Mark Steyn on Environmental Totalitarianism
Posted by Gregory of Yardale at November 2, 2009 9:18 AM
Mark Steyn reviews progressive left environmentalist excesses -- the Cap and Trade bill that won't let you sell your house without approval from a government environmental bureaucrat, the travel restrictions proposed, and the intrusive monitoring systems in place in Airstrip One -- and concludes that Big Brother has arrived, not in a fascist uniform, but in a free-trade hemp shirt and organically-dyed jeans.
You float a rumour that George W. Bush is checking up on what library books you’re reading, and everyone goes bananas. But announce that a government monitoring device has been placed in every citizen’s trash can in the cause of “saving the planet,” and the world loves you.
At their Monday night poker game in hell, I’ll bet Stalin, Hitler and Mao are kicking themselves: “ ‘It’s about leaving a better planet to our children?’ Why didn’t I think of that?”
The Faustian bargain of the left is as follows: You exchange all of your other rights and freedoms for a promise of unlimited, consequence-free sexual gratification. The same progressive left that whines about "keeping government out of the bedroom" is more than willing to give the government absolute control over one's activities in all other aspects of life.

The left wants Brave New World. They will be totally free to do whatever stoned out idiocy they can dream up without any responsibility whatsoever.
In other words, they are nothing but a bunch of infantile, me, me, me drones sucking the lifeblood out of the country.
Now they want to encode that in the law and they're using this enviromental stuff to do it. In the mean time the rest of us adults are going to get roped off into The Reservation.
