention that no American oil company should EVER be awarded an oil contract? And if you are inferring that the American co. won the contract because it was "in the right time at the right place" which I understand you to mean that Exxon was there during the Iraq War stealing Iraqi oil, then how do you explain Royal Dutch Shell sharing the contract? Were they too in Iraq during the war stealing Iraqi oil? Or are only American oil companies evil? You are an ass.

Posted by: TrickleUpPolitics at December 2, 2009 4:36 PM

While this is a completely different Anonymous, many on the left long claimed this was always about oil. Oil deals were arranged long before this finalized deal. As were the contractors who received deals. Proxy governments were put into place under masked elections and those complicit in the "horrors" of the wars have been propped up. Thinking this is good for the Iraqi people is about as smart as "Drill Baby Drill! This lines the pockets of the faux politicians and oil companies. Obama continues this lie by saying there is a threat to America in Afghanistan, no there is not, there is a natural gas line.

How is Iraq suppose to survive? How is Exxon going to pay all the taxes Zero is putting on them? Numb nuts and numbrain a perfect match

Why don't liberals like oil? Can't drive because too many DWIs? I'm not even gonna debate against the typical Mikhail Moore asskissing talking points because ya can't reason with the unreasonable, and libs are about as reasonable as Lorena Bobbitt on the rag armed with a machete after watching 12 hours of Lifetime.
