Warrantless surveillance powers were expanded under the Bush administration, much to the dismay of liberty activists. Statist apologists played down the concerns by noting that such programs weren't likely to be misused.
Remember when those mindful of liberty warned that statism is always a losing bet?
This is a perfect example of why. Expansions of warrantless surveillance powers, originally designed to stop foreign jihadists from murdering Americans on American soil, are now squarely in the hands of a Marxist administration whose homeland security priorities include ignoring the jihadists to focus on patriotic American citizens instead of real terrorists.
This is why we don't allow government power to grow unchecked. Eventually, it falls into the wrong hands. Our Founding Fathers understood that too much government power, even if vested with the best intentions, will eventually be corrupted and used as a tool of oppression.
The limitless surveillance powers of the Federal government can now be used to harass patriotic citizens instead of terrorists.
Good luck getting this garbage repealed. A Republican instituted it, and a Democrat continued it. That's what we call "bipartisanship."

Climate/Climategate Updates Part Two
Despite all the damning revelations out of Britain’s East Anglia University, the belly of the global warming conspiracy, COP15, the United Nations’ international climate summit in Copenhagen, will go on as planned.
With President Obama, the twenty-first century’s answer to the indecisive Hamlet, tossing his hat into the climate cesspool, previously-dashed hopes for any successful agreements at COP15 have been resuscitated: http://bit.ly/8kzkhh
Glory be!
That means that the U.N. may yet seduce the United States into agreeing to devastating deals that will benefit the Third World and decimate American industry all because of the proven charade of global warming.
And now for some much needed levity in this miasma:
. Comedy Central’s Resident News Clown: For some inexplicable reason, Jon Stewart, nee’ Jon Leibowitz, is accepted by many as a news source when this clown’s news credibility is a few steps beneath that of George Stephanopoulis’.
Stewart recently performed some amazing mental gymnastics on “The Daily Show,” ridiculing the secretive, criminal actions of the warmist scientists at UEA then, without missing a step, he segued into ripping those who termed the mess that is Climategate.
As we all well know, Earth is inexorably becoming a cauldron.
See Stewart’s act here but especially note the comments on Swamppolitics.com which carried the story.
The commenters show far more astuteness, erudition, and sheer common sense than Stewart and handily refute his futile efforts at resorting to a reductio ad absurdum attack on Climategate: http://bit.ly/7iR9sI
Head for them Thar San Fran Hills!: Austrian-born body-builder, actor of sorts, hubby of a Kennedy, governor of the former great State of Caleeforniah, Arnold Swartzernegger, must be watching too many cataclysm flicks.
He began . . .

OK, who has those links to the articles on how the EPA is suppressing Dissenting Opinion (a violation of Agency and Federal Regulations) on the EPA Civil Servants who know the CO2 Hoax is a Hoax?
I have to admit that after 15 years of working at EPA, I still have trouble finding environmental data. Web searches don’t help that much so I rely on people like my friend Tim to email me data about hazardous waste. But I shouldn’t have to know every database manager to get EPA’s data.
It turns out that I’m not the only person with this problem.
From the EPA internal Blog - EPA Can’t find their own environmental data

Homophobia
Whenever I post an article critical of the homosexual campaign to seduce America’s school children into the “gay lifestyle,” I’m always inundated with protests that I’m a paranoid homophobe who manufactures stories out of thin air just to cast a slur the LGBTQ community.
Well, I would if I could but no manufacturing is necessary.
In my humble opinion, that “Q” has recently been apended to the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transsexual movement’s acronym to denote “Questioning” to encompass normal kids confused by all the homosexual success lately in gaining acceptance in some quarters.
That success is amply illustrated by the following, both of which stories involve that alleged paranoid homophobia:
. California Junior High Presents Pro-Homosexual ”Workshop” to Kids: Assuming their parents were dolts unable to understand gay indoctrination, 8th grade future leaders children at Goleta Valley Junior High School in Santa Barbara were subjected to 3 forty-five minute indoctrinations orchestrated by a gay rights group.
Not that any suggestion was offered to parents as to what Principal Veronica Rogers and teacher Christine Shaw really planned.
Shaw described the innocuous event in an email: “Pumpkin Bowling at lunch. . . with a quest speaker from Just Communities, [the gay group] a local NPO (non-profit organization) centered on fostering diversity and tolerance. The speaker will be addressing issues that students here at GV face, and give them tools to handle these situations in positive ways:” http://bit.ly/8KyDhK
Not a word about homosexuality-indoctrination.
The workshop “included handouts defining homosexual terminology, including queer and transgender, and listed ‘heterosexism’ as ‘oppression that “pushes down” people who are LGBTQ . . . and “pushes up” people who are straight.”
Even the rhetoric is suggestive. . .

Hey Max, Do You Believe In Coincidence?
The disclosure comes at a critical time for Baucus, who is leading Senate negotiations over the sprawling health care bill. It remains to be seen whether the disclosure will become an unwanted distraction as the bill moves into a pivotal phase in the coming days.
And despite Baucus’ office contention that nothing was improper about his recommendation, it will almost certainly spark calls for Ethics Committee inquiries given the appearance that Baucus was assisting his girlfriend secure a top spot as a prosecutor in the Obama administration.

UN climate chief: Hacked e-mails are damaging (AP)
AP - The world is entering talks on a new climate pact with unprecendented unity and leaders must seize the moment to create a turning point in the battle against global warming, the U.N.'s top climate official said Sunday. At a news conference, Yvo de Boer called on the 192 nations represented at the U.N. climate summit starting Monday "to deliver a strong and long-term response to the challenge of climate change."

When there's control to be had and money to be made, you know the UN isn't going to blow that by actually looking at this issue critically.
Hell, the UN is likely a co-conspirator in this scientific fraud.

Feds Cough Up $235 Million for Beacon Communities in Healthcare IT
"A big part of the federal stimulus plan for America that was approved by the government this year is intended to help improve the health care system in America. The money is in part needed to help the nation move to digital health records.
The federal government is now offering a new series of grants worth $235 million to communities with electronic health programs already in place. The new grants are to allow the communities to strengthen their health information infrastructure and data exchange.
The $235 million is coming out of the $2 billion that was set aside for discretionary program spending within the $20 billion federal stimulus package. InformationWeek reports that so far, 75% of the $2 billion in discretionary funds have been allocated to projects."

What about that Van?
Posted by: AlphaOmega at December 6, 2009 11:46 AM
Of course not. We're way beyond "victory" now. Everyone knows that enemies are defeated by building schools, roads, and hospitals.
In any case, now we know that Obama's troop surge in Afghanistan is not intended to subdue (much less "kill every member of," as an Obama aide describes defeating them) the Taliban. What it is for is not so clear.
Posted by: SK at December 6, 2009 12:32 PM
AlphaOmega, that makes sense. The Harvard Medical School found computerization to not save money nor improve administrative efficiency in hospital settings.
The technology will be there one day. It isn't now. Current government-funded health care IT spending is mostly shameful pork of the worst kind.
Follow the money. Which contractors will be reaping profits from these pork projects?

Government dumbing-down continues: public libraries being turned into video arcades
Interesting bits from the article:
According to a 2007 Syracuse University study, 7 out of 10 U.S. public libraries now provide gaming to teens and pre-teens.
Jenny Levine of the American Library association told the Virginian-Pilot: "It's going to go from a trend to being mainstream. Kids really understand the gaming and the fact that the libraries are embracing something that is important to them, that really speaks to them."
Libraries are now offering video games and movies to children. Paula Brehm-Heeger, president of the Young Adult Library Services Association said of the new entertainment available: "Librarians are really trying to respond to teens and to keep the library relevant in their lives. Gaming programs can draw in teens that librarians don't otherwise see."
Big Government doesn't want intelligent citizens. Big Government wants to breed easily-controlled grown children, whose mental inferiority, inability to plan their own lives, and inability to engage in critical thinking requires the heavy hand of government to intervene in private lives to keep the feel-good consumer gravy train moving.
Grown children are remarkably reliable voters. As long as government meets their needs, and gives them petty material trinkets and meaningless entertaining distractions to occupy their lives, they will turn out in favor of statism in staggering numbers.
The worst enemy of Big Government is a nation of free thinking, intelligent, reasoning, and self-reliant adults.

UN says climate finale may have happy ending
COPENHAGEN – Delegates converged Sunday for the grand finale of two years of tough, sometimes bitter negotiations on a climate change treaty, as U.N. officials calculated that pledges offered in the last few weeks to reduce greenhouse gases put the world within reach of keeping global warming under control.
Yvo de Boer, the U.N.'s top climate official, said on the eve of the 192-nation conference that despite unprecedented unity and concessions, industrial countries and emerging nations need to dig deeper.
"Time is up," de Boer said. "Over the next two weeks governments have to deliver."
Finance — billions of dollars immediately and hundreds of billions of dollars annually within a decade — was emerging as the key to unblocking an agreement that would bind the global community to a sweeping plan to combat climate change.
Nations also must need to commit to larger emission reductions, de Boer said.

Absolutely no Christmas decorations or trees in Copenhagen because religion has no place at a UN event.
But don't miss the money quote later in the article:
"We have to remember that this is a U.N. conference and, as the center then becomes U.N. territory, there can be no Christmas trees in the decor, because the U.N. wishes to maintain neutrality," said Denmark Foreign Ministry official Svend Olling.

Death Panel in California Ends Mammogram Subsidies for Women Between 40 and 50
The California Health and Human Services Agency is ending mammogram subsidies for low-income women under age 50. Under the old rules, women unable to pay could get a subsidy for annual breast-cancer screening starting at 40.
Lessons:
(1) Put your healthcare in the government's hands and there's nothing to stop it from deciding you shouldn't have as much care as you'd like.
(2) There is no appeal from the government's decision, except to make a political ruckus. This works fine if you have a high-profile problem like breast cancer. If you have something nobody else ever heard of, you're SOL.
(3) Governments don't know the first thing about budgeting or controlling costs.
(4) Democrats are lying when they say they'll step up preventive care to bring down costs. The California death panel is just kicking the can ten years down the road. Breast cancers caught early are more treatable and inexpensive than breast cancers caught late. Somehow I doubt that a woman unable to pay for a mammogram this year is somehow gonna get the dough to pay for cancer treatments ten years from now. Guess who she's gonna ask for help? Not to mention, there's an enormous cost saving if she happens to drop dead before she's diagnosed. Just saying...
