Early Sesame Street Not PC Enough For Today's Rug Monkeys
Posted by Gregory of Yardale at November 5, 2009 6:20 AM
Today is the 40th Anniversary of the debut of Sesame Street, a multi-billion dollar marketing enterprise that makes reasonable people question why the hell PBS is still sucking up taxpayer dollars like a giant Hoover Varmint Vac. Google, of course, has marked the day with a special logo, since this occasion is neither patriotic nor acknowledges the brave sacrifice of American Veterans.
But as bottom-dwelling news network CNN notes, those early episodes of Sesame Street contained references to cookies and smoking that would shock the conscience of today's tweedy perpetually offended helicopter mom.
On the DVDs, Cookie Monster can be seen as his character of Alistair Cookie in his "Monsterpiece Theatre" segment (a spoof of Alistair Cooke's "Masterpiece Theatre") smoking a pipe.
Yep, Cookie Monster smoked.
Horrors! The article also notes that in 2006, Cookie monster cut back on the cookies, because the liberal do-gooders who make the show were convinced he was causing childhood obesity by encouraging kids to eat cookies. Note, however, the do-gooders were not so convinced that childhood obesity was a problem that they wanted the little crumb-crunchers to turn off the idiot box and go outside for a while.
As a result of these and other horrors (the original neighborhood was a bit untidy), the DVD release of those early episodes carries, naturally, a warning label
"These early 'Sesame Street' episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today's preschool child."
I love the "intended for grown-ups" part. If ever there were an admission that the typical PBS-pledging lib is an arrested state of development, that is it.
Also, who knew The Count Was Such a Potty Mouth?

Comments
Soooooooooo, they've gone and neutered all the Sesame Street characters...next we'll find out Miss Piggy is really a guy and Kermit is gay.

And Oscar the Grouch is "differently hygienic" and "residentially challenged"
Bert and Ernie are "domestic life partners"
And Elmo is up on sexual harrassment charges for encouraging the younguns to tickle him

Nunya, I think I heard in one of Dave Chappelle's old standup routines, he goes into a rant about how Oscar the Grouch is insulting towards the homeless or something like that (Yet apparently portraying all white men as wussy, dorky, emasculated losers and all white women as brainless whores whose only goal in life is to have sex with a black man is a-ok for him).
In the Masterpiece Theater segment the article references, I think I heard that it wasn't even a real pipe, but rather just a cookie shaped like a pipe!

They forgot to mention that the first episodes were also racist because that old white dude, Mr. Looper or Hooper or something was on there.

Did they get the idea for this from MST3K?
The muslims should approve of "Crazy Harry", the mad bomber muppet.

There used to be a ad for good nutrition featuring COOKIE MONSTER he was teaching kids about eating right but all the time there was this big front end loader approching at the end COOKIE MONSTER would blow a whistle and they dumped a big load of cookies on him

Kids are pussies, they need harsh lessons to make them appreciate the rough nature of the world, its good for them.

"intended for grown-ups" .... Of course they would say that because the average 3yr old has more common sense and uncorrupted brain-power than the average "grown-up" libtard.
I was 3yrs old when Sesame Street debuted. I watched it regularly and as a result, my reading and comprehension skills were above-average by the time I started kindergarten (no 'preschool' then!). I am neither a cookie addict nor a pipe-smoking theater critic after being "tainted" by the evils of the "early episodes" of Sesame Street.
The libtards have much more in common with the empty-headed puppets than their handlers.
