Rooting for America to Fail

Posted by Gregory of Yardale at October 2, 2009 6:07 PM

Chairman Zero personalized the Olympics bid. He made it about himself. And his fluffers in the media obediently bought into it. Obama needed a win to distract from his foreign and domestic policy failures. So, he put his prestige on the line and fell flat on his silly face. And it is only natural to take pleasure when arrogant people are brought down by their own hubris.

Unable to deal with the failure of the Obamessiah, lefties are accusing the rest of us of delighting not in the failure of Obama's arrogance, but in the failure of America itself. These are not the same thing. But even if we were, all we would be celebrating is that a two-week long party would be held some place other than Chicago. No big whoop.

It's not like we would be rooting for the kind of failure that would result in the deaths of American soldiers, like certain lefties did during the Iraq War. Like, for example, Gary Kamiya writing in Salon:

I have a confession: I have at times, as the war has unfolded, secretly wished for things to go wrong. Wished for the Iraqis to be more nationalistic, to resist longer. Wished for the Arab world to rise up in rage. Wished for all the things we feared would happen. I'm not alone: A number of serious, intelligent, morally sensitive people who oppose the war have told me they have had identical feelings.
Wishing for things to go wrong is the logical corollary of the postulate that the better things go for Bush, the worse they will go for America and the rest of the world.

I don't feel bad for laughing at the failure of Obama and his media cult. No one had to die in order for Obama to fail in bringing the Olympics to Chicago. On the other hand, I do have to wonder if any lives could have been saved if the Daley political machine had put its time and resources into dealing with the epidemic of violent crime in his city, instead of chasing Olympic glory.

Good one Van.

This thread sums up how I feel and the rest of my fellow conservatives.

Thanks.

For the second time in my adult life I am ashamed that an infantile electorate has gotten their way. It has taken over thirty years for some to realize to their first mistake. So much for hope.

The more Obama and his Chicago mob fails the more the America we know and love wins.

Sorry......Thanks Gregory.

"On the other hand, I do have to wonder if any lives could have been saved if the Daley political machine had put its time and resources into dealing with the epidemic of violent crime in his city, instead of chasing Olympic glory."

DAMN RIGHT! Of course that would cut into the cops and politicians bribe and kick back income so it ain't gonna happen in Chicago.

There we go! A good thing about Obama. You don't have to wish he is going to fail. You don't have to even have evil thoughts about him and his works. It will happen as absolutely and surely as gravity will be present in the vicinity of a body with mass. As surely as a vacuum that is open in the presence of gas will fill. As surely as oxygen, dry paper, and 800 degrees centigrade temperatures will cause combustion. He will fail. And all you have to do is watch. Enjoyment is optional.

Now as to the destruction of people and things, of wealth and happiness, of wars and famine, of lifetimes of work building companies, careers, and reputations that are destroyed when he succeeds even a little, enjoyment is obscene.

don't forget to renew your voter registration card, rally whomever you can, and throw most of the donks in congress on their keisters. and don't forget fellow conservatives: we aren't anti-black, we're anti-bullshit.

I couldn't figure out at first whether I wanted the olympics here in Chicago. But seeing Obama flying in like Mighty Mouse to save the day - I was glad he could not convince the IOC that his words were all they needed to hear. Obama needed to be knocked down a peg. And it was all I, I, I. What a joke.

The bike helmet flying is awesome.

I think there is T-Shirt potential in that statement.

Janie... exactly "Here I come to save the day..."

Let us ALL chant with the children:
Mmm, mmm, mmm!
Barack Hussein Obama
He said we must be fair today
Equal work means equal pay

Mmm, mmm, mmm!
Barack Hussein Obama
He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance

Mmm, mmm, mmm!
Barack Hussein Obama
He said red, yellow, black or white
All are equal in his sight

Mmm, mmm, mmm!
Barack Hussein Obama

Yes!
Mmm, mmm, mmm!
Barack Hussein Obama

America failed when we allowed the commie POS to desecrate the office of the President.
The more Obama fails the more America wins.
Ahh, schadenfreude never smelled so sweet.

It appears that the IOC is racist.

Can you imagine that the Zeros actually thought the fact the michelle watched the olympics with her dad (which she probably didn't) would move the committee?i have never seen two more self absorbed people in my life.

If I thought for a second that our president would have flown to Copenhagen to lobby for, say, Cincinnati or Denver or Dallas or Charlotte, I would have been rooting for the games to be awarded to the US even with the trip taking 2 freaking planes and costing taxpayers well over 1 million dollars, and nonwithstanding Michelle Obama's heroic sacrifice in going there herself. At this time, however, when nearly half the citizens IN CHICAGO were against the olympics being held there, when anti-olympic sentiment was banned in the runup to the vote today, and with our Dear Leader being seen to be paying back the corrupt city bosses, the patronage that he was fostered in, I unfortunately cannot find it in my heart to be at all sorrowful for this loss.

Some of the payback being spoken of by Chicago citizens includes:

"# Chicago Mayor Richard Daley was a prominent backer of Barack Obama. To reward him with the Olympic Games, considering the pay-to-play nature of Windy City politics and the union-heavy construction needed in advance of 2016, would be the ultimate return of favor.
# Patrick Ryan was co-chair of Barack Obama's presidential inaugural committee. He currently serves at the head of the Chicago 2016 bid committee.
# David Axelrod, senior adviser to the president, still is owed $2 million by AKPD Message and Media, a public relations firm he founded and still the employer of his son. AKPD's services have been retained by the nonprofit organization established to lure the Games to the Windy City.
# Valerie Jarrett, so close to the president and First Lady that she describes them as "family," served as vice chair of the bid committee until she was tapped for a position in the White House. Jarrett is the former president and CEO of The Habitat Company, a real estate firm which stands to clean up financially considering its holdings in Olympic-relevant properties. Jarrett, along with another bid committee member, also met with folks at HUD about financing the billion-dollar Olympic Village housing project.
# Penny Pritzker is another close friend of Barack and Michelle Obama, and her Pritzker Realty Group could, like Jarrett's Habitat, reap financial benefit from Olympics-relevant development."

"A poll released this month by the Chicago Tribune showed residents almost evenly split, with 47 percent in favor of the bid and 45 percent against; that's a drop from the 2-1 support the newspaper found in a February poll.

"Members of a group called No Games Chicago ... headed to Copenhagen to tell the IOC that Chicago is in such financial straits that it cannot afford the games and is such a hotbed of political corruption that it doesn't deserve them."

"For others, concerns about taxes have only intensified since Mayor Richard Daley flip-flopped in April, telling the IOC he'd sign a contract promising the city would take full financial responsibility for the games after long maintaining he wouldn't.

"For a lot of people that was definitely a major moment, when they said, `Wait a minute, we're going to be ... on the hook financially for a very large amount,'" said Anna Tarkov, who writes The Daily Daley blog and opposes the bid.

Organizers have tried to allay such fears, but it can be a tough sell at a time of headline-grabbing corruption cases, the biggest one involving former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich — a Chicagoan accused of trying to sell President Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder.

"I just think that the history of corruption sets the stage for a brutal series of events like misuse of funds and insider dealings," said Brian Hayes, 53, of Chicago."

You speak of the jobs this would bring ... every city in North America that has hosted the olympics has ended up broke and deep in debt. Toronto took 30 years to pay off the debt. Atlanta is still paying as is Mexico City. The jobs that the Olympics brings are local only and at the cost of potentially permanent jobs elsewhere as the money to pay for the infrastructure is largely wasted, the venues going unused after the olympics passes.

In addition I have ties to Brazil, having worked there, had a girlfriend from the country, have known the people and admired them. I have heard of high crime in Rio, have heard it is unsafe, I havent been there but in Fortaleza where there was no appreciable danger and the people were fabulous. I wish Brazil and the people all the best with the games there.

Speaking of US interests, it is arguably IN THE US INTERESTS for Rio to be the host. Brazil is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, they are rather more pro US than many countries in the region, they have been a moderating influence and are beginning to get a handle on the decimation of the Amazon jungle, are nearly independent of gasoline, they are our 6th largest supplier of oil, and having a free democratic and America leaning powerhouse in S. America is not all bad. Besides, as I may have mentioned, I like the country and the people.

Thx to abc, nbc, cbs, fox, redstate, america's right, malkin, Newsvine, many other sources...

Also, thx to the fine people I worked with and was friends with in Brazil.

"One of the things that I think is most valuable about sports is that you can play a great game and still not win,"

"GREAT GAME"? Will Slick ever stop patting himself on the back?

He failed to attribute the quote but I'm giving long odds that it WASN'T Vince Lombardi!

But I'm forgetting there are no losers in obamerica!

Haha good one chummer. It seems Barry's losing the only thing that actually helps him, his speeches. Since he has no actual weight in the world and more than half the US disaproves of him, he'll be reduced to a defensive demagogue in less than six months. If he wants to hear crowds roaring with his name, he'll need to pander only to the blacks in America (Who frankly, would vote for him even if he spent the whole speech pissing on the first row)

Next time some lib gives you "you hate america because you cheered when we didn't get the olympics" shit, just remind them that at least we didn't root for our country TO LOSE A WAR for a party's political gain, like they did

Obama’s Olympic failure will only add to doubts about his presidency

Amen. My thoughts exactly. I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it.

I noticed that Obama didn't lobby for the Summer Games to be held in America, he lobbied for Chicago specifically. Not New York, Houston, Phoenix, Tallahassee, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, or Seattle. I doubt any of his aides even asked the question, "If we want the Olympics in the US again, what city is best-suited for that purpose, taking into account all the relevant factors?" No. It was Chi-town.

His hometown. His old stomping ground. The city where you will find his strongest supporters and all the cronies who helped him get where he is, who evidently think the Games are going to do good things for their political careers and their wallets.

THAT is what burned me. That is why I was happy Obama's bid lost. Don't give me any of this "rooting against America" bull.

When a left-winger says that to me, I'm going to answer, "You dare lecture ME on patriotism? Real American patriots don't vote for candidates who promise to dismantle all of the country's founding institutions, and who then proceed to do exactly that onces elected. The Games couldn't have less to do with being pro-America, you moonbat douche."
