Madeleine Albright Okay With 500,000 Dead Children

Posted by Van Helsing at October 15, 2009 8:17 PM

As FDR's Uncle Joe said,

One death is a tragedy; one million is a statistic.

This is a good thing for liberals, or they'd have a real PR mess on their hands. Here's Madeleine Albright saying the death of 500,000 Iraqi children was worth it for the sake of imposing sanctions on Saddam:

The UN estimated that Slick Willie's sanctions killed 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians. In contrast, only 85,000 were killed during the war that liberated the country from a genocidal dictator. The reviled W saved as many as 750,000 Iraqi lives. But this won't make the evening news, let alone the history books.

Yeah, but lampooning the record of a Republican president is more important to a troll like me, than recognizing the truth, facts be damned.

Plus GWB's war resulted in the rest of the Iraqis being able to vote for their leaders.

The cost of inaction is rarely as newsworthy as the price of action.

I've always been sceptical of sanctions. I know the theory is to make life so unbearable for the citizenry that they rise up with torches and pitchforks and ousts the government. It never works that way, does it? The gov't in question has more guns and power than the people could ever touch. It's just misery all around. And then, those in power stay nice and comfortable and fat, you can be assured.

Visiting liberals: Am I wrong?

For the record, Karin, 1) I am not a visiting liberal and 2) you are absolutely right.

Sanctions may indeed have resulted in many Iraqi deaths, but I would lend little credibility to numbers coming out of the UN.

In any case, the blood of those Iraqi civilians was on Saddam's hands. He refused to comply with agreed upon sanctions and it was he who diverted Oil for Food money to arms purchases and palace construction.

The sanctions were pretty meaningless because France, Germany and Russia were secretly violating the sanctions that they had AGREED to. That was one of the reasons that Sadaam defied the UN mandates and threats from America and Brittan; he thought his friends in Europe would protect him.

I know Beef, but what does Sadaam care whose blood or how much is on his now-dead hands?
