Counter-Moonbattery Alert: American Seniors Association Accepts Torn AARP Cards
Posted by The MaryHunter at November 5, 2009 12:55 PM
Are you sickened that "your AARP" has backed the counter-productive (to put it mildly) House PelosiCare/ObamaCare healthcare bill? There's something you can do: Not only can you tear up your AARP card and write AARP a note of protest, but you can send that trashed card to the American Seniors Association (ASA) for a great deal on membership:
ASA is allowing elderly citizens to mail in their torn AARP cards and receive a 2 year-for-1 year membership with the American Seniors Association.
This deal has been going since the summer but it deserves renewed attention. From the ASA website:
The American Seniors Association (ASA) invites any American Association of Retired Persons member to mail us your torn AARP card and receive a 2 year- for- 1 year membership with ASA. Our organization representing hundreds of thousands of members believes we need health care reform, but we want what is best for seniors. ASA wants to cut wasteful spending in Medicare. ASA wants to see the Congress work to curb frivolous lawsuits that drive up the costs of doctor’s malpractice insurance. Our system needs an overhaul, but we do not need expensive Obamacare or anything resembling it.
Good alternatives always come along in an open society with a competitive free market. So feel free to show the AARP that actions have consequences.
Hat tip: Mark Davis, sitting in for Rush.

I went to the AARP web site's forum and I would say 90% are against it. Most say they are leaving AARP.

Sounds good to me, but how many seniors are going to get ASA and AARP mixed-up? Remember, we're talking about seniors, for whom confusion and forgetfulness become increasingly common with age.

hyg are you saying that senoir citizens are useless? You'd make a great "death panel" czar for obooboo.

Not EVERYONE with AARP is confused and/or forgetful. AARP membership is offered to anyone aged 55 and older.

"hey you guys at November 5, 2009 1:13 PM"
Liberals tried that "old people are stupid" crap durring the 2000 election. It didn't fly then, it doesn't fly now.

Heck, K, there are plenty of people aged well under 55 who are confused and/or forgetful. I imagine that at least 40% of those 53% of voters who voted for Obama are below age 55.

AARP offers membership at 50 these days.
I got my membership solicitation in the mail when I turned 50 this year. Someone once told me it was now an insurance company so I had waited to join. Now I'll never join.

HYG is confusing age for liberalism, he demonstrates who the confused one is?

Stupid lefty attacks the largest voting block in this country. Continue HYG, we'll see you in 2010.
Have the Democrats forgotten that Baby Boomers are the largest voting block in this country?

Go Silver Foxes! That is so cool they are doing that. Kudos to ASA as well for that generous 2-fer-1 offer. :)
I'm a few years away yet from qualifying for membership in either organization, but I hope when I get there that ASA will still be available to me as an alternative.

When I get their solicitations from AARP, I cut up as much paper as I can stuff into their return, PAID envelope and send it back to them. Nothing with my name on it, and I hope that they have to pay postage because of the weight of the envelope. I wouldn't join them if they were giving free dinners away.

Thought HYG got his rear end handed to him well enough yesterday. Some trolls never learn...

HYG is a racist, antisemite and an ageist, too. What a complete and utter shock!

Alphabet Soup of Health Care Delusions
No, there is nothing bipartisan about it.Republicans literally have been shut out of the House legislative process and no major Republican ideas were allowed into any of the current bills. This legislation is solely about the expansion of government, without consideration for any market or individual mechanisms to save costs and expand coverage.
The legislation also will be disastrous for senior citizens. The bill enacts $426billion in cuts to Medicare and other federal programs and $572 billion in tax increases (apart from the mandate tax), much of which will fall on seniors.
The bill also will lead to de facto rationing, most of which will fall on seniors, as "bending the cost curve" leads to bureaucratic decision-making and guidelines as to the worth of a life later in life relative to the cost of care.
I really hate to use the word "lying" because it is so overused. So I'll say that AARP is not being "fully accurate in its presentation, as it must be aware" when it makes such statements in its press release and public relations campaign.

I would never have joined AARP anyway; I've known them to be leftards from back in the 80's when I first started paying attention to them. Their positions never made sense to me.

I like to come back here every day for my usual horsewhipping. My day isn't complete without people making a complete mockery of my views, and me making an ass out of myself.

HYG-- Old people do not forget or forgive as the Dems will find out in 2010. Go smoke more than usual, stand on a bridge, and see if you can fly!

HA!...My wife, who just turned (a very hot) 50, received an AARP membership solicitation in the mail today. We had a blast ripping the card in half and writing them a little note on the back of their form letter (nope, it wasn't pretty), and mailing it back at their expense. We made sure they know why, want them to know who we are, and promised to do the same in the future.
Posted by: Miscreant at November 6, 2009 6:06 PM
The AARP this week betrayed senior citizens by getting in bed with the Big O crowd. Where will we be when $500 billion is cut from medicare. Oh, yeah, we can just buy a MEDIGAP policy, which AARP sells! With medicare, medigap and part d drugs, I pay over $200 a month premiums.

For all the whoopla about members of the AARP who are advcating leaving that organization, it should be noted that many of those advocates on the AARP website ARE NOT AARP members.
Their membership status is available/accessible on the AARP website, but for those who are not interested in fact-based information...feel free to continue mis-representing FACTS
