Yes, Virginia, There Is a War on Christmas

Posted by Gregory of Yardale at November 23, 2009 7:29 PM

Three years ago, Best Buy announced it would no longer use the word 'Christmas' in its seasonal advertising because, they claimed, it was disrespectful to other holidays to use a specific holiday in its advertising: "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them."

All right, so explain this:

30854.jpg

Best Buy, at one time anyway, decided not to allow the words "Merry Christmas" in its advertising, but now they are fine with wishing Muslims a "Happy Eid al-Adha."

Meanwhile, The Gap has also expunged any mention of the horrible celebration of the birth of the Prince of Peace and replaced it with "Dowhateveryouwannukah"

Maybe if I were a moonbat, I'd understand what was so offensive about Christmas.

Update: Saw this comment in the original post:

I applaude Preident Obama for his apologies. Finally a person who has the courage to stand up for what is right and deserved. There are many more apologies due many nations, and groups of people. The history of the USA is a disgraceful one when you look at how after the first winter when the Pilgrims were saved from starvation by Native Americans, those very people were lied to, cheated, stolen from, nearly exterminated and then parked on mostly desolate pieces of real estate and forgotten. Then the USA and it's wealthy white business owners enjoyed over a hundred years of free labor from people taken from their homeland of Africa at gunpoint. Someone should discuss reparations for Slavery, what about 40 acres of land for each African-American and an automobile. The purchase of Alaska from Russia by Mr. Seward had to have been some hoodwinking , some fudging or some cheating, leaving Russia with the short end of the stick. Someone should apoligize and discuss reparations to Russia for that bit of trickery. In the last part of the 19th century , much of the southwest was stolen from the people of Mexico, again at gunpoint. The Pacific Northwest since the last ice age had huge old growth forests teeming with deer, elk, spotted owls and a Puget Sound stuffed full of salmon ,Orcas and bottom fish, the indigenous people lived peacefully and sustainably with the environment. Oh oh, here come the whites and just a few decades later , tobbaco spitting timber workers with their evil diesel fuel spewing machines have wiped out 90+% of the old forests and their ecosystems, commercial fishermen pillaged and raped the waterways to near extinction, and once again, the Native Americans get a tiny piece of what they once had and an 80+% alcoholism rate. The fuel that powers this evil way of life starts to run low, so what does America do, go to the Middle east with their military machine and mugs the Arabic people for their oil, and when some eventually resist, send in the bombers, tanks and cruise missiles. The latest group of people that need an apology and reparations, are the Hispanic people who have been exploited for several decades by billion dollar fruit and other corporations. President Obama and the people who for centuries have been benefitting by what I would call Social and Economic Terrorism have a LOT of apologizing.

Care to eviscerate?

Best Buy is now off of my Christmas shopping destination list.

Damn.

No s**t! I just went to my stack of papers and pulled out the Best Buy ad and sure enough! I, for one, am no longer shopping at Best Buy! Thanks, Gregory of Yardale, for pointing this out.

Posted by: C-Bug at November 23, 2009 8:06 PM

Looks like Fry's gets my Christmas (and all future) shopping business.

Posted by: Had Enough at November 23, 2009 8:08 PM

There are plenty of places who can supply my electronic wants. At better prices I might add. Thank's Best Buys, but No Thanks......

Posted by: John Galt at November 23, 2009 8:12 PM

Anyway to go viral with this and cause a boycott of Best Buy??

Posted by: Oiao at November 23, 2009 8:16 PM

Am I ever glad you posted this one. I was thinking of hitting up Burkah-Buy for an external hard drive. Nuts to it now, I'll order it from Tigerdirect.

Only the mental illness known as diversity could lead a retail business to act so damn stupid?

Posted by: Judith M. at November 23, 2009 8:55 PM

Screw Beast buy - I'll never darken their lousy doors again.

If the mucking fuslims can make up Beast Buys' revenue from a Christian boycott - more power to the bastards. They better put a foot wash in the lavatories.

Glad to see this entry. I was pissed off about dowhateveryouwannakah when I saw the commercial a few days ago. What the F is wrong with these people? It's so .... malignantly dismissive of others' beliefs. Religion is a big joke. Anybody who believes anything is worthy only of contempt. It's all a big party. Let's just dance and laugh and not get all stuck and stuff in those old-fashioned things. Except for Islam. Islam is sacred. Can't be criticized, judged, or discussed. Can't even run a cartoon.

Anyone wonder why, how, or when that ever happened?

Posted by: mega at November 23, 2009 9:03 PM

If anyone here is a Freeper, suggest you post this item there. Lots of visibility.

Posted by: Oiao at November 23, 2009 9:14 PM

BOYCOTT BES BUY and hit them where it hurts their bank accounts. As long as their going to play grinch we can make them suffer

Posted by: SPURWING PLOVER at November 23, 2009 9:35 PM

IF everyone goes to the AFA website, they have posted a list of retailers that are friendly to Christmas and Christians. They have made huge differences with Walmart, Lowes, Target among others. Until these fascist sell-outs at Gap and Best Buy want to recognize Christmas, my money and the money of my friends and family WILL be spent elsewhere.

Posted by: Ventura at November 23, 2009 9:44 PM

I found several emails at the Best Buy website - including their legal department. That's who I chose to send an email to.

I also sent their little ad to everyone on my email list.

Please do the same.

Bye, Bye, Best Buy. I'll pass this along.

Posted by: Brenda at November 23, 2009 10:22 PM

Trying to be politically correct while destroying a centuries old tradition is a really dumb idea. They aren't the only outlet that sells those products. I too will avoid them like a plague.

Posted by: IOpian at November 23, 2009 10:39 PM

Also in November 2007, Best Buy Corporation began using the term "Christmas" as well as "holiday" in their stores and in their advertising.[49] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_controversy#cite_note-48

I live in Boston, work in academia, and say Merry Christmas to everyone, unless I knwo they're Jewish, then I say Happy Chanakah (or however you spell it). No one's said shit to me.

The war on Xmas is just more garden variety right wing belly-achin:
WAHHHHHHHHH!!! Some people don't say Merry Xmas!!!!! WAHHHHHHHH!!! Companies say 'Holidays' so they don't have to list 12,000 friggin' holiday names! It's a war!!!!! WAHHHHHH!

Maybe Santa will leave YOU some milk and cookies to make your imaginary boo-boo all better.

Posted by: brs at November 23, 2009 11:44 PM

According to the wiki reference in the article, Best Buy returned to using "Christmas" in 2007. Here's an ad to prove that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLF3THyMRc . I don't like them honoring a phony holiday based on a story stolen from the Jews, but I guess that's the way it goes. At least they are saying Merry Christmas in most places again.

Posted by: toreydawn at November 24, 2009 1:04 AM

BRS, I and everybody else here knows that different cultures have different ways of celebrating the holidays and ways of saying so. If a Jewish guy wishes me a "Happy Hanukkah", I say "thanks, and have a Merry Christmas". Niceties among two people who spend the holidays different. But if Best Buy says "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them." and then posts some bullshit Happy Eid al-Adha.. don't ya think it's a little hypocritical? And of course there is a war on Christmas due to the Christ part of it and the leftist agenda of hiding behind the "diversity" label. Now I'm gonna have to go watch the 1st Mr. Hankey episode of South Park.

F**k Best Buy. I buy all my electronics from NewEgg and have done so for years.

LOL,..WOW,..where did this fool attend school?Must be the same as B.O! Bleeding heart liberals have to be the most ignorant, brain starved vegetables in the universe. It must hurt.

BAN BEST BUY

Posted by: 3bus at November 24, 2009 5:40 AM

Aww chit, sure enough its in the actual ad. *SIGH*

Now you gone and done it Bets Buy, the ONE store I was gonna spend serious money at this year is now banned for life. Guess its Brands Mart now (sure hope they don't screw up too)

Oh and McNamys gives a hearty FU to Best Buy...

America hoodwinked the Russians to get Alaska? Wait, didnt the Russians steal Alaska from the Eskimos? And didnt British steal Canada from the Indians too? Give it back Cannucks - go home to Merry Olde England.

Posted by: Winston Smith - Ministry of Truth at November 24, 2009 6:16 AM

I wish merry Christmas on Christmas. Why? Because that's the holiday. Liberals are hell bent on removing and scrubbing any reference to a judeo christian god and giving muslims whatever they want. Good thing I live in a town where it's still fine to hear Christmas, have a tree and decorate it!

Posted by: Jay B at November 24, 2009 6:20 AM

The American Family Association website lists retailers who are friendly towards Christmas:

http://action.afa.net/Detail.aspx?id=2147486887

I e-mailed them asking that they move Best Buy to the "Companies Against Christmas" category, which is clearly appropriate.

Adios, Best Buy. My future business, and that of my friends and family, goes elsewhere.

Posted by: LouieLouie at November 24, 2009 6:38 AM

BTW, "friends" in the above post includes a lot of people at, you know, 'church'.

As ye sow....

Live by the sword....

What goes around....

You made your bed....

Etc.

Good luck with that, Best Buy.

Posted by: LouieLouie at November 24, 2009 6:42 AM

Merry Christmas one and all.
2010/2012/2013

Posted by: czuch at November 24, 2009 7:06 AM

Does Best Buy know why this coming Friday is called Black Friday? It's because most retailers will finally show black ink in their financials. Why on earth would a retailer attack Christmas?

Posted by: oldguy at November 24, 2009 9:30 AM

Hey all you people that are anti Best Buy... they changed their policy back in 2007. Obviously the writer of this blog is a hack that doesn't do any research before he attacks a company that has done the right thing.

Posted by: RottDawg at November 24, 2009 9:35 AM

Just Called Best Buy - Customer Relations said they were now recognizing all Holidays. I asked why no “Happy Thanksgiving” on Thanksgiving Day flyer. Answer: “uhh uhh uhh”

Posted by: Dmax at November 24, 2009 11:12 AM

I suggest you write to Best Buy (no matter what they say about recognizing all holidays) and call them. I also recommend posting this on blogs and facebook, etc., to get the word out. I am sure they will sell lots of flat screens for Al edakbar for whatever the F&%^$ it's called.

Posted by: puffdaddy at November 24, 2009 4:48 PM

I'm boycotting..and all those that do need to write Best Buy Corporate immediately about your boycott and why.

Posted by: Tehtriggerman at November 24, 2009 5:04 PM

I don't like them honoring a phony holiday based on a story stolen from the Jews...

I'm guessing you're not a big fan of kwanzaa then?

>...after the first winter when the Pilgrims were saved from starvation by Native Americans...>

Wrong again. "The pilgrims" were saved by supply ships from VIRGINIA.

Has anyone noticed the last few years the lack of any real christmas themed movies out of hollyweird?

Posted by: Flu-Bird at November 24, 2009 9:44 PM

Jay - Kwanzaa is a made up holiday that bears no relation to anything African or otherwise, and it was made up by a radical, race bating America hater who has a job for life.

As for the update at the top of this page, although I thoroughly disagree, this guy hasn't got a clue. I work in Africa & I can tell him/her one thing. The slaves were not taken from Africa by Americans at gunpoint. They were taken from Africa By AFRICANS themselves. Yes that is right. I work here & a lot of older folks here will tell you the truth. They were sold to Americans by Africans who did take them at gunpoint & sailed them to America. So the Africans did slavery to themselves. America just capitalized on the situation. And who wouldn't have, that is why our country is so great. If we let the black's take over, the entire USA will be no better than Africa, which really sucks. Trust me, I know.

This is funny. Some idiot posted the long story at the begining about how "the white man" stole everything from the natives and how we supposedly "owe" so many appoligies. Well, here's the deal. Number one, we didn't steal anything from the natives. The Europeans came over and conquered this land centuries ago. That's how things were done then. It's not like we are doing that right now. Second, so what if Russia got the short end of the stick on Alaska. Who gives a s**t! And, why should dumb ass Obama go around appoligizing for it. It was many years ago and those people aren't even alive anymore. Get over it. Third, isn't it funny how so many people move to this country every day because this country offers them "the best life". We offer them freedom, equal rights, and opportunites beyond their imagination and then they have the gall to bitch and complain about us. You moved to our country! If you don't like it, GET THE F**K OUT! Go try Russia. Bet you won't get any freedoms there. If you are having trouble leaving my country, I would be happy to deport your sorry ass on the first plane out of here.
Go away! Leave us alone! AND, stop F-ing with our holidays!! It's called CHRISTMAS! Deal with it or shut up!

What if we went to another country, say Afganistan, and started bitching about how they don't give Christmas enough attention? What do you think would happen to that person? He would most likely be killed within minutes of making that coment and dragged through the streets for the world to see.
