UCLA Students Nearly Riot Over Skyrocketing Fees

Posted by Van Helsing at November 20, 2009 6:02 PM

History shows that there are limits to the greed and incompetence people will tolerate from their rulers. Our current kakistocracy is pushing those limits to the last extreme. When the dam breaks, there's a good chance it will be in California, a state that moonbat bureauweenies have economically ruined. Recently, the liberal kleptocrats jacked up withholding by 10% on paychecks. They've gotten away with it — for now. They've also increased University of California fees by 32%. The reaction at UCLA:

The public is finally beginning to come to a boil.

On a tip from AlphaOmega.

The Commies are comming. This might be how the purge starts? Glad you posted this I just did in the open thread only moments ago.

Of the 45 goals of Communism in the USA that I know about all of the schools are a component of the Communist Party and these apparent economic confrontations are a tool for the Oligarchy to instigate conflicts between rich and poor, sick and well, white and black and on and on and on. You can bet that at some point the oligarchy (government) will step in and force what they want to be the decision on all involved. This also shows the truth that most of us have known for a long time that this is no recession but a deep depression. This will add to the drama and conflict and when they are ready, the government will swoop in to play the role of our only hope! This you can count on!

Posted by: AlphaOmega at November 20, 2009 6:20 PM

These students seem awfully hypocritical protesting tuition hikes. The government's increased extortion of funds from its citizens is something the vast majority of campus kids support after all. I guess they just assumed it would always be someone else paying the price for socialist ideals.

California is proof just saying no no no no no no no, it's mine! is not a strategy for a healthy community or economy.

Also that bad actors make bad governors (and presidents if I remember correctly, thou it took a while to show it's effect, didn't it?)

The UC riots are a good example of what happens when decades of moonbattery leave government too broke to continue to subsidize special interests.

In 2009, the average tuition fees for a four year school were $7020 per year. Before the UC hike, UC fees were $7800 per year. Now, they are $10,300 per year.

UC campuses are:

1. In an expensive state
2. In the expensive areas of an expensive state
3. The cost of living index in Berkeley is 186.4. In LA, it is 162.0. The national index is 100.0.
4. The UC system has to pay professors more, because professors have to put up with the high cost of living in California.
5. The UC system is burdened with ludicrous pension costs driven by corrupt state employee unions.
6. The UC system is much more liberal in subsidizing tuition than other systems (tuition fees reflect what is paid by those who actually pay)
7. The UC system is plagued with administrative inefficiency.
8. The UC system is plagued with all sorts of goofy mandates.

All this, and UC students still expect their tuition to remain roughly on par with the national average?

The only reason tuition was so close to the average is because working California taxpayers were footing the massive bill for this.

Now that the state is broke, those taxpayers shouldn't get the shaft for the services they paid for, all so students can sit around smoking dope and protesting.

For those students who are using education as an investment, they will have no problem paying back loans with the large earnings advantage conferred by a valuable degree. Somebody who gains a ~$1M lifetime earnings advantage can afford an extra $2500 per year, and shouldn't be on educational welfare from the taxpayer prior to launching a well-paid career.

For those students who are using education as a four year vacation, stop mooching off the taxpayers.

Because everyone has a RIGHT to a college education.

Posted by: coo coo ca choob at November 20, 2009 6:39 PM

Fun Fact: UC Berkeley has an "Office of Sustainability" that has developed an expensive green initiative.

The school just finished dealing with expensive tree sitters, that made legal/construction costs skyrocket.

Enviromoonbattery has a price. It appears that UC Berkeley students want others to make their eco-sacrifices for them.

Posted by: Anonymous Countermoonbat at November 20, 2009 6:40 PM

Oh hell. Like they really care what Mommie or Daddy pays for them to go to the school.

They are just worked up because the liberal unionized teachers showed them the way..... or, as in Berkeley, someone threatened to cut a couple of trees down.....

It is now much cheaper to send a kid from CA to a great out of state private school, like BYU, where they will get a great education and minimal socialization.

People wonder why the middle and upper middle class are fleeing CA in droves..............

Hear that sucking sound Sacramento? Yes, the other sucking sound, not coming from the Castro district of San Franfreakshow. The sucking sound of the top 5% of CA taxpayers taking their lives and $$ across the state border............away.

On paper you are correct but in the video we see a planned out demonstration that like the other video with the Communists beating the protestors this is more of the same. The proletarians must rise up and smash the bourgeoisie. That is all this is and the economic realities act like a draft board.

Posted by: AlphaOmega at November 20, 2009 6:43 PM

The Tree Sit:

The tree-sit was initiated and led by Zachary RunningWolf, a community activist and former Berkeley mayoral candidate. RunningWolf said that construction of the athletic center would be "a hate crime; we call it Guantánamo Berkeley". He also has said that the Illuminati and the Masons are conspiring to build the center because "the grove is at the intersection of compass lines connecting the Haas School of Business (money) with Alcatraz (state violence) and the Lawrence Berkeley lab that gave America nukes".

As of November 2007 the university had spent $125,000 for private security guards at the grove, $100,000 in covering costs incurred by the University of California Police Department (UCPD) that were not part of their normal on-duty operations, and $117,000 in building two fences around the grove. As of April 5, 2008 the cost to UCPD had reached $300,000.

he university claimed that each day of delay cost $47,000 in additional security and increases in construction costs

What did the university do when these moonbats were finally not running up the bills? It built a $125 million "Student Athlete High Performance Center"

Note to Morons:

This is liberal policy turned against itself. CA is a blue state of course and there are fewer bedrocks of liberalism more hard-headed than UCLA.

So pay liberals, pay up and shut your pie holes.

You're getting nothing more than what you've demanded for the rest of the country by allowing your state to become a stronghold for illegal immigrants, voting for BO and electing brainless local, racists to represent you, you fascist bunch of hypocrites.

Look if you don't like a 32% increase, move to NY where the taxpayer pays to raise your horrific offspring social infections in daycare centers, so that you can get pursue your lousy state-subsidized degrees in Diversity Training and Poo Artistry.

And here, we in NY have a surplus of your kind, lobotomized mouth-breathers to keep you company in state-subsidized housing. And look... Here, you don't need an "education". You can all easily sit on the dole for decades (those are sets of 10 years), waiting to celebrate each new tax increase.

For those of you who can read, or at least can read in English, it should now be obvious that when the costs of liberal stupidity, pandering and eentitlementes hit home, and you have to do what you've prescribed for everyone else to do: i.e., "open your wallets"; "distribute the wealth"; "in the name of fairness, etc", the whole scene shifts.
Now your copy of Saul Alinsky doesn't read so well, does it?

Does it?
You pathetic bunch of brainless, pansy dipwads.
Look you maggots, go to the polls and vote constructively next time instead of voting for liberals. Try voting conservative fiscal policies instead of rioting, you idiotic parasitic verminous waste products.

I speet on you and your eentitlementes.

It never occurs to University bureaucrats to eliminate the need to raise tuition by lowering their costs; for example, by firing anyone with the word "Diversity" in their job description (who are, ipso facto, useless) and eliminating useless courses like 'Womyn's Studies,' 'LGBT Studies,' and anything else that prepares a student majoring in that field to do nothing in life except teach courses in that field or work at a job with "Diversity" in the job description.

Consider this for a moment people. Another way to describe Communism is the term of Demand Destruction. Yet another way to describe it is two men disagree but keep the peace. A third man arrives and talks up the fight and instigates so that the situation degrades. Soon enough the peace evaporates and the two men fight until only one or none remains. Later on, the instigator comes to inspect his product and finds that he now possesses all of the property of one or both losers yet has not last any blood or even worked up a sweat… That is Communism

BRAVO, SIR! Precisely what I was thinking! And I'm guessing that none of these fine young folks have ever been to a Tea-party rally where they would have learned the proper way to protest. However, behaving like Tea-partiers also would have limited their press-time and they'd have been swept under the rug (or the bus).

These spoiled brats have a lot of brass. If they weren't too stoned to vote, you just KNOW they pulled the lever for Obama. They just LOVE the "health care" bill. They can't WAIT for cap & tax. They DETEST big business.

So when their beloved government costs THEM money for the first time (or more likely mom and dad's money...which means less spending cash for them) OHHHH! Bwawawah! NOT FAIR! We wanna get high and have our iPods and Prius' and EVERYTHING WE WANT BECAUSE WE WANT IT!

(Wait until these water-heads find out what Obama care is going to cost THEM! Will their "rock star" god be so cool THEN? I wouldn't count on it.)

Just look at what the police in this video are facing. Basically the dreak of society, total scumbags who voted to take from anyone who had a dime more than they have.

Scumbags, the police should have just opened fire and gave them all high velocity lead poisoning.

Read for yourself people....

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

Maybe the students could make extra money by spitting in the faces of perverts they meet at MySpace.

A 39-year-old Southern California man has been arrested for misdemeanor child annoyance after allegedly paying a teenager $31 to spit in his face. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department says Charles Hersel was arrested Wednesday in a sting operation at a mall in Thousand Oaks. He's free from jail pending a court hearing.
A sheriff's statement says Westlake High School students claimed Hersel paid them to yell profanities, spit and slap him in the face. Several also claimed he offered them cash to urinate and defecate on him.
A motive wasn't clear.

This is what will happen when the Obama people start to realize that they will be contributing to the promised Utopia, not just the rich people.

$10,000 for a year! With my kids about to go to college, I'd be dancing to the bank if that is all it cost. Then with my extra money I would invest it to lower my carbon foot print so Al could get richer.

President Zero argued that public universities were a good comparison to his health care proposal:
"They argue that these private companies can’t fairly compete with the government. And they’d be right if taxpayers were subsidizing this public insurance option. But they won’t be. I’ve insisted that like any private insurance company, the public insurance option would have to be self-sufficient and rely on the premiums it collects. But by avoiding some of the overhead that gets eaten up at private companies by profits and excessive administrative costs and executive salaries, it could provide a good deal for consumers, and would also keep pressure on private insurers to keep their policies affordable and treat their customers better, the same way public colleges and universities provide additional choice and competition to students without in any way inhibiting a vibrant system of private colleges and universities."

UC just raised tuition 32%. They admit fewer students at higher costs every year. Anyone doubt that if UC took over every private college in the state, that they wouldn't be raising fees and limiting enrollment there, too?
Welcome to Obamacare!

One of those clowns on the news shouted out that education should be free. Does that mean all their moonbat professors will "work for free"???

Posted by: John Ttitor at November 20, 2009 9:17 PM

Okay...

I will say (not in defense of moonbats or anyone else) that college kids DO tend to get caught up in the "excitement of the moment". That was probably the biggest 'rush' of the semester for many of those kids, and they could have cared less what it was about - just being part of it gave them an adrenalin rush like they'd never had.

E.g. - When I was a young lad at "university", (1974) one night on campus a guy got popped for streaking. (For you young folks, that's being arrested for running around in public without a hint of clothing).

This school was over 40,000 kids even back then. There was a huge crowd (me included) out - and when this kid got popped everyone "rushed" the campus cop. He panicked, pulled his gun and stuck it to the head of the nekkid guy he was trying to arrest - kinda like "come any closer and I'll blow his brains out". Ooooo. Stupid, stupid, stupid thing to do. The crowd dispersed to save the poor nekkid guys life - but moved to another part of campus and began turning over campus police cars and making a general nuisance.

When it was all over, the campus cop was working (unarmed) as a mall cop, the nekkid guy paid a $40 fine, and there was a REAL mess to clean up on campus.

Moral of the story... Uhmmm... Sorry - I don't have one. But please remember - maybe 10% of the kids in the video were actually 'enraged' about the increase in tuition - the rest were there for the rush. Slap your kids and call them stupid.

Posted by: Jimbo at November 20, 2009 9:36 PM

Don't kid yourself, Oiao. BYU does plenty of socialization, just on the opposite end of the spectrum.

This is all you need to know about the increases in tuition: http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2009/11/20/california-grubbing/

Posted by: I'm A Lasagna Hog at November 20, 2009 9:41 PM

I hope they riot all the time and get the government to do something. The conservatives have such a good chance to take back everything. Someone needs to explain to these kids what is going on around them. Now is the time. Sure they are stupid but it is all most of them know.

It is time they got a good education

I understand what you are saying about LDS type socialization, and that anyone attending BYU is in fact being, technically, socialized. That is my point.

Whereas most parents actually know and accept the type of mores and morals that BYU will attempt to instill on the child they send (granted, still some liberal tint since teachers are involved), this is quite different than CA public schools and UCs truly Socializing the youth.

Same word in the use of the Webster's definition of socialization yet with an entirely different context in its meaning for correct or incorrect.

I am not advocating LDS values so much as using that commonly understood BYU - LDS context to make the contrast of true unabated socialism in the CA UC system to a private school where parents and the youth choose the type of direction and belief system they wish to be led to.

BYU is a much better school than UC Berkeley.

In order for the oligarchy in charge to build a new world, they must first destroy the old. In order to do so the turn brother against brother and father against son and let the population destroy itself. Later on, the Oligarchy emerges in complete power and control of a new world purged of LIBERTY, INDIVIDUALITY and FREEDOM. Communism is not a government system but a population control and disposal system used by oligarchies the world over. Our republic happens to be an irreplaceable jewel!

What? No trolls on this thread? I wonder why......

They must all be on other threads spouting anti-Palin hatred or something.

Either that, or there is no way they can figure out how to "Blame Bush" for this.

BTW, I was the youngest kid in my family, and I paid for my name-brand Philadelphia university education myself. It took me a couple of years after high school to save the money, but I did it.

A university education was expensive then; now it's out of sight. I've been telling my 16 year old that joining the Delaware National Guard when the time comes just might be a really good idea......

The violence is all Liberal Left-Wing college Democrats.

Compare that to the Tea Party protests and you can see the difference in style. TEa Parties are clean and non-violent.

To me, that is the biggest point here:
Pelosi fears violence from "The Right" but it's always "The Left" that breaks things.
And then they blame it on Republicans. A pattern? Hell yes it is.

This is blasphemy to liberals, but in an age of technology, the university is an outmoded concept. The idea of gathering young people in places so that they an be instructed by a self-selected wise and learned elite is so eighteenth century. Outside of the hard sciences, engineering, medicine, and maybe business programs the modern university is less a place of learning and more a monastery to liberalism.

So, the cost of a liberal education skyrockets as its practical market value diminishes. And people will catch on.

Gee... they might have to go out in the real world and get a job to pay for their rent and food. Poor babies. Life can be so cruel at times. Ha Ha.

I wish they'd raise tuition to 50,000 a year. Then only those getting useful degrees like business majors and scientists would be populating our schools instead of all these stupid, vapid Arts Majors with "degrees" in 'black studies', 'womens studies', 'communications', and my all time favorite - 'education' [what an oxymoron that is].

It seems liberals display many fixations of early childhood development. An infant first derives pleasure from their warm bowel movements. Pressure is relieved and urges temporarily satisfied. However, after a while they begin to feel the discomfort of having to lie in their own mess at which point they begin to cry for someone else to clean up their mess since they are incapable of doing it themselves.

Pay close attention to California now. It is the picture of things to come. The way this seems to work is that the students are organized through a organization just like a worker’s party. They represent the proletariat. On the other side is the school that is also communist but the financial system behind the school represents the bourgeoisie and the old way of doing things.

What happens now through their actions is that the protestors generate sympathy and in a way wind up recruiting more proletarians. These factions will eventually clash. The unarmed protestors will be crushed by the heavy-handed police of the bourgeoisie.

The media who is Communist controlled, will show images to the public from the point of view of the protestors and paint the property owners as the "Big Problem" with their 32% increases. Do you follow where I am going with this?

It's Saul Alinsky's troops who have now hit the ground running......commies to the core. Since this is yesterdays scroll I'll put a rather lenghty response I sent to Chas. Lifson, publisher of American Thinker, in regards to an article he put in AT a couple of days ago.

I hope the following will add strong credence to Mr. Lifson’s implication:

Mr. Lifson has proven not only to be an assiduous editor and publisher but also an insightful psychologist. Many may cry ‘conjecture’ but I feel Mr. Lifson has hit the mark. I firmly believe this timeframe and circumstance fostered Obama’s initial formation of a world view.

I also believe Obama realized he could transform his view into action—political action—when he attended Occidental College in 1979-80. ‘Oxy’ as it was called was arguably one of the hotbed radical-left campuses on the West Coast (Reed/Portland, Berkeley). This campus was assuredly the most pro-SDS (Students for a Democratic Society).

Barack Obama gave his first public speech at Oxy to a group called the Students for Economic Democracy, the on campus version of the SDS. The speech was on ‘Anti-Apartheid’ (the core of SDS belief) and he was asked to give it by David Peck, then SDS member, and future (28 years later) 2008 campaign coordinator of Americans for Obama in Spain.

I personally believe this is where Obama met Bill Ayers and other members of the SDS. Ten years earlier a group of SDS radicals declared war on the United States and they were still around during Obama’s Oxy years (some running from the FBI) and it is only logical that they would gravitate (and some admittedly did) to the nexus of SDS involvement in the West. You may now recognize some of the SDS member’s names of that time period who are now prominent in the Obama political sphere.

Wade Rathke, violent SDS radical founder of ACORN, founder of local 100 of SEIU, and co-founder of the Tides Foundation; Jeff Jones, SDS member who co-founded the militant ‘Weather Underground’ wing of SDS who is now director of NY’s chapter of the Apollo Alliance which helped write the 2009 ‘Stimulus’ legislation; Carl Davidson, national secretary of the SDS, who organized Obama’s 2002 anti-war rally and whose New Party campaigned for Obama in Chicago, and, who co-authored a book with past SDS national Security Chief Marilyn Katz, who worked in Obama’s 2008 campaign as a public relations maven, and who is a close friend of Valerie Jarrett and Michelle Obama. Katz supports Code Pink and MoveOn.org.

Last but not least is Bill Ayers. A former member of the SDS and violent Weather Underground who either organized or participated in at least twenty-two bombings or fire bombings of government buildings, and who initially denied knowing Obama, now admits he helped write Obama’s book “Dreams From My Father”, and he admits Obama sat on at least four ‘tiny’ funds boards with either him, his (Ayer’s) father, or his (Ayer’s) brother. And while any and all pre-2008 election Obama/Ayers associations were vehemently disavowed, they now admit Michelle Obama had actually organized small community forums over the years, where she chose both Bill and Barack to sit side-by-side on tiny panels discussing issues with small audiences.

In short, I agree with Mr. Lifson that Obama’s personal world lens was opened in Indonesia, and I feel he developed his grand perspective in college, and now I believe, we are all seeing his big picture.

AlphaOmega...

If you can stomach some more, here is the 'first' page of a long article I wrote BEFORE last year's presidential election, trying to warn people of this impending disaster.

BETRAYAL: The attempt to dismantle Democracy

Behind the scenes, cloaked and virtually obscure for over thirty years, a determined and dedicated cabal has worked quietly and incessantly, formulating and building, maneuvering and manipulating, to get to this point in our history. Socialists and Marxists have always had their eye on America, but we’ve seen them coming and we’ve vanquished the threat. And they couldn’t succeed to any degree because they weren’t well organized. All of that changed in 1972. A book titled “Rules for Radicals”, written by a Socialist community-organizer turned radical-revolutionary, offered up an incendiary playbook which gave detailed marching orders to young violent radicals of the 1960’s. The instructions were to stop the violence, to be patient, to go underground, and to slowly work into teaching institutions and government, and when the time was right, to pounce. They are now poised. In this paper I hope to disclose how they got here, who they are, and if there’s anything we can do about it. I feel the fate of freedom and Democracy is in the balance.

Well written, thank you!

Pay attention people since in Communism nothing is what it appears to be. They will call you a capitalist but that describes the flow of goods and business. They will say that Communism is simply a philosophy and more of a labor union for the people. After a while, unless brought back to your senses you might start to sympathize with and believe them.

The USA was to be a republic and in the mid 1800's a railroad lawyer named Lincoln started what amounts to being the USA's first Communist Revolution. Under Abe's belt feel nearly a million from the north and south. As time has elapsed, it has only gotten worse.

We are trained in schools that are all part of the Communist agenda. What is worse is that the ACLU is founded by two Communists and all said and done they play for a different team. Foreign nationals are allowed to enter the Nation and then even enter politics while still holding allegiance to another nation.

Even worse still if you wanted to split this scene and go to another country you will quickly learn that they are all essentially COMMUNISTIC. There is no place to run and well maybe you get the picture. You must at some point take a stand and maybe fall or convert and be a slave. In that, you will indeed fall even harder while locked in the betrayal of your REPUBLIC.

Got a link to the Lifson article, AlphaMail? On a quick look I don't see the article. Thanks.

Jay...

Since I'm hyperlink-defective simply type in:

www.americanthinker.com/

Scroll down slightly to Nov 20, 2009 article on left side, "Obama's Expatriot Years" by Thomas Lifson. He makes a case for Obama's world view (my term) being formed early in his Indonesia years...The world view I'll add that disses America.

I'm working on something big I found out today that might hit AT Monday...hopefully...if I can type fast enough. It's big..I hope it won't get drowned out in the health care vote. Tell you later.
