Rooting for America to Fail

Posted by Gregory of Yardale at October 2, 2009 6:07 PM

Chairman Zero personalized the Olympics bid. He made it about himself. And his fluffers in the media obediently bought into it. Obama needed a win to distract from his foreign and domestic policy failures. So, he put his prestige on the line and fell flat on his silly face. And it is only natural to take pleasure when arrogant people are brought down by their own hubris.

Unable to deal with the failure of the Obamessiah, lefties are accusing the rest of us of delighting not in the failure of Obama's arrogance, but in the failure of America itself. These are not the same thing. But even if we were, all we would be celebrating is that a two-week long party would be held some place other than Chicago. No big whoop.

It's not like we would be rooting for the kind of failure that would result in the deaths of American soldiers, like certain lefties did during the Iraq War. Like, for example, Gary Kamiya writing in Salon:

I have a confession: I have at times, as the war has unfolded, secretly wished for things to go wrong. Wished for the Iraqis to be more nationalistic, to resist longer. Wished for the Arab world to rise up in rage. Wished for all the things we feared would happen. I'm not alone: A number of serious, intelligent, morally sensitive people who oppose the war have told me they have had identical feelings.
Wishing for things to go wrong is the logical corollary of the postulate that the better things go for Bush, the worse they will go for America and the rest of the world.

I don't feel bad for laughing at the failure of Obama and his media cult. No one had to die in order for Obama to fail in bringing the Olympics to Chicago. On the other hand, I do have to wonder if any lives could have been saved if the Daley political machine had put its time and resources into dealing with the epidemic of violent crime in his city, instead of chasing Olympic glory.
