A Feminist's Idea of Humor

Posted by Gregory of Yardale at December 23, 2009 2:12 PM

NPR this week rebroadcast a 2007 Host Taxpayer-paid Propagandist Terri Gross that featured the comedic stylings of feminist satirist and self-avowed communist Nellie McKay (a.k.a. Who?). Here is some of what passes for cutting edge, feminist hilarity --- a little ditty McKay sang accompanied by ukulele. It went like this:

They say child molestation isn't funny (Ha, ha, ha, ha) Rape and degradation's just a crime (Lighten up, ladies.) Rampant prostitution, sex for money (What's wrong with that?) Can't these chicks do anything but whine? (Dance break!)
They say cheap objectification isn't witty (It's hot!) Equal work and wages worth the fight (Sing us a new one) On-demand abortion, every city (Okay, but no gun control!) Won't these women every get a life
Feminists don't have a sense of humor (Poor Hillary!) Feminists and vegetarians (Make mine a Big Mac) Feminists spread vicious lies and rumor They're far too sensitive to ever be a ham That's why these feminists just need to find a man

Are we ROTFLOAO yet?

Nellie McKay expresses concern in the video that she'll become a hypocrite if her tight satire makes her wildly popular and famous. I don't think she needs to worry.

And it's not like feminist issues are not ripe for satire:

That's the way you do it, ladies.
