MoveOn.org Gets Grumpy with Obama over Afghanistan
Posted by The MaryHunter at December 2, 2009 7:05 PM
Know thine enemy:
Subject: Afghanistan
Dear MoveOn member,
Last night, President Obama announced that he will send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan—on top of the 68,000 who are already there.
MoveOn is its members, so after the speech, we asked thousands of members what they think of the president's plan. While some support his decision to send more troops, a significant majority think escalating the war is wrong. Where all of us agree is that we need to begin bringing our troops home as quickly and safely as possible. (You can see more detailed results below.)
As Sandy M. in Oregon put it, "Millions of lives will be tragically altered. Innocent people, by the thousands, will lose their lives. We have plenty of nation building to do, and it's in our country, not others."
While the president acknowledged that our commitment in Afghanistan cannot be open-ended, we have to act now to make sure our representatives and senators hold him to that. President Obama said he'll begin withdrawing troops in July, 2011, but news reports are already suggesting that withdrawal could be very limited, so pressure from Congress will be key.1
Congress could take up legislation related to the war this month, so we need to get the message to them quickly. Can you sign our emergency petition calling on Congress to end the war as quickly as possible? Clicking below will add your name:
http://pol.moveon.org/afghan_timeline/?id=18131-5541151-ASQtGYx&t=3
The petition says, "Congress must push the Obama administration to outline firm benchmarks and a binding timeline to bring all of our troops home from Afghanistan as soon as possible."
When we asked MoveOn members what they think about the situation in Afghanistan, they acknowledged the mess that George W. Bush left for President Obama. Still, nearly all MoveOn members agree that we must have a clear military exit strategy with a firm timeline so we can end the war quickly.
But right-wing hawks like Sen. John McCain are already pushing the President to continue the war indefinitely.2 In the face of this pressure, the majority of Americans, who oppose the war, must speak up.
The costs of this war are enormous—for the men and women of our armed forces who face injury or death, for Afghans who will suffer increased violence and civilian casualties, and for American citizens who are spending billions of dollars without being any safer. The administration and Congress have to hear from those of us who want to see the war come to an end.
Can you sign our emergency petition now telling Congress to work to bring our troops home? Clicking below will add your name:
Thanks for all you do.
–Daniel, Peter, Lenore, Kat, and the rest of the team
P.S. We've been hearing from MoveOn members about Afghanistan for months now, so we wanted to get a sense of what people were thinking in the wake of President Obama's speech. So, since last night's speech, we've asked more than 50,000 randomly selected MoveOn members to let us know what they think about the President's plan.
There's no question the situation in Afghanistan is difficult, and MoveOn members, like all Americans, are wrestling with the lack of good options. But right now, a significant majority of us oppose escalating the war. We've posted the results of the surveys we ran at:
http://pol.moveon.org/afghanistan/post_speech_surveys.html?id=18131-5541151-ASQtGYx&t=5

Now, if you feel that we need to get the puck outta Afghanistan for sincere conservative reasons, then feel free to write your congressman and senator -- just puhleez be sure to not sound like a MoveOn-er.
If, however, you feel that Obama's dithering, withdrawal-date approach to Afghanistan is a recipe for disaster, be sure to let your congresscritter know that as well. MoveOn.org moonbat minions are moving on the Hill, let's not let them swarm unopposed.
Heroically offered up by Bergbikr, who took one for the team by being on the MoveOn.org mailing list.

Once you get out of Batshitcrazyville and do some serious reading around the net... you will see that the left is quite unhappy with Obama... who seems to be more and more of a stooge of the American Oligarchy... and less and less for we the people.
Try it sometime... it's not healthy inbreeding so much.

Ah, so THAT's it! Anonopussy is mad that he got fired from being the frycook at Long John Silver's so he's taking out his loser aggression here. Makes sense now.

Many of those here do not get out of the trailer enough to prevent the "inbreeding". Als, the "left eating it's own"? That's funny! That is said in the aftermath of Teabaggers getting testy and looking at other races they can sabotage. Further, "grumpy" and abandonment are worlds away from the teabagger approach. Liberals apply political pressure, not lock step approval like your ilk did under Bush. You allowed these wars to begin under false allegations, and fearmongering, then like your daily dose told people "here take one of these, you will feel better" and it was a goddamn ribbon magnet.

"But right-wing hawks like Sen. John McCain..."
If John McCain's a Right Wing Hawk, Michael Moore's a Big-Tent Republican (very big tent, moo-moo big). This illustrates MoveOn's misunderestimation of conservatism. Technically Hitler was a Right Wing Hawk, and he was a Leftist.
The Taliban today announced a Jihad Furlough until July 2011. Thanks Obama.

Luthier? Now there's a recession-proof industry.

"Luthier? Now there's a recession-proof industry."
Not really, but I like being in total control of my life and working for people who have a soul... or have soul, at least many of them do... oh god! I'm talking to myself! ... what's happening!

As Sandy M. in Oregon put it, "Millions of lives will be tragically altered. Innocent people, by the thousands, will lose their lives. We have plenty of nation building to do, and it's in our country, not others."
Funny, I thought Bush's illegal war of imperialist oil occupation in Iraq ended up saving a net 750,000 Iraqi lives and liberating 30 million of them.

Playing an archaic stringed instrument is your measurement of having a soul? Try reading the Bible. We all have a soul, and to judge by your posts, yours is in danger of eternal damnation. Narrow is the gate that leads to salvation and few there be that find it, but broad is the way to eternal damnation.

Wellstone I will let you in on my 100% effective, never-fails line of questioning for all of you supporters of Saddam Hussein.
By supporters, I mean those on the left who protested their country's success in hunting down this vicious killer and bringing democracy to millions. I always find it humorous to then hear Libs wanting it both ways, though - with a lame CYA claim that Saddam was terrible, but at the same time should have been left alone to continue to rape, torture and kill.
So here are the questions:
1. Please try to answer (ballpark) how many human beings filled Saddam's mass graves during his 30-year reign. And Google the various ways the Baathists killed their victims, including keeping a staff of doctors for the express purpose of cutting out tongues.
2. If after researching and answering 1 you feel it's still not a justifable cause to go to war, please explain what exactly would be, in your view.
3. Would you like to live in Iraq under Saddam, or in Iraq today?
Libs immediately lose the debate on 1, 2 and 3 above, of course. All they can do then is to rearrange the goalposts by denying the very existence of Saddam.
Then in a final coup de grace, the Lib must merely come up with his own absurd, conspiratorial reasons for the war that would indeed be silly if they were true.
Usually these consist of "Blood for Oil" or other conspiracies involving Capitalism. But nobody got rich, and we certainly don't have any Iraqi oil, and by the time you get to that part the Lib has usually exited stage left, muttering "Racist".

Actually I'd say being a luthier is a recession proof industry. Anyone with the skills to make quality stringed instruments also has the skills to do many kinds of fine woodworking.
Posted by: guitar man at December 2, 2009 10:14 PM
Anonymous I admire Luthiers. I probably have seen your stuff; custom guitar work is really something else. I applaud you doing so well at your craft and sticking with it to master it and make a career of it. That is a great American tradition. I'm a lefty and always had to build my own Strats. My heart is heavy since Kahler left the scene...
Posted by: Air2air at December 2, 2009 10:17 PM
So how come #1 was not used as a justification for going to war in the first place?
Posted by: guitar man at December 2, 2009 10:17 PM
Guitar man, do you need a picture book for everything?
Posted by: Anonymous at December 2, 2009 10:46 PM
If that was supposed to answer my question, it didn't.
Posted by: guitar man at December 2, 2009 10:49 PM
"So how come #1 was not used as a justification for going to war in the first place?"
Think of the Middle East as a battle theater. Iran has been the target since the Shah fell. Don't pay much attention to the news, look at the positions of our bases and fleets. We're all around like checkers. Saddam was a bad guy, how convenient. Don't forget Turkey has 110,000 troops to the north, and there is always Israel to the south. We're in the Med, Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Indian Sea, with flyover rights over most of the region.
This line of strength is a deterrent to Russia and China, and protects the oil we want from "friendly" nations.
Posted by: Joe Lender at December 2, 2009 10:49 PM
Joe are you saying .. um ... what are you saying?
Posted by: Air2air at December 2, 2009 11:06 PM
Luthier or not, when you espouse a belief system that is based on victim mentality, it doesn't matter what YOU do, what matters most is how much the OTHER guy makes at what he does, because that determines the size of my subsidy (welfare) check.

Ghost of Gallstone deems anyone who isnt a leftist as a "hater" while completely ignoring haters like Keith Olbermann, Rachel MadCow, Michael Moore, John Murtha, Reverend Wright, Calypso Louis Farrakhan and band of bow tied freaks, New Black Panthers, ACORN, Tweety Matthews, Code Pinko, ect.
Where has Gallstone the last between 2001 and 2008 when left wing blogs were spouting hatred of Bush (even conservatives had problems with him in his 2nd term)and now have targeted Sarah Palin with a vengeance.
Gallstone is the biggest hypocrite on the planet.

I monitor the DU, but that's all I can take. For example, here's today's gem, concerning the 4 cops killed by the now kaput criminal Clemmons:

Absolutely! Pull all the troops back. Nuke Afgoofystan and Waziristan into glass slag with dirty bombs. Shoot anything that tries to escape. Go home.
This particular part of the world is and always has been a nest of vipers... or perhaps more accurately, rabid foaming rats that infect anything they touch or bite.
And yes, I am espousing cleansing' but not against any particular ethnicity, just the infected and mentally diseased.
