Profiles in Countermoonbattery: Jasper Schuringa

More of a profile in counterterrorism, this story just goes to show you what the average Joe could do to thwart an attack that several governments and their transportation security organizations could not. Jasper Schuringa, the Dutch passenger who saved nearly 300 people from certain death on Northwest Airlines Flight 253 (and prevented one Islamic terrorist bastard from scoring those 72 virgins), took it upon himself to attack the suicide terrorist, without even thinking. The hero's account of what went down just moments before landing:

"Suddenly, we hear a bang. It sounded like a firecracker went off," said Jasper Schuringa, a film director who was traveling to the US to visit friends.
"When [it] went off, everybody panicked ... Then someone screamed, 'Fire! Fire!'"
Schuringa, sitting in seat 20J, in the right-most section of the Airbus 330, looked to his left. "I saw smoke rising from a seat ... I didn't hesitate. I just jumped," he said.
Schuringa dove over four passengers to reach Abdul Mutallab's seat. The suspect had a blanket on his lap. "It was smoking and there were flames coming from beneath his legs."
"I searched on his body parts and he had his pants open. He had something strapped to his legs."
The unassuming hero ripped the flaming, molten object -- which resembled a small, white shampoo bottle -- off Abdul Mutallab's left leg, near his crotch. He said he put out the fire with his bare hands.

All this could all have been prevented, since the terrorist had been on the U.S. watch list for two years for likely terrorist ties.

The intelligence database that Mutallab is part of is described as containing people who have "loose ties or links to extremists," Fox News has learned. Any person in this database is someone who as of yet rises to threat level of no-fly lists or other more serious screenings.

The astounding bravery of Mr. Schuringa naturally resembles the bravery of those passengers who stopped the moron-terrorist Richard Reid, who tried to destroy a trans-Atlantic flight in 2001 with explosives hidden in his shoes, and naturally those Flight 93 patriots who gave their lives to prevent yet a third 9/11 target from being attacked. Mr. Schuringa more than made up for what governments usually cannot, or will not, do: he acted, boldly and decisively. When governments fail to protect us through excesses in incompetence or political correctness, it is We the People who must rise up and defend our freedom.

Thank you, Mr. Schuringa!

UPDATE: Just when you thought it was safe to try to save your own ass (and the airplane as well), the Obama Administration's Dope and Derange Division has instigated restrictions on passengers making it a no no to act the hero. In stead, you must remain in your seat, thankyouverymuch.

Among other steps being imposed, passengers on international flights coming to the United States will apparently have to remain in their seats for the last hour of a flight without any personal items on their laps. Overseas passengers will be restricted to only one carry-on item aboard the plane, and domestic passengers will probably face longer security lines.

Something, not sure, but something, tells me that a clever terrorist will certainly be able to do a tactical work-around of this gem of a regulation. As Gateway Pundit noted: It's an Obama world.
