Harry Reid Calls Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs Destroyed "Great Progress"

Posted by Gregory of Yardale at December 6, 2009 2:58 PM

If I were a Republican, I would send Harry Reid a Thank You Note for this soundbite.

(Yeah, it's a little out of context, but the left did this to Bush all the time. And with Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh, they just plain make stuff up.)

Can we go ahead and count Dingy Harry as one job lost for 2010?

Posted by: forest at December 6, 2009 3:05 PM

Benedict Arlen Spectre too. That makes two jobs lost for 2010.

Posted by: forest at December 6, 2009 3:06 PM

Only a Democrat could say that with a straight face.

Posted by: White Rook at December 6, 2009 3:12 PM

Obama very candidly declared his intent to bankrupt the coal industry before the election.

With the EPA's plan to bypass Congress and declare CO2 a public danger expected to occur on Monday, that should give Dingy Harry even higher numbers to be excited about.

Keep talkin' Harry. You're the most articulate spokesman for conservatives I've yet heard.

2010, baby! You Betcha!

Posted by: Wyatt's Torch at December 6, 2009 3:20 PM

FrankenDodd is probably going to lose. That's three jobs.

Posted by: TrickleUpPolitics at December 6, 2009 3:30 PM

I hope a year from now HARRY REID gets handed his walking papers right out of washington D.C. and is sent home with a big shoe mark in his rear

Posted by: SPURWING PLOVER at December 6, 2009 3:38 PM

That's Harry....Just getting his free "political ad" face-time; sounding off with the moveon.org talking points and praying he survives the next election. If he keeps this up, his chances will be slim and none. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy...Well, maybe Murtha? I'm not sure which I abhor more.

They don't call him "Pinky" for nuttin'. Love how he looked up to the ceiling for some source of an answer.

Lost jobs increases the number of those who become dependent on the state for their living expenses.

So even though taken out of context, it's not to far of a stretch to believe that a leftist would consider lost jobs to be a mark of progress.

Posted by: J at December 6, 2009 4:38 PM

Posted by: J at December 6, 2009 4:38 PM

In spite of the net loss of jobs again last month, the jobless rate fell from 10.2% to 10% due to people being out of work so long they are no longer counted as part of the work force. I think Progressives were thrilled with this all the way around. More people dependent on the State, fewer jobs, and a fig leaf of a "lower unemployment rate" all wrapped into one. They just need to keep their story straight and pretend they want people to succeed on their own.

Posted by: forest at December 6, 2009 5:00 PM

Lost jobs increases the number of those who become dependent on the state for their living expenses.

Lost jobs also increase the number of states dependent on the Federal government for their operating expenses.

More money from the first porkulus was spent bailing out states than any other purpose.

The states are broke again, just as Congress has begun working on a second porkulus disguised as a jobs bill.

This administration is actively working to create perpetual budget dysfunction, in which each state must go to the Feds every year, begging for money.

"This is such an exciting time to be an employer in America," said Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, adding that every single day 6,500 more citizens join America's growing possible workforce. "There's such a massive and diverse pool of job-ready Americans to choose from. And each month the number only gets higher."

Posted by: blue at December 6, 2009 5:55 PM

The number of jobs lost is decreasing, which is a good thing. Albeit, nothing to brag about. Yet, you guys still continue to live in fantasy land, and think this just began on Jan.21st 2009. We have 10 people for every one job, and the conservative approach is more tax cuts, which creates nothing, as the last 30 years have demonstrated. Repeal the Reagan and Bush tax cuts, as well as the deregulation standards, and we will see the American people prosper in a system that prevents the metaphorical rape that has been taking place.

You are so brainwashed to think the status quo is functional in today's society, that your brains are full of sawdust. I would think that would itch? We do not make anything anymore!

Posted by: Anonymous at December 6, 2009 6:18 PM

Government Math:
When 200,000 people lose their jobs in one month, it's a "recession".
When 100,000 people lose their jobs the next month, it's a "recovery".

To stooopid peons like you and me, it's "300,000 people out of work".

Posted by: KHarn at December 6, 2009 6:20 PM

The Liberal above posted while I was ironing out my post.

So ANONYMOUS, your solution is MORE TAXES and MORE REGULATIONS? It seems that you have no idea what companies do with their (EEEVIL) profits. I will tell you.

Profits (After expenses, payroll, service and utility bills, paying investors and stock holders) go back into the company. This money is used for credit, improvements, maintinance and for EXPANSION of the company. Said expansions create jobs for BUILDERS, MACHINE MANUFACTURERS and for all the NEW EMPLOYEES that must be hired. This is stuff that used to be taught in gradeschool, so how come the "best and brightest" in Liberal-land can't figure this out?

This must be liberal math at work, because when I took economics, it was

Employers - money = less workers

If you libs didn't vote against the American workers and small business people time and time again to ease tax burdens, maybe they can HIRE more people and therefore stimulate the economy.

Granted, under Bush, spending was pretty ridiculous (No thanks to a Dimowit Congress... check here for more

. Under Obama, it's gotten just nuckin' futs.

Posted by: Atomic Lib Smasher at December 6, 2009 6:41 PM

We are witnessing a meltdown. The tax incentives are allowing companies to over indulge in overseas hires. We allow conglomerates to buy up poor businesses, further bankrupt them, and then expect workers to pay off their debt. Look at Romney's practices over the years. This is not rocket science. If companies receive tax breaks here, they should be producing something, which we do not. If we are not producing anything, Americans are not working, we are not collecting on imports due to deregulation, and we are exporting very little from foreign companies already here. You like to use "tax cuts" like it is some big deal for the little guy, well it isn't. Had we not bought into Reagan's bullshit, we would not have some of the problems we have now...namely China.

Posted by: Anonymous Kraut Socialist at December 6, 2009 6:44 PM

ALS, apparently you don't recognize that profits are employing foreign workers, not Americans. Without regulations "Employers - money = less workers"...it means less U.S. workers. If you were to hire people for a call center in Texas at $18 an hr. vs hiring people in India for $7 an hr. Who are you going to hire? Yet, you begin to see American sales drop, where is the fuck up? This is where oversight comes in. The government sets the standards for our economy. If those rules are ignored or lax, companies step on workers. Just ask the Unions in Ohio,Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

Posted by: Anonymous Kraut Socialist at December 6, 2009 6:52 PM

I read some of this crap and I am totally amazed. To say anything more about Obama and his economic policies would be redundant.
If Obama and the nut cases that voted for him continue their insistence that government control and more taxes is the answer, let them do it.
They can, based on their majorities in both houses.
But come 2010 and 2012, they will realize that most of the people wishing for hope and change with Obama will have that wish fulfilled with someone else.
You Betcha, could I have an order of hash browns with that "hope and change" plate, Darn it.

Posted by: Eneils Bailey at December 6, 2009 7:25 PM

Just ask the Unions in Ohio,Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

Oh, yeah, the alliance of unions and governments has done wonders for the economies of those states.

And maybe exporting jobs overseas has something to do with the US having the second highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world (due to become number one under the Obamacrats) + crushing environmental regulations + out of control tort liability + OSHA, EEOC, and SarBox regulations and and soon to come, crushing health care mandates and cap and trade laws.

Eneils, good luck on taking 81 seats in the House or even 2 in the Senate. People are frustrated, but they certainly are not flocking to the conservative side. The odds of you guys ever taking down Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, Joe Sestak, or Dick Durbin are slim to none.

"people wishing for hope and change with Obama will have that wish fulfilled with someone else." That is awfully contradicting since the right wants the status quo.

Tell me Grover, how should we pay for things our nation needs and desires? Borrow from China? Maybe we can squeeze a little more out of the Saudis. Taxes are what we put into our societies. There is also the issue of people who are underemployed. I know people who did find jobs but often at 50% of their former pay or are working just 1 or 2 part time jobs.

Posted by: Anonymous at December 6, 2009 8:05 PM

John, good point. That number is not counted. And the 1 or 2 part time jobs barely make ends meet. So, sinking all of our efforts into tax cuts, which have proven not to work, we need a a system like many European countries have. If someone is going to be laid off, instead have their hours cut then the Government steps in to subsidize the pay difference. Corporations continue to stay productive with a good staff, and people keep their jobs. It also reduces money spent on unemployment benefits.

Under Bush and Reagan tax cuts we saw military spending expand while the infrastructure fell apart and we borrowed from Communist nations. So, the cut taxes bullshit is worthless.

I like how you equate the expanding military spending as a result of lower taxes. Then, by making this leap of causation, you deem that tax cuts are bullshit.

Seriously, applying this same logic... Let's say I choose not to turn my lights on for one month. Then, during that same month, I run 40 space heaters. After the month goes by, and my electricity bill skyrockets, I argue that turning the lights off didn't save me money/energy.

If you don't understand the insanity of that argument/analogy, then you are beyond hopeless.

I'd like to believe you're just plain stupid but I'm left with the absolute reality that you are willfully ignorant, potentially braindead.

Granted, you're part of the same crowd that believes that higher individual taxes allows for more personal spending money. How you come to that conclusion, nobody knows. It defies all rules of economics, simple logic, and a basic understanding of mathematical principles. $30

Kraut socialist above, lays China on Reagan. China and India were B.J. Clinton's doing. China was assigned the MFT Nation status (Most Favored Trading).

Employers in this country would prefer to employ locally. However, the costs are now way too prohibitive to hire and manufacture goods here because of: 1.) Instrumented environmental moonbattery (EPA): The government will not permit manufacturing here; eg: The only permitted emissions from smokestacks are Daisies. In China and India, no such problem. Any dissent is dealt with via bullet in the back of the head 2.) The cost of labor due to labor unions. The cost to employ a UAW worker in the USA was in the neighborhood of $70.00/hour. Including: Benefits, unions dues wages, and don't forget taxes. The cost to employ a non-union auto worker: $40.00/Hr, wages, benefits and taxes paid. Choices like these make the slave labor in the MFT nations look mighty attractive. Compare the mean $55.00/hour cost with China: They get a bowl of rice a day; Benefits: they get to sleep on the floor of the plant for warmth; And, if they don't like it: They get a bullet in the back of the head.

That's the type of government they have in the People's Republic of China. And, the type of government that we're headed for here, brought to us by the National Socialists led by Hussein, Harry and Nancy. The government will make all your decisions for you. Dissent, and Pop! Problem solved. Ever heard the term: "Useful idiot?" It was coined by your hero Lenin, to describe you, Mr. Anonymous Kraut Socialist.

Posted by: batman at December 6, 2009 10:20 PM

Benedict Arnold was a veteran too. The issue is whether the person is a traitor or not, not whether he's a veteran or not.

Posted by: Anonymous at December 6, 2009 10:38 PM

"Dissent, and Pop! Problem solved" Ahh more paranoia from teabaggers! Remember those free speech zones? Ya know, the ones we survived for 8 years. Guess what, they are gone! taxes have gone down, you can take yer guns to parks, bars, churches etc. And we still get to fight in two wars. So, you ought to be happy.

And you think the government won't allow manufacturing here? You are truly stuck in idle aren't you? Both Bush and Obama have been trying to save manufacturing jobs, especially the Motor City. As for enviromental standards, sane folks think they are a good thing. Otherwise we can just let are children be poisoned and pets killed off. I will give you the Clinton/China thing. I did not tie Reagan to China, I used his economic policies to show why we owe China so much. This is the difference between naive little Norquist wannabes and actual economists. Taxes are what we pay for society! Funny though, spending...not an issue to you guys if we are killing people.

btw, I am still not in Germany! lol

Posted by: Anonymous Troll with German IP Address at December 6, 2009 10:39 PM

Taxes have gone up, even more taxes are being deferred though the use of borrowing, and the only reason we can carry guns to a national park is because a few conservative senators attached the bill as a rider to a nanny-state remake of the credit card industry that libs were not about to vote down.

Taxes are what we pay for society!

Spoken like a good slave. Not only do you accept your bondage, but you enjoy rationalizing the feel of your chains.

Since you will surely respond with the usual liberal claptrap, I will preemptively point out that, in liberal parlance, the word "taxes" is used to mean an open-ended first lien against the fruits of one's labor, for whatever amount the state wishes, for whatever purpose the state wishes, without any rational relation to the cost of the necessarily public goods and services consumed by the taxpayer or expended on the taxpayer's behalf, and without any actual requirement that the taxpayer benefit from the monies confiscated from him.

Dressing up Marxist economics as a "duty to society" makes its implementation much more palatable, on a gradual basis.

Posted by: Anonymous Countermoonbat at December 6, 2009 10:58 PM

The "student dude" who stood in front of the tank in China's Tianamen square -- What do you think he's doing right now? That's right: He's Pushing up daisies. That was a student. He's done, now.

Taxes are down thanks only to Booosh. That was fought tooth and nail by the National socialist controlled congress: They even tied an expiration date to it. It expires next year. Taxes go up next year.

Manufacturing jobs here? Make a visit to Detroit, or Gary: See for yourself the weeds coming up through the parking lots of the steel companies that used to employ employ, clothe and house hundreds of thousands of families. That manufacturing was destroyed by the unions and the government clean air act. Now, the kids left in impoverished Gary eat lead paint chips. Drive down any major boulevard in any city that had a GM or Chrysler dealership. See the weeds coming up in the parking lots. Those dealerships used to employ people and pay taxes. Not any longer! Because of all that "help" that Harry Reid is talking about. That's that help that the Obamination gave to GM and Chrysler.

Posted by: batman at December 6, 2009 11:04 PM

The first bill signed by Obama raised a regressive tax paid disproportionately by members of the lower class.

How is that for inconvenient truth?

The Obamabots usually defend his honesty with regard to the campaign pledge by claiming that he was actually referring to income taxes, which are little more than one accounting method used by government to separate people from their hard earned money.

The working class Americans who believed his pledge make the mistake of thinking Obama wouldn't increase their burden of government.

Citizens don't care about the accounting method or the name. Their concern is how much less they have thanks to government.

Posted by: Anonymous Countermoonbat at December 6, 2009 11:21 PM

Taxes are what we pay for society! Funny though, spending...not an issue to you guys if we are killing people.

To tax: To place a burden upon something. The opposite of subsidize. Taxes don't pay for society, they burden society.

Spending for killing people? War is hell! Conservatives value human life, especially innocent human life. Did you notice what happened 9/11/2001? More innocent human lives were lost there, than were lost at Pearl Harbor when this nation entered into WW II. The nation had no choice but to defend itself against this foreign enemy. Even The One conceded that: "Our cause is just." Did you see what happened to Spain after they pulled out of the coalition? Did it stop for them? (No, they blew up a train, and a court house) Was France spared? No! How many successful attacks happened on U.S. soil since 9/11/2001. Only one, so far: Fort Hood.

Change you can believe in?

To our dumb socialist friend who denies being from Germany despite using a German ISP and having a German IP address: Republicans do not to win 81 seats in 2010 to reclaim a congressional majority, they need to win 42 seats. I don't think they will, personally, but even Daily Kos is calling Democrat poll numbers "cataclysmic."

Posted by: V the K at December 7, 2009 4:43 AM

That said, re-industrializing the United States should be a national priority. But doing so would require a series of reforms that the statist Democrats would never go for.

  • Reducing taxes on manufacturing, ideally to 0
  • Pass a national "right-to-work" law
  • Tort reform to protect manufacturers from predatory lawyering
  • regulatory reform, including an end to stupid environmental regulations like cap and trade
  • Infrastructure investment in power plants, freeways and freight rail at a level similar to the TARP Wall Street bailout

Tell me Grover, how should we pay for things our nation needs and desires?

Posted by: Anonymous at December 6, 2009 7:43 PM

1. By making it most profitable for businesses to set up shop in the US, and hire Americans

2. By lowering taxes and letting Americans keep more of what they EARN

3. By mandating that state AND Federal taxes can not MAY NEVER exceed more than 10% of personal or corporate income.

4. By cutting ALL Federal spending except for national defense, care of Veterans, interstate highways, and the national parks.

5. By letting individuals and corporations spend THEIR OWN MONEY (now that they have more of it -- see #2 above) on the social programs that THEY support.

Sounds much better than the Leftist plan of FORCING and BANKRUPTING everyone to pay for the largesse of a few politically correct groups, doesn't it?
