Venezuela - The Triumph of Socialism
Posted by Gregory of Yardale at November 11, 2009 5:50 AM
When Marxist President Hugo Chavez took power in Venezuela, he came in on an agenda of hope and change, promising to correct disparities in society by redistributing wealth. The energy sector was the first of many sectors of the economy to be nationalized, with the promise that the state would run it more efficiently by eliminating greed and profits and running it for the people's benefit.
This country may be an energy colossus, with the largest conventional oil reserves outside the Middle East and one of the world’s mightiest hydroelectric systems, but that has not prevented it from enduring serious electricity and water shortages that seem only to be getting worse. Power failures have plagued Venezuela in recent years.
President Hugo Chávez has been facing a public outcry in recent weeks over power failures that, after six nationwide blackouts in the last two years, are cutting electricity for hours each day in rural areas and in industrial cities like Valencia and Ciudad Guayana. Now, water rationing has been introduced here in the capital.
When Marxist President Barack Obama took power in the USA, he came in on an agenda of hope and change, promising to correct disparities in society by redistributing wealth. The health care sector was the first targeted for "reform," with the promise that the state would run it more efficiently by eliminating greed and profits and running it for the people's benefit.
How well does one expect that to work out?

In the '40s and '50s, "the smart money" invested in companys that had contracts with Venezuela. Now, I wouldn't invest TEN CENTS in that country.
