Next on the Progressive Agenda: The War on Football
Posted by Gregory of Yardale at October 29, 2009 6:57 AM
The more quintessentially American something is, the more the progressive left hates it. So, along with pick-up trucks, personal firearms, free enterprise, and private health care, you can add football to the list of things progressive leftists hate.
As a harbinger of things to come, we have Malcolm Gladwell of the New Yorker making the assertion that football is a blood-sport equivalent to dog-fighting. More ominously, Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (Dingbat-CA), in discussing a report on cognitive impairments in retired professional football players, compared the NFL to tobacco companies.
“Hey, why don’t we let tobacco companies determine whether smoking is bad for your health or not?” said Representative Linda T. Sanchez, Democrat of California and a member of the Judiciary Committee. “It’s a very appropriate metaphor.”
Playing football ... hell, doing almost anything fun or worthwhile ... involves taking personal risk. Progressive lefties may content themselves with sipping lattes and going to art-house theaters to watch independent movies about gay cowboys eating pudding, but some people want more out of life than that.
I have long suspected --- and my personal experience with libs has borne out --- that most of them never progressed emotionally beyond high school and carry huge resentments against the jocks and the popular kids. Hence, most of progressive ideology is based on a desire to get back at the people they didn't like in high school.

Comments
Gregory - don't forget they are also mad at their parents. Look at Bill Ayers, or instance, constantly bailed out by his rich daddy. Every lefty I have known, and since I live in NYC and went to Columbia, I know quite a few, is, when you actually talk to them long enough, mad at their mommy and daddy for...what ever. And they have to take it out on all of us so we are as miserable as they are.

I guess they could order the NFL to stop all physical contact and tackling and just play "Flag Football" like kids do in Phys-Ed class.

puffdaddy, I agree that many leftists hate their parents. I think that complex explains the cognitive dissonance many leftists have as they seek to outlaw tobacco and legalize marijuana; legitimizing their drug of choice while stigmatizes their parents' drug of choice.
But I also was told over and over again by my left-leaning college friends that the reason they rated George W. Bush is because he was "one of those rich frat boys." I also had to listen to them whine about being left out of the good parties that the jocks and popular girls threw in high school. They were still whining about this into their thirties.

Then they could order Major League Baseball (minors too) to use Nerf balls as well as foam rubber bats. Same goes for the NFL - Nerf Footballs! Someone might get hit in the head by one those heavy footballs, after all. The NHL will likewise use Nerf Hockey pucks and foam rubber sticks.

More from some screwball liberal journalists from his comfy cubihole to condem a real sport I guess he wants all hignschools and collages to start playing soccer instead

Mr. Rodgers: "Can you say "hypocrit", boys and girls? I knew you could."
But why do Liberals object to sports? Sports encourage teamwork, physical fitness, competitivness and... oops, sorry, I'm THINKING again.

Mine at 7:40 AM.
Posted by: KHarn at October 29, 2009 7:41 AM
Football is a sport of achievement, something lazy hippies lying around smoking pot doesn't posses. A 2 min. girlie-man pillow or slap fight would be more to their liking. And of course if they don't like it it should be banned.

It gets better all the time. I'm glad you have a sense of humor Yardale because it is SUCH fun to watch you and other posters spin circles with your simple generalizations. I played high school baseball and football and dated a cheerleader. Oops, another right wing cliche gets tossed out the window.
In your tiny box universe if someone on the left believes or does something it means EVERYONE on the left believes or does it.
How come the right doesn't get held to your same standards? You could have some good fun holding the right to the high moral examples set by David Vitter, Tom Delay or Mr. wide stance among many others.

I add this to the fact that this troll is from Canada and have concluded that the anonymous poster is k.d. lang.

Point Stephana? Quite simple. Just because someone on the left says, believes or does something doesn't mean that I, and everyone else on the left say, believe or do it too.
Stereotyping the left is, interestingly enough, a stereotype of Moonbattery. It's simplistic.

Typical libturd spewing a stereotype. Back to the great white north you hoser!!!

As a general rule, I don't believe any claims an anonymous troll makes about himself.

The right likes football way too much.
American obsession with entertainment is a large part of the distraction that has served to get us into the present political mess we're in. We over-indulge and as a consequence become apathetic to the left's Machiavellian machinations.
While the right muses over whose toe is hurt, the left is mobilizing ACORN.
Look around: Enormously expensive and useless colliseums in the center of almost every American city, Games cabled in 25-hrs a day, sports-talk on radio (that's where the Fairness Doctrine wants talk radio), an obsession with collegiate football in all divisions, cheap sports merchandise comprise billion-dollar markets, sports betting is an ginormous industry, women have become big-big fans bringing sports into the family as a staple, weekends are almost entirely devoted to sports with a small to nothing effort spent on politics, a lot of retired athletes can walk into almost any job, and Michigan even elected a phony wrestler for a governor.
Worse than anything however: practically the only permissible talk of interest allowed around the water cooler is sports talk.
Notice that right now during the football season, the democrats are pushing hardest on the healthcare bill to get it through. Its unlikely that the timing of these efforts is a coincidence.
Conservatives have got to pull their heads out of their favorite athletes' colons and get some perspective on this problem.
Marx was right: sports is the opiate of the masses.
(William F Buckley once said that he never felt worse than when he exercised; however just so there's no suspicion of athlete envy in this post: I won an Iron Man, played football, baseball, bowled a 300, bench-pressed 310 and dated 9 different cheerleaders at once...and won 5 gold medals. And stopped an oncoming train with one hand.)

WARREN PEACE: let's not forget the favorite school playground game of tag or the ultimate in tag games--"freeze tag." Thanks to whiny-ass cry baby snivelly libtard moonbats, tag is now off limits in some schools because of injury risks to self esteem. Lest Billy or Suzy not be able to catch up to someone else who runs faster, or gets tagged more often than others, and ruin their chance to the Ivy Leagues, and plunge them into therapy until they're thirty.
Flag football? Perish the thought. I played flag football in PE class in jr. high and high school. I was far from being atheltic, but yet we all had a good time, regardless of our athletic abilities. Never put anything past a moonbat.

"and Michigan even elected a phony wrestler for a governor."
That was Minnesota.
Michigan elected a Canadian born ex-beauty queen who graduated from Berkeley and was the first female tour guide at Marine World Africa USA.

Excellent post, Fiberal. Sports programming sure does comprise a great deal of what the leftist networks broadcast into American homes, particularly those without subscription TV service. Do you think it's a coincidence?
I'll be up front here, I hate football for alot of reasons. Yet it is a drop in the ocean compared to the seething hatred I have for leftist busybodies who feel entitled to micromanage everything I do or think.

limousine liberal at October 29, 2009 3:13 PM,
I think its marketing and profit that determines what networks broadcast as far as sports goes. However, their profits for sportscasting are off-the-charts enormous, and it is likely that the sports profits provide the massive budgets for their left-wing propagandizing in different, unrelated formats, such as their regular newscasts. The networks could not stay in business on propaganda alone.
The fact is, Americans are inebriated with sports. I just heard about some woman (Finklestein?) who was arrested for prostitution trying to get football tickets.
Until normal decent families and the producers of American get a grip on this black hole for our attention, we will continue to be victimized by the left, who have a relentless, tenacious and hyperactive agenda that will never be diverted.

Thanks for the correction.
Posted by: Fiberal at October 29, 2009 3:52 PM
What the libs don't like about football, or any sport is that they promote the idea somebody is better. Remember, everybody is equal (except those that want to help).
Hey Fiberal, if you think there is something more important than sports then do it, you don't need to drag others into it. If depriving yourself makes you feel better, go for it.
"and dated 9 different cheerleaders at once..."
