Public Option: Is Red Reid Running Yellow from Blue Dogs?

Posted by The MaryHunter at October 28, 2009 4:32 PM

Inquiring minds want to know: is that uncompromising Comrade Reid all bark and no bite on that ObamaCare Government Option?

The problems Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is having securing the 60 votes he'll need to block a filibuster of his health care reform bill raises the possibility that he'll scrap his proposal and revert to a more moderate version that can attract bipartisan support.
Democratic aides told Fox News that Reid, who still does not have the 60 votes needed to kill a Republican filibuster, could end up falling back on an alternative plan pushed by Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine.
Maine wanted a bill that would "trigger" a government health insurance plan in the future only if insurance companies do not meet certain benchmarks.

I suppose that Senate votes are not the only votes he's fishing for now, with his political life on the line in the next Nevada election.

Of course, a trigger is basically as good as a public option, since the benchmarks will undoubtedly be set far too low. The Democrat Congress, plus RINOs a plenty, won't be able to help themselves with this golden opportunity to Nanny State us some more, while appearing oh-so-free-market to the ignorant.

Nonetheless, to see Reid squirm is one of the finer pleasures one can imagine.

...60 votes needed to kill a Republican filibuster...

But there aren't 40 GOP in senate, correct? So how could it be a GOP filibuster?

Reid's in the doo doo but thick. The beauty of it.

SENATOR HARRY REID - JUST LIKE HIS ANCESTORS?

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California, was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Harry (senator (D) from Nevada ) Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor. The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory.

On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription:

'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.'

So Judy recently e-mailed Senator Harry Reid for information about their mutual great-great uncle.

Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

'Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.'

It Run's in his family

Yep, cought the tail end of the show, it was so fitting for Harry.

Who cares about public option? It's a red herring. I'm gonna use my individual option, whether it is legal or not.

I'm quietly thinking to myself that this whole health care reform thing might actually die on the vine before it ever makes it to Obambi's desk.

Hey TED, is that story about Reid's ancestor true, or is it parody? Either way, it was funny as hell. That spin made me dizzy.

"Karin at October 29, 2009 5:50 AM"

The picture is of "Black Jack" Ketchum, 1899.

But it's still accurate, because EVERYBODY KNOWS that Reid THINKS that way! (Liberals)
