1. Do I want to believe it? Bias and agendas
2. How reliabe is the source? How can an actor tell me what is true about science
3. Corraborating evidence. The more extraordinary the claim, the greater the importance of supporting evidence.
4. Who benefits from my beliefs? follow the money, conflict of interests
5. Does the cliam make sense. What benefit is it to the medical profession to keep secrets from the public about possible cures for cancer and other illnesses?

In other words, internationally accepted techniques are used the world over, wherein mathematical constants derived as a function of geographical location of a measurement site can be used to adjust the data. So as a consequence, practically no published data supporting global warming appears without a Transformation Factor.

What could go wrong?

Well, we're just now starting to find out.

BTW there would be a legitimate way to derive an acceptable transformation factor for any given data set, but separate and lengthy experiments would have to be done in order to derive empirical data to support the derivation.

And of course, as indicated in the article, data from such work is usually going to be "unavailable", "lost", "extrapolated" or let us just say "censored".
