San Fransicko Bookstore Considers 'Going Rogue' Too Icky to Sell

Posted by Gregory of Yardale at November 20, 2009 4:26 PM

Some bookstore owners in the Bay Area of California are refusing to stock Sarah Palin's mega-bestseller because they don't want her cooties.

"Anything like that we wouldn't carry," said clerk Emily Stackhouse at Cover to Cover Books in San Francisco. "We're a small store and it would probably gross us all out. Some things you carry because of freedom of speech, but a book like that is just gross."

Are these hippies being narrow-minded and childish? You betcha. (Wink!)

The most provincial, narrow-minded city in the entire world

Then again maybe they just want to avoid the booing and chants of "Sarah sign our books!" as she ignores them and drives away on her bus.

Still waiting for the big earthquake to come along and squash these rotten bugs. When it does, don't call me.

I feel sorry for my few conservative friends that live in that area. They won't so bad to get out but can't for various reasons.

Posted by: Tom at November 20, 2009 5:35 PM

Hey, I grew up out there, my (ultra conservative) parents still live out there... despite the oh-so-very-many problems with SF, chief among them that they keep re-electing Pelousy, I STILL love SF.

I wonder if wacko-leftist City Lights Bookstore will carry "Going Rogue". If they do, then SF is just OK by me.

Posted by: pomalom at November 20, 2009 5:37 PM

The mind reels at the thought of books that these degenerates would carry though!! Free speech my pelosi

Posted by: Tomas at November 20, 2009 5:40 PM

I often refer to that festering pit of perversity as either "Sodom By The Sea" or "The Golden Gate Gomorrah", and trust me I've seen it all before. When the well deserved judgment finally comes from above, PLEASE Don't Look Back!!!!!!!

Posted by: Lot at November 20, 2009 5:44 PM

You can bet that "My Two Mommies" and "Fruity Homosexual Whips & Chains" are definite best-sellers in SF!

Posted by: Fuzzlenutter at November 20, 2009 5:45 PM

Lot...that is just, y'know SO Old Testament!

Posted by: robin at November 20, 2009 5:48 PM

As you well know, that's the way Americans talk these days, now that to be educated is to be"elite" ... remember Bush and his... illlucid babbling, strange, jerky facial expressions and "speech tone" that didn't match what he was saying? And just listen to Sarah herself talk... complete Alaska Valley Girl from Fargo ...but you BSCs love it because..."them's people like us". You Becha!

"A book like that is just gross."

These goodies, on the other hand, are worthy of Cover to Cover's fine brand:

You don't want San Franciscans to read about a significant political figure...but you do want them to know all about sexual addictions in gay men.

(Nothing against gay men, I just love freedom. For everybody.)

The booing is a fake meme being pushed and fomented by the ignoramuses of the Left.

Posted by: SK at November 20, 2009 6:09 PM

Well, to be fair, Teej it is their bookstore and they have the right to sell or not sell what they like. But their NOT selling her book says more about their Sarah Palin Derangement Syndrome than anything else.

Posted by: SK at November 20, 2009 6:11 PM

Posted by: SK at November 20, 2009 6:24 PM

Certainly. But I was surprised that the "gross" justification was the best they could do. Considering.

Posted by: Teej at November 20, 2009 6:25 PM

Agreed. Liberals have a very limited range of emotions as well as a limited vocabulary to express those emotions.

I have found the majority of liberals to be a gaggle of hebephrenic dullards.

Posted by: SK at November 20, 2009 6:41 PM

Ehhh. That's okay. Texans feel the same about "Dreams of My Father".

Posted by: Jules at November 20, 2009 6:54 PM

I think the point is two-fold.

1. Lefties always proclaim themselves to be more open-minded and tolerant than right-wingers; but refusing to sell Sarah Palin's books reveals them to be narrow-minded and intolerant.

2. Instead of being adults and saying, "We won't sell this book because we dislike the author," they say it's "gross," language more appropriate to middle school girls than alleged adults.

Posted by: Exit Pursued by a Bear at November 20, 2009 6:59 PM

I certainly don't want to visit and spend money in Damn Fransicko because.... well, they're just gross.

And robin, the deal with Palin being booed by the masses as she gets off the bus is flat out wrong.

Posted by: Atomic Lib Smasher at November 20, 2009 7:00 PM

I notice Palin has apologized for jumping on her bus and driving away before signing everyone's book. Oh goody she made it all better.

Posted by: robin at November 20, 2009 7:01 PM

Yes, a pathetic lib troll still insist on pushing their fake meme in the face of evidence that it is indeed a fake meme.

TLB = Typical Liberal Behavior.

I was under the impression you guys liked the free market? A business has the choice to carry any product they like, if it sells..great...if not, oh well. That is the free market.

Posted by: Anonymous at November 20, 2009 7:28 PM

Sarah's book would might connect them with the REAL world and their unicorns and rainbows would run away. ;-(

Posted by: TED at November 20, 2009 7:29 PM

I was under the impression YOU were against the free market so your sarcasm is useless.

Posted by: TED at November 20, 2009 7:32 PM

Rumor has it Sarah quit reading her own book halfway through...surprise,surprise!

Hey, retard. Did anyone hear suggest that the Government should force people to buy (or sell) Sarah Palin's book against their will? You know, like the progressives want to force everybody to buy overpriced health insurance against their will? Did anyone suggest that kind of Government intervention in the free market? No? Then shut your gorram retard mouth.

I guess Freedom of Speech and Expression are only good when they push your extreme, and shortsighted viewpoints.

Posted by: Rob M. at November 20, 2009 8:27 PM

No, but you guys are a flutter over it, and it is amusing.

Posted by: Anonymous at November 20, 2009 8:29 PM

No conservatives shop for books in that store anyhow, so they don't need to stock it. It would waste the space they need for non-icky books like 'Basket Weaving for Stoned People', 'Growing Marijuana in your Bathtub', 'How to live without Bathing', 'Bomb-building' by Billy "blow em up" Ayers, 'Fisting for First Graders', and 'How to Lie Successfully' by their little brown gawd.

Plus - I'm certain they have a complete wall dedicated to Algore and Muslim Jihadists.

No, Sarah's book wouldn't fit in there at all.

Posted by: Jimbo at November 20, 2009 8:35 PM

Then you missed my post @ 6:11 PM, Anony-jackass and Teej's concurrence.

Only a matter of time before the Big One send that cesspool into the Pacific.

And yet these SAN FRANSTINKHOLE book stores probibly carry books written by various revionist hisory wackos plent of copies of RACHEAL CARSONS junk science SILENT SPRING and pipe bomb construction maniuals but not SARA PALINS book HERES HOPING THEY ALL GO OUT OF BUISNESS

Posted by: SPURWING PLOVER at November 20, 2009 9:37 PM

Those profit seeking capitalist hippies should not turn down book sales!!

Posted by: Anonymous at November 20, 2009 11:21 PM

Many Cover to Cover regulars probably bought into the myth that Palin advocated book burnings. Now they're shopping at a store that refuses to put a book on sale because the author has a view point they do not like. No surprise. It comes with Palinoia, a clinically identified disease most often associated with an irrational fear of conservative women.

Posted by: tfhr at November 20, 2009 11:44 PM

In their defense, a private business can sell (or not sell) anything it pleases (within the applicable laws, of course).

That said, the bookstore is hurting itself more than it is hurting anyone else. The book was already a bestseller (that means 1 million + copies sold) before it was even officially released.

If the store's left-wing clientele are offended by the book, as the owner I'd tell them to suck it. Borders doesn't seem worried about offending ME by displaying the latest piece of garbage by Maureen Dowd, Jon Stewart, or Michael Moore...or whatever tell-all piece of crap has been offered up by some former Bush Administration "insider."

I have to wonder if making a political statement is worth the lost sales and revenue. People who run a business like that deserve to go broke.

Posted by: Cylar at November 21, 2009 3:31 AM

Who'd want to sell the number one book in America? Probably the number one book of the year? Maybe one of the top selling books of the decade?

Is it any wonder that California is broke? There isn't an ounce of common sense anywhere in the state.

Posted by: Rightwingmike at November 21, 2009 3:44 AM

Is it any wonder that California is broke? There isn't an ounce of common sense anywhere in the state.

No shit. Some of us actually have to live and work under the insanity that is Commiefornia.

If my entire family didn't live here, I'd have moved to Tennessee by now.

Posted by: Cylar at November 21, 2009 4:25 AM

No one here is attacking the book-sellers right to sell or not sell any book they want.

We're just pointing and laughing at their indignant childishness: "We won't sell her book because it's just 'gross'!"

Posted by: V the K at November 21, 2009 4:52 AM

I worked for different libraries and bookstores for years. Always, always they took pride in selling or loaning "banned books." Over and over I would hear how they were taking a stand against censorship, how every book should be available no matter how vile. And most stores and libraries live up to that ideal.

Looks like we've found some stores that don't.

Ah, well, it's their business, and they have the right to stock what they want. Still, it shows the shameless hypocrisy of many on the left.

Posted by: Evil Otto at November 21, 2009 7:55 AM

All of SAN FRANSTINKHOLE should fall into the pacific ocean and that includes their entire rotten city council and pitrid mayor

Posted by: Flu-Bird at November 21, 2009 8:41 AM

Good! I don't want leftist freaks making money on us anyhoo.

Posted by: JohnC. at November 21, 2009 9:34 AM

This is fine; businesses can do what they want on their dime. In the meantime, Amazon.com will be happy to take your order

Posted by: Max at November 21, 2009 9:57 AM

Palin's so unsophisticated. And besides, she's a doodyhead.

Posted by: robin at November 21, 2009 1:02 PM

hey v the k...
calling people a retard just because you didn't like what you read is really way off. It offends my child and millions like her. No matter what your politics, you shouldn't use the word retard to call people names.

Posted by: mike at November 22, 2009 3:17 PM

I'm surprised that they're not burning the book!

Posted by: BigJoe at November 23, 2009 7:08 AM

Whatcha wanna bet they probably never heard of Atlas Shrugged. And if they had, it would have been gross too with way too many fancy words.
